Our party of 7 spent 3 days at the Hilton Garden Inn which is attached to this restaurant, Roost. The last night we decided to have dinner here since it was "close to home" and it was a wonderful dinner! The menu offered a wide variety of items and all 7 of us ordered something different...everyone raved about what they had ordered. I had the Pan Seared Salmon which had such wonderful flavors...one of the best salmon dishes I have ever eaten (and I order salmon frequently)! The Revel & Roost joint website is odd. It seemed like Revel is ONLY open for breakfast and brunch, but when we got to the restaurant, both parts were open. (Looking at their website more closely, I found their dinner, but the way they advertise it on the main page is odd.) We hope to try Revel at some point. Roost had very good food and a bunch of things I wanted to try, though their menu was pretty limited. Roost has no happy hour drink specials, so if you want one of those, stop in Revel downstairs first. Roost was also fairly empty, so we didn't really need a reservation, but I like to make them to be safe if they take reservations. The dish I was most interested in (scallops) had a lot I didn't like (I tried it, since my friend got it and I'm glad I skipped it, since I'm not a fan of peppers), but they have a scallop appetizer I'd like to get next time. The dinner also came with some delicious bread and dipping sauces/spreads. There was a LOT of food, so an appetizer wasn't necessary. I ate all the best stuff from my meal, but couldn't have possibly finished my meal after sharing the appetizer. Very good service and food. I'd definitely recommend it & look forward to trying Revel. read more

My wife picked this place to try for restaurant week in Pittsburgh. We seldom go downtown for dinner and used this opportunity to try somewhere new. Restaurant week featured a 3 course meal from Roost which my wife and I both decided to partake in. Roost is just a short walk away from market square and it's on the second floor as you walk into the building. We were seated fairly quickly upon arriving with reservations. The inside is extremely impressive; it is very clean and portrays a fancy classy atmosphere. Before our food came out we were given bread with cinnamon butter and sweet pepper jam. The sweet pepper jam didn't really work for me with the bread, but the cinnamon butter was on par. For my appetizer round I ordered the burrata cheese which came with a peach brulee, blackberry reduction, and grilled ciabatta. I found this dish a little challenging to eat together, but overall Ok to try. The burrata cheese itself is a rather interesting concept and texture. The peach is really the only complaint I have as you could tell it wasn't a fresh peach even though they were in season at the time. For my entree I ordered the salmon. It came on a bed of green beens and had a orange butter puree spread around the dish. The salmon dish was cooked nicely. For dessert I had chocolate cheesecake which ended up being way too much to finish. It was solid and a good portion size. The reason why this is a 2 star for me is the service. The bartender (I think it was Bob) was our waiter and ended up having to wait on us, 6 other tables, and 2 people at the bar. One of the tables had 8 people around it and so he was constantly running around and apologizing to tables for the delay. He even apologized to us for our entree as one of the other tables who arrived well after us received their entree before us. Bob was even having to run the food himself despite appearing that there were other staff members standing around. Bob was able to stay very well composed and calm for being extremely overwhelmed. Our dinner ended up taking us 3 hours to eat 3 courses with some long waiting periods in between dishes. This is very unacceptable for the price. It wasn't until we had our dessert brought out some staff or manager was upstairs helping. By this time it was far too late. Overall decent food but not worth the agony of the disorganization. I would steer clear of here unless you have lots of time to kill. It's unfortunate because this sort of disorganization seems very avoidable. read more

Have attended many events at Roost over the past few months, notably the comedian Jeff Leeson played at Roost and was amazing and then a month or so later The Wailers played a concert there! I can't wait to see what Roost does next! read more

I was really excited to try this place out and was quickly disappointed. We made reservations on Friday night and were the only people in the restaurant when we walked up. I guess that should have been our first sign. Our waitress brought out some bread and a cinnamon butter and a chili pepper jelly. The bread was probably the best part of the meal. It was all downhill from there. We started with the crabcakes - they were "okay"...definitely not worth the $16. For an entree, my husband ordered a medium rare ribeye and I ordered the seabass special. In the words of my husband, it was "a small town Denny's steak served at NYC price. Overcooked and tasteless meat. The mashed potatoes were good though." The seabass was disappointing as well. I found a bone in each of the first 3 bites. The asparagus was good though, I guess. Still, we stuck it out and tried some dessert - more disappointment. The summer cobbler was super crumbly and tasteless and you needed a knife to try to cut through the peaches. I will never go back and waste my money there again. Way too expensive for what you're given. One good thing I can say is that our waitress was nice and attentive. read more

