Not sure how I've never been to Roots to Wings before but definitely my loss. So nice to be able to buy items locally made. If you aren't done with your holiday decorating or just want some fun ideas get here. There are multiple vendors to choose from and every corner is full of affordable items. Who knew we needed another tree but hey why not. I 'looking forward to what they bring in after the holidays. Worth the trip to Brownsburg.

I'll have to add more photos another time, but I've absolutely fallen in love with Roots to Wings. Their fall and holiday decor has been so cute, and the owner, Missy, remembered me and was very personable and kind. Will definitely be going there often!

Large Red Building on Raceway Road north of Crawfordsville Road. Very clean and great selection.

After brunch one Sunday in downtown Zionsville, I went shopping in the downtown Zionsville historic…read moredistrict and came across Fivethirty Home. This quaint little shop was very nice and cute, and had some nice local merchandise and unique nicnacks. I walked through the shop and could tell it had a nice selection of merchandise and the value of the price appeared to be very good. I went into a separate room that had 50% off merchandise, and found a few things that caught my eye which I ended up purchasing. They were kitchen coasters and they were very decorative and attractive looking. The service at the shop was Ok. The woman behind the cashier table was very nice and said hello when I first walked into the shop. When I checked out, she was very gracious and wrapped my kitchen coasters very carefully so that they would not break. Fivethirty Home is a neat shop with great merchandise, so if you are in downtown Zionsville, you should check it out. It is very nice and worth browsing around.

I was worried that the…read morelittle shop had left Zionsville, but discovered they moved down the street to Bender Square in a much larger location. The new location has lots of nooks and crannies for setting up interesting displays and they do. We stopped by while out doing some Christmas shopping and found the store packed with shoppers. Good to see people supporting these small independent shops. They carry about 1/3 vintage items like globes and suitcases and nicely painted furniture pieces, about 1/3 local artisan decor mostly Indiana themed (which I love) and then about 1/3 reproduction vintage filler such as wrapping paper and trendy letter art. In addition she carries a line of high quality chalk paint and supplies. They teach classes on how to use the chalk paint (which I've been meaning to take). The pieces that she finishes are gorgeous - mostly little side tables. Today they carried a lot of Christas themed items. The owner is very friendly and happy to provide advice on painting. She is indeed gifted. The prices on the chalk paints are a little high so I haven't taken the plunge yet until I know I have time to complete a project. I see many customers coming to buy the paint and supplies so they must be happy. There is street parking available and a free lot across the street but it can be a bear to find a spot on a Saturday. They are not opened on Sunday. I'll be back and perhaps soon I'll take one of her classes.

Maybe it was just having left Gilley's that affected my perception of this place. Or maybe it's…read morethe lack of accessibility that this place has that keeps it from getting a higher rating. They have some nice stuff here, including a lot more furniture than I expected. They have more room upstairs for browsing too. But the barn seems small compared to the antique mall next door, so unless there is something here that screams "Buy me!", it's kind of hard to rate it higher. Be aware that this is an old barn and has a raised center aisle to walk on. That means low head clearance for air ducts, so watch out. Also, if you are rubber-necking and not looking down, the step down into the rooms/booths on the first floor is large (maybe a 10" drop!) and it would be easy to stumble if you aren't paying attention. Fortunately, the owner did mark the steps in yellow and write "Step" on the ground, but who looks down when you are surrounded by stuff at eye level? I guess I should have. On the positive side, there were some beautiful furniture pieces and a really cool store counter that had shelves that extend all the way through the counter, having a display window on the outside of the piece. This allowed you to see what was in the drawer as a purchaser. Not sure what you would do with this at home, but it was an ingenious piece of Americana. Review #1959

Once you find it, there is street parking on Home Ave and a small lot on the property, both options free. You enter the shop on the northeast end of the building. There is a showroom of items that give you an instant feel of nicely arranged decor and furniture with the checkout counter in the back of this room. The rest of the business is arranged in an oval pattern of rooms that let you easily flow through the shop and finish back at the checkout. Along the way, I found a couple brands of candles gathered into displays, and lots of furniture; some painted, some still with original finish. I even found a hallway filled with dog treats! But mainly, there are lots of antique items that are in different condition dispersed among home decor accessories and furniture. If anything, the orderliness and open spacing feel almost empty compared to the majority of antique shops I have visited that are packed to overflowing. It made for a nice change of pace when antiquing. Because of the nice displays, it can be inspirational to shoppers for possible ways to display the items in their own homes. Pleasant staff, but not hagglers as I heard an exchange between them and someone bargain hunting. Review #3503
