I bring bowls to my mom for our catch-up dates, and it's become such a special tradition. The shop itself has a farmhouse-style interior that's always clean and inviting. There's plenty of parking, and the location is perfect. It is right near the beach and the perfect stop for breakfast, lunch, or a post-beach snack. Be sure to try their hot coffee too. While I don't get their smoothies as often, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I also love how they get creative with fun holiday-themed bowls, like the special Valentine's Day, Christmas, or even Cinco de Mayo themed bowls. Cool, no problem... except there's literally no "order now" button or online ordering section anywhere on their website. The person on the phone insisted she could see the button on her end. Walked in less than 5 minutes later (place was practically empty except one other customer) and asked her to show me on her phone. Suddenly she couldn't find it either and got noticeably flustered. Felt like a straight-up lie to avoid taking phone orders. Ordered an açaí bowl at the counter. Ingredients looked fresh and it was made to order, but it still took a solid 10 minutes for something that should've been fast in an empty shop. The bowl itself was good -- nice fruit, decent portion -- but the peanut butter drizzle was that super-sweet, processed squeeze-bottle stuff that tastes like candy more than actual peanut butter. Kind of defeats the "natural" vibe. Paid almost $14 after tax... felt steep for what it was. The space is small and honestly feels cluttered -- random shelves, mismatched furniture, layout is a little chaotic. Not the chill, Instagram-worthy health cafe vibe you might expect. Bottom line: the food is decent if you're already nearby and not in a rush, but the customer service mishap and pricing left a bad taste. I already know that all the ingredients here are pretty added-sugar-free, that many of the smoothies use coconut water, that the green juices are very green. This is a woman-owned business, and a reason for the owners opening came from their passion for healthy ingredients after having a health issue. There Instagram is constantly thanking their employees. I love love love the green smoothies/juices. There are more than one without bananas, which I enjoy. I had one recently that I loved loved loved so much. This location is in a terribly run down plaza and in the corner of the plaza not even near the anchor stores, so you really may not think much of this spot. However, this also means plenty of parking, a hidden gem, and in a bit of a healthy food desert on Military. Smoothie Whirl'd is impeccably clean inside and the smoothie workspace is open to everyone in the store. It has quite a following, with lines forming everytime I've stopped by, and I would definitely describe folks as locals, notably working folks, students (as in, people in nurse uniforms, construction hats, and teenagers in high school garb). Despite this, the employee prepared the smoothie with banana while we all watched. When we asked again to confirm there was no banana, she said there wasn't even though she had just added it. We had to throw the smoothie away without even being able to drink it. As we were leaving, she then mentioned that bananas are regularly used in the blender, meaning there could be cross-contamination. This should have been communicated before paying and preparing the drink, especially given a stated allergy. This situation could have been very dangerous. There was a clear lack of attention and awareness regarding food allergies. Staff should be properly trained to handle allergy-related requests. I would rather go out of my way to another location than return here.
