Been traveling for 2 weeks. Saw a billboard for Rooster's and we decided to try it Sunday afternoon. The lot was packed. Parked our Airstream at the lot next door and walked over. So worth it! I had REAL chicken fried steak from scratch with mashed potatoes and veggies. Hubby had hamburger steak with mushrooms. Both were delish! Taking dessert with us. Brittan helped us and was lovely! Great home cooked meals, reasonable prices and great service. Easy to find right off I/84, we were there at noon on a Monday and got right in. Breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items were available. We had breakfast for lunch, which was excellent. They even cooked my bacon to order.. crispy.. so good! Since all the covid garbage and all the silly mandates have occurred I haven't reviewed as many eating establishments that I normally do. That said, It was my first time to eat - dine-in here. And wow - what a performance! Great service - no waiting at the time I arrived which was about 11:30 local - and my plate of food - monstrous! Now - I am not a small guy but to say I got full is an understatement! The food was fresh - and nothing appeared to be "kit" type food. The plate was well presented, well-proportioned and the service friendly and efficient. If you like breakfast, which is my go to comfort food, this is a place you need to try. Went here for brunch on our last day in Pendleton. Loved the name & had to go. It was about 11am & I wanted breakfast & hubby wanted lunch so this place worked out perfectly. I had the small breakfast with one egg, hashbrowns, bacon & one piece of toast. The one egg was really small. :( Really wish a 2 egg breakfast would have been a more affordable price. Hashbrowns were plentiful. Hubby had a combo that came with a cup of their delicious chicken noodle soup, a small salad & a half a sandwich. He got the Cattlemans sandwich. All very good. This not a Paris bistro, it's Americana. It has so much character and uniqueness that I am crowning it as a tourist stop but a good one. It's good enough. The LARGE colorful artsy billboard is certainly inticing and guess what, it brought me in, but it was a good fun. You might even get a good meal and good service...we did. Don't forget to do some drawing. It might make it onto the wall. When you go there you will entertained. As good as a Disneyland restaurent. Stopped in for early lunch. I ordered the steak tenderloin that came with steamed veggies and mashed potatoes. Everything and I mean everything on the plate was fantastic. I am very picky when it comes to steak. Very little pink but well done usually lends to overcooked. Well they got it right, perfect. Get a dinner roll with it. Chocolate milk shake was delicious. A lovely stop on our looooong road trip. The BLAT was generous and the bacon wasn't overcooked to tastelessness as is often the case with BLTs. The turkey club was good. The kid's Mac and cheese was uninspired but they liked it. My only complaint was that I got a beautiful bowl of fresh fruit with my sandwich and the kids got a mandarin orange fruit cup. My wife and I went to dinner tonight. Been patronizing Roosters since the day it has opened over 25 years ago. Will NEVER go back. Ordered a simple Burger Dip, with the added grilled onions and cheese. Shows up with dried up slivers of onions, please see photos. Asked the waitress (who was genuinely awesome) if she could maybe get some more grilled onions. She apologized and went right back to help. We were sitting on the complete opposite side of the restaurant and could hear the cook arguing with her and saying we'd have to pay for more. When she came back we told her we could hear and I was no longer interested in eating my meal. The waitress called the owner and we got a 50 cent credit for the onions. I had to pay for the food I sent back. WOW!!! I tipped the waitress well, never raised my voice, made a scene or said a foul word. I would no longer EVER recommend Roosters to anyone! I could go on and on, but I was genuinely wanting to patronize a locally owned business I've know for decades. Hearing the cook argue and make a scene (across the restaurant) over simple grilled onions completely turned me off to ever wanting to go back. Then the waitress being SO nice and apologetic, yet the owner only allowing a 50 cent credit for a refused meal... I simply don't get it. So many years, meals, literal banquets hosted at Roosters by my friends, families, and colleagues over the years and to hear a cook yelling across a restaurant, I'm sorry, but I no longer trust the food. I cannot believe the resolution of 50 cent credit. Really? Maybe AT LEAST not charge me for a full plate meal sent back....? Nope, full charge, 50 cent credit. And like I said, 22% tip on the super awesome waitress that got to deal with the brunt of the cook, owner, and customer situation. She doesn't deserve to work in such a poor situation. read more

