I'm by no means a sushi-bar buff, but I enjoyed Current Sushi. My friend and I made a reservation on New Years Eve, which was probably a good idea for a late evening outing on a weekend. We were seated right away and were served drinks and sushi relatively quickly. The staff was nice and ready to answer questions upon request. It's a little pricey, but worth it if you love a good sushi splurge. The ambiance was calm, minimal and chic. read more

Ive only eaten sushi and had a goose and soda here so my review may be less than comprehensive. Ive been to at least 10 sushi restaurants in dc and they have to be in the top 3 for sushi. Really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that our waitress had too many tables and the service was slow but she was very pleasant so it wasn't a stressful experience. Good spot. Came here with my girlfriends for an "outdoor rooftop party" and first I didn't​ realize​ that girls had to pay ​an entry fee ( I'm​ not bothered as I have vacationed​ in Europe it is a common practice there) But other bars near there do not do this so I am expecting a grand reveal​ on to why this fee was there. I've been here a couple times and haven't really been disappointed; in my opinion, it's one of the best places to have a good time in D.C. The decor is nice, but it's usually packed, especially the area past the bathrooms. The party itself was good, but the service was bad. I had in incident where on of the male bartender was cursing, yelling and spitting in my face over me telling my friends that it was open bar from 4-5. He tries to get me kicked out of the party, but after explaining the situation to security it was deemed that I did nothing wrong to warrant that reaction and so I was allowed to stay in the party. We tried Current Sushi twice in our search to find a new regular neighborhood sushi place-- now that Sushi Taro has lost its soul. The sushi at Current was surprisingly good, especially for a place with very low happy hour prices. The yellowtail was very good and the salmon was excellent on both visits, though on our second visit the tuna was not quite as good as on the first visit. The spicy tuna was also very good, though we have still not found a place that makes spicy tuna as tasty as the old Sushi Taro before they dropped it from the menu (and dropped us as regulars). The skewers were flavorful and the wasabi shumai causes a real wasabi eruption. We sat at the bar and watched the chefs in one visit and we were impressed by their skill. The service was impressive. The waitress noticed that a skewer looked overcooked, inquired about it, and swiftly brought us another order even though we did not opt to send it back. The first order was OK, but the second order was excellent. There's still some room for improvement at Current, but the capacity crowds on both our visits shows that a lot of people already know how good it is. We're definitely going back soon. read more

I went there last weekend, during the nightclub hours, so this review is for the club. However on a short note, I looked at the menu and they charge $15 for one sushi/maki roll... Anyway, we were there on a Saturday, and fortunately there wasn't a line (12pm). Unfortunately they wanted $20 to get in (regardless if you are a man or woman). There's no way we were going to pay $20 to get in. Especially by the snobbish, pretentious blonde woman who wasn't really feeling us. But maybe that's the personnel this venue goes for, to give the impression that it's exclusive (like all the fake reviews you find here, repeating the words, "sexy", and "trendy"). Fortunately we know people, so we got in for free. Surprise, surprise, empty. We ordered drinks, $10 per drink. Service was fast (bc it was empty), the female bar tender was nice (bc it was empty), but they serve on those small glasses, lots of ice, 3 sips and the drink is gone. We went to the second floor where I must say, the DJ was great (visiting from Miami I think). Very good music if you like hiphop/rap/reggeaton/rnb mix. They have a VIP section, and the bouncer that guards the cord is NOT nice - mind you the bday parties going on where for people turning 45 or 50 with old women dressed as prostitutes. We went to the outside patio, and it seemed that the younger crowd was there, good ambiance, lots of people but not crowded, which was nice. People were having a good time, I guess music was very good, but I am not a fan of techno/electronic. The SO and I had a pretty solid experience at Current. We wanted to grab a quick bite before a show we had tickets to see at DC Improv. We made reservations via Open Table but we're bummed to find out about a 30% discount available through Savored :( Oh well! We shared a few sushi rolls and the udon noodle bowl. Sushi was fresh and tasty, but the Udon was small and the shrimp tempura in the soup was VERY soggy, which made me think that it wasn't freshly prepared. Just held a big 30th birthday party at the RoseBar lounge, and it went off without a hitch. Managers offered great drink specials, reserving the outdoor patio lounge was simple, great customer service, and a beautiful venue. Highly recommend using this venue for private parties. Couldn't have gone better. read more

