As someone who was born and raised in Puerto Rico, I had been wanting to visit Hacienda Santa Ana and experience the Ron del Barrilito tour for a long time. I've enjoyed many tasting experiences during my travels--including coffee, wine, tequila, aguardiente, and other local spirits--so it only felt right to finally experience one of Puerto Rico's most iconic rums. The full tour with the rum tasting is about $80 per person, which I initially thought was expensive. After taking it, I can honestly say it was worth it. The tour is informative and well organized, and you learn about the history of Ron del Barrilito, the family behind it, the beautiful historic hacienda, and the rum-making process. The facilities are gorgeous, well maintained, and the rum itself is clearly a high-quality product. The reason I'm giving four instead of five stars is the customer service. Before the tour, I ordered a small appetizer because I was about to do a rum tasting on an empty stomach. As a solo traveler, I expected to feel welcomed, but unfortunately, I didn't. The bartender, Jesús, came across as dismissive and unfriendly. While I appreciated that he wanted to let me know the appetizer was a generous portion, the way he communicated it made me feel like serving me was an inconvenience rather than a pleasure. After the tour, I had the opportunity to interact with another bartender, Yamil, and the experience was completely different. He was warm, friendly, engaging, and genuinely made me feel welcome. He embodied the kind of hospitality I expected from such a prestigious brand. I also felt that the employee at the admission counter could have been more welcoming. When you're paying for a premium experience, the customer service should match the quality of the product from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. Overall, I still recommend the tour. It's a wonderful way to learn about one of Puerto Rico's oldest and most respected rum brands, and the setting is absolutely beautiful. As soon as we checked into our hotel in Puerto Rico, we headed straight over to Ron del Barrilito for a rum tour, and it was amazing! Our tour guide, Luis, was so amazing, and he was so knowledgeable!! We learned so much about the rum, how it's made, and the history. The property was beautiful and the rum was delicious. With the tour, you get a drink token and are able to order a drink from the bar. I literally had the best rum mule I've ever had in my life! My husband ordered an old-fashioned and he said it was probably one of the best he's ever had as well. The tour was so relaxing and the vibe was so chill. They offer several different rums. A 2-star, a 3-star, a 4-star, and a 5-star. They were all great. I noticed the pricing isn't bad for the 2- and 3-star, but when you get to the 4- and 5-star, it jumps quite drastically. We took an Uber to the Distillery in Bayamon to do an Heritage Tour $45 p/p about half an hour explaining all its history, the home where founder lived, original furniture, grounds, manufacturing, storage. This is a place worth visiting and an experience that's recommended (by me) over bacardi or any of the other tourist populated distillery and mixology tours. We booked the cocktail class + heritage tour online. There's parking at the property, easy access, and restrooms. Upon checking in, you can redeem your complimentary cocktail and take it on the distillery tour with you in take out mugs. The tour guides are so passionate and adorable, they give you a tour of the home, hacienda, and barrel room/distillery. Then during the cocktail tour, you make 3 drinks all made with their RDB rum. We didn't know much about rum, but we learned a lot and their visitor center is gorgeous. This was our first time doing a rum distillery and I'm happy that this was the first one we tried. This place was packed with family history and one of the oldest rum distillery in the area. The tour was in-depth and we even got to taste one of their oldest casks. Unfortunately we had to rush our experience here since I booked for one at Bacardi right after this one. There is one place that people going to Puerto Rico should skip and one they should visit. Instead of throwing more money at a conglomerate like Bacardi, why not enjoy something authentic, real and truly local? The best thing about the distillery is that it's more than just a visit to the cellars. There is a beautiful house tour in which owners used to live. There is the beautiful story about how the founder used to walk around with a tiny barrel pouring rum for his guests. There is an old tower. And of course, a nice visitor center with a bar. With all that said, the rum is absolutely amazing. Balanced without being overly sweet. People are very kind. I had a great time here at this distillery. For anyone visiting Puerto Rico I highly recommend coming here. All the staff from the greater, to the bartender, our tour guide (Jimmy), and everyone working the gift shop were all awesome and super friendly. Even tho the tour is kind of short you do get a lot of information and learn a lot about the history of the distillery and rum in Puerto Rico. I came here for a mixology class but we were late so we switched it to a rum tasting which was great. The tour was amazing first we started with a history of the rum and we walked the grounds. This included the house and the different area where the barrels were kept. The different types of barrel were explained as well. Then we went inside to taste the rum. The glass was smoked over tobacco leaves before being filled with an amazing rum old fashioned. Must try! After the tour, we were able to do a tasting of the 2, 3, 4, and 5 Star Rons. Tomas, in the gift shop, was incredible as he helped me with filling and labeling my own bottle of 4 Star from the barrel. The rest of my group enjoyed a variety of handcrafted cocktails from the bar as I finished up the tour, and everyone was highly satisfied. Beautiful property! We didn't get to do an actual tour but the grounds are nice and the bar / tasting room / gift shop building is also nice. We wanted to try the rums to see if any were worth taking home so we did a flight. It's expensive but the pours were big enough that me and a friend were able to split them and the cost. Their merch is really nice. I ended up buying a bunch of things including a bottle of their 3 star rum. Come here to grab some cocktails or buy some stuff. He was also extremely willing to answer all of our questions. After the tour, we completed a tasting of rum aged for various times, corresponding with the number of stars that they put on the bottle - ranging from two stars to five stars. All had a different nuanced flavor and were enjoyable to try! When the tour and tasting is complete, you're welcome to make purchases in the on-site shop or move on to the bar where you can use your token for an included beverage. The bartenders could not be better at making a variety of drinks and also giving recommendations based on your taste preferences. Ron del Barrilito is such an underrated rum tour. It's the oldest in Puerto Rico and was family owned until very recently. My friends and I did a heritage tour which came with a welcome drink. Our tour guide was super friendly and because it's a small, mom and pop distillery the tour felt very intimate. You could also choose from a variety of different rum based drinks for your welcome drink, which I preferred unlike the other well-known rum factory tours that give pina coladas to everyone. My drink was pretty strong despite it being free which I loved. After the tour, my friends and I decided to stay at the bar and have a couple more drinks. I got a sipping rum which is pretty unique to this distillery. I won't spoil anything for anyone interested in the tour! read more
