Sushi was not bad! Crowd too pretentious, bouncers lame. Beware obi-wan, the force of the douche is very strong in this one. I like to dress fashionably and go to trendy places and over the years I think my tolerance for pretentiousness has gotten pretty high. With that said I just couldn't take the pretentiousness here and that should really say something. Inside is a bit too narrow and on my last visit I had annoying experience at the door and inside was HOT as HELL. I guess the AC broke?? It might have something to do with the fact they try and have a patio near the back, but whatever it was it was so hot most people were drenched in sweat and complaining. The narrowness of the place means you get bumped into quite often so if you dont have a table you better have a lot of patience. Cool things I guess is I've seen members of the washington capitals here (Nicklas Backstrom & John Carlson). Music was the general mix of pop/hip hop/house. One thing that annoyed me is I came for a bday in which my friend had a table. When I arrived I let them know I'm here for a table and told them the name, the bouncer guy tells me oh they havent arrived yet and i can pay $20 or wait for them. I dont get in til I call another friend with some strings to get us in. Why would you lie and say the person is not there when they are, and how do you not think I'd find out when I get in?? It was my first time in DC and I came here Saturday night for a friend's birthday. It was a blast. I thought the prices were reasonable between the cover and drinks. The vibe was fantastic, and I had a fantastic time. The bartenders were incredibly friendly. The bouncers were also fine. I appreciated the fact that every now and then I would notice that they were enjoying the vibe too. The space is relatively small for the amount of people who were in there, but I didn't mind that either. Music was mostly trap music, which I enjoyed, but I would not have minded if the DJ had a bit more variety throughout the night; trap music isn't always ideal to dance to. There were only 5 or 6 bathrooms, but there was bouncer who controlled the line, so that alleviated the process, so I didn't mind so much. Overall, the establishment physically does not have anything special. Typical prices. Typical space. Typical set up, really. However, what makes this place stand out is the atmosphere, and just for that, I would come back to DC from 4 hours away just to be able to experience it all over again. read more

