Rosa's Plane Food is a superb restaurant. Everything we've ever ordered from there is absolutely delicious, but the carnitas, guacamole and ceviche are especially noteworthy. Huge RAVE to Rosa's Plane Food! Customer service was awesome. After foo was served Rosa, the owner, came out to our table to say hi was very nice and sweet to us. She offered some avocado for my meal and brought it out herself, genuinely happy to serve. The food and drinks were generously portioned. I had the Ceviche accompanied by an agua de Tamarindo and my boyfriend had the chipotle shrimp quesadillas with rice and beans with a lemonade. I found myself in Rosa's Plane Food during a recent trip to Calexico. My 1st choice was closed permanently, so yelp helped me out finding this place. I came in here at about seven on a Tuesday nite. There was only one table occupied when I got there, they were not very busy. All the tables were dirt, and every table had food and debris under them. I was very surprised to see an almost empty restaurant that was needing cleaning so badly. So I sat down, I had a long sleeved work shirt on and I swiped it across the table to clean a section. Why did I stay? Well, that is a real good question. I guess I stayed because D Poly was closed and I did not feel like driving to El Centro. Plus, a lot of yelpers said it was good. I ordered the Jamica, chips and salsa, and a carnitas plate, The Jamica and salsa were very good, as was the avocado on the plate. The rest of the food was just meh. TBH, I really should have walked out and chose another spot due to 1st impression. Nothing was wrong with the food, it was served after looking around at the dirty place for 15 minutes. My husband Was flying us in his little plane down to Mexico for vacation. We had to stop for fuel and lunch - the closest place to the Imperial Airport is a Mexican place (Eating Mexican food in the US on the way to a vacation in Mexico, ah well such is life!). The salsa here is perfection - pretty hot - but not too hot and a little smoky with not too much onion. I loved it. My hubby had the chili relleno and liked it quite a lot - I had the (boneless) marinated chicken thighs - There were 2 of them - they were HUGE and very well seasoned - but had a lot of misc. gristle and bones. If I didn't have to get back into a teeny little plane I would have liked to have tried the rib eye. read more

It's my first time to visit Calexico for the last 2 months I've been in the USA. After a really good day in the city, I decided to try the authentic taste of Mexican food. I saw this restaurant next to the street and I stopped to try what they could offer me. I ordered Quesidila and Rib Eye Steak. The server given me some salsa and limes to complement the taste of my food. As my orders are ready, i started talking pictures with watery mouth. The smell is good, it looks great and the final test is to taste it. As I try to bite my quesidila, i stop and devour the delicious taste of it. And to cut my story short it is the best Quesidila i tried before. The steak is delicious and very juicy. I enjoyed the authentic Mexican taste of the food. The crew are very nice and the owner, who is also the one who cooked my food, also came to my table to ask me about the food. In town, came by with friends. OMG this was real home cooked meals! I had the Camarrones en ajo, my friends ordered: Chipotle Shrimp Quesadilla (the sauce was really good), Carne asada burrito plate (the meat was tender and seasoned to perfection) and last one was was the great ceviche also very delicious. Do not bypass the carnitas! First time experience at this establishment. The interior is a little wonky with COVID rearrangement so the atmosphere is not as athletically pleasing at the photos suggest. Look past that last statement because the food stands alone. We shared the carnitas carne asada plate which was plentiful for sure. The carnitas it was describe by our server is her grandfathers recipe and he leaves the bone in. So you are really getting carnitas ribs. These are advertised as the best carnitas you'll ever have. I can't disagree. Being bone in left the outside of the meat with a delicate crisp with fall off the bone tenderness throughout. What pleased me most is they weren't fatty and the spice was out of this world with flavor. The carne asada was delicious also with perfect marinade. The dish is accompanied by roasted onions, grilled peppers and avocado. I'm not a rice fan and there was nothing notable there. The food was a wait but once you see what comes to the table you realize that this was freshly prepared and worth it. We drive from Tucson to San Diego frequently and we will be making this a routine stop that's worth the diversion. I plan to make it a habit to make the quick drive to Calexico for a couple of shrimp tacos (different review) and hit Rosa's Plane food for a to go meat platter to share with family in San Diego! Horrible customer service. The waitress was super rude it seemed she didn't ike her job. The food was okay, i asked for enchiladas, and the plate only had two. I had never experienced going to a Mexican restaurant and paying 7dlls for chips and salsa. I went for a drive one day and wound up in Calexico at about 8 pm. Between that and the pandemic, decent food options were limited but Yelp brought me to Rosa's. The parking lot was dark AF. I don't remember the lighting outside the front door being very bright, either, but it's on the edge of a residential neighborhood so perhaps there's some unspoken history there. My curiosity got the best of me today. I drive by this restaurant every day and wonder " how good is it". Today I had lunch there. Oh goodness this is truly authentic Mexican food and by far the best in Imperial Valley. The staff is welcoming and so friendly, the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The food is delicious. I reccomend the Chili Rellenos and the Chabelas de Cameron or I hear the Ceviche is excellent. This is a must try restaurant. I will be back. read more

well Its great to see Rosa's plane food back in El Centro, It is the same owner from the calexico airport in years back. later moved to the Imperial airport, then back to calexico at the abandoned hamburger stand. now it is finally found its way back to el centro at the abandoned Italanios building. the restaurant shows that rosa and her daughters have put all their marbles in this place for good. the place was replenished nicely, new beautiful furniture from guadalajara. it is in "soft opening" stage, and rosa promises more things will be added. the main thing is the FOOD! it has always been great throughout its long journey to el centro. A recent visit was no exception on the delicious food. we ordered the fish tacos and the shrimp chile rellenos. one thing you need to notice is that Rosa will not scimp or cut corners when preparing a meal. the fish tacos had a tray with generous perfect pico de gallo finely chopped, guacamole, cream cheese topping, hot sauce everything home made, the tacos filled with a big piece of breaded fish cooked just right. this fish was not frozen junk , you could see the fiber fish lines as it was freash fish , then breaded and fried beans and real sopa de arroz , orange moist and fluffy. I can't recall any mexican restaurant that takes the time to cook the spanish rice like this. details in the cooking make this a restaurant gourmet worthy with a self taught chef in the kitchen. Rosa's should be included in a visit by Guy Fierri food network show. the shrimp are not cheap supermaket junk, these are tasty wild caught shrimp. You all know that any eatery is as good as the cooks/chefs. I have seen many great chineese restaurants go down in quality when there is a new chef, and when a restaurant wants to cut corners and leave out quality ingredients for their food. Rosa is proud of her cooking. stop by and say hi ti her and her daughter that runs the cash register. I usually come here often before or after work ...it's seems they are very short staff as the always take fairly long to prepare food and I understand it's not fast food yet waiting for alejas an hour to get one or two meal plates is a lot of time for me ...I recently ordered the ceviche and they didn't even offer me mayo or ketchup nevertheless utensils mind the fact that I am on my way to or from work last thing I want is to worry about little stuff like that missing on my meal , I also got the carne asada plate it don't even come with veggies ...I've had the plate before I'm the restaurant and it usually comes with cebollitas or chiles ...my todo carne asada plate had none of that and they gave me the wrong tortillas I had asked them for corn and they have me flour ...overall I'm not the one to complain yet i payed 60$ for two plates I would've at least expected to get my meals right read more
