I drove to RON'S today at 1:00p...which is about 1:15 minute drive...as always the fish, shrimp and ALL the food was good as it usually is...NO as it always is...!! There are several CATFISH restaurants within 20-30 minutes of where I live BUT it is worth the drive to RON'S...WE make the drive about once a month... One of my most favorite fish house restaurants to eat at. This was my 4th time here and it's been great each time! The fish has a good taste. (Not "fishy" tasting) The shrimp is amazing as well. The only complaint I'd have would be on the frog legs. They didn't have much of a taste at all. Overall I'd say it's a great place to eat. read more

The best tasting and cooked catfish in Arkansas. It has been many years since I have eaten at Rons because I don't live here. Back today to see family and decided to revisit a place I once loved to eat. Wow, am I glad I stopped!!! Boneless catfish perfection. Corn tasted fresh and hushpuppies should have recipe protection. So many restaurants serve their catfish undercooked. When you pick up the filet it folds over like like your holding a dollar bill. Not here! The dining area was pretty smoky from the fryers I'm sure. I guess you could say it adds another layer of authenticity that it's about the catfish not the dining room. This is my favorite place to eat in Jonesboro. You get all you can eat food & drinks for only $10 which is awesome as a broke college student. The food is so yummy, especially the catfish and shrimp. Even the dessert is delicious, so save room which feels impossible. read more

