There were two other tables with two people each that left shortly after my table of three arrived. Ordered our drinks and it took 57 minutes to get them. The bartender actually noticed that we had been sitting there without anything and he brought them over even though he was not our server. Our server did not understand English, and we kept having to use our phones to translate so we could communicate with her. We asked for appetizers that we never got, yet were on the bill. Our food came out 98 minutes after arriving, and again the bartender was the one that was serving us. The female server sat at an empty table on her telephone the entire time. When I asked for the bill, she didn't understand me and had to get a coworker to actually print out our bill. I tipped-out the bartender because he's the one that actually provided us our service. When I checked my credit card statement the next day she had given herself a $10 tip even though I had lined through it on the receipt. I immediately called the Amarillo Police Department to file police a eport for theft, and I did a fraud against my credit card with my bank. I explained to the Amarillo Police Department what happened, and sent them copies of my receipt and the receipt that I had left for her. The APD attempted to contact Braceros management. Every time the detective called he was told that the manager was not in the office and that they did not know when he would be in the office. At my insistence, the detective went to Braceros and asked for the manager and watched the manager walk away and had his employees say that he was not available. Management was absolutely refusing to speak to the police. When APD asked the employee about my waitress, because her name was on my receipt, the Braceros employee said oh I don't know who that is. So the detectives couldn't even talk to the waitress. They sent the detectives two more times attempting to talk to management and they refused to talk to them. Another 1000% sure management is in on this scam. I filed a complaint with the local Chamber of Commerce and come to find out, Braceros is known for this and there are banks in the Amarillo area that will not honor any charges on their credit or debit cards at Braceros restaurants. We live in area and finally got to the many antique and specialty shops on route 66 in Amarillo. We had heard of this Mexican restaurant from friends who thought it was excellent. So we ended our day with an amazing meal. We were seated quickly, and attended to immediately with salsa and chips. We tried their Housemade margaritas and we were not disappointed. Our service continued to be spot on both in timing and friendly personality. As the restaurant filled up, it did not seem crowded as there was ample room for everyone. Had dinner here tonight. Grok actually told us this was the best food in Amarillo (Mexican). I have to wholeheartedly agree! Joel took wonderful care of us. Chips and salsa came out first and both were very fresh with just the right amount of spiciness in the salsa!! My man had the veggie fajitas and he couldn't rave enough. It comes out in two plates, the grilled veggies on 1 and the beans, rice and garnish comes out on another! I had the beef fajitas chimichanga smothered in queso, with rice and beans. Everything was perfectly cooked, hot from the stove and delicious. The restaurant itself is clean and very festive in Mexican colors and decor. Horrible experience Unhealthy, extraordinarily greasy "food" Low grade ingredients Dirty Upon walking in today, at 4:30 pm, the place was barely 1/4 occupied. I'm greeted by this early 20 year old male wearing shorts and a hoodie, as though he just left the gym. No restaurant attire, no name tag, and rude, oh so rude. I'm supposed to know that he works for the restaurant. He's conveying this smug "you don't belong here" attitude, one of rejection. I'm a party of 1. Imagine that, no 15 relatives or noisy babies. He walks me all of the way through the empty dining room, past 20 tables and into this horribly tacky bar and to a dirty, rickety high-top bar table. The air is musty and smells. Bad lighting and of course, booze bottles everywhere. Boy it's dirty and hasn't been remodeled since the Alamo. I just want to bring in a cleaning crew and dismantle the whole room. Here's the fun part. To get there, we literally pass under a sign at the doorway of the bar that says "Jaime's Cantina." I politely tell him that I don't want to sit in the bar. And he has the audacity to tell me "oh, that's not in the bar." Unless he's that poorly educated, and doesn't know Spanish. A Mexican cantina is a bar. Out of disgust, he insults me quietly to another early 20's pseudo Caucasian male with a crazy haircut from the circus. I'm supposed to feel real good now. As an aside, They've positioned these rubber floor mats right in the entryway serving as a trip hazard for the public. Bizarre. Finally, I'm seated and the service is back to normal. Waitress is nice. The table has a little bit of food on it from the last party. Oh well. It's a Mexican restaurant in the old part of the city. So we can't say anything. It's just coooool. But oh my, the grease! From the enchilada to the chile relleno to the beans, everything is immersed in grease. So it's unhealthy and any other style of food, we'd make a scene about this level of rampant, grease, salt and cheap, unhealthy ingredients. But this one cuisine? It always gets a pass for some reason. The enchilada was tasty but basic. The tortilla chips? Poor tasting. The salsa, fresh but bland. The chile relleno? So greasy that even trying to eat this proves an exercise tantamount to overcoming your own self preservation instincts. I asked the server if they could bring Tabasco. It was as though she'd never heard of it. They literally lack hot sauce. After paying and leaving this place, I couldn't help but note another 20 something military aged male carrying a box measuring 10"x6"x6" or so. What is it? "Artificial butter flavored oil." Needless to say, this is, at best, margarine. I've felt sick all evening following my visit to this truly greasy meal. My advice: if you get the hankering for Mexican food? Go to Whole Foods and buy an Amy's frozen cheese enchilada. It's tastier, fresher, far more healthy, cheaper and best of all, you don't get snubbed or lied to by a kid or forced to sit in a non-bar bar. