I work over at 17th an Wynkoop. I had the most terrifying experience of my life. My good friend wanted to come; I loved this place (took fam and friends from out of town). We went and after about 45 mins, my friend wanted to dance and she had been told to chill so I told her to chill. Next thing I know I'm GRABBED by BOTH arms to a back hallway and THROWN outside. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of this bar. Loved the book to write in and answer conversational questions. 1st drink was strong (!!!), subsequent ones were a little less full. It was crowded but lively the night we went. Bouncers tried to boot a bachelor party because they were singing and said it wasn't a frat party. I thought that was a bit much. The drinks were good and the music is great. Some of these review are complaining about playing Jay Z because "rap doesn't go with the ambiance...?" Ok...I guess. That is an opinion. In my opinion Jay Z and the like are quite palatable for the scene. Learn the difference between rap, trap music and hip hop. There are next to 0 places that are classy and play Good Hip Hop. Came here the first time last weekend and was pleasantly surprised. For some reason I thought it would be a pretty low key location to start off a night out, but it was packed fairly early on a Friday night. Drinks were pricier than what I'm used to paying for wells, but the atmosphere made it worth it. The patrons seem to be in their mid twenties to thirties, so it's a nice place to escape the hordes of newly turned 21 year olds that frequent the bars in the area (Sorry 21 year olds, you're great and all but you make me feel old!). The upper balcony area was nice for escaping the main hub and was a prime people watching location. The bar tenders were friendly and one of them even made a free mixed shot for my friend, which she said was delicious. And other than one group of particularly pushy guys, everyone else who was there was friendly and respectful. But the best part...the bathrooms disguised as bookshelves! They were super cool and made me feel like I was at Hogwarts (at least if Hogwarts had a full bar). read more

The bartenders at Roosevelt's are amazing. Gabriel, Johnny, Sam and the rest of the guys make it a fun experience. They take the time to get to know their customers. I had only been in their once before and Gabriel remembered my name! I asked Johnny for a drink with a coconut flavor and he mixed the best drink I had ever had! I asked Johnny what the name of the drink was and he made it special for me. Sam didn't have one ingredient for a shot we wanted but he improvised and made a great tasting shot. These bartenders know how to treat their customers. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat. I would highly recommend this bar as a must if you are looking for a fun night out! read more

Stopped in after a comedy show on a Sunday, great location and staff. I generally prefer low key speakeasy bars and good whiskey. Told the bartender Geoff what I usually prefer and asked if he would just craft something delicious and he did not disappoint! I've come here on 2 occasions & enjoyed both visits. Roosevelt is a new (under a year-old) lounge that'll make you feel in place if you're dressed slightly nicer. Cocktails are pricey but they do have a happy hour. The discount is not huge however. This place is real classy, hipster & trendy. There are colorful books on the wall, a menu book with tons of autographs/drawings/quotes, cool industrial looking lights, open front window area that faces the street & a long/large bar area. I had the French 75 - (Gin, Fresh Lemon Juice, House Made Simple Syrup, Champagne,Lemon Zest) & the Paloma - (Tequila, Fresh Lime Juice, Grapefruit Soda, Grapefruit Twist). Cocktails were nicely decorated with crunchy ice. This place has an upscale lounge feel with multi-split-level seating. They're open until 2AM surprisingly. I've never come here during the late hours but I'm sure it's popping. I'll try the Aviation - (Gin, Maraschino, Fresh Lemon Juice, Crème Violette, Lemon Zest) next time I come! read more

If only this place served food!!! The cocktails were expertly crafted with attention to detail, the servers were attentive but never intrusive and the ambience is perfect. If you haven't been here before the restrooms are hidden in plain sight. Look for the M and W on the bookshelves. The menus are incorporated into a book that you can write in. This was a great element for coworkers getting to know one another on an out of state trip. The book contains writing prompts and the server provided pens to add our thoughts. Reading the responses of previous patrons was even more enjoyable than writing our own. If I am ever back in Denver I will certainly stop in. read more

Hipster business casual? It's certainly sophisticated inside, dimly lit, and slightly narrow. Almost like being in an upscale library hallway that serves cocktails...The liquor options are extensive. The menu consists of cocktails $10 and up. The bartenders were an equal balance of friendly and smug. The friendly bartender offered us a round of makers shooters he took with us when he noticed we were sipping on old fashions. You can write drink concoctions in the back of the menu's and the bookshelves are secret doors into the bathrooms. Neat huh? Good place to start or end the night with a fancy cocktail. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I have been to the Roosevelt 4 times. My first 3 experiences were great. That is why I am at least giving 2 stars. I would even give 2 1/2 if it allowed me to, but my experience last night required a rounding down rather than a rounding up. Last night I went to the Roosevelt with a group of girls for a bachelorette party. When we got there the place was still pretty empty, as it was early in the evening. We figured great we would have time for a drink and move on. We sat down and the horrible experience began right away. Our waitress came over with the drink menu. I feel horrible saying this because I am not one to judge other people's demeanors and personalities, but it appeared that she was either drunk or on something (I apologize if she was not and this was just her personality, but it felt very awkward). As we began to order, she criticized everyone's drink choices. Then when one girl ordered only a water she criticized that. Sorry that the girl was being responsible as she was DD for the night. I then ordered a tonic water with lime, which was also criticized publicly. Sorry I am pregnant and can't drink alcohol! Some of the girls ordered patron shots and the waitress says she is going to buy herself one to have with them. Our drinks finally came some 20 minutes or more later ( and yes I realize that these are all cocktails that take time, but this was exceptionally long considering only 2 cocktails that take a lot of time were ordered at our table and the bar was half empty). She then brought me soda water and acknowledges that I had ordered tonic water, but announces that soda water is lower in sugar. Two very different tastes, I can't even drink my water. After two rounds of shots (we didn't dare order another cocktail considering how long the first round took), we finally got our check over an hour later. On the bill is the waitress' patron shot and an extra drink she brought to the table that no one ordered and she had even acknowledged no one ordered it. We got both items taken off the bill after another 20 minutes (mind you we have told the waitress we have a show to make and need to be leaving). This was after she approached our table very defensively stating that she would never put her drink on our tab. We get the bill sorted out, give our methods of payments and explain to her in great detail how it is to be divided (at the start of the night she said we could divdd the bill as many ways as we want...no problem). One girl paid with cash, but her credit card had been kept open at the bar (required by the bar, which is fine). The waitress then proceeds to charge the credit card and keep the cash saying she thought it was her tip, even though we had explained in detail that each girl was going to leave their own tip when she brought the change and credit cards back to the table. So now we have to wait even longer to get the cash back. We left the bar with 5 minutes to run to the show. Thankfully the show was great and redeemed the previous 1 1/2 + hours. I think I will stick with the Green Russel when I want a fancy cocktail. read more

