Being that this is a beauty school, do be open minded that you are test subjects for the next Paul Mitchell or pleasure palms. You just have to cross your fingers that you aren't their first test subjects and you pray that they know exactly what they are doing. The beauty of being test subject at a school is that the service(haircuts, massages, etc) you want is fairly cheap so you aren't really being scam for your money. What I got at Rosemead Beauty School is a facial. Yes, you read that right! I got a facial and I have say it was the most relaxing and cleansing experience I have ever tried. For only $16, they rub and scrub and clean your my face so good that your face shines. And an added bonus for getting a facial was I got a massage while the mask was waiting to dry so they can peel all the nasty gunk that built up on my face. It was definitely a rejuvenating experience and would definitely come back again for a facial. Overall, I rank this place 4/5 stars because you are taking a risk from being test subjects for students. It's definitely not a 5 star because you have to understand students do make mistake so do be mindful. read more

Terrible people work here and the owner, our car broke down in front their parking lot and had to park in the lot to be safe while waiting for tow truck, the security guard and owner kept harassing us to leave. We kept explaining the car doesn't move, we are calling AAA, security guard said we parked there 2 days, my goodness, what a liar! Owner asked us questions like why picked their parking lot, not next door, why we were driving on Valley, unbelievable! AAA called police for us, luckily tow truck got there quickly after we somehow got the car on street. What a horrible ordeal! read more

The question I ask myself is "how can you mess up a trim?"Today was the day I literally asked myself that. I came in looking just for a small trim because I was going to see a friend that I have not seen for awhile. The man in the front was nice and told me he will find someone ASAP to cut my hair. I waited for around 5 minutes to get a seat. Then one of the trainees cut my hair. I told him I wanted naked sides and just a small trim on the top because I still had my hair dyed silver still and thinking of asking for a small trim should not be bad right? I told him to do not cut off the silver. I then let him cut. At first what seemed promising in the beginning took a toll on me in the end. I was waiting for the haircut to be done, however the man kept cutting and cutting and I was thinking in my head "is he cutting a lot?" However, He was blocking the mirror so I could not tell. Normally I feel they would think to ask if you want to keep your hair color, however he kept cutting and cutting. I told him as he cut around 50 percent of my silver off, I told him to stop cutting my silver, he then said okay. As I let go of the moment, I noticed more and more of my silver was cut off... For people who not know about the process of getting silver. It is definitely a long process and that you have to get your hair light and damaged to achieve that color. I was so mad that I told him to stop cutting. The guy of course did not apologize. I was so mad I did not bother to tip honestly. I went to the guy who talked to me in the beginning, that if it is possible to get my hair rebleached because the man cutting my hair literally left majority of my silver cut off. The man then told me that "it looks good on you, you have fine hair like mine. I like it". Honestly that did not help me. I then told him "I am very mad and frustrated". He said okay and asked the lady in the front to see who could bleach my hair and the charge. They then told me it would be $13 and that they could not get my hair silver. I then was very mad and just went on my way. I get people are training here do not get me wrong. However, When someone tells you not to keep cutting their hair, that is when you stop and look. I had the worst experience, I called before showing up, a man answered and I asked if they offered services because I needed a new full set, he said they offered mani pedi and full set $11 I said great I'll stop by in 20 minutes (my drive there). Once I arrived I entered facility looked at the price list and was ready to do a few different things, an older woman approached me and asked what I needed with a rude demeanor, I said I called in and asked about getting a full set, she said they don't offer that only gel manicure, to which I responded I called and was told different but okay no problem I'll do the manicure instead, do you remove acrylics? She then said no, I just grabbed my things and left disappointed. I find it rare that they don't offer acrylic removal but can soak off gel right? You get what you pay for right? I came here one day because I felt like trying out something "new". Being a guy with a pretty simple haircut, I decided to try out this beauty school. When you walk through the door, you actually have to pay for your haircut before you "get your haircut" at the front desk. It was $5 for the haircut and the shampoo ($3 if you only want the haircut). The experience was a bit nerve wrecking. All the haircuts are done by students, and "supervised" by the instructors. All the students here pretty much don't understand English, and I believe speak either Mandarin or Vietnamese. My haircut took over an hour and maybe close to two hours. It was so extremely slow, that I almost wanted to ask for the hair clipper and to just do it myself. I was fed up to the point that I didn't even care how it looked anymore, and just wanted to go home. Just some words of advice if you decide to come here: EXPECT slow service (1-2 hours for even the simplest cuts) DON'T expect a quality haircut With that said, if you're on a budget - attempt to cut your own hair you'll probably do a better job. read more

