I had reservation of going to Current because it used to be Dragon Fly... not sure if it's the same owner(s). Anyway, the decor is contemporary with some of the interior elements carried over from Dragon Fly. I really liked the bar with the ultra modern woodwork with lighting and the dining seats were actually comfortable; sans the plastic seats when it was Dragon Fly. Current is spacious without making you feel like you are in the middle of an empty warehouse. I was at Current for happy hour and the drink and food specials are quite the deal. The bartender told us that happy hour was over soon, but if we ordered drinks/food at the moment he would serve us later at the happy hour fares. We ended up eating at a table and I found the seats cozy and like the way the wood tables fit like a puzzle (details, details). The sushi was very good and fresh! The spicy tuna rolls were delicious and they did not just pile on some spicy paste. I would not pay so much for sushi, but we were there and did not feel like going to Daily Grill. The service was fine and dinner was pleasant without it being overcrowded, even though it was a Monday night. read more

This place was came highly recommended, so being huge sushi/sashimi fans, my husband and I decided to check it out for dinner on Friday. The place is trendy and probably better suited for drinks and a bite at the bar than a nice dinner out. The decor is modern and chic, but the chairs and tables were a bit uncomfortable to dine in. The chair seat tilts at an angle that raises your knees, so my knees were grazing the bottom of the table and my husband's foot fell asleep. The lighting was quite dark and it was hard to hear each other talk as the music was loud for restaurant dining and tables close so you can actually be part of your dining neighbors conversation if so inclined. It also smelled like...a bar. The service staff were polite and somewhat attentive. We ordered some drinks, a few items off the yakitori-type menu (lamb, beef tongue, pork belly & chicken gizzards), sashimi tasting & spicy hand rolls. The cucumber-gin collins was good, but it took longer than anticipated to get refills. The yakitori items seemed to have been grilled with no seasoning then all had the same soy-based glaze brushed. We weren't getting the grilled glazed bits we were looking for. The lamb was way too salty. I favored the pork belly as it came with a scallion bite which cut the soy-based glaze. Other than the pork belly, I'd skip on this menu. The quality of fish was really great with our sashimi and hand roll orders. The fish is quality, so I don't have any real complaints about that. I also appreciated that their wasabi had (what appeared to be, at least) real wasabi grated into the paste. It could be regular horseradish mixed in. I couldn't tell you, but I enjoyed the texture with my fish. Maybe I should've added a roll to our meal or something, but I didn't leave completely satisfied with my dinner. I can't really say I would ever NEED to come back here. The sushi was good, but it didn't make for a good dining environment. Maybe sit at the bar, have a drink and order your sushi there. I have only been on the Rooftop on Saturday's. It is really small and the 'Lounge' area(s) are pretty lame. But I enjoyed my nights there. In addition, It does get really packed because the lack of space upstairs. Drinks were okay. Crowds were above-average. You can decide for yourself. read more

I went to RoseBar/ Current Lounge for their "Saturday 4/27/2013" event. I mention the date because on their website, under the Events link, with the date for the specific event, it says "RSVP TO GAIN FREE ACCESS BEFORE MIDNIGHT." So I RSVP'd. And so did my guy friend. We got there at 11:30pm. The club insisted on charging my guy friend, claiming that despite what their website represented, the fee was at the "promoter's discretion." DISHONEST and TACKY. After coming so far, finding parking in the busy Dupont area and walking a half mile, we paid and wanted to like it. We left in a few minutes and got a taxi to a fun spot in Chinatown. I went to Current on a Saturday night and I came out with mixed feelings about the place. The music was ok and there was a great looking crowd.....and I mean CROWD. The party goes off on the 2nd floor, but there were way too many people crammed into the space. My group tried to escape to downstairs, but it wasn't open. To top it off, there was a major faux pas with the tab. First there were drinks on it that no one had, then somehow, the card was charged 7 times adding up to over $600 dollars for 1 round of drinks! The bank took care of everything, but that could definitely put a damper on your weekend. RESTAURANT REVIEW: Food has been excellent the 3 times I have been here. The restaurant area is pretty empty usually. The happy hour specials are pretty basic. The eel is the best I have ever tasted. Happy Hour Review! Best deal I've found so far in DC in terms of hh price, quality and quantity. The rolls aren't extra large or creative like on the West Coast but this place'll do if you're not into all the fusion stuff anyway. I always order the same: Eel Nigiri, Salmon Nigiri, Spicy White Tuna and California Rolls. They don't skimp on the nigiri size, which is rare and primarily why I frequent this place; also the quality is better than anywhere else I've tried in DC. Don't know what the nightclub's like but the service during hh is fine. If I had to pay DC sushi prices during regular hours I'd come to Current before anywhere else. read more

