I was denied by the supervisor stating that I had already received food twice this month. I am NOT a food stamp recipient, in fact I was on the phone with DES at the time that I was called up and informed him of that fact. I am attempting to help my family any way I can. The supervisor denied us even an emergency food box. The heartless guy referred me to St. Mary's Food Bank which is many miles away from Desert Mission (where I was after having waited in line), even more miles away from my home. End result, I was unable to drive the extra 10+ miles to get to St. Mary's. I have very little gas, absolutely no money and a bald tire (very unsafe to make that trip). My family will go hungry this evening and this completely unacceptable. If the option of ZERO stars were available, that's what my review would firmly be after this inappropriate conduct.

I once lived in a bountiful where an immense freezer could be filled with earth's goodness of vegetables and fruits for a small expense in miles and cash. Not that easy in Arizona. The freezer was donated to St. Mary's - and welcomed. We keep our pantry stocked. When the "Best By" dates geow near on pantry goods, they are donated to St. Mary's and refreshed. I want to contribute quality to those less blessed than I have been. And, St. Mary's, being a religious organization charity, blesses families, and individuals with the foundation of living - food. This is served all over Arizona. I went with my office team and there were many more. It's a great way to give back to community. We learned that these food are given to many homeless, below poverty line people. I am so glad to have volunteered at this place coz they organize it pretty good and have a well set system.

I recently completed a volunteer event at the Children's Museum of Phoenix sponsored by this…read morenon-profit organization. Also involved with Generation United, we spent time with underprivileged children during the free arts day at the museum. There were three highly organized activities with the groups split up into about 8-10 kids. The activities were kids yoga, and two where the children created their own art. The organizers did a great job explaining what the volunteer's boundaries should be and how we could maximize our time with the children. My group were 4-year olds and we were each assigned one child. Being that I have an almost 4 year old, it felt natural to play with my buddy but it was so difficult when we had to say good bye. These kids need so much and you just want to do more. Luckily, they have organizations like Free Arts to bring some fun and creativity into their lives.

Andre House has been a vital resource and safe place for the unsheltered in Phoenix for years…read more Their volunteers are always working so hard to provide food, supplies, and community to folks in need. Their staff is amazing. Especially Taylor! She has done so much to help people connect with housing, work, rehabilitation and medical care. She goes above and beyond always. 6 days a week the guests are able to get water, clothes, showers, a hot meal and assistance with housing and resources. Taylor and the staff at André House protect their guests, serve them faithfully and do it with a smile. Andre House is a critical resource for so many living on the streets of downtown Phoenix. We are lucky to have them. Consider volunteering or donating. This place is incredible!

EVMC has a 94-bed shelter that provides comprehensive programs and strategies for each resident. For many men facing challenges because of past substance abuse, criminal involvement, life changing events or simply a long life on the streets, it means a long road back and that journey starts here. EVMC does pre-screened of potential residents before enrollment. They are asked to be candid about the problems that resulted in their homelessness. Once at the facility, EVMC staff ensure that each resident comply with established rules. During their stay, all residents must work full-time and save 85% of their income. Some area churches has given bicycles, reflectors, helmet to help residents travel to these jobs. A New Leaf and EVMC believes that the key to success for the residents in re-entering society is providing life skills training, work assistance, counseling, socialization skills, food, basic needs and shelter. There are also Case Managers who work individually with residents to set personal goals and address their barriers in becoming productive and contributing members of society. If you, or your organization are interested in serving a meal (lunch or dinner) to a group of men who are getting back on their feet, please call (480) 610-6722. The Quality I received was throough, as I got help getting off the street. I think they liked my dog, as they took care of him first. Shots, License, check-up. I love Justa Center as they are perfect for getting help when you are homeless. It has been close to 3 years, and I am getting ready to go homeless again, as I am having surgury in the next week, and cannot work to pay my rent. I need more help, this time with a pro bono lawyer about my past that stops me from getting a place I can actually afford. It has been over 23 years, and I still have a record that says 'just live in your car' and my record is really old and now the drug is legal. I will go back to Justa very soon, as soon as I can get some add'l gas to get there. Thanks Justa!
