My experience started poorly when I purchased a new Traeger smoker from Ace in Severna Park. We had issues and error codes from the first use and sought assistance from Ace. They directed us to Traeger and that was just an entire joke. This issue has been going on for two months, but Brittany the Manager at Ace refused to give up on us. In a world with terrible service, Brittany was truly a star. She tracked down the Traeger Representative multiple times. When they were non responsive, she escalated to Ace's ownership and pleasantly surprised us. Not only did she drive all the way to Whitemarsh to get us a replacement unit, she also delivered it to our house with a new bag of pellets and a gift card. Every time I go there to get harware parts, the guys there try super hard to match what I need. That is so crazy awesome! The one time they didn't have exactly what I needed, they called the nearby competitor store and let me know if they had it. If someone's that dedicated to getting you what you need to fix things up, you'd want to go back every chance. read more

Bottom Line: It's a smallish hardware store but the shelves are packed and the staff is helpful. Of course Ace is not going to have the selection of Home Depot or Lowe's, but for basic hardware stuff, Ace is the place and if you are in the SP area, it closer than going to the big box stores. Here's what keeps me returning to this store: - The location in Park Plaza is convenient on my way home. - The have all the basics I need for my never ending home projects. - The staff is always friendly and helpful. Yes, they actually know where to find stuff on the shelves. - Ace's paint brand, Clark and Kensington, has been rated #2 by Consumer Reports. - If they don't have something you need in the store, they probably do offer it online. That means they can order if for you and probably have it delivered to the store with two days. Not surprisingly, their prices are higher than the big box stores but if you join the rewards program and remember to use your coupons, it probably evens out. I always liked Rommel's before, but I bought a Honeywell Thermostat there for $109.99. When I went online for tech support to figure out how to install it, I saw everyone else sells the same exact item for $69.99. When I went back to Rommel's to ask about it, they basically told me "tough shit." Nothing they can do. I sent an email to Ace Hardware corporate and they told me each store makes their own decisions on things like this. read more

My advice....skip this Ace and go directly to the Ace in Cape St. Claire shopping center where the staff actually takes you right to what you're looking for instead of this store where all you get is incoherent mumbling, a roll of the eyes and a pointing of the finger and vague instructions of over there....AND it was an ACE product I was looking for. I actually even asked the clerk if he was in the middle of helping anyone else and he said no but still couldn't take the time to check to see if the product was in stock. My favorite hardware store, because it is actually like an old hardware store, where you can buy just a couple of the size nuts and bolts you want. Knowledgeable staff, they know their product, or they will find someone who does. People think the smaller hardware stores are more expensive, but I have found Ace to be pretty competitive. What many don't know is they have TONS of bulk landscaping product in the back, and is way less expensive than gardening places. They carry smaller quantities of things, but if you want something you don't see, they will order it. You can find things there (fans, heaters, dehumidifiers) that go out of season months ahead of when you need them and are unavailable in big box stores. They were willing to sell the floor model of something I really needed, because I could not wait a week for it. Big box stores need to go through a bureaucracy to do it, and usually won't. The thing I love the most about this store compared to the giant stores, the size and the people. You don't have to walk down rows and rows of stuff you don't need to find what you do need, and don't roam around for 30 minutes not being able to find someone to help you. Also, they know my dog....and she knows them. When it has been a boring, rainy day, I can always cheer her up when I say "Do you want to go to Ace?" read more

Staff clearly need more training or experience. Don't keep the store open and close out the cash drawer.

I love coming here; they always seem to be happy and eager to help me. One day i needed a very specific tool for my car and i had no idea what it even looked like. They not only shoed me the tool but also showed me how to use it. I will keep coming back just to see whats new in their stores. Walked in yesterday and they now have bath bombs and lotions. Love this place! There's always someone there looking to help you...unlike Lowes and Home Depot. Yes, this store does have a young staff, but they're extremely knowledgeable and actually speak clear and concise English. Which I think is excellent! The key guy at this location is phenomenal. Amazing customer service! I was looking for a few furniture screws at a large "big box" home improvement store and surprisingly they did not have what I needed. When I asked where I might be able to find some, one of the big box store employees suggested Ace. I called first, and the helpful male employee who answered the phone understood what I was looking for and gave me its technical name. The aisles are a bit crowded but they more than make up for this in their willingness to go above and beyond to assist. I walked in and was immediately greeted by an employee who volunteered to help. Another employee walked me through the hardware section to find the precise piece of hardware. They didn't have an exact fit, but were willing to cut & shape a screw down to the size I needed. Very unprofessional. I was in the store quickly looking for a replacement screw around closing time and they turned the lights off on us. On top of that the phone rang minutes before closing and the manager said "Don't pick that phone up". So much for customer service!! read more

I went into store on first day of a 4 day sale, arriving before 2 pm fri. They did not have the advertised tool. I asked the old man, presumed manager, about a rain check. As he walked away into the back room, he said over his shoulder "not on advertised items." Later it clicked: when else does one need a rain check? It is always on special prices. And the ad did not say "no rain checks." So if they do not have 6 hrs of inventory for a 4 day sale then I suggest you trade at another store such as Clements. read more

Went in to buy a Stihl Chainsaw. The first young man they sent over to help me stated he knew nothing about these saws so he'd get someone to answer my questions unless I just wanted to go ahead and buy it with no answers. Of course I wanted answers so next came a very grouchy older man who came to answer our questions but cut me off while asking the first question...snapped at me then proceeded to tell me the product book I was looking at would provide everything I needed to know while basically walking away. I obviously felt insulted and got the impression they were not interested in selling me a saw since I couldn't even ask one question. I bought elsewhere. I sincerely hope management or higher has a talk with the grouchy blue eyed older gentleman with regards to his attitude and customer service skills or lack there of. I have an Ace closer to home and have never had issues there, but they don't sell Stihl. This Ace seems to be staffed with employees whom either cannot help due to training issues or just do not want to help due to an attitude issues. I would recommend going elsewhere and recieve your service with a smile. read more
