Rosella KPT deserves so much more attention, it's a truly superb dinner experience. Chef Genevieve elevated our experience and made it one of the highlights of our trip to Maine. We sat at the bar, which I would recommend. We ordered a few pieces of nigiri and rolls, then Chef Genevieve asked if we wanted to have our nigiri "tailored" some, so she curated the pieces to what we may like--light, bright, bites or a more rich tasting option. Her selections were spot on. The fish was fresh, the rice cooked to perfection and the garnishes were perfectly paired to elevated the average sushi roll or nigiri. The cucumber salad was spicy, crunchy and so good with the yogurt. You also cannot skip the desserts at the end, the cherry on top to an excellent dinner. Sushi is also on point with flavors and freshness. Some items are a little pricey but nothing too out of the ordinary. Sake options are great as well. Our server forgot to give us one of our items though and then found out they were out. Because of this he gave us 4 of their sliders and said it was on the house which wasn't true once we received our bill. Overall though this places is great for sushi lovers and a posh dinner. I have been dying to try this place as it's the only sushi spot in the area. The restaurant is fairly small, so I would definitely recommend reservations, especially if you want to sit at the sushi counter/bar. The food was incredible, with really unique and complex flavors. That being said, the prices are honestly kind of insane for the portions. I understand quality sushi can be costly, but there are numerous sushi spots in Portland that are on par flavor and freshness wise that have more affordable rolls. Additionally, we got the coconut broth ramen for $19 which didn't seem like a bad price, as that's what ramen typically goes for, but when the bowl came out it was literally small enough to fit in our hand. It was truly some of the most interesting and flavorful ramen I have had, but for the price point on a dish with no meat in it, I wouldn't order again. The service also left something to be desired. The wait staff were all incredibly nice but they were talking loudly to eachother in a way that felt disruptive. They also never delivered small plates for my partner and I who were sharing everything or asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. All in all, if you have the money, I would definitely check this place out because the food was delicious and the environment was very cute, but otherwise I would skip. After 20% tip we spent roughly $120 and left feeling like we had just had a snack. 7/10 just because the food was so good and the wait staff was very nice. read more

Wow! This is some of the best service I have had in a long time. Everything from the people who brought us drinks to the people behind the bar describing the dishes were fantastic. We had probably 4 people waiting on us and it felt like Michelin star. And then the food was fantastic, some of the best sushi I have ever had. Just had one of the most thoughtfully curated and professionally (yet casually) served meals of my life. After deciding on a couple dishes (the spicy cucumbers and the ceviche) Genevieve helped round out my meal with the perfect nigiri additions (smoked steelhead trout, black seabass and lean bluefin tuna). Also took the staff's recommendation of finishing off my meal with the coconut milk sorbet, and glad I did! It was perfectly sweet, bright and herbaceous. I lucked into a moment where Chris had just opened a bottle of sake that wouldn't have been offered by the glass otherwise (Brooklyn Kura #14) and it paired perfectly with my meal. He brought us some options that I would not have normally ordered and each dish was flavorful and fresh. The manager, Ashley, is also fantastic, and the chef was personable and proud to share his dishes. We made a same day reso at Rosella for our wedding anniversary. We were hoping to try something new and nice for a special occasion. I want to preface this by saying we love supporting local businesses when we're in town and have a deep respect for hospitality workers, especially during peak summer tourist season. My husband is a restaurant worker and I used to be as well, so it's unfortunate to have to be this person writing a negative review, but our experience was simply too egregious to not pass on. We sat at 8:38 for 8:30 reservation, we got seated directly under an A/C unit which was uncomfortable, but it was the only empty table and we were late. Chris was our server, we ordered drinks and then about 10 minutes later ordered items from each section of menu. After getting our drinks things went strangely downhill. We sat for 45 minutes without the table being touched. The server then dropped two miso soups we didn't order, which was odd, and more time went by. Finally one of the hostesses noticed we didn't have any food (the two hostesses seemed to be the only ones paying attention at all) she said something to another server who came to check in on us. She explained the chef hadn't seen the ticket but was working on the order. She then dropped two rolls at our table, one which we hadn't ordered so at this point we'd been seated for an hour and gotten three items, only one of which we'd ordered. We explained to this new server that the food we were getting was incorrect at which point our original server came over and explained that the table numbers had gotten mixed up and another table had been getting our food. We then gave our order to him a second time. Finally, 90 minutes after being seated our original food began to arrive, it wasn't very good and at that point we were exhausted. We asked him to cancel one of our rolls because we had a babysitter and needed to get home. While I was in the restroom the server pressed my husband about how the food was, he's a chef, he wasn't going to lie about things that obviously were poorly executed (no acidity in the ceviche, super sweet and overly-gingered udon broth, etc). It was just disappointing. Finally, after at the end of this two hour ordeal, the server drops the check explaining he "took a few things off" but that we also "got a few extra things" so hopefully it all evened out. It didn't. He in fact, took one thing off the check, the $21 bowl of udon. The bill was $188, including an automatic 20% gratuity for what was easily the worst dining experience we've ever had in our entire lives. TLDR: spend your money and time literally anywhere else. read more

We just had the WORST experience at this horrible customer service shit place called Rosella in Kennebunkport. Horrible service, in fact we got zero service from any of the sushi chefs. Our food sat on the counter for 10 minutes while our "chef" went to bus tables and clean food off table other areas of restaurant. I'm Japanese and have NEVER experienced such disrespect from servers in any restaurants in my entire life. Borderline racist. I was the only Asian customer in the restaurant and the sushi chef kept paying more attention to other Caucasian customers over me. Do Not Eat at Rosella. Honestly when we complained that our sushi plate sat on counter for over 10 minutes while our so called chef turned into bus boy to the manager, his reaction was "let me go check the video" which truly infuriated my boyfriend. If the manager Chris had said "we ate very sorry how can we take care of this situation" instead of "let me go check the security video" like as of the customers are criminals this would have ended amicably. I work in sales as well and we know better than NOT to assume customers are wrong, EVER. We are paying customers paying for over priced food /wine for basically experience. I regret my downgrade review. Rosella's nigiri is sublime, exquisite. And I love sitting at the counter watching the magic. But service has changed since takeout began. I get it. Takeout will get the restaurant through winter. But last night I experienced an hour waiting for four nigiri as did the couple near me who arrived earlier. Honesty improves with age and the older gentleman was clear that he was unhappy about the wait. He got a song answer from the chef about takeout orders but he was right about serving restaurant customers first. And I was unhappy too.
