This is a highly rated and much sought after reservation. We booked a Christmas dinner spot (8:00 PM) a few weeks before our trip. It is on the very fashionable street in the very fashionable area. Many wealthy diners and lots of "eye candy". Contemporary and extremely lively. It was bustling. And VERY loud disco music (so if you don't like noise - maybe forgo this). Although it was wild with people, they had a ton of staff (downside was that your "real" waiter was hard to find). Service was overall pretty fast and good but confusing. Think seafood - although they carry Waygu beef, etc. Think massive presentations of seafood to share. We had Mescal cocktails - all winners. We split the Hamachi appetizer - plenty for 3 and pretty good. Entrees were a recommended fish we had never heard of (pseudo John Dory) that was bland and a loser, their highly touted lobster tacos - unfortunately tough and could not hold a candle to NE US lobsters, and a salmon streak. The latter was ordered medium. The place is very dark and my wife unfortunately took one bite of essentially raw salmon. We sent it back and got the proper cook about 15 minutes later. Unfortunately my wife within 1 hour of dining was in the bathroom for the rest of the night and part of the next AM. Definitely food poisoning and all points to the raw salmon as the cause. Damages for 3 with tip was $140. We cannot prove (correlation vs. cause) the food poisoning occurred here although a lot points to the uncooked salmon. So I am not going to trash it on ratings. Even if this illness did not happen - it was not a memorable occasion and the music was blaring. If you want to be "seen" and/or seek a Rodeo Drive kind of experience - come here. Spent 4 days in Mexico City ate out each meal mostly at smaller local places which seemed to have the best value and decent food rather than the high end restaraunts that charge 10 times as much. We did go to two upscale restaurants this being one of them. The other one called Animal Masaryk was way better. I would not return to Rosa Negra unless just getting cocktails I didnt think the value was there. It is a very loud and lively place that serves a young crowd for late dinners. We were sandwiched between tables in a main walkway so not that comfortable. There was always 3-4 waiters right next to our table, I counted 12 of them at one point right next to us so kind of annoying. The service overall was very good as there was about 1 employee to every 3 patrons I would guess. The food was pricey and pretty average. We had a tuna sashimi app that was disappointing it was actually partly cooked in onions, not what I expected. The sides were forgettable and the ribeye was thin and too fatty to eat more than half of it and they couldn't get the temperature right, mine was very rare asked for medium rare ate it anyway. My brother asked for medium first it came out well done, next one came back very rare he decided to eat it anyway. read more

This restaurant is amazing. Front the moment you walk in their customer service and attention to detail is top dollar. I got here a little early for our reservation and the hostess was able to accommodate the fact I had a couple extra people with us. They were all booked up for the night so I greatly appreciated it. We tried different things from the menu like their Lomo steak and a couple of their salads. The cocktail I ordered which was the "house" one called pisco rosa negra was probably one of the best cocktails over ever had. I don't recall what the others had, but my drink was the spicy cucumber and it was unbelievably refreshing and had a nice amount of zing. The waiters brought out a small clip on lamp for the menus, despite it not being very dark. I found that to be illuminating! No, really. A bright idea. RosaNegra really understands the full dining experience with great atmosphere, doting waitstaff, great music-serenaded by a live drummer, and above all excellent gastronomy! There is no doubt that the owners put thought into crafting this experience, which sets it apart from many other restaurants I've dined at. The menu is traditional yet creative. You can go as food forward as you want or stick to more traditional dishes. RosaNegra is known for their steaks and seafood. I had the crab bisque and the risotto with beef filet. The servers are polite and well mannered. The atmosphere of this place tells you it's mainly for people to post on social media that they went... The appetizers are quite good. We ordered the large ribeye to share between two people. It took a while to cook but we assumed it was just because they were busy. We ordered medium rare. They brought the steak out on a hot plate and made a big deal, very annoying. The steak itself was horribly dry and over cooked. We expressed our disappointment and they tried to convince us that part of the steak is still good medium rare. It was not. We insisted and they brought us another- after about 45 mins. It seems they either do not understand what medium rare is or they were bitter about the first steak because what we got was basically a raw meat with a burnt outside- completely tasteless too. We took a few bites and just ordered our check, payed and got out because we did not want to deal with going through the pain of getting another steak. A day later we've got food poisoning. To all travelers exploring Mexico City: avoid this pretentious place at all costs. Two stars for the genuinely pleasant servers. read more

Honestly I don't know where to start with this review. Except to say my friend and I experienced the absolute best dinner/night out one could ask for! This is mainly due to their AMAZING staff! RAUL, JESUS, and FERNANDO paid so much attention to detail but in a Non stuffy way if that makes sense. I don't want to forget to mention that the food is exquisite. Combine the two and you are left with an amazing experience. We couldn't stop talking about how awesome that experience was even days later as we dined in other areas in Polanco and weren't as impressed. Had a live DJ mixing upbeat music, appetizers were briefly interrupted by a remix of Sweet Caroline - wait staff descended and brought sparklers to every diner. Crowd was very well dressed and high end, appropriate for the neighborhood. The food matched the presentation. We started with tuna tostada - incredible. Empanadas were Ok. What a shame that the Maitre'D thinks it's ok to tell a client that having a reservation doesn't guarantee you a table at the time you reserve. One because it's Mexico and two because they are busy. A 50 minutes delay from our reservation and still no sign of when we will be seated. They are very pushy to get you the most expensive items showing trays with huge lobsters and shrimps, and pointing out to the most expensive items in the menu. Street corn on the cob had zero flavor and was over cooked that the corn was extremely hard. My lobster tacos were average, nothing really special about them. Blueberry cheesecake is a big portion so def worth splitting but it was bland. The only addition of flavor the cheesecake had were the tart berries and the crust. Duck tacos were juicy and the drinks were great and that was about the only saving grace on food. The major con was seating location. they chose to sit us next to a door that people were constantly coming in in and out of and at one point even moving furniture through that area. The cherry on top was my rude waiter with an attitude that decided it would be a great idea to hold that door open with a small table and stack dirty dishes on it!!