Very Dishonest Business. I did not enjoy the scene, music or the drinks. This lounge used to be Current when it was decent. But now it has turned into a place that likes to charge whatever they want to your credit card. And mind you, I was completely sober when I signed my bill. I've tried calling and leaving a voicemail to the GM (yes, YOU). No reply. I'm going to let this go and pretend my money went down the toilet and Rosebar will go beyond measures to get their undeserving +20% tip atop overpriced drinks. **NIGHTCLUB REVIEW** A friend of mine was DJ'ing here on a Friday night, so me and a buddy decided to go and check it out. Now I've never actually gone to Current to eat nor do I remember vividly the last time I've been here (years ago). I've also been to extremely good sushi spots in DC so it doesn't make sense for me to come here and have dinner with the mixed yelp reviews here. I mean, with places like Kushi, Sushi Taro, Zentan, etc why bother going to Current and eat? They market themselves more as a nightclub and bar so you would have to question the quality of the fish here. But onto the nightclub part. So upon entry, the bouncer immediately tells me and my friend $20 for a cover. Well, the event itself was marketed as FREE before 12. Not only that, but we had been placed on a guest list. Well both me and my friend tell the bouncer that we had not only guestlist but that the event was free before 12. Without question, the bouncer lets us in. Now, my biggest gripe is the bartenders here. I order one drink, a jack and coke. Just one. It cost me $11. Now I understand drinks at any club or bar in DC is going to cost that much, all good with me. But don't serve me a jack and coke in a tiny plastic cup that is used for water jugs and fill it to the brim with ice with barely any jack and/or coke. They are even so cheap to serve the coke out of cans, but I guess that would be better here since its fresher. Not only that, but it had been raining previously, so the tarps they use to cover the Rosebar was leaking everywhere. Even near the DJ equipment. I mean seriously, that is expensive stuff. They could at least invest in some quality roofing for the patrons and the DJ. At least Eden on I st isn't that cheap and does a rooftop club right. And I hate Eden. After receiving the drink, both me and my friend both look at each other completely upset since he was going to order a drink as well. We actually had just come back from the Gibson on U and 14th (which btw, although a bar and not a club, serves extremely great drinks at prices ranging from $11-$16) so we wanted something simple. Well, the PE ratio of the drink was well not worth it. I wanted to close my tab out since it was so shitty. The bartender rudely tells me that the card minimum was $20. Uh, really? So instead I go to the bartender at the other end and they close the tab for me. Crowd here was mostly Asians too, so if you're into Asians come here! Its not as packed as Modern, so at least you can move around. But its not my thing, even though I'm Asian. I would never come here on my own unless its a friend that is DJ'ing. AGH. OK. OK. Let's get down to this review. I just got home from Current. We did like three rounds of shots and (by the way, house vodka shots are about ~$9 a pop, yes I drink house vodka shots because I'm 22 and am allowed to make poor decisions like that and also I don't have any money) were STILL not drunk enough for this club. The music was horrendous. Planete Chic was hosting, so I assumed that DJ Herve was spinning (he was pretty awesome at the Tabaq Bastille Day party)--but it was another guy, who played Aerosmith, an arena rock mix of "My Humps" and "Viva La Vida." The one good song he played was half of Estelle's "American Boy" before switching to another eighties classic. STOP PANDERING. I've mentioned in an earlier review (see: Josephine http://www.yelp.com/biz/josephine-washington#hrid:kOIRiv9XkCFeDbbdtHAvUQ) how if any other DJ apart from Theresa played "Viva La Vida," I'd have the urge to jump into the booth and throttle them with my bare hands--it still stands. Unless a universally appealing Colombian girl is rocking the bongos, I am NOT IMPRESSED. I'm not entirely sure how to describe it. It could be thought of as "upscale" in that it has interesting shapes embedded in plexiglass in the bar, as well as the hottest Asian bartender I've ever seen in my life. She was gorgeous. I was jealous. Other than that--three girls trying their hardest to enjoy themselves still couldn't pull it off. And, as usual, something weird happened, which so often happens to me whenever I try to go out in DC. So, smoke break, all three of us were sitting outside a carpet store. I was suckin on my last cigarette and my friend felt the urge, so I hit up the guy sitting next to us for a smoke (since he had insinuated himself into our conversation): Me: Hey, do you have an extra cigarette? Him: Yeah, I do. He stood up, reached into his pocket, presumably to fetch a cigarette....and then stumbled off across the street to the divider, where he got into a taxi, got out, and then went to join the line outside of Five. ???? OH, and I almost forgot this exchange: Dude: Hey, where are you from? Me; I'm from Singapore. Dude: Oh, Singapore. I hate Singapore. I went there with my family once. Singapore sucks, man, it was so horrible... Nice to meet you too. Whatever, I'm drunk, as you can probably tell from the general incoherence of this review...but still not drunk enough to have fun at this club. Also, I have hiccups. P.S. AND BY THE WAY, if you check the club's website (or Jetsetmafia.com or Planetechic.com), you'll see multiple photos of the same three girls....that's us. Because we were the only ones dancing. S****ty club. Current is the epitome of why I do not like clubs. I went here for a friends birthday and I was on the "guestlist." Arriving at 11:30, they wouldn't let me in unless I paid the $20 because the "guestlist was too full" even though it was good until midnight. Good thing I brought my arguing pants because I had to yell at the bouncers for a good 5 minutes before they let me in for free. Total BS. The club was totally empty (because HELLO it was before midnight), but I guess they wanted to compete with 1223 to see who can make the longer line. So my friend's table was upstairs. Low and behold, I had to wait in another line to go upstairs. Too full they said. After waiting for another 5-10 minutes, I finally go upstairs to see my friends. We're just hanging out, I'm having my beer, then a friend's friend joins us and said he went through the exact same experience. On top of that, the drinks he was ordering were total weaksauce and definitely could've had more alcohol in it. I was drinking beers that night, so I can't really comment on this. They play house music, so if you're into that kind of thing, then maybe you'll like it, but I miss the good old Nations. Oh and what finally boiled me over was what I saw on my way out. Shocker as I go downstairs, there's another line of people waiting to go to the second floor. But I guess someone knew somebody (as always the case), and I see about 15 people come in from the front door and go straight to the second floor bypassing the line. Again, a bunch of bull-S. They also have unisex single stall bathrooms. So I feel bad for you ladies who has the unfortunate experience of going in after a guy was so drunk that he forgets to lift the seat up. If you've lived here long enough, like myself, then you've seen the DC club scene transformation. This is one of those places. They changed owners and management, which really just made it seem like what it used to be, with a tiny upgrade in decor etc. It used to be called Dragonfly, and it had the sushi bar eating area downstairs and then after a certain hour on weekends, it would turn into a club...same situation for Current Sushi. I thought that the theme was supposed to feel like you're on a boat because I heard that the owners were the same ones as FLY (across the street around the corner from Fudruckers)...but now I'm not 100% sure that it is. My group was on the guest list, and we had zero issues at the door getting in, which saved us $20 a person (thank GOD). I think that we weren't hassled because we weren't trying to pretend like we were anyone special waiting in the guest list line. Just showing up to meet up with other friends. I admit, the decor is really lovely inside, especially since the old spot used to just have bright white walls like K Street Lounge. Once we went upstairs we looked down and noticed that there were colored squares on the floor that you could look directly down to the floor below....so if you're a girl with a skirt on...you've been warned. Wear pants ladies. No Britney business....the crowd by the 1am hour TOTALLY CHANGED...and I had to leave. I don't like going out to spots where folks don't go out to have a good time and look happy. If you're depressed, or just going to stand in a corner and try to show off, then I have a problem with you. I hate posing people. There I said it. **DINNER REVIEW** Despite the hostess telling me they were filled to capacity, they still managed to seat us when our reservations somehow did not make it through to their system from opentable.com. Aside from that snafu, our overall dining experience was great. The sushi here at Current is very unique. Don't expect to find any traditional rolls that you would see at any other sushi establishment. The rolls here were different... most of them featuring avocado and/or almonds. Yes, gotta get a crunch from some place. Overall, the sushi and dumplings we sampled here were a solid 3.5 stars. Noise is what ruined this dining experience. The music playing was much too loud for 7pm. Also, the layout of the dining room makes you feel a bit cramped. Where is lacks in usage of space, it makes up for really neat decor. For 3 rolls and dumplings we spent $40. read more

