Just forty minutes from, my husband, our friends, and I chose the inn for a birthday weekend getaway, and from the moment we arrived, it felt as though we had stepped into a storybook village hidden in the Carolina countryside. Fearrington has the rare quality of feeling like a town within a town: intimate, charming, and thoughtfully preserved. Despite a bustling arrival moment, the warmth of the welcome immediately softened everything. The front desk associate greeted us graciously, answered every question with care, and even personally guided us to our cottage after helping my husband navigate charging options for our car. We stayed in the Grand Suite, and it was nothing short of enchanting. The interiors felt timeless in the way only truly refined spaces do traditional without feeling heavy, luxurious without trying too hard. In the sitting room, a handwritten birthday note and a plate of the inn's beautifully hand-painted chocolates awaited me, a gesture so personal and thoughtful it immediately set the tone for the weekend. The bedroom itself felt regal, anchored by an elevated, bespoke headboard that gave the room a quiet grandeur. But it was the bathroom that completely stole my heart. Black and white, classic and serene, it seemed to whisper relaxation. The heated towel rack enthusiastically recommended by the front desk quickly became one of those small luxuries you suddenly cannot imagine living without. And then there was the bath. Deep, jet-filled, and accompanied by the inn's soothing bath salts, it became the perfect ending to the evening. Every detail at Fearrington seems designed to slow you down in the most intentional way. After settling in, we wandered through the property's shops and gathering spaces, where every interaction felt genuinely warm. The boutiques were beautifully curated, filled with surprisingly well-priced treasures that made it dangerously easy to linger. Everywhere we went, someone gently reminded us to "try the salted butter," advice we happily followed over cocktails and dinner later that evening at the restaurant. The sleep itself was restorative in the truest sense. The bed was impossibly comfortable, the cottage wonderfully quiet, and the entire experience carried that elusive feeling of being deeply cared for. What makes Fearrington so special is that it does not impose a singular aesthetic or experience upon you. Whether your tastes lean classic, modern, romantic, or understated, there is a corner of beauty waiting to meet you there. It is refined without pretension, luxurious without excess, and deeply rooted in hospitality. An unforgettable stay and exactly the sort of place that reminds you how meaningful thoughtful travel can be.

On the wedding day, they even steamed my dress as a surprise, which I really appreciated. Our wedding coordinator was organized and incredibly helpful in managing the timeline, making sure everything ran smoothly and on schedule. One thing to note is that the venue is fairly strict about outside vendors not on their preferred list. Thankfully, our photographer already had liability insurance, but there were a few extra personal touches we had to forgo due to these guidelines. The complimentary suite included in our package was a highlight--spacious, beautifully designed, and perfect for getting ready with friends and family. The bed was very comfortable, though the multi-head shower took some getting used to. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches: handwritten notes, complimentary champagne and chocolates at check-in, and another bottle of champagne along with a small piece from the Michael Aram Anemone collection on our wedding night--such a special gesture. Food for both the cocktail hour and reception met our expectations, and many of our guests had great things to say about the quality and hospitality. Our signature cocktails--the Old Fashioned and espresso martini--were solid and well-made. Overall, they truly took great care of us and helped make our wedding day feel special.

After my spa visit I headed to the pool and was seated in a spot with an umbrella, as requested. Unfortunately, the umbrella was broken and I had to move myself to a spot with a functioning umbrella. Next, we ordered drinks, which we both were enjoying until the staff walked by and swiped up my unfinished drink. He didn't ask if I wanted anything, just silently took it and kept moving. My husband decided to keep his drink in hand for the rest of his, and when he was done the guy drove by and snatched his up. He didn't stop to ask if we needed anything else. I was planning to have drinks and lunch by the pool, but after that moment I decided I was done with the Umstead pool and left.