I came here with my uncle because he wanted a haircut. He told me the place does nails, so I wanted to give it a shot for a beauty school. I came at 4PM and told the front desk lady I wanted to get a French manicure and pedicure for their listing price at $11.50. The menu said that all nails can be done before 5PM. The front desk lady told me that it wasn't possible because last call was at 3:30PM when the sign clearly stated before 5PM. I had a good experience, just came for a hair color, called before coming in, no appointment needed and when I got there I didn't even have to wait. Came around 2 on a Friday and I was seated down and ready to go, the Cuban lady with the short hair took real good care of me; was gentle to my unwashed tangly hair, very detailed in her work, and gave me a relaxing head massage when washing. I do not understand why the school let the students go back to school to start the class in the mid of Nov and the class last for 4 days only, now the school just give all the students a notice in this afternoon, said no need to come to the class, the school is closed! Everyone knows there is Covid 19 pandemic, and it's not easy for the students rent a apartment and came back from the out of the states to join the class, students have their plans, too. When you say open, everyone must come and join the class, when you say close everyone has to go back home! Please respects all the students, too! They are not rich people, they have their schedules, too! I understand when the government asked the school to close, the school has to close, but the school is the one make decision to reopen! Apparently the winter time is outbreaking again, why you let all the students to go to the class? no wifi for student, no practice questions given, unless you ask many times or you have good friends who has good relationship with the instructor. The school also does not provide enough material and equipts for the class, as opposed to what they promised when signed up. i think they just want to cut down cost, and the result of it is, students have to go buy supplies each day after school. I called first thing in the morning and asked how much it would cost for a wash and blow dry. The lady over the phone told me it would be $7. That sounded about right since it is what I get charged at the other school I normally go to. When I get there, the instructor tells me that their students don't do blowouts, since they are students. So she tells me that since I have a lot of hair they would have to use a flat iron...$25 and that's with a discount! Sorry, that's way too much to have students wash and flat iron my hair. That would be pretty close to what I would pay at a few local blow dry bars. I have paid $25 during the week and it came with a glass of white wine, head massage and nice ambiance. I didn't get layers just a SHORTER hair cut and was really dissapointed... No Tip! My experience from being a student here was also bad... The owner of the school is biased... racist.. I've hear hispanic and vietnamese people talk about this lady in a BAD way... The only teachers I liked at this school was Mrs.Rose... and the two only hispanic teachers... there was this other teacher on the floor I liked but I forgot her name but she was the sweetest thing :) I think she was chinese.... on the rarest of occasions i remember to give my big hair which rivals medusa's a trim and a style. the two times that i went i was really satisfied. two of the best haircuts ive ever gotten, sure it was also two of the most time consuming haircuts that ive ever had. the students consulted their senseis and carefully carried out their craft. both times was exactly what ive wanted. minus one star because these are students and they do mess up. If you want come here for school, i dont recommend this school. but it is cheaper then the other big name places. Well I'm a student here, and the teachers on the floor are not that great. All the teachers have different techniques and styles. And the teachers that teach in the little class rooms seem to know more and are better stylists then the ones on the floor. Some of the students that's on the floor are pretty good, better then the teachers on the floor I think. I have gotten hair cuts plenty of times to know who's good and not. It's a very good school if you are looking towards this type of career field, such as an Esthetician. One of the good things about this school, was that they offered a wide range of career choices and opportunities. The teacher Ms. Joann who has a class during the evening, is very fun and easygoing. At first I came into this class completely unaware and unsure if this was right for me. A few weeks into Ms. Joann's class, i ended up enjoying Ms. Joann's lesson; teaching us the basics and foundations on how to give proper facials and etc. She is a phenomenal teacher. I've learned a lot in her class. I give this class a two thumbs up! I really love this class. I highly recommend whoever is interested in this field to take these classes. read more