Meh. This is a place that tries to be something more than it really is. Let's be real now. $20 cover charge after 11 pm for a place not worth $20. The bouncers are also hella rude. Yes, bouncers can do their jobs without being asses. The restaurant is located on the lower level and the club/bar is located on the upper level. There are two rooms, an outside tented area for poorly remixed electronic house music and an inside area for poorly remixed hip hop. I typically don't like the whole club thing, but this place is actually pretty cool. Handsome men, and beautiful women that aren't hell bent on dressing like hookers to get attention. There was a cover charge of $5 -- but it was cheap and well worth it. The bartenders were nice and the music was pretty darn good. I also appreciate the area, if you don't like the place, you can always leave and skip to another place close by. The restroom situation though, I don't know what's going on with that. 60 people in line at one time (upstairs an down) kinda hurts my fun. Well not really MY fun, but the person I was with. I knew better and used the restroom before I got to the place. Thank God. Other than that Current, you're A-OK with me. Which is why I am giving you an A-OK rating. Cute guys, sexy gals, good music, cheap cover, pretty good drinks, open area...how can you really go wrong? Well, next time I'll try to come earlier so I won't have to dance by the staircase all night (Pretty CROWDED) BUT! I see why, everyone loves you Current. I have been to Rose Bar twice both on a Friday Night ! Once in the fall and just last Friday . 3 levels bottom floor top floor and outside deck (which extends from the top floor. I love the crowd here , it was an adult crowd both times 21+ no teeny boppers lol . The crowd was mixed black /white/asian/spanish but when I say everyone here is here for the same reason is to have a good time and Party ! There are bars outside as well as inside , the music is heard clearly inside and outside . The prices are a little steep but pretty much what you would expect in that area . The outside deck is a big plus especially with the DJ they have . I am a fellow DJ and I must say he brings it each time all night pleasing everyone . The downfalls are .....1. is the bathroom location , the bathrooms are placed directly in the walk way of the entrance to the outside which is a high traffic area for people going in and out -waiting on the bathroom -drunk trying to hug a wall -or just chilling in the walk way .....2 The cover is always changing seemingly based on whoever is at the door . Overall I like the atmosphere not having to worry about drama , will visit again soon ! read more