I've been to Rose Bar a couple of times in the past and had a fairly decent time. I went to the day party on Saturday, July 25, and was treated poorly by one security guard in particular. He completely took advantage of his position as a security guard and physically pushed me forward in the line for the restroom because he needed to "see me to place me in the restroom". Then, I was refused to use a particular restroom because it was "VIP". I attempted to complain to the manager who refused to give me the gentleman's name. So, I took a photo of the security guard and was then, escorted out. I do not recommend anyone visit this establishment. They are extremely unprofessional. read more

My review is based on the restaurant. When you walk in, the modern and sleek look immediately catches your eye. The staff is attentive and friendly. The leather chairs are some of the most comfortable restaruant chairs i have sat in and really enhancedthe dining experience. As for the sushi, it was very good, but a little pricey for what you get. I come to rose bar every Thursday night because I live for the 90s music, but tonight i was very displeased. The bartender who looked of Latina decent with curly brown hair was very rude. I purchased three drinks for my friends and I but before I had a chance to think about leaving her a tip she rudely demanded that I have her one which also caused a big seen because I've never experienced a server/bartender speak to me that way. Very nice restaurant and the decor was chic and impressive. The sushi was fresh and the service was pleasant. However, glasses for the drinks, (especially for the price), were too small...but I was able to express my dis-satisfaction to the manager and he gave me and my guest a round on the house. Nothing great about this place. Never paid to get in and have gone a few times. Everyone always congregates on the rooftop patio. Every time I've went there has been a rich Arab guy popping bottles in the VIP section. A stupid Persian prostitute hangs out on rooftop. Place is kind of lame. Drinks aren't cheap. I'll disclose up front that I'm old and don't really club anymore. So I'm writing this review from the perspective of someone old enough to know better than to put up with bad treatment from a place I paid to be in. I came here to celebrate a friends bday. I really wish young people would wise up and stop giving money to business that don't value their customers. They charge a $20 cover to get in and breathe their wack air but offer no free seating. To sit they want you to pay $500 or more for a table and bottle service. Then they want to charge you more for a wrist band to enjoy their rooftop and Gods air. On what planet does it make financial sense to pay $500 for a $20 bottle of liquor and a seat on a cheap uncomfortable couch. I know this is standard club practice ... Which is why I stopped going to them. My feet were hurting so I argued with a bouncer until he let me sit for a few minutes but I shouldn't have to do that to sit when I paid to be there. Get some free seating so women have a place to rest their aching feet. Meanwhile I'll reserve my hard earned money to pay to go to the restaurant across the street where I can get a meal and a seat for much cheaper. And kids stop paying clubs to treat you poorly. They need your money to survive. Give your money to establishments that treat you well. And if you're considering paying $500 for a bottle come holler at me. Ill give you some financial advice for a small fee and we'll invest that $500 in something smarter. read more

This place is terrible, steer clear! I went with a group of 4 girlfriends, and we decided to get a hookah for $40. They brought us the hookah and set us up at a table. Shortly after that, another patron came up and said we were at his table. At first I was annoyed, but they said they had another table for us, so we let them move us. At this point, I went and bought us all a round of drinks, and when I came back the bouncer who claimed he was a manager told us that we couldn't sit there bc it was a $500 table. I said we weren't going to leave without getting the $40 from the hookah that we could not finish. They refused to give me the money back, so we repeatedly asked for the manager, whom they would not go get. After getting $20 back, we left. As I was leaving, the bouncer who claimed to be the manager was in the hallway, and I admit I said something border-line rude and then he put me in a chokehold--I could not breathe for 30-45 seconds--one of the scariest moments of my life--from this chokehold, i got a bruised lip and a bruise on my arm that is still here a week later. Mind you 1) I am a girl at 5'6" (granted I don't wear dresses, but dammit i' still a girl) and 2) he was around 6'4"--looked like a damn linebacker. Another bouncer had to pull him off of me. We left and again were denied our request to speak with the manager. read more