Cute in a has a jar of (delicious) cookies at the check in desk at all times. Besides being so cute it's located perfectly right in UNCs campus and just blocks from Franklin street. We had a car since we were making our way thru North Carolina and needed to drive to Duke a few times, but if you're visiting UNC you could probably get away without a car. The room itself was cute (of course) and clean. My only dislikes was that the tv didn't have Netflix so my daughter and I couldn't watch a movie together, but my phone sufficed. The walls were also a little thin and we had some noisy neighbors. We enjoyed the brunch buffet before checking out on Sunday and it was delicious. Id I was bag in the triangle area I'd definitely stay here again!

The hotel is now a Hyatt property and the renovations added modern touches to the sleeping rooms and lobby and restaurant. The rooms come equipped with a mini fridge, robes, a lovely Nespresso machine, and very comfortable bed. We had a delicious dinner at Crossroads and also a fantastic brunch buffet on Sunday morning. The hotel is known as a wedding venue so it is a great place to host rehearsal dinners and weddings and have the guests stay overnight. You are within walking distance of the campus and right by Franklin street. Thank you for making our staycation so fabulous!

I am a Diamond member and he is Silver, but our status didn't seem to make any difference in the quality of the stay or how our concerns were handled. The AC never kept the room cool, even running continuously, and by the second night it was so hot we chose to leave early rather than try switching rooms. The mattress was completely worn out, the curtains were literally falling down, and despite requesting extra pillows, none were provided. Overall, the room felt like a typical college‑area hotel that's been heavily used and not properly maintained. On the positive side, breakfast was good, and the location is very convenient if you need to be close to the university or medical center. However, when we informed management at 1 p.m. that we were leaving early due to all of these issues, we were told there would be no refund or even a discount for the second night. Given the uncomfortable room temperature, poor maintenance, lack of responsiveness, and the fact that loyalty status did not seem to matter, I would rate this stay 2.5 stars at best and would not recommend this hotel unless proximity to the university is your absolute top priority and you're willing to overlook comfort.

Our room was reasonably comfortable, but like most of the common area, felt dated and rundown. I didn't mind paying a charge to parking in the adjacent deck, but couldn't figure out why the spaces for overnight guests were relegated to the upper levels. The hotel is only about a 10-minute stroll from the heart of Franklin St., with downtown Carrboro about the same distance in the other direction. And the Bru's Public House just off the lobby serves up tasty pub grub alongside a wide selection of craft beers on tap. No, this isn't one of the better hotels I've stayed at in the Triangle, but count yourself lucky if you can snag a room here on game day or commencement weekend. The location makes it tough to beat.

As I've done most of the afternoon teas available in the Triangle area, I am not branching out to the Triad. Afternoon tea at O Henry came highly recommended to me by people I know in real life and rightfully so! Afternoon tea at O Henry is served in the lobby of the hotel when you first walk in. They have clusters of seating all over, and they do get booked out so be sure to make your reservation ahead of time. For the tea, they have a few different tiers but I've always opted for the full O. Henry Tea. It's still only $22 which is such an accessible price point as I'm used to afternoon teas costing easily double! It's a hearty and proper tea, and they will refill your pot too. I can't wrap up the review without commenting on the excellent service. Every time I've come for the afternoon tea, I am impressed by the warm welcome and attentive service by all of the staff I interact with. This afternoon tea is one I will repeat time and time again!

Speaking of cocktails, the Green Valley Grill is attached which is also a top recommendation. After I left, I thought I had left my most cherished necklace. They immediately sent management to our room for a thorough check. I travel every month and all over the world and I have to say that the level of service we received at the O'Henry is one of the best. The hotel has its own unique, old-world vibe. Heavy woods, dark colors yet charming. They do "teas" in the lobby and the seating areas both inside and outside are cozy and comfortable with classical music so you find people all around reading books and enjoying being together. I also like the way they converted a nook in the bathroom for a bench with drawers and that there was a sink inside and outside the bathroom making it easier for multiple people to get ready. If in Greensboro and wanting to go back in time for a relaxing stay, try the O'Henry.