Holy WOW. Bartenders, from other bars, referred us here and I totally loved it. It is a cool loungy place to hang alongside a delicious drink made by cool and classy bartenders. Very modern and clean look inside, with the tiny details of an old fashioned speakeasy. The staff was super chill and patrons were friendly. Met a few people actually who work in the industry, so it was awesome to see what places they enjoy personally. My absolute FAVORITE thing- the menu!!! Non-pretentious craft cocktail bar with friendly bartenders and bad ass menus. These guys sling some of the best cocktails I've had. These guys change menus a few times a year with whatever they've concocted or if they're not busy they're not afraid to hand you an experiment (upon request). Don't feel like a cocktail? Beers a plenty and shots aren't frowned upon here. Chartreuse on tap for $5 too! Usually there's no bros or scarf wearing hipsters to look down upon you for your Coors heavy order. Great date night place. Check out the menus; after the first few pages there are pages full of questions such as "What was your most embarassing drunk moment", etc. This makes a great conversation piece. Overall: Good cocktails but the bar seems confused on what it wants to be. We were here on a recent date night where we were walking around downtown try different cocktail locals. Honestly the cocktails at the Roosevelt were great and lived up to what I was hoping for, but upon entering the bar it became clear that it wasn't sure what it wanted to be. The decor gives of this really cool library meets 007 vibe (potential for being ultra cool if it leaned into it). However when we were there (between 9 and 10:30pm at night) they were playing loud club music, it was a total atmosphere mismatch. If the bar decided to play (quieter) rat pack or 1960s British rock/pop/lounge this place could be packing it in. Instead while we're there, there were no more than 6 people in the bar the entire time. If ownership made a simple music change it would change the entire vibe of this place and I am sure it would be a great place. But at current I wouldn't really recommend the Roosevelt. There are other great cocktail places downtown who definitely have nailed the atmosphere element...look for one of those instead. read more

After reading about Roosevelt's online, I was eager to try. I love handcrafted cocktails, and have a high appreciation for drinks. We went on a friday night, probably not ideal to get a good array of drinks, especially when ordering from there specialties menu. Nonetheless, the bartenders were amazing! There was no delay in getting drinks, and were very friendly. The drinks themselves were delicious! I had two from there speciality menu, the Blonde Ambition, and there take on a Ward Eight. Both were phenomenal. The atmosphere was also a delight, the bathrooms hidden behind bookshelves, the beautiful lighting about the bar. Did I mention they have Chartreuse on tap? This is my new favorite cocktail bar. Reasonable prices, friendly servers, DELICIOUS drinks, and a cozy atmosphere. Their menus have fun pages to write in- each has a question you can answer. Great conversation starters. The bathroom door is a bookshelf, which was at first confusing and then confidence boosting when you introduce others to the bar and get to tell them "I know the secret passage to where we can pee...." Anyway. If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy a drink, this is a great week day spot. If you're looking for the same on weekends....be warned. This place gets crazy packed Friday/Saturday night. Like, standing room only packed. Like, I feel guilty for the servers trying to squeeze their way through the crowd packed. I accidentally stumbled across this bar when I was out one night with friends. I don't go out to bars downtown very much (I'm very submerged in a music scene so I spend a lot of time at multiple places away from the bar scene), but this is one bar I would love to go to every night! The design of the place is so cool. There's a bar top, lounge like area, and high tops. It's got book shelves so it looks kinda like a library but with a modern twist with a bar added in. The decor is simple but really cool and the atmosphere is always nice. There are bookshelf doors that go into the bathrooms. It's tricky! The drink menu here has a variety of beverages to choose from. Whether you like whiskey or vodka, they most likely have a specialty cocktail that's bound to make you want more. I usually come here during the week because it's rather quiet. You can chat with the bartenders and it doesn't take long to get drinks. On the weekends is rather busy. They are located next to front porch so there's always a lot of people between the two. The drink menu is fun and creative. They're books and on the first pages are the cocktails they have. The rest of the book are blank pages and each page has a category or question at the top that has a question to answer. Just ask the bartender for a pen and you can entertain yourself forever flipping through the pages and seeing what others have added to the book. read more