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at our delicious Bracero's is. The service could be a bit more prompt, but the food is absolutely delicious. Also best Ranch Water's I have ever had. I ordered the Enchiladas Al Carbon - One chicken and one beef with Mole sauce. Sometimes mole is hit or miss, but this one had all the right flavors. Right along historic Route 66 lies this inconspicuous restaurant amongst the various antique and specialty shops. Inside, the atmosphere moves your eyes from displays and framed art with what sounds like current Latino hits which has the servers swaying in the service stations. The tortilla chips are thick and crisp and they're brought to the table with a small carafe of salsa. Entrees were neither too spicy nor North country bland. Ground beef enchilada were very tasty and the cheese enchilada, had no onions, both enchanced with the sour cream queso sauce. Beef tamale seemed to be a ground beef but still quite good, and the chicken tamale was smothered in a sauce along with cheese. Fried rice bordered on cooked too long/too moist but tasted good, especially with a dollop of their salsa. Added bonus. Makes me very ill. They have good seasoned steak. So tender, juicy. Cooked to perfection, lots of onions, very few bell peppers, we use cheese sauce, or red sauce. Scoop of good avocados, sour cream lettuce, cheese, beans and rice are excellent. They actually season the beans and rice. Chips are thin, and are warm sometimes. Punch of spice's in hot sauce. I have mixed feelings about Bracero's. The food was decent, the staff was slow, and vibe from the place was pretty good. Lots of old and cool art on the walls. Nothing is specifically labeled gluten free or dairy free but you can ask about it and mix up some of the menu items to meet your needs. I had a carne asada special. It was pretty dang good, so we're the rice and beans. The grilled onions the steak was on were cooked to death. The lettuce and tomatoes that came on the side were wilted and sad. Almost everyone in our party got huge entrees that were around 15 bucks. So it's definitely a deal. If you get margaritas, don't get the house, I'm not sure there is actually tequila in the tequila that goes in the margarita. The top shelf is what you have to get. We tried both. read more

We went on 11.20.25 with a group of 7. We got there at 6:00 pm and they were not busy. We ordered drinks and shortly ordered dinner. Everything started very nicely. Well it didn't last. The food started being served and 6 of our group got their order while the 7th person waited and finally received dinner when everyone else was almost finished. The food was not up to par! One had cheese enchiladas and the plate was hot but nothing else was, even the cheese was not melted. Another in our group ordered fish tacos and all that was on it was small fried fish in a cold hard corn tortilla. I know tacos including fish have toppings as well! The one who waited to be served received the meal and it was cold! Really how can a deep fried chimichanga be cold? I don't know but they did it successfully‍. I personally watched as the staff was playing around hitting each other with towels and slapping other employees butts while customers paid the price! This is the 2nd time the food has been more like Taco Bell than what it used to be. Jaime is losing business because of the immature attitude and behaviors of his employees. This used to be the place to get the best Mexican food in Amarillo but not anymore! I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone!! JAIME PLEASE GET IT BACK IN ORDER!! It was as if they had never waited tables before. Firstly, they couldn't even manage to bring our food to the correct table. We had to repeatedly ask them where our dishes were, causing unnecessary confusion and inconvenience. It's basic restaurant etiquette to ensure that the correct meals are delivered to the right customers. But the worst part was the incident at the end of our meal. As we were leaving, a waiter had the audacity to confront me at the door, accusing me of attempting to dine and dash. Little did he know that my friends had already taken care of the bill as part of my birthday celebration. The waiter's lack of communication with his colleagues resulted in an embarrassing and uncomfortable situation. I was appalled by the unprofessionalism and lack of basic customer service skills displayed by the staff. Additionally, the waiter's confrontational attitude was completely uncalled for. Instead of calmly verifying the situation with his colleagues, he immediately assumed the worst of me. I was left feeling disrespected and angered by the unwarranted accusation. The fact that I managed to control my temper and refrain from retaliating physically should be commended, but it's a shame that the situation even escalated to such a point. While the food itself was decent, it's hard to enjoy a meal when the service is a disaster. My experience at El Braceros on 6th St was marred by the staff's lack of competence, poor communication, and the waiter's confrontational behavior. We decided to check out this place while visiting Amarillo. We went in and asked to be seated outside. We were seated right away, and had excellent and friendly service throughout our dinner. Food was to die for and it didn't take long to be served. The grilled lamb "Vera Cruz plate" was absolutely delicious. We also ordered a chimichanga and tacos Al carbon. We left an appropriate tip based on the fact that Arely NEVER checked on us, refilled our drinks, or even brought our food. She sat at a dining room table on her phone or chatting up her coworkers. My writing is very legible so I know it was not a mistake reading what the tip was. I've called the manager 3 times & he refuses to speak to me which is why I believe he's in on the SCAM.