The stars are for the food, I haven't done the club thing, probably won't. When Annetka P. wants to have a night out, it usually involves heels, strangely lit places and dress codes. Not usually my gig, but every once in awhile, it's fun to dress up and have "posh" kind of night. We decided to to start our night at Current. We got there at 8:30 (they won't make reservations before that) and it was completely empty, so our waitress was pretty attentive, and patient as our party straggled in one at time up until 9. Drinks are expensive, no doubt about it, I only got one. And the ambiance is super sheik... yes that is colored water running through the ceilings. And the sushi is a little expensive, ranging from $6 to $9 a roll. However, the sushi is totally worth it. It was some of the freshest sushi I have ever tasted. The spicy tuna roll definitely had some kick and the crab and avocado roll had REAL crab. Holler. We left as it started to get crowded around 10ish though with the clubbers and made our way over to a bar that was a little more "us." read more

Came here for the Tasting Journal with Ruth C. Since this was a "tasting", I won't criticize the bargain aspect of this.. cough cough. 5 courses. 3 winners. 2 rain-soaked losers (Us). My appetizer was a seaweed salad. Julienne carrots, seaweed, and some sesame seeds. Have had much better interpretations elsewhere. 2nd appetizer was edamame. Honestly, I dropped the ball here by not picking something interesting. Ruth's wontons weren't crispy, but plump and savory nonetheless. My sushi entree was the erroneously named 5-fish Sashimi- Yellowtail, white tuna, tuna, and salmon. I've stated before that I'm pretty apprehensive about sushi places. From what I understand, Ruth C is also. Luckily for us both, this place delivers on quality of the fish. My tuna was a rich healthy red, with a darker center. Quite tasty. The white tuna and yellowtail were certainly up to par, but not my favorites. The salmon was... oddly executed. I believe they lightly cooked the outside with something acidic to change the texture. I mean, that's your call sushi chef, but I wasn't thrilled by it. For the main entree I had the pan-seared tilapia. Let me just say it was magnificently done. The crust was uniform; it added a crisp texture and delicate spice to the fish. It was really bangin. Can I say this again? My tilapia was excellent. I wish I could pan-sear any fish so well. It was of course, evenly cooked throughout and the bed of sauteed baby carrots and cucumbers were a nice touch. Quite delectable. My dessert was two scoops of green tea sorbet. Hooray for the subtle flavor of green tea and smooth texture of sorbet. Ruth had the flan which was gone before my ice cream, if that is a testament to anything. I was under the impression "5 courses + 2 sake" meant we got to try 2 sakes. Instead we get to choose between hot or cold? Wtf. We chose the cold and it tasted like any hot sake I've let get cold before. Perhaps I'm just not much of a sake aficionado, or embittered by my lack of double drinks. This place seems pretty trendy. On the wall behind Ruth they were playing time-lapsed deep-water photography... which put me in a trance for most of the meal. Sorry Ruth, I love seeing detritus of the sea being devoured. I'd come back for the tilapia, but not for the price or atmosphere. read more

Went here for a surprise dinner party for an old friend last night. I showed up first, being the lucky gal who got to tote the 20 pound cake to the festivities. I stood at the receptionist podium waiting patiently. I knew they were expecting us. I stood and waited some more. I peeked around the corner and tried to make eye contact with someone, anyone, who might be employed at Current. Eventually I gave up, strolled into the restaurant and collared someone. Just then, three other members of our party showed up and so we asked to be seated. At this point there are four of us, a big ol' cake, and a giant helium-filled happy birthday balloon. We are politely told that we can't be seated until our entire party arrives. We politely explain that this might somewhat ruin the effect of the surprise party, which is why we are there. Eventually there is capitulation and the receptionist says they'll allow us to be seated when one more person shows up. This is revealed as if we're being done The Biggest Secret Favor on Earth. Woops, and I even promised I wouldn't tell anyone, and there I go.... Fast forward: all the guests have arrived and are seated, and orders are placed. I watch enviously as my companions are served various Kushi and rolls and salads. I wait patiently for even one of the items I ordered to arrive. Meanwhile, dishes are brought out haphazardly, with no flow or timing, and complete confusion reigns at the table as a variety of servers stand there trying to 'sell' the dishes. They seemed to have no idea what they were doing. Really. Meanwhile, I'm waiting for that Sapporo....thinking longingly of the Unagi Nigiri I ordered what seems to be a lifetime ago...watching as my companions clear their plates. We eventually remind the "main" server that I'm also trying to dine at Current that evening. When the food and drink arrives, well, the rolls were satisfactory, the ungari disappointing, and the Sapporo delightful. To their credit they did bring the cake out with candles added, and that was a nice touch. They also successfully kept a separate tab for me and my guy so we wouldn't have to go through the divvy-up-the-bill dance at the end of the evening. Miraculously, despite the confusion of the servers, our tab was actually correct. And so, make of this what you will. read more

