First visit and a wonderful experience. We arrived about an hour after they opened mid week. We were greeted warmly as we walked into the cozy restaurant that has a warm relaxing neighborhood spot vibe. I branched out and went with a "non traditional" pizza of Fig & Prosciutto and my companion got the meat lovers. Pizza is highly subjective but this was perfection. Crust wasn't too hard or soft. Toppings were fresh, flavorful and filling without being heavy. One can be enough for two people but we wanted leftovers. I am looking forward to my next visit. read more

I LOVE The Crafty Beaver! We stopped in the other night for a beer. I had a pumpkin ale, which was super tasty. The guy working there, possibly the owner, was super nice! Found this little gem on a Thursday run with my running group. Stopped in afterwards and had the pear, arugula, goat cheese, and hot honey pizza. Wonderful pizza with all ingredients well balanced, albeit a bit messy. Was told by the bartender afterwards that next time I could add meat ingredients too. So if you want to guild the lily just ask. The atmosphere was perfect for an intimate couple with soft lighting, quiet music, and dark colors. This would be a perfect cozy date spot (21+ only, so kid free zone). Plus, afterwards, there is gelato next door. read more

Loved my meal here so much that I added a stop on my Uber ride to drop my leftovers home before going back out to a bar lol. Small, quaint spot with about five tables and a small bar. Super cute interior decor, especially around Halloween time when I was here! But even better - the food. I ordered the Arugula Pear pizza (goat cheese, arugula, pear, & hot honey) and added bacon. This pizza was perfect. Albeit very messy to eat, the taste was spot on. I even enjoyed leftovers heated up in the oven as a late night snack, but fresh was really something else. The Crafty Beaver Bar was on our list to try for a little while now. It is right next to a gelato shop we really like going to and that is how we first became aware of it. We had to do some errands and coming here for supper last night to conclude our journey out proved to be a great idea. They have lots of wine and beer options. Some of the beer is on tap while others are in bottles or cans. They also had some root beer I wasn't previously familiar with so I got that as well as a beer. The food here is really good! We had roasted nuts as a starter, almonds to be exact and they were very good! The pizza we split was one with pears, hot honey, arugula and goat cheese. Not that it needs it but I put a dash of red pepper flakes and parmesan cheese on it and it was so good! Not super greasy either as far as pizza goes... very little in fact which I appreciated because I definitely got the impression I was eating something a little bit more healthier than the regular run of the mill pizza. Our meal here was excellent and I'd love to come back and try out more of their pizza options. There was one involving figs that really caught me eye also! read more

What a great find in Tacoma! This is kind of away from the bar scene which I do appreciate because there's less of a hassle to find parking. It's right next door to a gelato place which if you have not tried yet, you must try cause their gelato are homemade and very good. But back to the Crafty Beaver Bar, it's a really small bar with bar seatings and about 4-5 booths/tables. Not quite a speakeasy vibe, but the decor and paintings are pretty cool and unique with beaver paintings and animal heads coming out of the walls. The food and drink menu is small but sometimes it's good to keep it small and sweet to the point you know what I mean :). Lol any who, pizza, that is what my friend and I came here to check out cause my friend is kind of a pizza snob. We got the meat lovers which is a decent size, proportion of sauce, meat and dough was just right and they do load it with the meats. This was easily the best pizza I've ever had. The owner/bartender was fantastic and did both the bartending and the cooking. Super personable guy. Wife and I had dinner here on a date night and it was great! We each had a cider and shared a Caesar salad & an arugula pear pizza. Everything was made well and tasted great. I added a prosciutto add on for my pizza and it paired very well with all of the flavors! I really enjoyed the hot honey on the pizza. Service was polite and attentive and I will be coming back. It's a cute date night spot as it's close to The Grande Cinema and there's a fantastic gelato spot right next door. A great combo for a wonderful night. read more

