I have experienced the nail technicians, and the hair professionals as well. We were thinking about hair today as I dyed mine, and I just wanted to mention roses salon to anybody looking for their nails or hair, as they have very dedicated/ independent workers, and with their own business, as well as a very clean salon. Fans and nice guests to chat with and local spots nearby residential and the beach side nearby. My nail technician does not work there anymore, but she was amazing, and if she is not there today, I have seen the work that other nail technicians have done, while perfect manicures gel or not, and my acrylics and gel sets perfect with very happy clients around. I really also love all the hair styles coming out of this place, and especially the short hairdos. My hair lady was amazing and willing to pick up hair for you, but also, she's allowing you to bring yours to add for you, and for a very inexpensive price, she will put it in. I know they all work differently, but I was very happy with the price leaving room for a happy tip, also very happy for my hair that lasted pretty long and looked very natural with the color she recommended. The only competition I met in the neighborhood does not use any electric nail files and is using copper bowls with old-school, pedicures and manicures... serving margaritas, or a small wine... Mia made herself available for a pedicure and it was one of the best I've ever had. Mia was courteous, professional and took her time to make me feel relaxed and bringing my feet (after days walking on the beach) back to attractive! The hair color and foil by Rose was amazing! I don't know how she knew the exact color (most time hair color looks brassy the first few times) to use or the number, color and placement of foils to use to get this perfect blond color and highlight! I enjoyed Roses. They are the only reasonably-priced nail salon in Coronado. Approximately, 2 days before my wedding, I called for an appointment. Most places in Coronado were charging just as much as my hotel, and none of them did gel or nail wraps (for a broken nail), so it wasn't really worth it for me to leave ... until I called Roses. They were able to give me a later appointment that day. They charged a reasonable price. they were able to do gel and a nail wrap for my broken nail. Also, they do not charge extra for french manicures. It's a no frills salon, so don't expect fancy spa chairs. It's just a cheap little bucket of water and an uncomfortable office chair. For the price, it was fine. If I need a massage that badly, I can go somewhere else... or make a separate appointment at Roses. They have a masseuse. They also do hair and makeup in addition to nails. P.S. My nails still look great nearly 3 weeks later. They lasted all the way through my wedding and honeymoon, which is awesome! read more

I am EXTREMELY anal about my hair because I love it long but i also tend to apply a lot of heat to it. So when i go in for a trim, she always knows what she's doing to salvage my split ends but not turn my long hair into a short bob. A few months ago I got a pixie cut from a great salon in Arizona, but it had since grown out so I went to Roses the Salon to get "a trim...take the bulk out of the back". Instead Vanessa misunderstood what I wanted, and hacked my hair to look like a man's cut - she ended up giving me a modified high 'n tight. I told her I didn't want it to look like a dude's, and just trim it. I even showed her pictures from my initial cut in Arizona. I'm afraid of what it would have looked like if I hadn't told her to stop cutting & leave the rest of the length. I'm so upset with the less than 1" on my left side, the stair-step failed blend, the lack of a "sleek & sexy" cut, and the lack of versatility with what I now have. LUCKILY for me my hair grows quickly. They were WONDERFUL though when I called the next day to let them know how upset I was with my haircut. I spoke with Tracie, who offered me a deep conditioning to make up for my disppoinment. When I went in to see Tracie later that day she worked with me to clean up the blending. As my hair grew out she kept up with my trims to help everything grow evenly into a nice feminine cut. TRACIE IS FABULOUS! Just the experience I was expecting at first, and now I won't trust anyone else with cutting my short hair. She knows how to take her time with consultation to fully understand what I want - giving me the edgy, feminine, pixie cut that I love! read more

Jaclyn is amazing! The day before my appointment she did a text consultation and was great with communication and answering any questions I had. I was nervous going in because I had a lot of previous work done in my hair that I knew would be difficult to work and color over. However, Jaclyn explained what she was doing as she was doing it so I felt comfortable knowing what was going on and the end result was better than I could've imagined. I have mixed feelings about this place. First off, it is very small, and has at least 7 workstations - 4 pedicure and 3 (possibly 4) hairdressing. So, it's crowded. The staff all like each other, which is great -- but it also means they're yelling -- cheerfully -- at each other constantly. If you're looking for something quiet and relaxing, this is not the place to go. My pedicurist, Mai Lam, was technically o.k. -- but she kept up a non-stop conversation, in Vietnamese, with Miss Kim, who had the workstation next to her -- going so far as to barely look at me while doing my pedicure. When someone is clipping around your toenails with a sharp instrument, you'd like them to Pay Attention to your feet, and not to what the pedicurist in the next booth is saying. She and Miss Kim talked on and on, for 40 minutes, until another client showed up. At one point, while Mai was buffing my nails with an emery board, she turned head and shoulders completely around to start talking to the pedicurist behind her -- and ended up buffing / scraping the skin on my toes (below the nails) instead. Ouch. I had to reach out and grab her, just to get her attention, and to keep her from sanding my toes any further. At the end, she did the old "do you need change from this?" when I gave her two twenties for a $35 charge. I hate that -- but most aestheticians (and waiters, for that matter) do it. I said no, and left. I went here on Amy B's recommendation, from almost a year ago (6/20/2010). I won't be back. I have been to other places where they never or barely talked to me while getting my hair cut. She asked what I wanted and I explained that I wanted a new cut and that my husband was coming home soon and she took what I said and did an excellent job. Mai Lam at Roses gives the best pedicure ever! The pedicure comes with a leg and foot massage, which is so relaxing. Also, I am very picky about where to go for a pedicure when it comes to cleanliness. Roses Salon is extremely clean and the pedicures are given in individual foot baths which have a plastic lining in them, changed out between clients. I highly recommend Mai, who does a wonderful job and is always smiling! read more

I desperately needed my hair done and found roses the salon on yelp! I am the type of woman who tends to have hair issues. I am never satisfied unless it is long and unruly! Recently, I combed out dreadlocks and my hair is quite damaged. I knew I needed it cut so that new growth could occur. I was terrified that my hair would be too short and I wouldn't like it. I had a consultation with Marci, the owner. She walked me through the process and calmed my nerves. I threw a curve ball and decided not only did I want my hair cut, but I wanted my almost black hair...purple! She didn't flinch! She smiled and said that would be totally doable and she would use amazing products to build up my hair while we were taking the color down. I scheduled my appointment and drove across the bridge to lovely Coronado. Marci and a couple of other stylists: Vanessa and Cara, got to work on lightening my hair. After lightened, the purple was added and the cut occurred!!!! I loved how she kept it as long as possible and it looks healthier than it has ever looked!!! I'm a little disappointed because I paid way more than what I would have at a regular nail salon and received uneven and crooked nails the lady was very nice but in a big rush to finish my nails. I went here the day before 4th of July. I called that morning and was happy to hear that they were able to get me in that day (I was lucky, they had a 1100 appt). My stylist was Jaime who was very sweet and listened to what I wanted. She gave me a very good scalp massage with the shampoo and I am happy with my cut. I will be back! Prices are reasonable, my cut and wash was $45 and I have long hair. The salon is not small like other reviewers said (I think they are referring to Sanctuary Salon and Day Spa down the street). This place had well over 10 hair stylists and my gal had a private room in the back. It looks small from the street but once you go in it's super trendy and opens up to a whole other room in the back. I liked it because everyone seems young and cool. My experience with the other place I mentioned down the street, they seemed kinda snobby. The vibe here was way better! read more

My pedi included about a twenty minute massage of my feet and legs, not like the 30 second massages they'll jipp you with at other places.