Tonight was grand opening.... Coolest thing are the floors upstairs with water flowing through them. As far as novelty goes, it all ends there. Yes, they have the see-through bathroom doors that flip opaque when you lock them (that some guys can't seem to figure it out). Doesn't every club have that now? Why they expect a woman to tip the restroom hallway attendant for a quick mirror check & lipstick re-application is beyond me! If you're down the street looking for the typical DC scene than you may as well come here. You'll love it if that's what you're into. It was all invented on same tried and true experiences all over town. The decor is nice. The look is "white". There are tables for groups along the second floor across from the DJ. Music was definitely thumping. Sound system was actually quite good! My ears were not ringing afterwards, though the volume was perfect. It's fun as long as the drinks are free and there's no cover! It was pretty crowded and there were a ton of people trying to get inside all night long. read more

Let me make this clear; no one comes to Current to eat. They come to Current to be seen moving sushi around a plate for an hour at Current. Current is full of teeny, tiny, skinny model types who sit and pout over their tuna roll. My husband and I came here to dinner, actual dinner, and we got strange looks for ordering more than one dish. The restaurant doubles as a nightclub, so that's the crowd you should expect. Everyone is super dressed up. I LOLed at the "causal" dress that's encouraged on the OpenTable website. I guess "causal" means sparkly Taylor Swift-esq mini dresses and sky-high heels. The sushi is prohibitively expensive and just okay. I've had much better for much cheaper. The drinks are good, but again, ridiculously expensive. Sure, the atmosphere is super posh and sexy, with dim lighting and modern accents, but I go to restaurants because I like eating there, not because I like staring at the pretty decor. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. read more

I met a few friends here for drinks and sushi last week. The drinks: overpriced, but decent. The atmosphere: nice looking club. Doesn't look like they changed much from when it was Dragonfly, but not bad. The people: A little douchey, but not horribly so. Lots of fake boobs and fake tans. The Food: Decent sushi, but are you kidding about the wait? We ordered the food and it didn't get there for over half an hour. Seriously? How the hell does it take that long to get sushi on a plate? I honestly thought the waitress forgot about our order but when my friend asked about ordering some more stuff, she was told it would take 20-30 minutes to get more food and even suggested going across the street to Fuddruckers if you are really hungry and can't wait that long. As far as clubs go...Meh, I've experienced better. I figured it'd be a great time, given that we'd been to a party sponsored by the same people before and had had a great time. Not the same DJ at this party, though. The music, to be generous, kinda sucked. He played a good song here and there, enough for a mild bootyshake, to which I got such responses as, "Wow, you're hot!" and "You can f*ckin' dance," from a moderately attractive Black guy in a toboggan (Do you need a hat to keep you warm in a hot club?) and a middle-aged white man, respectively. Given the compliments (and booze), I was feeling pretty good about myself. So sexy, in fact, that, outside, sitting on the windowsill of a carpet store, I felt like having a cigarette. My friend had run out, so she asked the guy sitting next to her if she could bum. "Yeah," he said, standing and digging in his pocket.... Then he walked away. Yep, just walked away. Clearly, I'm not meant to become a smoker. Not even to increase my sexy factor. I wanted to like this club because of it's cool ambiance and pretentious decor, but neither the music nor the patronage (who refused to dance to anything, to boot), afforded me the pleasure. read more

I went to Current for my birthday dinner and enjoyed it very much. I was surrounded by great friends and sushi, can you ask for anything more? The decor is very sleek and minimal. The sushi was incredibly fresh and my dirty martini was perfect. The menu is on the smaller side offering a small selection of appetizers, sushi, and a few entrees. I was only here for dinner, but the place starts to get filled around 10 for more of a club/lounge feel. When we made the reservation they asked for a credit card, which I found odd, but the overall service was good. read more

