Great place off of I95 in North Carolina. Stopped for quick lunch and we ordered the Carolina style BBQ pork with green beans and Brunswick stew. We also had the fried chicken Mac n cheese and potato salad. The food was home style and really good. They also give you hush puppy with honey butter. Three of us ate amd drank ice tea for 30 bucks. Wow! Everything was delicious. The collard greens were fantastic, and the hash browns were spot on. The fried chicken was also excellent. We opted for takeout, but they forgot to include the BBQ (main item !!) in our bags, so we had to return to get it. Make sure to check your bag before you leave. WE LOVE SHRIMP GUY (The Owner) We ordered Dark Chicken, BBQ Pulled Pork and BBQ Chicken, Fried Shrimp. The food and the workers were great and accommodating. Driving up I-95 N from Florida on the way to Baltimore, we decided we wanted to sit down and have barbecue dinner in North Carolina. We did come in later into the night about an hour before closing so they were out of ribs which we were hoping for but it was completely fine because our food was great and the customer service was amazing. The pulled pork and the eastern NC style bbq sauce was everything I remember as I used to live in Greenville, NC for 7 years. When we first sat and waitress asked for our drinks, we were immediately brought hush puppies without ask. Also loved how the sweet tea was easily accessible if I needed more. The most memorable part about the experience though was the owner! He would often come by our table and offer us extra shrimp multiple times. He was very friendly and engaging and was true to his southern hospitality. We were glad to support a nice family owned business providing welcoming service to a few out of towners! For quite a few years I have had to drive from Virginia to Florida and back. My kids and I or whoever is traveling always make it a point to stop here. The hush puppies are amazing (this coming from someone who refuses to eat them anywhere else). Slather a little of the honey butter on and they are amazing - better than dessert most places. I love their BBQ sauce, my last trip through I bought a gallon. I love it perfect mix of vinegary with great spices. All the menu items I have tried are delicious. Fried chicken is crispy and well seasoned, pulled pork and brunswick stew are probably my favorites. The people who work should be complimented also. We came through at Thanksgiving time and then returned near Christmas time. They remembered us! No matter what they are all super friendly and on top of making sure your experience is remarkable. Searching for authentic North Carolina BBQ? Dip off I-95 do yourself a favor! They've been here for almost 100 years! That should say some thing. They do a ton of takeout but there's a small interior to eat in. This family owned spot serves up all the southern goodness you would expect. The charming owner Mr. Linwood, who is very personable, took his time taking our order right at the counter while the staff was quickly filling orders efficiently with a smile. I don't eat pork, but I do have a soft spot for white meat fried chicken and this was the real deal. Crunchy on the exterior, but ultra moist and juicy on the inside. The mac & cheese is not for the faint of heart. It is rich and thick and creamy. Like most southern vegetables, everything is boiled, so the green beans were not my favorite And I couldn't have the collard greens because they're done with traditional ham hock. Coleslaw was on the sweeter side. Should we find ourselves in the area again we will definitely make it a point to stop- it's so worth it. read more

Another great meal and wine swan barbecue today. I came for lunch and ordered the half a rack of ribs and they were so hot and so tasty I was absolutely thrilled. I commute a lot between Florida and Maryland and I try to time my travel so that I can stop at White Swan every time I go north or south on I 95. I love this place. read more

Phenomenal personality from our waitress, working hard to please. Scrumptious hush puppies hit the table immediately with wonderful honey butter. On Thursday nights the White Swan offers $1.99 pork sandwiches......yes $1.99 Delicious sandwich topped with coleslaw and North Carolina vinegar based bbq sauce Unfortunately they had sold out of Ribs by the time we got there however the worlds greatest waitress found me a few pieces to sample, delicious. What a treasure ..... After searching around for some places for lunch we decided to stop here and it was the right choice ! Southern Hospitality at its Best ! This little place was hopping with pre-orders and many people stopping in and getting orders to go ... We dined in and ordered a combo and the food was simply incredible. Probably the best friend chicken