our family ate there for the first time since they reopened tonight. WOW, I could not have been more disappointed. It's self serve now, more of a very skimpy buffet, they no longer serve you which is something from the old days that I liked, it's just cleaner than everyone handling the utensils. the BBQ was very sweet and too salty, not pleasant at all, there was no fish on the line, you had to ask for it and when they put it out they only put out 2 piece, there were 5 of us. I never got any fish because we decided to leave before I had a chance to go back to see if they had cooked more. there was about 1 cup of cold fried shrimp on the line. we went with hopes of eating fish and shrimp. everything I had on my plate was cold to cool, nothing was hot. the only thing I tried that was good was the fried chicken and that was room temperature. two people at our table ate only Mac and cheese and a dessert because the food was room temperature. there were 2 other tables of people there. I can't recommend this restaurant, it was good and they were busy in the past. I realize a place can have an off night but every thing I tasted was cold. the total cost was over 20.00 per person, yes the 2 that ate one side of mac and cheese were charged over 20.00 each. our 115.00 would have been better spent at a fast food place. I don't think we can give them a second chance. this was terribl. definitely not the old Ron's Bar. read more

As another reviewer stated, get gussied up. No need to wear your Sunday best here. Casual down home eating. The buffet is way to go so you can sample everything a little or lot. Check their hours of operation as they are not open seven days a week. Also on Thursday nights it can get busy as they have live gospel bands playing which have followings. If you are really hungry, cheap and love bbq then this is where you want to go. Considering that Coats has very few dining options, this is an oasis of delicious food and ample portions. Food: The majority of the items I tried were fantastic with a few "just okay" items in the mix, but that's the best part of a buffet, I can try it all and not feel bad when I get something I'm not 100% satisfied with. You order your food cafeteria style, so as you move down the line, the person will ask you what items you want. They were very nice and did not judge you for filling your plate. My favorites were the fried chicken, the cole slaw, the mac and cheese and the complimentary hush puppies. The bbq and the fried apples fall into the "just okay" category, but they were still tasty and I do not regret trying them. Service: Fast and courteous. Our drinks were served quickly and no one really bothered us much when we ate and stayed a little bit later than we probably should have so bonus points for that. Price: Reasonable for a buffet. $11.76 with tax for all-you-can-eat is a pretty good deal in my opinion. Atmosphere: Literally looks like a barn on the inside. This was just terrible, we got there around 5 on Saturday. They were just starting to prepare the food for the buffet as folks were coming in. Someone said "he hasn't even dropped the chicken yet" The chicken was not fresh, other items were cold and the place is super dark and dusty (especially the room between the dining room and the entrance.) My husband and I moved to Coats back in August and Ron's Barn was our first stop for "Southern Cooking". I have to say at first I was a bit turned off and not because of the food. It was more of the food not looking the way I am use to it looking. For example, up north our pulled pork (aka BBQ) has some type of barbecue sauce all over it. Down South it doesn't have any type of "sauce". BUT once I tried all the food, it was delicious! I was obsessed with the fried chicken and then buttered potatoes. I couldn't bring myself to eat the beans or Okra, but I think after some time I will. My husband and I haven't been back, but that's only because I know when I do go I will eat way too much. read more

Took my family to this restaurant and was very unsatisfied. Very confusing if you haven't been here before. This is like a cafeteria not a buffet. As far as the food goes, I chose the country style steak and gravy and the chicken pastry for my meats. The chicken pastry was not good, the pastry all stuck together and was under cooked with no chicken. My family members got ribs and they could not even take a second bite. This was a cold building with almost cold food. There was no seafood in the serving line, none at all, ribs were like leather and BBQ was like a paper bag would taste. Yes this is a bad review because no they brought the fish out it looked nasty, tasted nasty and was under cooked, as well as the rubbery shrimp. This place was recommended by people that had eaten at their catering service and there at Coats. I won't ask anyone's advice again. For nearly $14.00, I could have eaten at several other places in Coats for less and not have to worry if I'm going to wake up with food poisoning.