I have no idea about the food here, because despite having a reservation, we were never seated. We had a 10.30 pm reservation on a Friday night. We got there at 10.10 and were told it would just be a minute. We went to the bar for a drink, which was weak and over priced. There were no seats so after we finished the drink (around 10.30) we were pushed over by the hostess stand where we stood, awkwardly watching other people eat and be seated before us. Perhaps they were just that far behind in their reservations, but it was unacceptable. We finally left at 11 to find food elsewhere. It looked cool ... but not cool enough to go back. read more

Went to Current last night for dinner granted, there was a private event doing on up stairs but the service was below average. Me and one of my girlfriends walked in from the freezing cold and ask for a table for two, and where do you think the hostess sat us??? At the table in the direct path of foot traffic and the front door then she had the nerve to ask if she could check out coats, uhh no honey, I'm going to need to eat with my coat on since you put us in front of the freaking door. I ordered the food twice because one waitress came and took our order and took off and was never to be seen again. About ten minutes later the second waitress came up and re took our order with no explanation on the whereabouts of the first waitress. We waited for more than 20 minutes for our food and when it got there it just looked unpleasant. Sure, it could've been due to the fact that I was a little P.O.'ed about the service and the fact that I was sitting in front of the freezing night air, but can you blame me? Since we were hungry we ate the sushi but in addition to it not looking pleasant, it didn't taste pleasant either. I think I made better sushi in one of my sushi making classes. Yes, the place was busy due to the private event upstairs, but I'm still giving it 2 stars for the lackluster customer service, and below average sushi. First test for a sushi place: quality of the sushi. Result? Excellent. I stopped by after work and made the 5-7 pm happy hour, which means $4 rolls and nigiri and $5 cocktails. The rolls were made American inside out style and rolled generously in sesame seeds. A nice touch. The nigiri was assembled beautifully and the fish fresh. Just the right amount of wasabe paste. Friendly sushi chef at the bar: check. Satisfied with my sushi, I was free to note the ambiance. Plentiful brown paneling and naugahide chairs, combined with lit-from-below bar, lounge music and sexy waitresses make it a kind of like what the result would be if I turned my parents 1970s rec room into a sushi lounge (minus the shag carpeting). The lighting is ambient, the vibe chill at 5:30pm on a Thursday, but slowly started buzzing louder as the evening went on. I would highly recommend this place to those who know good sushi and a good atmosphere and are in the mood for both. note to the guys: they definitely descriminate against less than attractive female waitstaff hires. But not so for men. One star docked for that! :-). read more

I went for the food and not the clubbing atmosphere, so I guess that was the first mistake. Obviously you go here to see and be seen, and not to enjoy good sushi. The sushi wasn't bad, and the prices aren't exorbitant, but it just wasn't good. I went for a friend's going away dinner, and I don't think I'd choose to go back otherwise. The decor and music made me feel like I was shopping in Express; think pulsing techno and a definite too-cool-for-school clientele. Thanks, but if i want to be made to feel underdressed and ogled by weirdos I'll hang out at Wonderland for 1/3 of the price. Like I said, the sushi wasn't bad but I've had much better in DC. It tasted fresh enough, nothing too fishy, and the rolls were alright but I can get the same or better quality for cheaper in this town, and with less attitude. The bathrooms were surprisingly not that great for a restaurant: two single occupancy gender neutral bathrooms with fixtures that looked like they were ripped from an Amtrak train. Seriously. But then again, this is more club than restaurant. As I was leaving I saw multiple Mercedes Benzes with Virginia plates drive up and deposit carloads full of girls squeezed into lyrca minidresses with hair poofs that would make the cast of Jersey Shore seethe with envy. Ate here last night. First off, I walked in and was immediately informed that I could not be sat until "my whole party arrived." Well, it was a party of two and the place was completely empty (it was early). I see my friend sitting at the bar (she wasn't allowed to sit down either), so we sit there. Hostess punishes me by immediately canceling my reservation on Open Table so I lose my points. All in all, a pretty rude welcome. On to the food. The food is ok, nothing great and the the prices are pretty high. The seaweed salad had good dressing, but was really tough seaweed. It was hard to eat and enjoy -- so don't get that. The rolls we had were good enough. Nothing to write home about. We got some appetizer that was tuna on a crunchy cracker...that was really good and highly recommend that, but not much else. Service was ok -- bartenders were moderately enthused about their jobs at best. I would have given it three stars if not for the rude welcome from the hostess. read more