The menu prices for lunches and dinners has a notable increase since the last posting of menus so I'm posting current prices. We almost didn't stay once we saw the wait since we have a long drive back home but I'm glad we did. I had the Veracruz omelet and it was the most flavorful omelet that I've ever had. Everything there is pretty good stopped in there a few days ago for an omelette, and it was a large omelette with lots of hashbrowns, wasn't really thrilled with the sausage that they had. We ate here for dinner while staying at the Wild Horse RV Park. Just a short drive. Pretty average atmosphere. I think this restaurant has been here a long time and since locals were claiming it to be good, we tried it. I had the two piece fish and chips. Very good. My husband had the Meatloaf Patty Melt and although quite good, waaaay too thick of a slice, so it was difficult to eat. We took the rest home and made another sandwich the next day. Well place has issues. To be blunt owner is blind on how they turned there restaurant into a hoarders paradise. the dinning area is just in disrepair with missing tiles covered by m maybe kids drawing of a chicken. As a Customer the food was just OK . nothing to say not good or the reader here would not be happy. As a part time restaurant consultant this place is missing the mark of a good Chicken place. Someones mind set here is turning it into some kind of cafe with long hours and the menu is all over the board. Too many items on the menu . The entire front end needs to come out. and a nice design for a deli case for premium homemade chicken pot pies and all things chicken a customer could buy and take home and cook. . Hours need to change to 11 to 9 and a focus on what business there in ( Chicken). They have the basis of a great place , and worth a trip . Maybe breakfast stuff is better but lunch/dinner, not so much. Pretty basic menu and pricey for what you get. Tender but stringy yankee pot roast. Slightly undercooked cod. I give it 4 stars. (Covid-19 times) staff & customers are wearing masks- clearly you can remove it when you're seated. Children without masks seemed fine. We had a part of 3 adults and one toddler. I ordered the Prime Rib Dip. It's just the meat & bread. If you want onions, cheese that's extra. I just preferred it without this. The AuJu Sauce is a little different than what I normally have. If you don't like salt I don't recommend this. Our server was friendly and wasn't pushy. They were pretty full as well- social distancing was in order. The only thing I picked up on is they garnish every dish like pasta wise with green onion. It's like you go to Italian restaurants & they use parsley- green onion here. So beef stroganoff is decked with green onion as well as meatless Alfredo and regular chicken Alfredo- that's what our tables meals were. Overall it was decent. I didn't order dessert but I see the table across from us had cheesecake with toppings & that actually looked really good- next time I'll snag some. Nine hours in a compact car with a four year old could, in some countries, be considered cruel and unusual punishment. Even with as wonderful a son as the Tax Deduction is, he was tired of driving, we were tired of driving and come about Pendleton after driving since southeast Idaho we were all ready for a break. We decided on a real sit down kind of place when I remembered Roosters. Roosters has some billboards along with fruited plain which helped jog my memory. The Tax Deduction liked the cartoonish Rooster on the sign which momentarily took his attention away from the fact we were driving by a perfectly good McDonald's. I mean c'mon, if you are four Chez Mac is the best place in the world, right? We were seated immediately, but we really didn't like the seating arrangement and requested something different, which the waitress made happen without even a complaint or a roll of the eyes. Bonus points for that. Menu's in hand we set about trying to decide from a variety of excellent sounding options. The kids menu was a little high class for such a place I thought. No peanut butter & jelly, no macaroni & cheese, no corn dog bites type of thing, which isn't a bad thing really, so the Tax Deduction decided on the fettuccine alfredo with carrots & ranch dip. That done we turned our attention to the big person menu. I try not to fall into the Jewish stereotype of being cheap but I have to say there was some sticker shock involved when I viewed the prices. Dinners averaged $15 maybe a little more. Every burger was about $10. We thought about moving on but after getting reseated and the service seemed nice and above all that we didn't dare move the Tax Deduction again without food in him we decide to look for the sandwich options. We decided on a Monte Cristo for me and the Reuben for the Wife, each came with a side dish for under $10. Ordering done we did the obligatory thing all travelers do and hit the rest rooms. Nice and clean, well stocked graffiti free. Bonus points! Now here is the cool part for those families traveling I-84, in the middle of the restaurant is a small red barn built for kids. In the barn is a freezer with three ice cream choices, after dinner the kids can go in and pick out his own dessert. Better than that, on the side of the barn, hanging on pegs are different games your kid can take to the table and play with! Electronic games, mazes with the little metal balls in them, etch-a-sketch; a lot of neat choices. Food arrived and everything looked real good. Tasted pretty good too. The Monte Cristo came with raspberry freezer jam to spread on the sandwich if desired, lots of curly fries and pickles on the side. All in all a pretty good sandwich. Reuben was very good tasting and the fettuccine was even not bad. All in all we were pretty happy with our stop choice for it was what we needed. I would love to see them re-evaluate their pricing a little but all in all a worthy place to stop. read more