The SO got a haircut (male) here for only $5. It was pretty busy but of course why not since the prices are so low. All other services are also very cheap (like $3 manicures) but know that students are the ones doing the service so it may take a longer time. Rosemead Beauty School has been by far my worst customer service and beauty school experience. If I could give this place negative stars I would- after my perm here my hair was so terribly damaged I got stares everywhere I went until I cut it all off. When I first sat down the supervising teacher, (i regret not remembering his name) who was short, skinny, possibly Latino with tan skin and glasses, came over to check out my hair quality, he asked me if I had dyed it before. I told him yes and that I had kept my entire head cherry red for many months and dyed the black over it. He nodded absently and looked at a picture of what I wanted before disappearing to check on someone else. The student who worked on me was uncommunicative and asked me no questions other than for a picture of what I wanted. She expressed to her classmate in Chinese that she was unsure of what size roller her teacher wanted her to use on my hair, luckily, though my understanding of Chinese is minimal, my mom (who was getting her hair dyed) is fluent and asked her to clarify with her instructor before starting. This should have been my first clue that she had no idea what she was doing. Her teacher came over and rolled my hair tightly into a curler to demonstrate what the student should do and left. The girl started rolling my hair VERY LOOSELY into curlers and asked me if I had dyed my hair before as well, I told her the same thing I told her teacher, that I had kept it cherry red for months. She kept missing little chunks of my hair when she was rolling it into the curlers and some hair just started falling out of the curlers because of how loose they were, I had to point them out in order for her to even notice. I was very anxious during the entire process but put my trust in her teacher who checked in here and there and nodded approvingly. I just thought to myself, what do I know? They're the professionals let them work. Once the curls were taken out and my hair was "styled" the final product was horrendous. NOT ONLY were the curls the OPPOSITE of what I asked for- small and tight when I wanted big and wavy- but there were VERY noticeable chunks of STRAIGHT HAIR all over my head! They tried to send me home like that!!! When I complained the teacher tried to tell me that it was my fault, that my hair texture was just so straight it wouldn't take in the curl and that they hadn't done anything wrong. I was so livid I had to step outside and my mom was hungry so we stopped across the street for food. At lunch when my hair dried I tried to put it up and some ends fell off into my hand- my hair was actually breaking it was so damaged. So I went back in to ask for a refund and to speak to the principal of the school. I was extremely upset, my hair was a mess and damaged beyond saving, and nobody had breathed a word of apology to me. I was denied my refund even though they all acknowledged that he had made a mistake and my hair was incredibly damaged, they proposed I come in later that week so they could try to perm the bits of my hair that were straight. Reperm my ruined hair? Riiiiight. I took my business elsewhere and made an out of town trip to my hairstylist in SF, who told me that the reason my hair was beyond saving was that you cannot perm bleached hair. Seems like something a beauty school student, teacher, and principle ought to know. The worst part is that the student who did my perm had almost completed her 1600 hours and was almost on her way out of school. She was probably one of the most experienced students who could have worked on me! This school is a joke, they don't care about their customers and most importantly they don't know hair. read more

I went in and asked for a trim and to get a "V-shape" cut at the end of my hair. My hair was fairly long so I told the lady that was assigned to cut my hair about 1/2 -1 inch shorter just to get rid of my split ends. The lady that was cutting my hair didn't know what she was doing and cut about 4 inches of my hair. Not only did she cut off 4 inches, but she messed up my hair and was impatient when another student was fixing my hair was teaching her how to make up for what she did. Also, the ends of my hair was cut straight across and not the "V-shape" that I asked for. I understand that my hair was being cut by a student, but cutting off 4 inches of my hair is not considered a trim in any way. I will NEVER be going back. read more

I've been here many times. I have had both my hair cut and colored...I go there knowing that a Student will be doing the work with supervision from Instructors. I have never had an unreasonably bad experience.