Well I was in the mood for some good catfish. The baked beans and cole slaw are good. The hush puppies are just meal no flavor at all. The catfish was either undercooked or cooked way to much. The catfish had no flavor at all. Only reason I gave it a 3 is that I did notice that they kept everything well stocked; even though some of it looked like it had been out since lunch. 62 feet of all the crap you can eat. Admittedly, I am not a fan of catfish, or any other fresh water fish, so I was dragged here by the will of the group under protest. They all loved it, I did not. Of course, they are all obese, while I am not. There is a HUGE variety of bland foods, mostly fried and greasy. I found the quality of the food to be on par with most school cafeterias, while the prices were disproportionate with the quality. In the way of disclosure, I am not a culinary snob, I merely dislike "all you can eat" buffets on principle-- there is a reason why 70% of Americans are overweight. It angers me to see so many plates grossly overloaded an so much food wasted...anger is not a good dinner emotion. In fairness, everyone loved the star of the show--catfish--so I can't crap on that. Surely, however, there must be some place that can provide that without the unnecessary excesses of the buffet and the associated circus. ***Update--August 30, 2013*** Under serious protest I once again went with visiting relative who absolutely insisted we go here. I hadn't been to Ron's since before most people had even heard of "the Internet", mostly because I'm not much for restaurant catfish (probably because most places are horrible) and don't like paying for restaurant 'home cooking' (which I usually could have done much better at home with little effort). Lately I've been telling folks that I think the catfish fillets at the Dodge Store are the best catfish I've had in a long, long time and a lot of folks have really been bragging on Ron's in response, so I decided to give it a try. I went on a Tuesday about 4:30-5:00pm. Conclusion I tend to ramble & type far too much, so here's the short version: overall I was really happy with the visit aside from one big disappointment. I will be back, and probably sooner that the 15yrs between my last two visits. Below I express a lot of surprise and shock, but don't take that as, 'I expected Ron's to be bad.' It is really, 'This is totally not what I'm used to around here. This is actually good.' Now the long version... Price Being that it was Tuesday the prices were a little lower. I'd seen plenty of people complain about the price (Indeed, I probably won't be visiting during the $12.99 shifts on nights/weekends.) but getting the special for being a Tuesday afternoon, in combination with the quality, made me feel like I got a good value. Appearance The employees were all friendly & working diligently. It seems like they were all working together to keep the place clean & making sure customers were taken care of rather than each one doing their own thing. Even the young ones didn't seem to have the 'I'm bored, when can I get out of here, where's my check?' attitude that is sadly so prevalent in hospitality today. Refreshing. I especially want to single out one person for praise. The girl that was tending the buffet was ON IT. She was keeping it clean and well maintained and was busy with it but was unobtrusive about it so as not to impede the flow of customers. Buffet Speaking of buffet... I was surprised and impressed. It was super clean, none of the food was getting in adjacent food containers (or if it was it was being dealt with swiftly), and none of the food looked as if it had been there all day, or three. Everything looked like it had been placed there just minutes before, which it very well may have been given the diligence with which it was tended. There was a pleasing range of items, especially the desert bar whose variety and quality was shockingly good. None of the boiled or stewed items - such as beans, black-eyed peas, green beans, etc - was cooked down to a mushy pool of bland glop as frequently happens with mass produced buffet food. All were suitably toothsome with clean, clear flavors. I especially appreciated the salad bar. While I might have liked a few more components available it was a decent selection and best of all the lettuce was outstanding. Nearly everywhere I go the lettuce is 1) soggy & swimming in a pool of water or 2) dry but stinking of preservative and/or the plastic bag it was shipped in, pre-shredded in a factory who-knows-where. Ron's was both dry AND tasted very fresh and clean. I liked that they had both iceberg and leaf lettuce as well. Catfish The vegetables & salad bar by themselves are enough to get me back. However, there was one major source of disappointment for me, the whole reason I'd come: the catfish. I tried a couple fillets (cajun & regular), a steak, and a tail. I tried to get the plumpest ones I could find. The steak was sad, with only two little medallions of good meat about the size of a nickel on each side of the spine and then two strips of leathery belly flaps that I could barely chew clinging to the ribs. The tail appeared clean but was still chocked full of anal fin bones I had to pick out of my teeth. The "fillets" were desiccated chewy strips, just barely bigger than what I would call "nuggets". I don't think I managed to get a single decent mouthful of catfish meat out of the whole lot. The cajun fillets had no spice to them at all other than salt. Lots and lots and lots of salt. I like salt on my fish but that was just way too much; I couldn't taste anything resembling fish for the huge metallic flavor of salt in my mouth. Parting Words Maybe they got a less-than-perfect shipment of fish, maybe the kitchen staff wasn't keeping an eye on the fryer like they should that day, or maybe I just don't know what good fish is supposed to be like. Whatever the case, I found the fish to be an aberration in an otherwise outstanding experience. Even if I am ignorant of the world of catfish (but I don't think I am having grown up eating the fish from the ditches, swamps, and sloughs of southeast Missouri) I think if it had been up to the level of the rest of the spread I definitely would be talking about how great it was rather than how it was a let-down. Gargantuan sized buffet and everything is always fresh and tasty. Their catfish is good, but if you don't like meat that swims they always have chicken or ham available. It's pretty much all self service, so while its a tad pricy (About $12-$15) you don't have to worry about tipping. It's always crowded there, which is kinda a hassle but that means you know it's good. It can get quite hot and stuffy there when they are busy. Also come as early as possible especially on Friday nights, lest you want to wait in the line that's out the door. Best buffet in town! read more

Every handicapped spot was taken and none of them had tags or a hanger. The price was outrageous AMD there was no air conditioner. I had to keep wiping sweat and couldn't eat due to being too hot. Ron's Catfish House...hhmmm, let me see...it was the worst spent $60 dollars I have ever spent !!! It started with the smug look from the cashier when we came on and she gave us the price of what our meal would cost. I still gave it the benefit of the doubt because my granddaughter SD that she had been hearing rave reports on it. Then we get to the food....I didn't get to everything but I can say the baked beans, slaw, macaroni and potatoe salad, and fried shrimp were good, but when I got to the fish, which I expected to be spectacular, was dry, hard and just plain tasteless, with bones in the steak!, I was of course disappointed. Definitely the place to go if you are wanting good catfish! In fact everything was good. We were just passing through and found Ron's on yelp. Food was plentiful. We sat close to the kitchen and they were continuously bring out pans of hot catfish. I enjoyed everything I ate. Whether you are local or just passing through, like us, I wholeheartedly recommend stopping at Ron's. Very reasonably priced. We went on a Thursday night and they had a special price. A lot of upset people including myself showed around 4pm Saturday just to find out it does not open for another hour. A lot of people made a special trip. Good food.
