This is a "re do" if an old long standing restaurant, reopened for about a year now. Hubs and I were looking for something quick and casual. This popped up and I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in. The owners have taken care to give it some upscale touches. (The ladies restroom is selfie worthy.) There is one pool table, nice dining spots for groups and couples, a dartboard and a really nice couch area with a fireplace. The food was pretty good, drinks and service were great. Happy to have stumbled on this place. Just keep in mind it is a bar. There is music, karaoke the night we were there...the point being if you're looking for some place intimate to have a conversation over dinner this probably isn't it. I live in the building next door my family was leaving our home when a kitchen worker jumped from behind the gate and yelled trying to scare my kid and puppy the dog barked and growled at the worker the worker then began verbally assault my kid and threatening to shot my dog my girlfriend step in-between the worker and our kid and dog he then began verbally assault her I tried breaking it up he got in my face and was screaming that the puppy trying to attack him he wrecked of booze. He then threatened to shot my dog then said he would "fuck that kid up" this isn't the first time I have had issues with him he was throwing empty shooter bottles in our backyard and driveway read more

Great food. Service was good. The ambience is a total change from the original bar that was there. Jim's bar. Which was where my parents met many years ago. Great hole in the wall and definitely recommend going there. read more

Was looking for a new place to grab dinner and a drink. This popped up. You have to try their wings!! Better than any plane we've tried (even Hacketts)! Wait staff was awesome. I had the beef tips and mashed potatoes which was good. We both had drinks from the bar. All in four drinks and two dinners, plus tip was $80. So not too bad with drinks. Roscoe's used to be Jim's. When it was Jim's I rated them three star. Since they've rebuilt the place and rebranded as Roscoes it's five star. Nice clean and modern. Also has great Cajun food. read more

April 22, 2033 Party of four traveled to Carthage because we heard the food and drink was good: it was average. The music was so loud we could not hear each other speaking. I asked the bartender to turn it down and he complied...barely. Few minutes later right back up even louder. The restaurant at that moment comprised our table and two other couples. There were three people sitting at the bar. They all looked over at us laughing as the bartender cranked the music while looking at me. It's the last time you will see my money. read more

The food is great. I've only had the red beans and rice every time I visit. The shrimp and grits are great too. I wish they would have hurricanes all the time. Not just on Fat Tuesday. Service is good. Inside is a big change from when it was Jim's Bar. But it's a great restaurant. On a side note. The restrooms are amazing. Sounds weird. Driving rt 66 & our motel recommended this place. We sat at the bar - our bartender was great. We left to go & eat somewhere else & wound up coming back here. We had the shrimp & cheesy grits which were amazing & a bargain at $10. Grits were cheesy & the shrimp (6) were seasoned & cooked perfectly. There our flowers everywhere which add a nice touch. I'm from out of town, but I'm also a local. I came in with friends tonight and, initially, had nothing but great things to say (the atmosphere and the holidays decorations were great and it's nice Carthage has such a cute bar/place to dine, etc). We appreciated the bar was busy and were patient in waiting at the bar to be seated, and waiting at the bar to get drinks. Waiting. We asked to be seated when we saw a table was available (versus being seated). Again, we patiently waited to be served and then waited approximately 45 minutes to receive 2 of our 3 entrees. As soon as I voiced dissatisfaction with waiting approximately 20 minutes for my entree as my friends consumed their meals, I was met with excuses--no clean plates, the establishment is small, the kitchen is backed up, etc. The owner's daughter, Cara, came over and was immediately defensive, even putting both hands in my face--aggressive and beyond rude. When the waitress gave us the bill, I said my entree should be discounted given I essentially dined alone. Cara came over again, offered a mere 15% off my entree, accused our group of being rude, attacking the server, etc., and demanded that we leave (which we couldn't as they had overcharged us for drinks and we still needed to pay our tab). Cara proceeded with her unprofessional attitude and profound lack of customer service, thanking us for never coming back! She sent a "bouncer" over to stand over us as we paid our tab and gladly left. Customer service is nonexistent at Roscoe's and aggression/defensive/blaming management is---alarming! read more

People who have gone into this before always told me how dark and smokey it is. I went in here and it is indeed dark, but not as smokey as I thought it would have been. There was only one bartender working. Even though it is a bar and grill, I would have loved to enjoyed one of Jim's Favorites. The Jalapeno Burger looked really good. But the bartender who was this fine looking cougar said she didn't want to open up the kitchen. With the only person working, she didn't feel comfortable being away from the bar area. When I first got there, she was a bit snippy with me, but she eventually warmed up. If it is both a bar and a grill, then there should be at least two people. There is only one TV and it looked like a small 16in TV. So you are spending your entire time starring at computer screens for gambling. It isn't good for a solo act. There is a band stand, but I don't know how active it gets used because I didn't see anything that promoted it's use. All I got to say about this is that it seems the perfect candidate for Spike TVs Bar Rescue. It definitely needs a makeover to make it more of an attractive hangout. But maybe this isn't what Jim wants. He may in fact may wanted a run down hole in the wall feel. read more

Super nicely decorated and very clean. The only place we could find on our way through town to get dinner and a beer! Menu is much better than pub grub with a bit of a Cajun theme on a few items. I was invited to a birthday party at Jim's Bar last night, and I was impressed! The size of the bar, in my opinion, is just the right size, this place is perfect for an evening with friends or a party. It also has an outdoor area that is a rare delight for an in the city tavern. The bartender was really very good, she was friendly, but not to the point that she spent her time visiting (She took good care of all of her customers). It was not Karaoke night, but when requested by the majority of patrons, she had no problem complying, try that in most taverns you'll get a definite no, especially with only one bartender. She handled both jobs very well. If you are looking for a very enjoyable experience in a pleasant atmosphere, give Jim's Bar a try! read more
