I have been looking for a neat, professional experienced chimney cleaner for 3 years. This is the 3rd company I've hired in the last 3 years, in search of a permanent company I can trust. I called Ron, he picked up the phone, and explained that he is personally on every job. I liked that. He quoted the price on the phone for the 2 woodstoves. When he arrived, he put down drop cloths from the door all the way to the stoves and started his work. There are 3 things you want to look for when finding a contractor to clean your chimney: 1. They use a rotary "weed wack" technology to fully clean the chimney. Many companies simply use a sweep that just feathers the creosote, but does not dig in and remove it. Make sure to ask this question. The technology uses a tip with vinyl strings like a weed Wacker, with 3 foot rods that get added as the tip is pushed up, and attaches to a drill that spins the tip to clean every inch of the pipe on the way up. 2. Does not let ash and creosote drop out of the piping system so it never has a chance to create dust and ugly soot. The prior contractors allowed the creosote to drop behind the stove, and then scooped it up and vacuumed it. But this allowed soot to travel in the house and a very thin film on my furniture. I can tell you that Ron prevents any soot by vacuuming all the creosote before it drops out of the piping by keeping a strong vac in the pipe before starting the sweep. 3. Previous sweepers had portable vacuum cleaners which they were proud of as powerful. Compared to the monster vacuum cleaner Ron has, those are all in junior league. Ron has a huge vac built into his trailer which I believe is 35 hp. It is the biggest vac in RI for chimney sweeping. The vac runs in gasoline, and he has 100 ft hose. I was very impressed by this vac system and how powerful it is. And yes it is loud, but thankfully outside! See the attached photo of his set up. Hired Ron's after a lot of research and all of the great reviews really sold me. I called and explained what I was looking for. I was selling my house and wanted to have the chimney inspected and cleaned before I put the house on the market. The man who answered was very nice and said he would call me back with a date of when he could do the work. He called me back as promised and gave me a date and time for the work. On the day the work was to be performed he said he was supposed to be at my house at 1:00PM. It was close to 1:00 and I got a call from him saying he was running late. I was fine with that because I had expected to be home for the afternoon. After a half hour I called back and checked on his arrival time. He said he would be about another 20 minutes. After another half hour or so went by I got another call and said he was going to be even later. I was frustrated but fine. After another half hour I got a call from him with a big explanation about his son's situation and how bad of a day it had been but he was still coming. While very unfortunate I would have thought it would have been better to just reschedule but he insisted on still coming down. So after being about two and a half hours late for the appointment he arrived. I opened the door and saw that he was obviously freshly showered, hair done and dressed in clothes that would clearly indicate he had no intention of doing any work let alone chimney cleaning. He came in turned on his flashlight looked up the chimney, turned the flashlight off and said "Very clean, no need to do a cleaning on this chimney. It'll be $100 for the inspection." I was shocked. If my two kids were not home I would have let him know how I really felt about the service that day but in an effort to get him out of my house I reluctantly paid the $100 and told him I needed a signed receipt stating the chimney was inspected by him and was approved for use and not in need of a cleaning which he did provide. It seems a lot of other reviewers had much different experiences but I can say mine was extremely poor. read more

