Great find on our road trip.... Got here for breakfast... but lunch looks amazing as well. Everything we ordered was so tasty. Eggs cooked perfectly- with potatoes cubed.... Which we love. Vanilla latte tasted like a warm cozy toasty filled marshmallow day. The pb caramel crunch latte was a delicious treat with breakfast. All around - they care about what is being put in the plate. You really need to have time and patience to wait. The food is great and the menu is diverse but expect at least 40 minutes from door to food, or that is at least our experience in the four times we've been. It's a nice neighborhood joint and we enjoy patronizing when we have the time. Ingredients are fresh and the taste is as well. Outdoor seating available when the weather is nice. read more

This is the first time I've been here for probably four years. We've moved but were in the area for the day so thought I'd give it a try. They have a nice menu and the prices are certainly affordable but that said, the service was so slow that we waited for over 30 minutes after we ordered to get our sandwiches and noticed there were others who had been waiting that long to even order. Only one server and one person in the kitchen apparently isn't enough and I felt badly for the server who not only had to do the serving but make coffee drinks and bus tables. When we asked where our lunch order was she was very apologetic and said they were exceptionally busy but bad service is bad service. That said, the sandwiches when they finally arrived were very tasty. I had a Brie, tomato, onion and basil on a toasted baguette. You had your choice of home made chips or coleslaw which I chose and it was very good. My friend had the chicken pesto sandwich with chips also toasted. The sandwiches were very good but no way should it have taken that long to make them. They do have specials as well as appetizers and larger plates and all were certainly affordable. read more

Comfort food is a must. I was in dire need of something. I found this cafe and decided to give it a try. Quaint and definitely a neighborhood staple. Small and cute, but I hate that word. We waited a bit to be seated only later to find out they had several call outs, but they never used that as an excuse. Once seated Mack was amazingly attentive despite being extremely busy and only her 3rd day on the job. The chicken pot pie was the reason I came and believe me it did not disappoint. It was amazing, crispy crust and full of fresh potatoes, chicken and veggies. I was in heaven. My only small complaint was their beer selection and the bartender called in sick so that was an issue. All in all my review should be at least 4.5 stars but it won't allow me to do that. The chicken pot pie was outstanding and definitely more than I could eat. This place is so adorable, inside you get this somewhat vintage like feel, kinda almost feels like visiting at grandmas house - feels inviting and has its own lil charm. I had their cranberry pear Salad with chicken and this was such a simple salad but just tasted so amazing. All of the ingredients were very fresh and perfect in proportions. The salad dressing (which I'm still trying to figure out if it's house made.?) tied everything together. The service wasn't too bad either. I tried to recreate this salsa at home but just couldn't get it close enough. I can't wait to come here again for this dang salad! read more

We stopped here while visiting family and had a delicious breakfast! The menu has classic favorites but also creative unique dishes like a breakfast burrito smothered with sausage gravy. I had the skillet and it was tasty and the right amount. Service was excellent! They also have great outdoor seating. read more

We were there for lunch today and wow it was so bad!! First thing they tell us is that they have no lettuce at 12:00 Noon. We waited 1.5 hours for our food to get to table. Right before food came they came out to tell us that their bag of shrimp is spoiled and they don't want to put it in the jambalaya. Really?? You just realized you had spoiled shrimp when we've been waiting this long? They said they could put a chicken kabob in it. They literally brought out what looked like a bowl of brown gravy with a chicken kabob thrown on top. No veggies and a couple pieces of sausage. The sandwiches came out on salad plates with a couple chips. None of the food was good. They didn't even discount the "jambalaya" for having no shrimp. Nobody came out to apologize or keep us updated on our food. Service was terrible. This place is going out of business soon if they don't make some changes! read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting the area and decided to stop by this café after the zoo. Based on the great reviews, we expected a nice lunch spot -- unfortunately, we were really disappointed. Service was slow and inattentive from the start. Our waitress took our order and then disappeared. We waited over 45 minutes for our food -- two French dip sandwiches with chips. When the food finally arrived, the sandwiches had decent flavor but were small, lukewarm, and clearly not fresh out of the kitchen. What made things worse was the lack of attention -- no drink refills, no check-ins, and no updates while we waited. At one point, my boyfriend got up to ask about our food, and only then did the waitress suddenly bring it out, as if it had been sitting there for a while. We really wanted to like this place, but between the poor service, slow timing, and mediocre food, it just wasn't worth it. Hopefully, management can improve the staff attentiveness and kitchen coordination because the atmosphere had potential. read more

