Throughout the grievance process, I experienced repeated difficulties obtaining updates and communicating with the individuals assigned to my case. Calls often went unanswered, voicemail boxes were full, and messages were not returned in a timely manner. In addition, obtaining timely psychiatric care has been unnecessarily difficult. Mental health concerns should be treated with the same urgency and importance as physical health concerns. Delays in access to psychiatric services and the challenges involved in coordinating care have added unnecessary stress during an already vulnerable time. Patients who file grievances are often doing so because they are already dealing with important healthcare concerns. It is frustrating to feel unheard or unable to obtain basic information regarding the status of a complaint. Effective communication, timely access to care, and continuity of care are essential components of quality patient care, and unfortunately, my experience has fallen short of those expectations. I hope Kaiser reviews the accessibility and responsiveness of Member Services, Grievance Operations, and psychiatric services to ensure that members receive timely communication and appropriate mental health care. Patients should not have to repeatedly advocate for themselves or resort to outside complaints simply to receive responses and access to necessary treatment.

I took a lot of time to reflect and think clearly before writing this review, because I want it to be truthful and fair. Initially my appointments went well and she was helpful. I went to her needing a lot of help with depression and anxiety and getting started on medications. Her private practice was also very new at the time. Over time, as her practice has grown, I have experienced a pretty severe decline in the patient care provided. Our appointments have become less focused on me, and much more focused on her and her stressors in life. I feel a good majority of the appointments lately have been her ranting or venting about various different situations or politics. The most recent appointment with her solidified my decision that I need to move on to a new practitioner. She has said things in the past that I have found offensive, but overlooked. This past appointment went too far. I had contacted her the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve (it was Monday, December 28th), needing a refill on a medication. She had specifically instructed me to email her. Well, she happened to be on vacation. No heads up to her clients that she would be out of town; she has never given me any notice of when she travels or vacations. I feel like abandoning your patients without notice and without a backup practitioner when you're working in mental health is simply wrong. I was having a very difficult time, expressed my concerns to my therapist, who subsequently reached out to her too. She then refilled my medication on December 31st (New Year's eve). During my next appointment with her, she was extremely aggressive with me, blamed me for ruining her holiday with her family, stating that she didn't get to spend New Year's Eve with her family because she had to "work" putting in a refill for me (New years eve is not a holiday, just to be clear. I had another in person doctor's appointment that day). She verbatim stated that she "would never contact her doctor on new years eve". She verbatim stated that she felt angry with me and that I don't understand how difficult it is to be a health care practitioner during covid. I replied that covid has been difficult for everyone, not just health care practitioners. She insisted it has been MORE difficult for her, comparing herself to me, a stay-at-home mother. She is not a mother and has no insight on what being a mother entails, especially during a global pandemic. The fact that she would compare herself and her struggles with mine and insinuate that she has it tougher than I do, is just straight up rude and unprofessional. Prior to my choice to be a stay-at-home mother, I worked in mental health. Never, ever, would I tell a patient that I was angry with them. I have had patients physically assault me, and never told them that I was angry with them. I have never heard any treatment team member I have ever worked with say that to any patient, in any hospital. It's just unfathomable that she would say this to me and extremely hurtful as well. I don't deserve to be spoken to the like that or compared to her, and neither does anybody else. She also consistently states that this is not her only job, which definitely sends the message that this is not her priority. Communication with her assistant has been poor, and when I pointed it out, she defended her, stating that it's also not her only job. It really gives the impression that this has become her side gig for making extra money and not her priority. At $250 for a 30-minute session, I should be treated like a respected patient. There are so many options for psychiatrists, and I understand the pains of finding somebody that clicks with you. Nobody will be perfect. But keep looking until you find one that truly wants to help you, isn't just about the money, and above all us, respects you. I do wish Dr. Nanda the best of luck with her practice and I hope she learns from her mistakes. I'll also note that all of the positive reviews here, are written by her colleagues. None of them are from her patients.

But I had a few concerns that I did not appreciate about being under her care. She did not take my need for a female doctor seriously. Most practitioners don't but I think it's important to not assume why someone may be uncomfortable with an opposite gender doctor. She failed to note that my daughter was occiput posterior positioned despite the multiple and I mean MULTIPLE 3D ultrasounds. My daughter was a large baby as well. I had concerns about vaginal delivery and Dr. Lennon dismissed my concerns and told me to stop discussing my concerns with other moms. Toward the end of my pregnancy I developed preeclampsia and Dr. Lennon decided it was time to induce the pregnancy. While in the hospital, multiple drs asked why I am attempting a natural delivery given my lab tests and size of my daughter. I advised it was important to Dr. Lennon. After 3 days of this nonsense, I am quite sure that the other drs on call convinced my rather new dr to perform a c-section. Dr. Lennon was not pleased with this outcome and told me she couldn't call it a failed c-section since we didn't try it again but agreed to perform the c-section if that is what I wanted. She tested me for HIV without my consent. She also put in my medical chart that I had a history of MRSA which I told her I did not. She was unable to explain any of the symptoms I was experiencing while pregnant and often needed to confer with more seasoned OBGYNs. I was honest about my history with depression and anxiety and she nearly refused to fill out intermittent leave paperwork for my employer unless I went under the care of a psychiatrist and took SSRIs. Once baby was born she said she was calling a social worker to ensure I wasn't a danger to myself or my baby. Because of my experiences with Dr. Lennon I will be very careful before disclosing my prior mental history ever again. She is no longer at SEBMF and has moved on to a Sutter location in Oakland. I am hoping she has grown in her career and future patients will need to undergo this kind of treatment.

Their response time is great- Oli, the ketamine-coach, is usually available via phone and is patient and kind. My main problem: The medical staff did not look for ongoing verbal consent, they didn't explain what was happening during my intake and started putting "vitamins" in my bloodstream without explaining consulting/asking for consent. If you engage with them, be specific about your needs for ongoing verbal consent, clear medical explanations, and a bedside manner that leads to feeling respected. The MD (anesthesiologist) dismissed my concerns by saying "it's natural- it's not the medicine, it's natural." When I asked for clarity on the medical meaning of "natural," I was met with frustration and "it's things that are already in your body." Again- that's not a medical response- it's dismissive. Oli, the person in charge of guiding/coaching me through the experience, admitted that the anesthesiologist is a great doctor but lacks a good bedside manner. I was baffled- why would you allow that with severely depressed folks? Everything is paid out of pocket, which means that if they start any kind of IV bag (with or without telling you?) you are on the hook for the dollars. If you are looking for Ketamine treatments with psychotherapy, that is NOT the main thing this place offers. They do offer a legal space for therapists to come in and assist clients in a Ketamine session. This was not clear to me until I carefully read and signed their paperwork before my first on-site visit. They offer COACHING to accompany ketamine experiences. The coaches are NOT THERAPISTS OR PSYCHIATRISTS. If you are suffering, I'm sorry, mental illness is so debilitating. If you use CIT, make sure you explain your needs for information and consent as things are being done to you. READ their disclaimers. Also, they don't have encryption, so anything medical you share will not be protected by encryption. Again, I didn't find this out until I read the proverbial fine print.

It's hard to put into words how profoundly the team at CIT has positively impacted my life. Joyce handles the scheduling and payments (and sometimes intake/IV starts), and is very responsive, kind, and skilled. The entire team exudes warmth. I recommend them highly to anyone who is considering ketamine treatment. I have been to both the Marin and Vacaville clinics, and both are great. While the entire team is fantastic, I have to give a special shout out to Oli, one of the guides.