This club doesn't do nothing but scam and put their hands on people. When I went there my boyfriend was jerked out of the club and beaten by FIVE of their security guards for no reason. His phone and jewelry was also stolen. The guy recording the incident had gotten slapped in the face and his phone taken a way as well. When I was outside of the club I seen them drag out another guy also a woman who appeared to be unconscious. They didn't even call the ambulance for her; they just left her on the ground and I heard one security guard say "oh well I'm not dealing with that." My boyfriend and friend also got doubled charged for their drinks they ordered that night. I wouldn't suggest this club to anyone. They mistreat people and the police that came wasn't any help. I went to Rosebar the past 2 Friday's. The cover is $20 and you're usually not in line too long prior to 12:30am. They start off by having only the front area open and it can get pretty tight in there. When they open up the back area many people head back there. The back area is set up with the rooftop open and it has a big VIP section to the left of the DJ and the rest of the area is for everyone else and the bar. It gets tight and hot back in the back area. The DJ's in both areas come with the heat. The DJ takes back to the past then right back to the present, from Hov to Young Thug, it's a great atmosphere, plus the MC isn't on the mic a whole lot to mess up the music. It's a great Hip Hop venue that is casual on the dress code. The spacing is the only rough part. read more

I ended up at Current on a Friday night to meet friends for a b-day party: This place has plenty of eye candy after 11 PM, but unless you're a senator or CEO, good luck. If you've ever been to a yacht club party (don't ask), you'll know the feeling. The fact that the 50+ guys have more luck than anyone else says it all. Bouncers were shockingly nice by DC standards, but clearly pulling a Northern Italian (putting cover money into their pockets). If you're famous or 50+, go here. Went here at 9pm on a Saturday and it was easy to get a table. My friends and I were thinking of having dinner there and staying until the lounge upstairs opened up. Drinks were great (ginger mojitos) and the sushi was excellent (but pricey!). We ended up staying at our table until midnight. Our server was very friendly and she made sure we had our drinks and our fill on sushi. The crowd there was great too as we were doing our share of people watching. There was a first date happening (.. so we were imagining anyway) at the bar and we were rooting for the blonde to make a good first impression hehehe. The lounge upstairs was OK, we weren't feeling it. The rooftop portion was really packed, so get there early! So, dinner was great; the lounge area was not our scene. Even though the upstairs gets a little cramped at night, the see-through dance floor makes it seem like you have more room. However, it's weird looking down and seeing people eating Sushi below. The Sushi is awesome! I'm the kind of guy that goes for the boring California and Spicy Tuna Rolls, and I know it's hard to screw them up, but seriously these were some good Sushi Rolls. I attempted to go to this bar but let me tell you..... I was disrespected at the door. First off, I waited in the line 10 min to get in on a Friday night where I was greeted at the door by an uninviting bouncer who said my NC ID was fake. He then proceeded to tell me that the picture was not me, and that I should not attempt to go into a 21+ bar with a stamp on my hand. I explained that the stamp was for 21+ at Mad Hatters across the street ( my male friend was granted entrance in front of me with the same stamp)! Not a bad location, came here for a graduation get together, you have to walk upstairs to get to the club. We got a "table" which is pretty much a nightstand with a half booth behind it. The only benefit to getting a "table" is having a place to sit or keep items with out to much worry of someone walking off with your things or not being able to grab a quick seat if you get tired of standing. Aside from that, not really a benefit to getting this. We enjoyed the music and atmosphere here. Very minimal issues as far as knuckleheads go, and bathroom situation is a little wild. I believe it was 5-6 bathrooms for everyone. You have to stand in a line of males and females in between the two sections and wait for a bathroom to free up before you can walk in. Enjoyed this spot though, I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a quick drink and enjoy music with a group of friends. read more

