Made reservations with OpenTable, called the restaurant to inform them that my flight was delayed and couldn't make the scheduled time. They said "no problem the reservation has been changed". When I arrived they said there was no mention of a time change and that OpenTable marked me as a 'no-show'. So had to get put on the list and waited close to 2 hours to get in. The whole place was a disarray, angry customers yelling in Spanish, people with legit on time reservations were being seated behind the walk-in's that were on the list. The worst experience ever we came here for our anniversary I ordered the Alaskan King crab legs which is why I wanted to have the restaurant booking in the first place... I specifically requested to leave any sauce on the side from the crab legs they came out drenched in sauce I had 1/2 of a crab leg and they accused us of eating half of the meal and they refused to remake it!! This restaurant was really unique, and we had a wonderful time seated with a large group in their dining room. We were considering sitting outside but it was a little chilly, so the dining room was our next best choice. It has closely spaced tables so if you're uncomfortable with that, perhaps choose another location, but it didn't bother us. The drinks are fantastic and we really enjoyed the cocktail selection seeing that it was so unique. The other part of this meal that was very intriguing was the kind of dishes that were available for family style sharing, including things like bone marrow, ceviche, exotic options like cactus, and octopus. I appreciated that this location also is observing COVID-19 precautions. The temperature check at the door, and the hand sanitizer were a big plus. My husband and I made a reservation here for our trip to CDMX as our culminating dinner, for our first "post-Covid lockdown" trip. I ordered the big burger and it was also really great. You might be asking yourself why I would go all the way to Mexico for a burger, but I have allergies so I have to keep it simple sometimes. (Note: Make sure you tell them an accurate temperature. I ordered one temp thinkin they would overcook it, thereby getting me to the right temperature I actually wanted. but it was accurate.) The burger was succulent and extravagant with a mini burger perched atop the main burger. It was served with home potatoes with a spiced coating. My hubbs ordered the seared salmon and he ordered it with the mashed potatoes. The star of the night was not the playful burger I had, the drinks or the ambience - no...it was the mashed potatoes I just mentioned. They were creamy and had rich flavor without being overly salty. I made a reservation for Dec 26 on Oct 6, that's over 2 1/2 months in advance. On Dec 26 we arrived at the restaurant a few minutes before our reservation. There were 2 hostesses at the front entrance. I told them my name and that we had a reservation for 7pm. The hostesses consulted each other and one of them told me that the only table available was in the smoking section. When I made the reservation there was no where to specify smoking or non-smoking. I told them that I made the reservation several months ago, a table in the smoking section is unacceptable and to find us another table. They, again, consulted each other and one of them responded with "that's the only table available". They offered us a table at their sister restaurant next door which was completely empty. They tried to make it seem like it was same restaurant and we had draw it out of them that it was different. They were clearly trying to fool us. I told them I did not make a reservation at that restaurant. My husband asked to speak to the manager. A few minutes later a manager came out and he and my husband discussed the situation. The manager said he would find a table for us in a few minutes. About 5 minutes later he came back and took us to a table. It was clear that this table was squeezed in between 2 other tables and the area was very crowded. It was right across the galley where the waiters walked to and from the kitchen with lots of commotion. We immediately left the table and went back to the entrance. The manager came back out and my husband told him that the table was unacceptable. My husband pointed to a plaque on the wall that said "Grupo RosaNegra, ultra high end fine dining" which means excellent service, which is not what we were receiving. The manager said to give him a few more minutes and he would again find a better table for us. At that point we were so disappointed in how we were treated. None of the staff or the manager apologized to us at any time during this ordeal. The manager seemed more concerned about how he looked in front of his staff than our experience. The hostesses kept whispering to each other and looking at us. We were very uncomfortable and knew that the staff couldn't make up for their horrible service and we left the restaurant. The manager eventually texted me and said the he came out to look for us and we were gone. He said he didn't understand why we were so upset from the beginning. He had the nerve to blame us for being upset when he and his staff never apologized. What is the point of making a reservation if the restaurant is not capable of giving you a proper table and providing respectful service? At the prices they were charging we expected much more. Our whole experience at Rosa Negra felt very classist and possibly even racist. read more

