Well, I did submit a review for the restaurant years ago. This is my first review for the actual rooftop and enjoying what they call the Tanoshi hour. I made a reservation just in case ahead of time and luckily I did as there were quite a few people who did show up. But I realize it never got totally full so you didn't have to make a reservation ironically enough, though all the tables have a reserve sign on it even though they aren't actually reserved for 3 o'clock or even all the way till 5 o'clock for that matter when I left. The menu for Tanoshi hours rather limited. In fact, there's not even a Dear menu. I understand the restaurant doesn't actually formally open until 5 o'clock and that by 3 o'clock when the rooftop opens, the restaurant has already officially closed for lunch. The service was absolutely incredible, except for the hostess at the hostess stand, who brought us to our table. And for a minute, I thought it was just us, but as I continue to observe her seating all the other visitors, I realized she really wasn't welcoming she didn't thank you for coming. She wasn't gracious to bring you to your table and that's just who she is. I do question though if this type of attitude is actually in line with the noble culture and definition of hospitality. The food as usual was great although limited. I wish they did have the cooling mess or fans upstairs. So I'm a little surprised that they don't have that because the rooftop seating is quite abundant. I would definitely come back here again if I'm in the neighborhood as I've been a lifelong Nobu Phan visiting Nobu locations all around the world read more

We enjoyed a morning at the Nobu rooftop for a brunch soirée event. Upon arrival, the views take your breath away. Servers were very attentive and constantly walked by offering drinks and clearing plates. Only downside was that we saw the same food plates offered at this passed hors d'oeuvres event and had to ask to try all the offerings! Food reviews: Kimchi breakfast sandwich--standout dish!! Umami in your mouth and the hashbrown patty was cooked to perfection Karange chicken and waffles--another perfectly balanced and well executed dish. Sweet and spicy flavor with great texture from the fried chicken Beef skewer--well cooked and came with a deeply flavorful marinade Banana miso cake--our favorite dessert! Some pals and I decided to start our evening at Nobu rooftop with some drinks. I'll say the drinks were great, and our server was so lovely and the view is wonderful. My only frustration was that they close at 11, but you can book reservations up to 10:30. That doesn't really make much sense especially because you're allotted two hours for the reservation so had I realize that the bar would be closing so soon after arrival and they would also turn off the music I probably would've chose it. Start my evening somewhere else. Either way it was still a nice time. I enjoyed it and now I know better for the future. read more