I guess Roost is part of the hotel restaurant, so there was a buffet option available for breakfast, which isn't advertised anywhere online. The food was okay but nothing special. Most of us chose buffet and a few just ordered a la cart. Like I said, our meals were okay, but it was nothing special... and the service was unfortunately just lacking. After sitting at the bar for over 15 minutes and making multiple eye contacts with the waitstaff and bartender, we finally were able to ask for a menu. It took another 15 to put in our drink order. I ordered the corned beef hash for breakfast on a weekday from Roost. I was confused about the cubes of meat that did not look or taste like corned beef. The hash was under-cooked and the egg was over-cooked. I ordered grits as the side - they were completely flavorless aside from the slight taste of burnt grits. If I could give a zero I would. I Ordered chicken and dumplings, the chicken wasn't fully cooked so, I sent it back and they brought me a new one. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious.. but, they charged me for the entree and when I asked the reason, the waitress was extremely rude/ they gave me $15 off. Really? Their customer service is terrible, the service is slow, and they don't make a concerted effort to check the temperature of their food (another person at my table had to send their food back) I was sick the entire weekend as a result. read more

This place is amazing. The food is amazing the service is amazing. The management team makes sure to interact with each table, any issues are handled right away. They have a great selection of wines. By far the worst bartender this evening. While greeting us (in no hurry), she was wiping food from her mouth, saying she had just eaten Mac and cheese. (Ew!) We ordered off of the happy hour menu, only to find out that the menu items that we ordered were incorrect. When we asked her about this, she basically told us that the menu was wrong, and we should not have had that menu,... though it was on the bar . She was unapologetic and the whole evening seemed bothered to wait on anyone around us. With my friend visiting from out of town, it seemed like a poor choice with so many other options in market square. We will not return. read more

Roost had a great Mother's Day brunch in the past but this year was a bust. It went from a really nice buffet in years past to a small selection of pre-defined entrees. The entrees were over complicated and excessive. Kids menu didn't have the basics (e.g. no bacon? Cmon). I my wife looked at the options for us and our two under-10 kids and decided to walk out. Okay where to start? I picked this place with a spin of a roulette wheel during summer restaurant week. I can say I got a winner. It started with the roasted red pepper hummus followed by the shrimp and lobster gumbo, which led to my steak and sea scallop finished off with a summer cobbler. We're always excited to try new places during restaurant week that we wouldn't normally go to. Our party of four was sat in the corner but that was perfect for us. The restaurant wasn't that busy but again I'm not interested in over crowded and noisy can't talk to my fellow tablemates atmosphere. Our waitress Courtney did an excellent job guiding us through our dinner choices. She was attentive and more than willing to make sure our evening was perfect. Had some great clients from NYC in for a business meeting and we decided to head to Roost. First, let me say that they were impressed for even NYC standards. The location is above the more casual Revel which is a gastrobar type establishment. We ordered the Scallops appetizer, some soups, salads and finished with some of the best steaks we ever had, we also has some great wine which they decanted for me tableside which offered a bit of upscale class. The service was very good and the atmosphere was very beautiful with Nest like lighting and lots of the Edison bulb vibe and a good chill music. I would peg the design as rustic yet industrial/modern. Roost is great for a business meal or a romantic dinner for sure. We will return soon to try their next menu. read more

Started off the meal with an Old Fashioned with Bulleit Rye and the Hot Metal Martini. Both drinks were mixed perfectly and plenty tasty. Next was the Artisanal Cheese Plate which featured a goat cheese, Tomme de Fayette drizzled in balsamic vinegar, and a sharp cheddar accompanied by a single crostini. All very good. My meal of the 5 oz. petite Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection, Hokkaido scallops were the best I've ever had, and mashed potatoes weren't bad. Rating my meal, I would have given the restaurant a 4. My girlfriend ordered the chicken and dumplings, and it was nothing you'd expect from a restaurant aiming for fine dining. The chicken breast was basically jerky and the dumplings were also dry and falling apart in our mouths. Bottom line: If you find yourself here, get a steak. read more

Was walking around market square today and noticed revel. My friend and I stopped in for dinner. Once walking in we were greeted very friendly by the host. At the host stand we were looking over the menu. The manager (Kevin) stopped over and talked to us while looking over the menu and he talked us in to eating in roost. He sat us in a nice little table by the window. Everything we had was AMAZING, from the burnt ends appetizer to the scallop pasta. Our server Chelsea was wonderful too. The food and service are not very good. Eggs have no flavor and there's not even salt on the table to make them somewhat better. Silverware isn't wrapped in a napkin, it's just sitting out getting covered in any germs from the table... yuck read more

Stopped by for a lackluster breakfast this morning. This was my third visit in 2 months and each time service and food have not been as good as the last. I would recommend the eggs Benedict, but both the omelet and scrabbled egg dishes that I have ordered came out dry and over cooked. The service itself is meh, and from where I was seated, I had the opportunity to watch numerous people wait in a near empty restaurant for someone to seat them & take their order. I would like to see how they approach dinner service, but if it is anything like their breakfast, I would stay away. read more