I was looking for a spot for dinner, and as I always do, I relied on Yelp for assistance. I came across the Crafty Beaver Bar and noted the 4.9 star rating. My sister and I decided to try. It's a newer pizza place, small but well decorated and cozy. They sport flat bread pizzas. We ordered what I would call the meat lovers pizza. Jeremy, the owner was in attendance and made our pizza. Mel was the server and very engaging and attentive. At that time we were the only patrons in the restaurant. I asked that the pizza be extra crispy and my wish was granted. The pizza was delicious and a really good size. Needless to say, these two old ladies required a to go box. If I had to give any suggestion for improvement, it would be the beer selection, not sure that just because I love a hazy IPA, it is room for improvement. I definitely suggest if you are in Tacoma that you give this place a try. read more

The ambiance is nice. The establishment was filled that night, but it never got too rowdy or loud for me to study in the corner. The pizza was a pleasant surprise and fantastic. Small place in bottom of apartment building. I had some reviews and was craving pizza so it was a good fit. We had 6 in our party and 2 of us had to borrow some chairs and sit at end of table. We are flexible, but if you aren't I wouldn't come with a party of 6. The owner was there alone and he had us plus a group of women sitting at the bar and 4 more at a table. Even being shorthanded he was excellent. Took our drink order quickly and delivered quickly. The pizza was excellent. The crust was not thin and not too thick. This has been on our list of places to try, but I kept shying away at the price of the pizzas. Honestly, most of Tacoma's pizza spots are overpriced and underwhelming. While The Crafty Beaver's pizza might still be on the pricier end, the execution of it did not disappoint, and dare I say it's the best we've found in Tacoma yet? We will definitely be going back! Epic pizza! We ordered the Meat Lovers and Arugula Pear. Both were excellent. Crust is moist, tasty and has just the right amount of crunch. Red sauce equally delicious. The Crafty Beaver definitely sets itself apart from other pizza places in Tacoma by offering unique presentation (sort of flatbread style) and really full, delectable flavors and tastes. Amazing "flatbread/artisan" style pizza. Every bite was delicious. We had the chicken bacon caesar and I highly recommend it. The owner and server/bartender were awesome. What was served was a barely discernible, thin, single layer of sliced, butternut squash, under a light, savory layer of meat sauce, smothered by an overwhelming amount of fairly bland, warm, gooey, cheddar and mozzarella cheese topped with more rich béchamel sauce and a small, decorative, portion of a tasty pesto. After trying to figure out how to gather and cut through the gelatinous mess, and eating about 4 bites, my partner and I both gave up and asked the waitress to remove it, which she promptly did. She asked if we would like dessert and we declined. She presented the bill, in full. We requested to speak with the manager and another pleasant, but unapologetic young woman appeared and said that we had been told it wasn't traditional lasagna, therefore, the owner wasn't inclined to reduce the charge. We responded that the issue wasn't the squash. The problem was the dish had no structure, and little flavor. It was all warm cheese, and overall, not very tasty, or interesting, for $72. Obviously, she didn't agree. So, bottom line, don't order the "lasagna." Whether or not you accept the attitude is your choice!

For my entrée, I went with the Seasonal Al Pastor Tamales, and wow... this dish is a true taste of the south. The ancho, guajillo, and achiote citrus slow‑roasted pork was rich and tender, perfectly balanced by cumin black beans, pickled pineapple, white onion, and serrano salsa. Every bite had depth, heat, and brightness. My wife ordered the Smoked Chicken Tomatillo Soup -- hominy, red bell peppers, carrots, onions, chipotle, buttermilk crema, cilantro, and blue corn tortilla strips. Food wonderful selection diverse and simple with something for everyone including kid menu. I chose between two breakfast selections going with my gut of course. The foragers omelette with biscuits. Not disappointed at all cleaned my plate. Everything was hot, nice good spices great flavor. Potatoes were nice with fruit and biscuit to accompany. Burgers were ordered with the clean up on aisle 12 as well. No one talked at first sure indication as we shared our finds. Wow we ate it all and all I have is a smile and one photo.