I have been craving the yellowtail from Nobu for weeeeeks, so imagine my surprise when I found out they host happy hour?! I've been in a "treat yo self" mood lately so I got more than that. Let's dig in! Started with the Salmon Dry Miso and omg it melts in your mouth. There's a crispy garlic on top too which just kicks it up a notch. I have no idea what that amazing citrusy sauce was that the salmon sat in, but I about licked the bowl clean. Fire. Next up is the rock shrimp tempura. Perfectly battered and creamy. It's so light and packs really good flavor. There's is also some type of citrus flavor. I don't know if that's the lettuce underneath with dressing or what, but I enjoyed it! Literally don't know if the lettuce underneath the shrimp was decorative lol because I ate it all! Wagyu slider was a hit. I'm not a burger girl, but they did this well. Loved the bun. It was like a mini crispy pancake and the slider itself had mushrooms and fried onions on it. Probably should've ordered one more of these. Then out came the yellowtail!! The reason I'm here and it did not disappoint. I scarfed it down! Bae said it's like walking on a cloud lol it is pretty light and just wow. Now I know why I've been craving for weeks. The spicy tuna crispy rice was meh. Could've done without for sure. Just lacked flavor and I could've ordered more yellowtail for that. Had the Grapefruit on the Rocks as a drink, and I like it. Not in love but that's okay, happy I tried it. It's very tart... and I know it's grapefruit, but it's more tart than refreshing (which is how it was described). I sat at the rooftop on my birthday in June. The weather was very windy and they proceeded to sit us outside, which was a little confusing. Everything was blowing all over the place and peoples glasses were breaking. It was also a little hard to get our servers attention. However, basing this review on the food, I can't say I was disappointed. The crispy rice with both the spicy tuna and the avocado were delicious. My favorite was the rock shrimp. The sauce really wasn't that spicy, and I'm someone who's not a big fan of spice. I got it on the side which made it easier to tolerate. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the lychee martini was remarkable! It was a very a high price point for the amount of food, totaling around $230- so this meal is definitely a treat for the average person. Ok here's the thing, the food we had there was excellent, but they were out of multiple items! It's frustrating to go out of your way to go somewhere for a special occasion and be told that all of the restaurants most popular items weren't available!! Loved the drinks and would have ordered more if we had had a more enjoyable experience. Side note it was our anniversary, which we put on the reservation, and it would have been nice to have some kind of acknowledgment. Not expecting sparklers but just something from what I thought would be a high end experience. My friends told me they had a reservation at Nobu Rooftop and were seated. I arrived and told the hostess, Becky with the Thin Hair, that I was looking for my friends. Had to spell the name BIANCA for her, and my friend's last name, multiple times, while multiple people were behind me waiting, before I finally asked if I could just do a quick walk around to see if I found them. The host stand has the place roped off like it contains state secrets. Becky told me I could not. I explained that I was not trying to stay there by myself, as I was looking for my two friends who said they were there. She still refused. Absolutely horrid service to a patron. I hope you enjoy your little piece of power for $15 per hour, Becky. Turns out my friends changed plans and went to the Nobu restaurant, which was fabulous with great service. I love it here. Not sure why it doesn't have more high ratings but as far as rooftops in the city goes, this spot is one of the best. They usually have a DJ but it's not too loud. Just gives a perfect vibe to have drinks and food at. And the food, wow. Their food is so top notch you won't be disappointed. We came at the tail end of brunch on Sunday and had basically the whole place to ourselves - we didn't realize we were going into happy hour time (last call for brunch is 245 and happy hour is from 3-5) so we actually lucked out. Service was 10/10 - everyone was so kind and patient with us even with that transition period. MUST TRY! This was an amazing experience. I came here for brunch with some friends on an early September afternoon. The weather was slightly cool, but the sun was beaming. We made a reservation ahead of time, and the host sat us right away. The view from the rooftop is incredible. The service is impeccable. I loved the DJ that was playing, I was not expecting that! Overall, really great vibes and beautiful views. I will probably go back but not get anything to eat. Nobu is a great choice for brunch. The spacious rooftop offers tables out in the sun as well as under the shade of a roof. I dined there with friends for the first time June 6. I ordered the Nobu Honey Toast, which was described as French toast filled with lemon curd. The presentation was beautiful -- it arrived looking like a slice of cake with berries on top, and I couldn't wait to dig in. The lemon curd filling was delicious -- not too sweet, and perfectly smooth. My only complaint was that it wasn't bigger -- I could have eaten two of them! $16 was on the expensive side for such a light meal, but again, it was delicious. The menu is on the small side, and there aren't really non-breakfast-food options for those who don't enjoy eggs and the like. The menu is also a bit pricey, especially considering the portions are on the small side. Our bill for four light breakfasts and a few beverages (cappuccino, coffee and two mimosas) came to about $135, so it may not be a place for frequent visits. But it's still a fun treat on a summer day. read more

Underwhelming. The apps and drinks are great, but so not worth the price point (see below). It's a nice space, but I didn't think the view was anything to write home about. I've definitely seen better, and the high and opaque balconies didn't help. You basically have to have a high-top or stand on your tippy-toes to enjoy any semblance of a view of the city. For drinks I enjoyed the lychee martini and I've had a sip of the Japanese old fashioned. Is it worth $20 each? No it is not. For food I've tried the tuna mini tacos, spicy tuna avocado crispy rice, rock shrimp tempura, black cod, and a couple simple maki rolls. It's all good, don't get me wrong, but I struggle to understand the price point especially when the portions are teeny tiny. The service was also not commensurate with my expectations. Overall, I feel like Rooftop Nobu rides on the coattails of its namesake and swanky west loop location. We decided to pop into Nobu rooftop last minute before heading to the United Center for a concert. The view was beautiful and stopping in for a quick glass of wine when the sun was setting or the Golden Hour, makes for great lighting to snap a photo of the city skyline. Another plus, the Uber ride to the United Center was only $7.00. Keep this location in mind if you're looking for dinner before an event at the UC. It worked perfectly!!! read more

