old Mexican restaurant. Everything looked old. walls chipped, menues not so clean. BUT the food was delicious. I had the stuffed avacados. Never heard of them but oh were they good. Drinks were in huge gasses. Prices were way too high for the meals. My stuffed avacados were $17.00. The service was good. Very friendly staff. But it was one of the only restaurants in a dead town. We were glad there was something.

Stuffed avocados, one with cheese, the other with chicken.

I've stayed at a nearby RV park a couple of times and have heard about this place so decided to give it a try. They do not disappoint!! Service and food were excellent, not to mention the margaritas!! They don't make your mouth pucker from too much lime mix!! I had the stuffed avocados and it was a first experience. Wow!! So good!! Give 'em a try, you won't be disappointed.

Pic of the Route 66, Small town Mexican Cantina. Not fancy, the square register is about the only thing modern. Very Texas, very Mexican!

Food, Service, and just friendly people serving good food. The Momma Jo's Bakery, couple of other good restaurants around the Square, fun museums, and just a very Route66 vibe.

Not a hard location to find. We came to Vega for dps and decided to grab food. We got beef white queso enchiladas, and asada street tacos. So good! I will be back:)

Highly recommend Roosters. The food is amazing and staff are really friendly. If you are in Amarillo, it's worth the 20-30 minute drive to Vega, and if you are passing through town, while traveling east or west in I-40, stop off in Vega, Roosters is worth the stop!

Looking for a pet friendly stop on our trip from Texas to New Mexico. Friendly service and good food. Had a picnics table outside that worked out well!

    Fajitas Trios for two!

We traveled here from Ft. worth and this is by far the best Fajita's we have had for a very long time! Margaritas are outstanding! Chips and salsa is outstanding and plentiful too! We could not finish this mountain of beef, chicken and shrimp fajitas. We will devour the leftovers for the next 2 days on our way up to Yellowstone! Service was outstanding as Claudia took excellent care of us! Many thanks to her and Anna! Like family!

This place is a MUST! While driving towards East coast we found this Mexican restaurant basically located off the beaten path. It was THE best stop by far! Everything about it was unique. The restaurant used to be a gas station many years ago and they still have original floor with stains from where oil was changed. The owners, two brothers Mike and Ron opened it 8 yeas ago and serve only authentic, home style food. We asked to take some portraits of the owner and he chatted with us a little. They were so hospitable and even gifted us a souvenir, a clay made pot with the Route 66 engravings. SERVICE: Kimberly was our server and was super nice. She helped us with food selection and choice that fitted our taste and was very friendly. We also chatted with the owner for a while and he told us a little about the history of this place, which made the whole experience even more unique and unforgettable! FOOD: chips and salsa they brought was so good! Especially since i am not the biggest fan of mexican food, everything we ordered i ate with huge appetite. Portions are good size, not oversized but just enough to be full. The three of us ordered taco salad and fajitas (for one person) and didnt even finish it was so much food! I would absolutely LOVE to go back one day!!

We were brought individual flights of salsa to go with the chips. My michelada hit the spot. Was it the best? No. But it scratched the itch. I couldn't decide on what to eat. Until I saw green chili stew and asado. I moved away from Midland in 2015. You don't really find asado away from West Texas. The music wasn't too loud and the lighting wasn't too bright or too dim. Overall, we enjoyed our meals. I'll likely stop back in the next time I'm in town.

The staff was friendly but did not provide the best service throughout our meal. We shared the combo beef and chicken fajitas for one. The chicken was cooked perfectly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The beef was a little overdone, but the fresh, homemade corn and flour tortillas were absolutely fantastic and made the meal even better. We also ordered the Tacos de Birria (goat) with consommé, and they were delicious! The meat was incredibly flavorful, and they came with a small cup of sauce that added even more flavor just be prepared because it packs some serious heat! The chips and queso were just okay, but overall we really enjoyed it being a convenient stop on our road trip home. Not sure if we will stop again when in town.

Visiting my girlfriend and her family in Amarillo led me to trying some of their favorite places in…read morethe city. My girlfriend's mom was especially excited to take me to El Tejaven while I was visiting. This dinner was a celebration of my girlfriend's sister playing in the top All-Region orchestra. It has nothing to do with the food itself, but I want to mention it because she did a great job performing and I think it deserves to be remembered here. It is the reason we went in the first place. It was a busy night at El Tejaven before we arrived. A group of 32 was just wrapping up dinner. Thirty two people. At that point, just cater, dawg. It took about 20 minutes after arrival to get seated, but it likely would have been much quicker if it were not for a group that size. Once we were seated, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was spicier than I was prepared for, but it was good. The chips were excellent as well. Most people at the table ordered margaritas on the rocks, while I got a dressed Dos Equis on draft. From what I tasted, the margaritas were solid. For appetizers, we ordered the small queso and the small ceviche. The queso was standard but good. The ceviche, on the other hand, was exceptional. I could have eaten a large bowl by myself. I was pretty hungry, so I ordered the Orden de Tacos, which comes with four tacos on corn tortillas. I got all of them with al pastor. I also added a side of rice and beans, which normally comes with the three taco order but can be added on for the four tacos. The tacos were very good and exactly what you want from street style al pastor, especially with the cilantro and onions. It comes out to roughly four dollars per taco if you do the math. The rice and beans were both great and I ate all of it easily. The plate also came with a side of guacamole that had a nice kick, which I enjoyed. Living in Austin with family in San Antonio, it is easy to find good and authentic Mexican food. That does not always seem to be the case in Amarillo, so it is nice to know there is at least one spot in the city that feels authentic and not overly gringoified. My girlfriend's family knows ball.