I made my way to Current Saturday night. The line was not dreadfully long at all, but the cover prices were ludicrous, they wanted 10 bucks for the ladies (lets just say that didn't happen)... I truly don't see how that aids to the male-female ratio at all, but whatever. I walk in and the first floor is virtually empty. So, of course, I head upstairs, on my way up I hung on to the railing for dear life, the steps looked like someone had just deliberately poured alcohol on every single step, watching and just waiting for someone to stumble and fall. I get upstairs and it's jam-packed, made my way to the bathroom and got the usual dirty looks from that group of girls that you find everywhere that think that they are god's gift to this earth. I like to just give them a HUGE smile, like "hey thanks, you're cool". I'm standing in a line for the bathroom and notice that the doors to the "stalls" fog up when you lock them, otherwise you can see right through them. Two girls that are ahead of me, smashed out of their minds, they go in the bathroom, don't lock the door and of course one of them starts to pull down her unides....not smart. I get into a stall and hope to god that the light does not die on me. Oh and fyi, don't actually sit on the toilets, you're bound to catch something, use the "hover" method...you cant go wrong. Anyway I think that the doors are cool, but I think that they should not be in a place where people get so drunk that they forget how to un-do their belt or even if the thing around their waist is indeed a belt, it just does not make sense. If I got piss ass drunk and wanted to go to the bathroom, trust me, the last thing I would think is "Remember Sahar this is the place were if you don't lock the door people will indeed catch a glimpse of your goodies", it just would not happen. Oh and before I went into the bathroom I had to ask for new toilet paper bc the toilet paper in the bathroom what soaked with god knows what. I get to the bar and my friend buys a round of drinks which was SOO over priced and the tequila was chilled... The actual bar is attractive; the design goes with the name of the place properly. On the floor, from what I witnessed, there were two squares where you can see through to water. I never think it's a good idea to put a see through floor bc you can see all the dirt that people carry in with their shoes, but hey whatever floats your boat. Oh and the watery floor is due to the pushing and shoving that seems to be needed to get from point A to point B and not just a little shove a Tavares Washington type shove. Back to the water, there was not enough of it, when I heard people talking about the water in the floor I thought it would be this elaborate thing. I think they should have gone further with the current "theme" it looks like they just gave up on it after the bar. The music was great dancing music, there was not a song that I can protest to. Everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves, it was a good time. Oh and just so you ladies know...the doors next to the window upstairs are NOT bathrooms :) read more

There was apparently some confusion with our friends the bouncers and staff at the door were extremely professional, but the chick working the door needs to be fired. I was disgusted by not only her unprofessional and sloppy appearance, but her attitude. After standing there waiting for her to finish gossiping and whining about how tired she was, she finally acknowledged she had people waiting on her. She claims she needs to see a text from the party that bought the table (which was provided) then starts yelling about how we're lying and lets the next girl in, after flashing a text, with no problem. Worst experience i have had in a long time. Bought a table for $500 and when my group of friends finished for the night we informed our waitress we were ready to leave. We we're quickly hurried out of the bar so they could reset and re-sell the table. I had to wait over an hour to get my credit card back bc the manager/bouncers seemed to not care once they had our money. I would not return to this bar or recommend to anyone. read more