Checked out Rosa Negra a few months back when I traveled to Mexico City with my boyfriend and some friends. It was recommended that we try this restaurant because of how upbeat the place is. You surely can't miss this restaurant because of how loud they play the music and all of the lit sparklers they hand out to guests after 8pm. There is also a drum show performed hourly. The restaurant itself is known for its lavish and upscale cuisine such as Wagyu & Tomahawk steak, but still included some popular Mexican dishes. On that note, I remember the experience I had here, more than the food. If I ever come back I'll be sure to try their seafood dishes versus the steak. read more

I ordered the Mediterrano gin cocktail which was 400 paso however was worth probably half or less given it was way too sweet! I couldn't finish. This place is an experience. We were a rather large group of 14 and ended up staying well over three hours. This is a very fun place and you really need to be a group of four or more, this place is in no way intimate and if it's just the two of you don't expect a romantic dinner for two. The music is load and intriguing we heard, reggae, rock, latin vibes, 80's, 90's, bollywood music and they just made it work. There are guys walking around banging on light up drums roaming from table to table. They seem to celebrate everything with giant sparklers that they give to patrons to wave around while sining happy birthday or if some wild song comes on or just no reason than just shout and and soot off some pyrotechnics. The drinks are also over the top and they mage even a gin and tonic look flashy as they bring it to you. By the way thge drinks are really good and really strong. We had an over abundance of food. A lot of seafood likle lobster, octopus, shrimp, clams. We had a good amount of vegetarian and a giant tomahawk steak. All of us shared and most all the food was very good, only a few items were just so so. The food was very good, not spectacular but I think the theatrics, music, fireworks all heugthened the senses and made the food taste better. Well about a month ago a group of friends decided to go to celebrate our friends Birthday here. We were a party of 12 and made reservations for 7:30pm... we arrived on time and told it wouldn't be long. There was an empty table for 12 right in front and we figured that would be our table. After about half hour, we asked what was going on and we were told our table was not ready and that the empty table was reserved for someone else. About an hour and a half later we were seated at a table that was designed for 8 and they tried to squeeze us in. We are all men and of course there was no way we were all going to squeeze in there. The other table was still empty! We were frustrated and called the manager. Finally they agreed to let us sit at the table for 12. Yes! We made a commotion about it which may have not been the smartest thing to do before sitting down to eat in a foreign country. About 8 of us got sick shortly after leaving the restaurant. This place straight up forgot about us and left us sitting and waiting for 45 minutes but I'm still giving it five stars because it was just that good and the maitre'd here was smoking hot and killing it all night. Then they walk around with this huge seafood presentation on ice to show off their specials for the night. Rosa Negra is an upscale seafood clubstaurant in Polanco. Think Tao or Buddakan with more of an Asian influence. We came at 8 pm around the holidays (booking a few weeks out) and the place was absolutely packed. Cool, somewhat industrial restaurant design. There was a DJ and music was too loud to talk. Very dim lighting. I'm usually not a grandma about lights and music but it was ridiculous. Seating is too tight-- service was right on top of us walking by and a guy at the neighboring table stepped on me twice getting out. Food was very expensive and leans on luxury ingredients, e.g. imported fish, high quality beef, lobster. We had a crudo and lobster tacos which were both pretty good. Cocktails fine, very sugary. Bread and tacos were both great. Mains were a mess. I had a whole cooked fish which came in an inedibly salty Asian-inspired sauce. Didn't try to finish this. My mom had undercooked New Zealand salmon, sent it back, and waited over 15 minutes for a replacement. Think it ended up being comped. Which was great as she had something that looked awfully like food poisoning that night. Service speaks enough English to be tourist-friendly and was professional. Overall it was just a hectic environment, though, and hard to always get a hold of them. Management did come over at the end and handled complaints on the undercooked fish well.