Really well-maintained hookahs if that's your speed, but the place is great even if that's not your thing. We were hanging with the bartender Janet and she was amazing. I went there two weekends ago for my friend's birthday. I was first annoyed by the fact that there wasn't a real line. It was like a crowd that formed outside and it was on a who you knew you got in first basis. Well what's the point of a line then? When we got inside the drinks were overpriced and very weak. Then there was a line to go upstairs. I couldn't figure out why we had to wait in another line to go upstairs. When you finally make it upstairs after waiting for lord knows how long it's way too small. It's super crowded for the space (probably why there is a line for crowd control) the dj isn't even that great. There's barely any room to dance or even make your way to the bar. I honestly wouldn't have ever gone there if it wasn't my friends birthday. I sure know I wouldn't ever go back. read more

On this event-hopping night, I was invited to the Pinkberry VIP grand opening party. The VIP party was held the upper section of Current Sushi. With the modern technology of the iPad, we were able to sign in with the guy at the door. It was so convenient! The VIP party was nicely organized, there were selected cocktails available including champagne. In the backroom there was a full Pinkberry froyo tasting complete with toppings. In the main room the server also gave away a variety of the flavored froyo. Nicely done event! read more

(Happy Hour review only) On a freakishly warm night last night, I walked into Current and they had the heat on. Thank goodness I was only staying for an hour because I don't like to glow while I'm eating. We didn't find a seat at the bar right away but people started to clear out towards the tail end of happy hour and we snagged a place then. We decided to order a couple of drinks and share a few plates since it was the happiest of hours. The spicy tuna roll and the salmon and avocado roll were both solid, but I don't think I'd pay full price for them. The wasabi in the wasabi shumai weren't playing around - my sinuses were w i d e open after a couple of those. The happy hour here is pretty good, but you'll have to get here early for a seat since the bar isn't that big. Nothing in particular stood out for me here, but if you're looking for sushi in Dupont, Current isn't a bad choice. read more

Can I just say how I'm confused that all those times I headed to Midtown, I NEVER realized this spot was literally next door?? Anyways after signing up for the guestlist on their website, I was able to easily breeze in with super pleasant bounces (what a rarity) around 11. Although my friend's name was not found on their list (she signed up for some guestlist that wasn't on their direct website I guess) I had made sure to RSVP with a plus 1 just in case. Now I know it was early, but jeez it was so ridiculously empty. I was really shocked considering the DJs were great and the music had me wanting to dance immediately, even with the lack of dance partners (oh well I have no problems gettin down with myself!). I didn't get any drinks so I can't comment on prices, taste, etc. One thing I didn't particularly like was the tight bathrooms. Also if it's early and uncrowded there is no reason for your facilities to be dirty, eeew. The decor is lovely and the music was so bomb I might need to give them another go around, but for now we shall wait and see. The only thing that might prevent me from going back is the location. Connecticut Ave treks are always a pain if you plan on driving. read more

Club review only: This place has a serious case of split personality. First floor diners are trying to enjoy swanky sushi...but right up the stairs are neon glowing bars and hip hop. Step through the doorway to the outdoor patio and you'll hear everything from live sax to Arabic house. I'm all for variety, but this felt like someone threw veggie curry into a bucket of fried chicken. Also hate the set up (which is common in DC) where the walkway is the dancefloor is the walkway. Lord. It's hard to get your groove on with somebody pushing past you every 30 seconds. :-/ We were there for a bday party, so we didn't have to wait long. But the bouncers were acting like this was LAX it something. There was nobody special there, and absolutely no reason for the fake line. read more

A fight broke out on a Saturday night! I thought people knew how to handle themselves, clearly they didn't. The cost of booths and drinks were over priced for the quality you received. I will not recommend the venue for a good evening. read more