I arrived at Rosebar last night around 11:20pm for my birthday. I will never be going there again unless I'm dragged there with my friends. First they were being extra about the dress code, however they we still letting guys in with dress shoes and dirty, dusty looking shirts, hats, and all kinds of dingy gear. I even saw a stretched out T-shirt make its way thru. We ended up getting a table so everybody could get in and guess what... We still had to pay $60.00 on top of the table which was already $500.00, because of the dress code for 3 people with our party. Remember, everybody I was with looked clean and well groomed. Hugo boss shirts, Lacoste, and other items were the issue. By the time we actually got in the club they took us to our table, where they had another group of people sitting and expected us to ask them to move. Long story summed up, I had to get rude with the waitress to make her move the people out of our section. You think after you pay all that money for a table they would treat you with some respect. Nope, not at Rosebar! The only thing this club had was a pretty good DJ. But I believe I can hear good music just about anywhere, without the extra hassle attached to it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AT ROSE BAR! I won't be going back there unless they pay me to come, or learn how to treat the paying costumes with dignity and respect. You know there is a problem when a place's categories are "dance club" and "sushi." Some friends and myself stumbled on this place at about 7 pm on a Friday night, trying to find some sushi. We chose Current Sushi for it's location than anything. I think that's the best I can say about it. The service was terrible-our sushi (straightforward rolls) took an ridiculous amount of time even though the place was half full. This gave me plenty of time to do some people watching. After awhile, I started having flashbacks to freshman year frat party. I saw one girl dressed in 6 inch heels and a tiny denim romper with a front zipper pulled nearly halfway down. As I looked around, I realized that this girl was far from an anomaly. Rather fake satin mini dresses and shorts shorts were basically a dress code. What I'm trying to say here is this: Current isn't a sushi restaurant, it's some darkly-lit, run-of-the-mill pick up club. Although the sushi didn't make me sick, I think I would have been better off just ordering a cocktail and not wasting my time. read more

I had my first date here with the girl who is now my wife! This was back in August 2010 when this was Current Sushi! We had delicious sushi and sake and the atmosphere was very romantic. The frosted-glass bathroom doors and the waitresses in skimpy nurses' uniforms made for positive distractions, but otherwise the place was no fun. The lighting is appropriately dim as you'd expect from a lounge, and the venue is arranged so that you have plenty of space to move around or form a circle of people to socialize with, but the crowd on the particular night I was there (a weeknight) was extremely douchey. If I went earlier in the evening for sushi, which appears to be pretty reasonably priced, I think I would've had more fun. read more

went for Phamily's going away party, and we had a blast. they no longer serve sushi or do the sushi happy hour which was a disappointing aspect. the dj was nice on the front 2nd floor. the 1st floor (where some other friends were) was more of a techno scene and it was pretty empty. it is free before 11 regardless if your sign up or not. they didn't even check when i got there at 1030 pm. Also valet. it i in a serious club area so not much street parking going on. Almost like a upscale U street type. read more

I live about 2 blocks away from this place and I was terribly disappointed when Dragonfly closed and the possibility of another "cover-charge" kinda place was opening up. True enough, I was right. First of all, that old place Red which was replaced by Fly Lounge now doesn't play good house music. They play Billboard top 40 kinda music, snooty bouncers who have nothing else better to do than to flex their pecs and to only play common type of music. So now Current opens up and I hear has the same management as Fly...I could be wrong but yeah....the velvet rope, the bouncers with suits, attitude, "let's not smile so patrons will think we're tough", and drinks that don't even give you a good buzz. Secondly, when we decided to transfer over to Eighteenth Street Lounge, my all time favorite place, the guys behind the bar could not find my husband's credit card. Not only me but the people around me who were also trying to close their tabs were getting pissed off waiting for their credit cards. The manager was rattled because there were a couple of us who have been waiting for 20 minutes already to close our tabs so when I finally got a hold of the manager who came by our corner, I told him, "If I don't get my husband's credit card back now, I'm canceling my American Express card and you guys won't get paid!!" Anyhow, I got it after 25 minutes but what a pain in the butt they are!!! read more

This place gives me mix feelings. The music is good and so is the atmosphere, but the service is horrible. The bouncers upstairs and downstairs are very rude and treat the customers as if they are inferior to them. They're attitudes are unfriendly and they look down on everyone. The establishment seems as if it's run by a white supremacist due to their treatment towards their customers.