Had a nice lunch in this cute cafe. It's located in a quiet neighborhood with a small lot and ample street parking. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday afternoon and it seemed everyone knew each other and were old friends. Went to Rosewood Cafe for the first time for a girls lunch. We meet every Friday for the last 15 years. We have been talking about trying this cute little cafe for years. Well we finally did yesterday and we were not disappointed. The salmon chowder and chicken & grape salad was delicious and though they were absolutely packed inside we still got amazing service. We found out from our server Alisha who was just a joy, that they now are open for breakfast. Definitely coming back. We arrived around 11:40 on Friday, thinking we would be ahead of the lunch rush. We were, but it did not help our time spent waiting for food. It was not terribly busy and we were seated promptly and given water and menus. We eventually had to flag our waitress down to place our order. She appeared to be working solo and was overwhelmed. We waited a very long time for our food. It seemed that tables near us waited quite a while also. The food, when it arrived, was underwhelming. The small plates were salad size, even though we had ordered entrees. The blackened salmon Caesar was alright but the spice crust had to be scraped off the salmon to be edible. The salad below was tiny and the greens did not look to be the freshest. Highly disappointing. I had a salad with soft boiled eggs, bacon bits and roasted potatoes. The eggs were soft boiled but cold, the potatoes roasted but cold and the salad greens, again, not fresh and springy. I felt it was a miss. I do love a soft boiled egg, but not cold. They seemed kind of gooshy (not in a good way) and not flavorful. There was no accompanying roll or toast to help with the textural issues. The restaurant was overwhelmingly loud. We tried to converse on our extremely long wait but could barely understand each other over the other diners. We both had a headache by the time we left and were overjoyed to be outside on our quiet walk back home. We jointly decided to strike RoseWood Cafe off our list of restaurants. read more

The food has always been good, but the cafe has been struggling in the last year or so. The last time I went for lunch, they only had one poor waitress for the entire place and she was expected to be the hostess and bus the tables as well. I felt bad for her and wondered why they couldn't have another person helping out. I know restaurant margins are slim but having more staff would turn tables faster and mean more business, more revenue, and happier repeat customers. Great place for lunch around the Proctor neighborhood. At this time they open at 11:30 so it's really more of a lunch than a brunch place. Might want to call ahead before you go - they're having some serious staffing issues and are experiencing a difficult time running the place so what's listed online isn't necessarily correct. I got there right as they were unlocking the door and it wasn't long before several other tables were also full - definitely a popular place! Mostly clean with friendly service, they have a very traditional American café menu. I opted to keep it simple and get a caprese sandwich with slaw on the side. Slaw had way too much dressing for me taste, but overall it was pretty good. Sandwich was made well and the ingredients were spread out nicely so I got a little bit of everything in every bite. I've been a Rosewood patron for a decade now. I am disappointed in changes introduced under new ownership. First, the entree menu has been cut down to just four dishes. What happened to the variety? The whole point of Rosewood was you and your family didn't have to decide on which restaurant to go to because you could have your favorite at Rosewood. Now, it's either salad, sandwich, watery oily not-creamy pot pie, fish, or gumbo...if they remembered to make it. I get it. Times change. New owners, new vision. Business decisions had to be made. It's just unfortunate that patrons like me are on the losing side of those decisions. I'll come back next year to see how they're doing. For now, there are half a dozen other options near by that I will check out. One last thing: the decor hasn't changed. It was ALWAYS cute, homey, and historic. Thank the old owners for that. I don't see what the new owners did except move the specials menu to a new wall. read more