As I sat here for happy hour yesterday, I thought maybe I'd found one of my new DC favorite spots. The sushi and cocktails are good deals, although beer and wine prices don't make much hh sense. You can get 6-piece rolls for $4 and I had a full meal for just about $10. The smoked salmon with cream cheese and asparagus roll was good, though nothing spectacular. The salmon wasn't the freshest, but I was content for the price I was paying. The tuna in my spicy tuna roll probably had the same freshness quotient. I had been here on a late Saturday night in November, and was equally impressed/surprised to find out it was a vibrant nightlife spot since I was working just around the corner then.It was packed. The cover is $20 though the bouncer agreed to let the girls in our party in for $10. Great dance floor. And the deck in the back is nice where they even had live music (some guy was playing drums). Arguably one of the best places I've been to in DC in terms of dancing. That being said, and now that I've discovered their decent happy hour, I'll definitely be back here often. read more

I don't like to give bad reviews, but the only nice people I experienced here while working a networking event were the bartenders that helped our group. We arrived early to set up for the event and got no acknowledgement for about 30 minutes. Management (I assume they were management) just walked by us - no hello/welcome/how can I help you. Eventually, we managed to re-arrange to use the upper level. It smelled slightly of urine (I will give them credit, it was the Tuesday evening after a Sunday night club event...) My personal lesson: Don't go here again. And have events in places where people actually care about their business. read more

My friends and I went here for their monthly Afropolitan event (first Friday of every month) so this review will be about that... Event Time: 6pm-10:30pm (Free admission before 7:30pm. I got a ticket off Eventbrite. It's $10 after 7:30pm otherwise) Drinks: It was happy hour until 8:30pm and they had a list of 6 drinks on the happy hour menu -Beer (not sure on price) -Red Wine or White Wine $6 -Svedka Strawberry Lemonade $7 (good drink) -Svedka Pineapple Mango $7 (great drink) -Stoli Coconut Vodka $7 (friend had this she said it was good) The drinks were good but slightly watered down which is why I gave it 4 stars. The cups were kind of on the small side as well. The bartenders were nice though which is always good. Establishment: Rosebar is a nice spot to both relax and dance. (yes people actually dance here) They have plenty of seating and a big beautiful patio in the back. The bathrooms were nice and clean with stocked tissue in each stall. There are 2 bars one in the front and one on the patio. It did get rather hot on the inside by the end of the event, not sure if the AC was on. Crowd and Music: The crowd was full of young professionals mostly Black, African and Caribbean (because of the event I went to. I do not know what the crowd is like on a normal night) Everyone seemed pretty nice, just there for a good time. It did get pretty crowded as the night progressed. The music was mostly reggae, dancehall and hip hop so no complaints there. This was my first time at Rosebar and attending the Afropolitan event. I'm not one for clubs so let it be known this review is not for the post 10pm current, but rather, current as a HH spot. i've been walking past their $4 sushi rolls and $5 cocktail special sign almost daily, being that I work right across the street. tonight i had a craving for sushi so i popped in. cool decor they have in this place, and the comments about attractive women working there is definitely true - some true beauties! Anyways, sat down in the cool space-odyssey-like bar stool at the cool "current" looking bar, and ordered some rolls and nigiri. the spicy tuna roll was alright, nothing special, but the salmon + eel w/ avocado rolls were great. they also have pretty good eel nigiri here. one thing i noticed is that their wasabi wasn't exactly blending into my soy sauce - it just kind of sat at the bottom of the soy tray, which was weird. i tried it on its own and it had a weird granular/sandy texture, but it almost blew my ears off - wicked spicy. Anyways, for $21.60, I had 18 rolls and 2 pieces of nigiri - that's not too shabby. And the sushi was well formed and of good quality. I'd highly recommend it for hh. As for clubs, i think they all suck so i certainly can see that. read more

The only reason why I even decided on coming here on a Thursday night was for DJ Deemo. Love, Love, Love. It had a good atmosphere and not too many jerks but, that was probably because we went on a quieter night. A group of three, we had no problems getting in, and there was no cover if i remember correctly. Other than that, I still have my reservations about this place. I still liked it when it was Drgonfly and had decent sushi. As for the venue itself, it is on the small scale. Not many restrooms. Dance floor? its the bar area. There was one maybe two groups of people who got tables... and yet the empty seating areas you could not sit in... whatever. The drinks were decent but not decently priced. I don't think the food is any better but i cant vouch for that. Oh, and bolting down the roped off area with a bunch of drunk people isn't a really good idea if you ask me. It's like a lawsuit waiting to happen. read more