I always wonder when reviewers do their ratings and complain about food or ambiance, to they ever consider the location? This is a small town restaurant and not the Ritz in Paris so you can't compare. We were in Pendleton and refused to eat at the casino, horrible, so we looked for breakfast on our way out of town. Roosters had some decent Yelp reviews and it was on the way. It's obviously family oriented, play area for the kids, white paper with crayons on the table and a menu that caters to the diner who chooses not to consider dining an adventure. That said, we had a very nice breakfast that was filling and 6 hours later I'm still full. I had a nice omelet with veggies and cheese which came with a side of sour cream and guacamole. Now granted that obviously came out of a package but it was good on my eggs. Also got two pieces of toast and hash browns. My husband had an omelet with jalapenos, veggies and sausage and he said it was wonderful. Worth stopping if you're in that direction and looking for food. read more

It's hard to find a restaurant in Pendleton unless you don't mind having fast food. I saw Denny's, Taco Bell, McDonald's, Burger King, and Abby's pizza on our way. Roosters is a old restaurant with old decor, the menus were dirty and worn-out. Food isn't cheap here, especially considering how old the restaurant looks. I ordered the grilled chicken breast from the Light Entrees section of the menu, it came with chicken noodle soup or additional $1 for a substitution of a side salad. Everyone else loved the soup but I didn't care for it. The flavor was great but the noodle was soggy, "fluffy" and gooey. The grilled chicken, however, was delicious and the sautéed veggie was flavorful. The mashed potato tasted great with the gravy but the bread that came with my dinner was bad. Their sandwiches were good too, my family enjoyed them. I like that they use Fiesta dishes, but they looked old, and when the dishes look old, they look dirty. I was surprised by how good their food was, I honestly didn't expect much when I walked in. Is it worth 4 stars? Umm, not really, if Roosters were in Portland, it would just be a mediocre restaurant; but it's in Pendleton, with not many restaurants around, so I gave it 4 stars. read more

You may be searching for a place to eat as you drive by on I84. If you like over priced food and small portions, this could the place for you. I ordered a Rueben Sandwich and fries with a Diet Pepsi. After tax it set me back $16.98. While rye bread was of good quality, the "thinly sliced corned beef" was indeed thin. I had maybe 5 shavings of it. Maybe 3oz of meat. Fries were served unseasoned. Overall, the restaurant is clean. Server was polite. But I'd never eat here again as I can get better value and overall quality from Arby's. My friend who I was dining with had their bacon jalapeño on a bioche bun. Menu price alone of $15.99. 6oz patty and same mediocre fries. While his food was admittedly good, it was not great. Neither of our meals justified the nearly $42 dollars we spent at this place. We feel fleeced, and this experience has motivated me to start writing yelp reviews. read more

After a couple of weeks (or has it been months? I have to check) hiatus from writing reviews here on YELP! I decided to come back with a review of Roosters. Kentucky have KENTUCKY Fried Chicken and OREGON have Roosters -- well not really, otherwise this would have been a chain of restaurant across the US right? :P Roosters have a good concept as a restaurant. It has a very "homy" kind of feel to the place that to me was trying a little too hard. I know making a "homy" vibe to a place takes a lot of work to make it seem effortless but c'mon, a RED BARN in the middle of the foyer where you greet your guest is just way too much! (READ: over the top!) At first I find it "cute" -- and I don't do cute! -- but then the more I think about it cute slowly inched its way to downright tacky. Let's get to the food though. The "Asian" salad is STOCK FULL of crispy noodles. Uhmmmm... isn't this a little too stereotypical? I mean c'mon, can't you do Asian salad WITHOUT the dried noodles and STILL call it Asian salad? Being Asian, I ALMOST took offense to this. The food -- chicken centered, since this establishment, IS after all, named after the male of the species -- was nothing special to write home about. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. They're not bad, they're simply not "I gotta have it." The beverages on the other hand, are what made this review 4 stars. Let's start with their STRAWBERRY LEMONADE with real Klicker strawberries (whatever Klicker strawberries are). It is as unique as Arnold Palmer's Iced Tea Lemonade when it first came out! Mine and my aunt's were both the PERFECT marriage of lemon sourness and candied strawberry -- Klicker strawberry -- sweetness! Like Folgers, this IS good to the last drop. The shake that my uncle ordered almost rivaled that of DQ in its thickness. Though I did not taste it, he said it is good.
