A great cafe serving an excellent range of teas, coffee and scones. A great place to catch up with people.

As it turned out, the selection of brunch food wasn't that great to be honest; especially with newer places like Papercup making more efforts in the food department. After an uninspiring look through the chill cabinet, I spotted the breakfast menu and decided on the scrambled egg on wholemeal toast, with an Americano of course. The staff were very cheery and helpful though, which goes a long way towards making you feel welcome. The breakfast arrived fairly quickly, and the eggs were tasty enough if a little small in quantity - it couldn't have been more than two eggs - and the toast was fine. Nothing exceptional, but fine, as was the coffee. The place was pretty empty when I went in, apart from a businessman in a window seat who was chatting on his mobile the entire time I was there. This did at least mean that there was nobody else using the free Wi-Fi, so I took advantage of all that bandwith to update a bunch of apps on my phone. iCafe is fine if you're not too discriminating - I would rate them as a step above Costa - but there are better artisanal places around these days, and some of those are not too far from this place. Next time I think I'll keep walking.

Not sure if it's my…read moreaversion to chains of anykind (ok, it's an uber small chain of 2 stores), or the fact that i've seen it manifest itself from a jack of all trades coffee shop / internet cafe / dvd rental store, master of none, into a pretty comfy internet cafe. What ever the reason for my reservations, they now have to be blasted from the water on a couple of accounts. Things that make it OK: - The coffee is better than it's ever been, as is the service which is now more coffee shop than 'A Cappuccino?... Is that the name of the film you want to rent?' - Cakes... flippin yumerenstein! - The worn in look and feel of the joint. Ok, some would say its a little scruffy. I however like my coffee shops like my trainers... worn in and a bit worn round the edges. In all, a great wee coffee shop with good cakes, decent coffee and a couch to fling a small child onto whilst you dip your saturday afternoon brain into a cup of caffeine.

This is just a bog standard internet shop that offers prices a little more expensive than the average. I came here with my friend when he needed to check his emails before meeting his girlfriend at Haymarket station. Cleopatra has a few snacks but not an extensive range and they also charge you 35p if you want to go to the toilet if you have not paid to use the internet, which they tried to make me pay despite me being with my paying friend, which I felt was a little rude.

These days, it's all been sadly replaced by Facebook, and other such social networking where you score points by gaining friends and coming up with quips every two hours. I'm nostalgic for the days when downloading took a fortnight, MSN was revolutionary and everyone made websites using Geocities.com ...sigh. But back to the present, and Cleopatra's. There's no frills or fuss here - I can't even remember if there's Wifi but I assume so....it's quite sparse and not many seats, but it's out of the way enough to be able to get a table and peacefully go about your business. Even though you assume there aren't many machines available, I've always managed to get one here without waiting time! The machines are modern enough, there is a small range of snacks and drinks, it's cheap and there's a printer if you need it. I don't always like to cart my laptop around with me (for the fear I'll break it more than any other reason), so this is a great place for me to catch up on my Yelping and check if anyone has commented on my exciting facebook pictures...(!) Yes, we all succumb to the power that is social networking!

It doesn't need to however, as quite amazingy it's the only internet cafe in Glasgow and has saved my bacon on a couple of occasions, so it's best just to grit your teeth and put up with it. Though I've never been sat next to anyone browsing through hardcore porn, the guy next to me once was on a website called "British Spanking". He looked a bit like Manuel from Fawlty Towers as well which made it even funnier.

It isn't right to call it a "cafe" given that the only food or drink availible is from a slow vending machine. I have only really used the place for Internet access and not tried any of the other services on offer, though I don't expect they are much better. The prices - £2 an hour, £5 for an all day pass - are to be expected, but you would also expect at the very least computers that had working mouses and keys that weren't stuck down. Plus the seats are uncomfortable and the computer screens are very far forward - a health and safety disaster. But the very worst thing about this place is the sorts of people who you have to share company with. I've had them all sitting next to me - smelly jakeys, people bellowing down mobile phones, weirdos who talk to themselves, neds listening to very loud rave music through their headphones, you name it. Somebody at work even told me they had to share company with a person who happily surfed through hardcore pornography. I've only used this place because there isn't much of a choice if you urgently require internet access and there's nowhere else to go. Avoid like the plague.