I have never written a review before but thought my experience at Current last night warranted one. My sister and I went to Current at the tail end of our night to see my friend who was DJ'ing at what they call their "rose bar." We offered to buy him a shot and he told us to tell the bartender to put it on his tab. After 10-15 minutes of watching the bartender shoot the shit with another customer he finally decided to help us. We ordered 3 lemon drop shooters and told him to put it on the Dj tab. He rudely told us there was no tab and we need ticket s "hunny". I said no problem and promptly paid for the drinks, $30, leaving him a $2 dollar tip because I thought he was rude. I walked away but my sister wasn't as lucky. The bartender held up the receipt and said "Fuck this tip, you and your friend aren't welcome at my bar, take your shitty tip some where else." I'm sorry but has he forgotten this is America and how much I leave him is my choice! We took the shots, they were horrible. I took the empty plastic cups back to his bar, placed them respectfully on the bar and told him they weren't good. Next thing I know I have a flash light in my face and I am being told to leave, walked out by the arm by security. The bartender didn't like my tip so I got kicked out!!! When I asked the security why I was being escorted out, he pointed at the bartender and said "Because he said so." I am in the night life industry and I have never known for any club, lounge, or bar manager to give that authority to a bartender. I asked to speak with the GM, head of security, anyone that was in charge and they said there was no management there. This isn't the first time I've been to Current but it will most definitely be my last. There is no customer service here and the bartenders and security are disrespectful and rude. My advice, take your hard earned money some where else, where the bartenders deserve it! read more

Came here from philly for my birthday because I heard it was a great place to celebrate. It was terrible! I literally had to make the best of it because I didn't want my birthday to be completely ruined. I ordered my section days ahead of time and informed the person I communicated with that I would have a large party (16) and if they had sections to accommodate us. He informed me that there were two sections that would and we proceed with the transaction from there. Upon arriving at the club, the outside staff was very friendly and accomadating. We arrived at our section and shortly thereafter we begin going back and forth with the security guard that was in our area. He was aggressive and very rude, stating that my party cannot sit on the bench. I kindly let him know that we had a large party and that they gave us this specific section because of that. He yells back that they needed to get up. I then asked to speak to the manager so I could explain that I specifically laid out that I had a large party and would be accomadated. The security guard REFUSED to get the manager stating that they needed to get up first before he got the manager, further escalating the issue. At this point my bottles for my birthday and let me reiterate MY BIRTHDAY comes out. The bottle girl was extremely pleasant and let me know that she would get the manager for me. The manager comes (who was awesome by the way) I explain the issue, he let's me know that whoever gave me that information misinformed me and that they did not have any sections that accomadated that many ppl. Cool. He was polite and to rectify the situation he said the the additional people could sit there until the table was sold and that he would even have the security move the rope back to allow for more space. Problem solved right? WRONG! The minute the manager walks away the security guard moves the ropes even closer to us making the space smaller and mind you there are 16 of us! He grilled us the ENTIRE night. He literally was going out if his way to ruin the night. I've never in my life seen anyone more miserable. If I was a person who let people still my joy, I would have been pissed the entire night! I ignored him for the remainder of the night because ultimately we paid too much money, travelled too far, and it WAS my birthday. I have never wished someone to get fired because I believe that there could be teachable moments. But he needs to be FIRED IMMEDIATELY! He was rude, confrontational, and completely ignored the solution that the manager and I agreed to. I was at Rosebar on March 23rd, 2019 at 11pm in section 512 near the hookah. To rap it all up the dj was wack. He literally played trap music the ENTIRE night! Now I like trap, but all night?! It was barely anything for us ladies to dance to. All and all, I will not be returning. I'd rather go to the Park at 14th which was my first choice and I only switched because Rosebar has hookah. Never again! I can do without! read more