They started to setup staging to repair my chimney, My wife asked Ron to take a look inside the house before he started the work on the outside and he said let's do one thing at a time. I then called him and asked him, he was very quick with me on the phone and came back to my house, took the staging down and said he quit the job. Just bought a new home and was due to have two chimneys cleaned. Researched a few different big chimney companies but came across Ron's chimney sweep and after reading a few reviews decided to give him a call. When speaking with him on the phone he was very patient asking me questions about the wood stove etc. Ron called the following day to confirm our appointment and time and arrived promptly. He arrived with his son and explained everything to me in detail before starting. Everything was done perfect and I could not have been happier. I specifically asked him whether he cleans the chute that goes down to oil burner and his responds was that this is a standard procedure for chimney cleaning. I specifically asked him to confirm the total cost and he did. I would like to start off by saying, My husband and I are all about supporting local business's, so therefore when we started with a leak in our home coming from our chimney I immediately started looking in the area for a chimney guy. I read reviews, and decided to give "Ron's Chimney Sweep" a call. Ron returned my call 4 days later at almost 9 pm. I explained the situation and was told he would come out the next day to check it out. As he walked towards my house he instantly states I know what the problem is. You have a hole in the corner of your chimney. "Squirrels cause that " ...Which upon further examination, that wasn't the case. The area he pointed too didn't even have a hole in it. Looking back, I should have turned him away right then and there. When he did finally get on a ladder to get on top of the roof , he came to the conclusion that the problem was the flashing. He quoted me at a price which I was fine with and (if it was more, then we would of been willing to pay that too)that the next "decent" day he would come to fix it. Due to the weather it wasn't until about a week or so later he showed up with his employee at 4:30'in the afternoon to start this job. My house rattled for hours. They worked in the cold dark hours until after 10 pm. I actually felt bad for them because it was very cold out, so i kept offering them hot drinks, but they refused. When they were done, they left shingles, brick pieces and nails all over. Never cleaned up after themselves. Before he left I said thank you, if I have any problems I'll give you a call. His reply was " please don't". Come Our next rain storm the leaking started all over again. My tile flooring and grout ruined. I hesitated to call him. I called another chimney/mason company to come check out the situation. As soon as they got on my roof, they shook their head with disgust and disbelief. Whatever Ron and his partner did made one heck of a mess. Not only is there lexonite all over my vinyl siding that is ALREADY cracking, but the shingles are lifting up and not even the same color as my current shingles. How gray shingles got confused with black is beyond me. Amongst other issues! I decided to give Ron a Courtesy call. Not that we wanted our money back, but for him to know how disappointed we were with the job he had done, because the problem was never fixed AND all they did was cause a mess. I talk to him in calm demeanor and of course he had to keep emphasizing how he worked for "peanuts" and did me a favor. Not something you say to a customer. I paid him MORE then what he even quoted me for ! Once he started getting rude, I handed my husband the phone. Once again, stated we were not calling to get our money back, but how we were disappointed in the job that was performed. He told my husband he would cut a check and bring it by. My husband stated that's up to you. Well he showed up alright. NOT to apologize, not to hand me a check, but To defend his work, express how he did me a favor and to take advantage of my husband not being home. He actually stood in my grass where the brick and shingle debris still remains from 3 weeks later and when I pointed it out he started picking up a few pieces. Really? Bottom line is, he is extremely unprofessional and does NOT have good people skills. Maybe if he wasn't busy putting windshield wiper fluid in his truck as his employee worked on the roofing portion, he would of seen the mess his "employee" was actually making ! read more

So far, my experience with Ron has been top notch. He spent a great deal of time with me on the phone before he even arrived. Drove out just as promised, and gave me an assessment of my situation. I'm converting to gas and was told by another sweep that I need to replace my old metal liner and there's brick pointing that should be done. Ron, who's a bricklayer by trade, told me the brickwork was fine and that I don't even HAVE a metal liner in the chimney. Sad as the other sweep was apparently highly rated, and maybe he just made a mistake, but Ron actually inspected it himself, and I trust his assessment. I'll come back to update the review if we have him do the liner, but as of right now, he deserves every star, and if you want a simple cleaning, his prices are reasonable. read more

We've been having Ron clean our chimney for a number of years. Every time he has come he has been quick, clean and courteous. The 1st year he repointed our chimney, installed a Lock-top chimney cap, and cleaned the chimney. Excellent work. Later that year we forgot to close the lock-top during a snow storm and the cap was damaged. Ron came back and repaired the cap at no charge. The first time he cleaned our chimney I was worried about the mess it would create in our living room which has white furniture. NO mess at all.