I booked a table at the rooftop to enjoy the nice weather, when we got there the hostess assigned us a dark spot near DJ table, which is super loud and has 0 view of rooftop, then I immediately asked for resign the seat, as there are a lot of nice tables out on the terrace are available. Talked to another hostess and she directed me to the front desk, and I heard she is taking to the front desk hostess "just tell her there's no table available now". Like are you serious???? So the front desk hostess told me there's no table to switch, I then asked I saw there are plenty of nice empty tables around, she said: "oh there's special event, for our regular customers who liked this table". What a lie! Then we just left, never come back again. Talked to at least 3 different hostess none of them are helpful and respectful. They just want to shoo you away. High society, high class, swanky, and sophisticated. All these describe how you'll feel hanging out on Nobu's rooftop. It's a stellar spot to grab a drink or a bite with friends. We went for an after dinner cocktail with a small group and it was the perfect setting we were looking for to end the night. A major contributing factor was the weather as we lucked out with a spectacular offering. But the locale itself is very nice (decor) and popular with people of all types. A true melting pop in all the best ways. Able to secure a table off to the side we all settled in and chatted away while sipping delicious beverages. A wide array of cocktails and wine was indulged upon and it was all aces. As was the service, which stands out in my mind as it was busy while we were there. My personal favorites were the crispy shiitake salad and assortment of maki. The shiitake salad surprised me with the variety of textures and delish citrusy flavor. The maki was simple and fresh. I had HIGH HOPES for the famous rock shrimp dish and although it was good, I didn't think it lived up to the hype. My experience at Nobu rooftop was super disappointing. The process felt super disorganized from the beginning to the end. Reservation- I made a reservation over the phone for 2 people. I was told I will get a confirmation text but never received anything. I tried calling again over 5x after that through out days but no one ever picked up. I ended up emailing to get the confirmation but they said the reservation was 3 people. I replied to correct it to 2 but never heard back. Atmosphere- we wanted to order a lot of food and drinks and the table was too small. There was no room to store coats and bags either. We saw a larger empty round table near us and asked our host if we could get seated there. She told us we can't because there will be a larger group sitting there. 15 min later, 2 people sat there. They only ordered a couple drinks. And we didn't have any room in our table for food. It was frustrating getting lied to. Food- the food option was extremely limited and the food is not up to Nobu standard. I have been to the LA Nobu and the experience in this one was extremely disappointing. I don't think I will be going back despite the nice view. Everything seemed very unorganized and the service we received was also not up to the Nobu standard. So we did not stick around for dessert or even a second drink.. Nonetheless, the views and vibes were great. Food was delicious too. We really enjoyed the yellowtail jalapeño and black miso cod. I doubt we will be back as there are many other Chicago restaurants at a high price point with incredible service. This isn't one of them unfortunately. read more

We were so excited to snag a reservation at Nobu Rooftop for lunch during our girls weekend! We had heard nothing but great things about the food and couldn't wait to try it out. However, the service of such a high end restaurant couldn't have been more disappointing.... First, the good - the food! We shared the Yellowtail Jalapeño, the Tuna and King Crab Nobu Tacos, the Rock Shrimp Tempura, the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, and the Chocolate Sobacha Cake! All the items were equally amazing and worth every penny. The seafood was so fresh and the smell of the chocolate cake filled the air and enticed us to order it before we had even finished our mains! Not pictured was our cocktails which were also fantastic and I definitely recommend trying the Lychee Martini! Now, the not so good.... being that Nobu has such a fantastic reputation we were expecting the service to match up. However, we were extremely disappointed and shocked with our experience. Upon arriving it was raining and rather than have us wait for a table inside, they made us sit outside while it was still raining? Additionally, we never once knew who our waiter was as we had about 10 different people come to our table waiting on us. At one point they completely forgot about our table and we had to go up to the hostess stand to get our check. Valet at the hotel was also rude and unprofessional.