I don't even know where to start. This service at this place is horrible! All they care about is money. Me and my friends when for a day party on Sunday and we wanted to smoke hookah. We were told we needed to spend $100 at the bar before we can smoke the hookah for an additional $60. I've never heard of this ridiculous requirement anywhere I've been in the DMV, just to smoke hookah. After this the bartender told us we could purchase a bottle and get a table to sit and smoke the hookah. So we preceded and actually bought two bottles. After we purchased the bottles the bartender then told us we weren't getting a table. Who would pay $390 to stand and drink at the bar?! I came here by accident, I was headed to ESL but was starving! I sat at the sushi bar and chatted up the sushi guys. They were extremely friendly and helpful. I went with the current sushi tasting, which offers 9 nigiri and a roll. My favorite by far was the salmon, it was soft, buttery and delicious. The chef toasted the skin just enough that it added a bit of crunch and char, it was absolutely delicious. I ordered a spicy tuna roll. Now my biggest pet peeve is that most spicy tuna rolls aren't spicy at all, but I still order them in hopes, you can never lose hope! Luckily they delivered here, it had a great heat from some fresh jalapenos! I didn't think I'd finish the whole plate, oh who am I kidding, of course I could and then some! I shall return. read more

I've been to Rosebar on two occasions the first time I went was back in February 2018. My cousin had a table reserved so the wait in line wasn't bad. It was like any other club packed with people, hot and sweaty. The VIP sections up front were small and to top it off some girl at the table next to us puked all on my jacket...PISSED! I didn't even notice that there was a back area but I assume that it was exclusively VIP. I was so annoyed that night that I didn't want to return because of my bad experience. Last weekend I decided to give Rosebar another try as they had made some renovations so I had RSVP for the re-grand opening. It was free before 11 so I got there early and waited in line for a good 20-30 minutes. It was a little after 11 when they started letting people in but our passes were still honored which was a plus . The VIP sections are lined up against the wall providing more floor space and they are sectioned off with ropes to limit overcrowding. The bartenders were very attentive and the DJs were good too. The back area is open to everyone so that people aren't just limited to one space . The drinks were a bit pricy but I didn't mind since I ended up ordering hookah which is $60 and requires a $100 drink minimum. I plan to return here for my birthday in June. read more

Went there for Memorial weekend, I was extremely disappointed from the over priced watered down drinks and the automatic tip charged by the "waitress" I guess they hire anyone to be a waitress these days. I stood there and watch her be nicer to the male customers than the females TERRIBLE! The music was trash they played a lot of local DC artist who are unknown TERRIBLE! Also we RSVP and still had to pay $20 at the door ‍ The crowd is not upscale maybe only 20% was. I haven't gone to Current for the club/lounge scene. I merely went for a nice sushi dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this place was quite good. The sushi was fresh. The sushi chef was knowledgeable. It was a bit expensive, but I'd pay good money for good sushi. I loved the loungy look of the restaurant/bar area. Even the sushi bar lit up. If you're looking for some decent sushi in the DC area, I recommend Current as long as you're not too tight on a budget. I will have to go back to try other things - stuff from their kitchen & a revisit of their sushi to check for consistency. Check back for updates! read more