I've ever had in my lifetime ! The Pork BBW was so tasty along with the potatoes and hush puppies and coleslaw ! We lived it so much we got their special vacuum sealed pork to go .... can't wait to enjoy it ! The staff was awesome ! You really felt welcomed and part of the family here ! They serve you hot fresh hush puppies with your drink order. Let me tell you they were amazing!! We ordered a shrimp plate and a rib platter. Bomb ass chicken spot !!! Local hole in the wall where all the locals go. Staff are cool and friendly. Definitely recommend the fried chicken and the bbq chicken . Both were moist and very flavorful. Stopped in after our tour of Bentonville Battleground. Food was good. I ordered the bbq chicken special with green beans and boiled potatoes. Chicken was good, I liked the tangy bbq sauce they use. Green beans nothing special and the potatoes lacked any seasoning, but hey they have to cater to all palates, nothing a little salt and pepper can't remedy. The hushpuppies were great! My husband and daughter each got the pork bbq and fried chicken with brunswick stew and mac n cheese. They said the chicken was awesome and the bbq and stew were good as well. We're driving north from Myrtle beach and wanted to have another round of southern food. Thanks to Yelp, we found white swan bbq. This place have been doing bbq since 1930... wow. Bbq chicken- juicy, very tender, well seasoned and the BBQ Sauce added an extra layer of flavor that has some heat. Fried chicken- Had the thigh and leg. Came in hot, crunchy, good batter and very juicy. The sides were coleslaw and green beans. Both were good but coleslaw was so much better. Last but not the least....Brunswick stew, been craving for it since I had it for the first time in Shenandoah valley VA. Delicious! Not soupy, good amount of shredded meat, veggies and a perfect tomato flavor. It could've probably used a little more heat but that's just my personal preference. Now they forgot to charge me for the stew after I had already left, so I went back and the lady told me " don't worry about it and have a nice day" I was stunned. That's true southern hospitality, people from the south are just very nice people. I ended putting the money in their tip jar. First time visit to this NC BBQ joint. We arrived too late for ribs, so we ordered plates. Mine was small which was pulled pork, husband medium plate consisting of one piece of fried chicken and pulled pork. Had to ask for BBQ sauce which I loved-vinegar based! Yum. He has the pork bbq and white meat chicken (fried) combo with Brunswick stew and Cole slaw. The pork was perfect - lean but moist and full of flavor. The fried chicken was also spot on with a good crunch in the skin. But the real winner was the Brunswick stew. It is what we both remembered and so longed for! So glad we discovered White Swan! A friend from Virginia told us to stop here off I-95 on the way to Florida, and was a WINNER! This was a perfect little family restaurant specializing in good Southern things to eat! (Apparently multiple locations; this one on Brightleaf.) You can order at the register, or sit down and be served. Our server, Lily, greeted us with a huge basket of hushpuppies. I had the delicious fried chicken breasts with boiled potatoes and the very best cole slaw. My husband had the combo fried chicken and BBQ with boiled potatoes and Brunswick Stew. It was fabulous, and we could not eat it all!! Our lunches came 2-3 minutes after ordering!! Wow!! Lily took great care of us, and refilled our drinks with caps to go when we left! From the outside, not really a place you would walk into unless you read the reviews. When you walk in, the kitchen is wide open behind the counter and to the left is the seating area. Seat yourself and you will be greeted by someone almost as soon as you sit down. The turnover of the tables is incredible. We saw the restaurant turn over at least 2x in the 45 mins we were there. The restaurant has about 8 tables and while we were there, there were more people getting take out than dining in and it was a steady flow, which is a super good sign! Phenomenal eastern NC style BBQ!!! Whole hog roast over wood & chopped with a nice vinegar & red pepper sauce. We loved it. We ate bbq sandwiches & plates. The W had a little fat, but it actually added to the delicious bbq goodness. The sides were good as well. We tried their Brunswick stew which was well blended. We were passing through town and stopped in on a Thursday when apparently you can get BBQ sandwich for $2.59 after 4pm. I had fried chicken on the brain so I ordered that (plus a sandwich). They started with a basket of free hush puppies and I ordered half and half tea that still just about put me in a sugar coma. In addition to the entrees, I had slaw and Brunswick stew.