Went there on a Saturday night. Not the crowd you want to surround yourself with. My credit card was charged $20.00 for one drink and unfortunately left at the bar. Sunday morning I realized someone from Rosebar had managed to scam my card, taking everything out of my checking and savings through what appeared to be ATM transactions through the nearby bank, Citibank. Got a return call from Rosebar saying they still have my card, which further confirms that someone at their establishment is clearly a scammer. Discussed it with the manager, didn't even receive an apology for any of the inconvenience. Luckily my bank is taking care of the problem, but whoever works at Rosebar that is scamming is probably getting away with thousands if not more, of other people's hard earned money. I don't know what kind of idiot only has two bartenders on for the busiest night of the week. I went for a bar crawl and one bartender literally put her hand to my face and took someone else's order for no particular reason. I understand people have bad days and you don't know what's going on in their life but areshia was down right rude and unprofessional for her job as a bartender. I would not recommend this bar to anyone. The bouncer physically dragged girls out of the bathroom to expedite it's the line. This place is too fancy for me, but the staff was all very nice and they have vegetarian options. Come here for a special occasion to marvel at the water in the ceiling and how much it must have cost to build such a display. I can't really eat or drink here ever again after what happen last time, which really has nothing to do with the establishment. My friend cut his hand and bled all over the place. He left a trail of blood from the front door to the restrooms. They brought him into the kitchen and they washed his hand in the industrial sink. The whole sink was filled to the brim with bloody water. It wouldn't be so bad but there were dishes and glasses in there. Got a private tour/sneak peak of the newly opened "Current" (formerly Dragonfly) from Yamma a few hours before opening night! Wow- they spent a fortune making this place look very similar to Dragonfly but much better and every single piece of furniture, bar, lighting is custom... The concept was to make you feel like you're on a yacht in the south of France or Sardegna. I don't even know where to begin, the teak floors are gorgeous, complimented by the white walls, Plexiglas and teak wave bar that lights up, overhead there are see through floors that shoot out water in a synchronized fashion (reminiscent of the Bellagio in Vegas!!!)- the sushi bar has been flipped to the other side, bran new custom DJ booth, curved plastic wall designs (you can touch them as you walk up the stairs- I bet they'll be punctured by next week end) oh and an architecturally stunning teak and stainless steel staircase that takes you to the second level. Upstairs more of the same but the view of Conn Ave is beautiful and it was fun just to sit there and look at all the passer by's as we discussed this monumental renovation! The sound system is so powerful that when you put the volume on level 1 it was too loud so they took out 6 sub woofers! The bathrooms upstairs are a must see- when you go inside and lock the door the glass fogs so you are no longer visible! I have probably just touched on a few of the items that they have changed but I would recommend going in to see this new gem in mid town. I dont think they've started serving sushi yet and believe it or not Dragonfly had really good sushi (the wait was just a little long)and they will have the same Chef's returning. Pay in cash. Met a friend here for dinner a few weeks ago. Sushi was decent, but not spectacular. Good seaweed salad. The waitress, however, lost my credit card. That's right, lost it. After avoiding me for more than five minutes (during which time we could see a busboy looking around the area with a flashlight), I asked to see the manager. "Give me a couple minutes," was her reply, after which she disappeared again. I finally flagged down the manager, who, when I asked if his waitress had, in fact, lost my card, responded with, "I just got here". He was nice enough to comp our meal, which was also necessary as the waitress had lost my form of payment. In the end, my card was recovered. My friend found it under the table across the aisle. But not until after the waitress told her she would need to check my friend's pockets. My friend's evil plot to steal friends' credit cards foiled by our cunning waitress, we left. Came here because St Yves was closed for a private party. We arrived a few minutes after 11 but since I had signed up on Eventbrite my group got in free. One of the bouncers did give me a hard time because one of my friends who was parking had my wallet/ID and he said that she would have to pay but she ended up getting in for free. I was surprised at how small this place was. The front room was empty and everyone hoarded into the back so I can see how things can get cramped pretty quickly. I also didn't get a "club" vibe. It definitely felt like a U St style bar, similar to Marvin. This is a decent place to start your night but I wouldn't stay past midnight. read more
