My wife and I came here for late breakfast with brother and sisters. Although we grew up in Lakewood we had never been here. The interior is nice with lots of wall art and decorations. We sat in back room and it was as if the staff forgot about us. After about 15 minutes I had to go find someone to take our orders and bring us coffee. After another 10 to 15 minutes the waitress finally came to take our food orders.My wife ordered the large Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, with glass of OJ and hot tea. I ordered the Monster Breakfast with English Muffin. While waiting for our food the waitress never came back to refill our coffees and I had to wave her down for more. When our breakfasts came the portions were big, and food was tasty. My issue was the lack of service from staff. I had to flag the waitress down every fifteen minutes or so for more coffee. I managed to get 3 refills in the hour and a half we were there, which is unacceptable, especially since i told her on the 2nd refill to keep the coffee coming. this is the 2nd time i ordered to go food from them and it was wrong. They claim it's not them it's me. I ordered a skillet with cheddar and the reciept shows cheddar and it also shows no cheese. I chose the specific cheese. Then the site adds no cheese when the reciept clearly states the cheese type. The mgr josh is a dumb fuck. He spent the conversation trying to blame that on me when the same thing happened before. I ordered a meal with no spinach and get home with spinach on it. Call and tell him and he says there's no spinach with that meal. It clearly states it on the menu. He again tries to claim it's not their fault. He needs to fix their online ordering portal. Really nice staff here with nostalgic decor and furniture. I enjoyed their 'broasted chicken' which is hand fried chicken with delicious potato wedges 'jojos'. Chicken was juicy and meaty with delicious seasoning. My son ordered a meat specialty omelette with a hot cocoa (comes heavy on whipped cream and sprinkles). My husband ordered a meat heavy breakfast item as well. We thought their portions were generous paired with delicious sauces and freezer jams. Sunday brunch anywhere is going to be busy, so we lucked out in having a table for 7 at the morning time we did. Excellent little gem. I love places like this that have been around forever and don't need to go out of their way to impress you. This place is huge as well, there is an entire back dining area and bar. Service was great; greeted & seated right away. Got my lunch order in and food came out quick. I miss the down home diner food from back East; this place has it. Read through some of the previous reviews, and took a chance on this place, and so glad I did. People who dine out need to level set their expectations... otherwise they will constantly be disappointed. People in the restaurant business are some of the hardest working people I know, and they're human, just like us. Give everyone a little grace now and then. The food was good, the service and vibes were great. The portions were generous, and prices were reasonable. The place was clean, and there's plenty of parking. Can't ask for anything more. Very disappointed in $18.00 french dip. One piece of fatty roast beef on bun. Should of sent it back, but was ravenous hungry. Complained to waitress. The manager came by and was a bit smug. He offered me 20% off. Which was only $3. Next time I would prefer more meat. But unfortunately there won't be a next time. Too many other restaurants to go to. First visit today with a friend. We found a booth and the waitress was quick to assist us with drink & food order. We were both surprised at how soon it was brought to our table. We both ordered the House Club (she-fries, me-coleslaw) , and it was very good. It was a pretty full house when we got there and it was quite easy to hold a conversation. Even with the Vet (Steve) who sat across from us. Special thanks to the staff for allowing us to talk and take up our booth for 3.5 hours (!). When we walked in, there was only three tables that were occupied. There were two servers and one busser. We asked for another set of silverware because there were three of us that we never got. When our food was delivered, the wrong items were given. An example of this was corn, beef, hash, and eggs with no eggs. Another person ordered the burger dip with a side salad, instead they got french fries. The third individual ordered a hamburger, but their meal was delivered 10 minutes after we got our meals. We went to Bur's for breakfast this past Saturday. It was the first timne we'd been to Bur's in more than a year. While our food was fine, the service and noise level were not. We were there at 7:30am. Country music was playing in the dining room and Mexican music was playing in the kitchen. From where we were sitting, we heard both simultaneously. The two servers spent the entire time we ate our breakfast standing at the kitchen window, talking about a customer they had both encountered in the preceding days, using language not necessarily appropriate in a family-friendly restaurant at 7:30am. We heard the whole conversation, as did the customers sitting at the counter. No one asked whether we wanted more coffee or water or anything else for our breakfast. This is the old school breakfast that I love! The eggs Benedict was a perfect diner version, lots of sauce/not mayonnaisey! The hash browns were crispy, but not too greasy. The service was fast and friendly. The sausage gravy tasted exactly how it should! No surprises or disappointments. read more

Sorry late post. First I was reading some of the comments and was actually surprised from many of the negative reviews. Especially one saying that they were racists towards Asians. I'm Asian, my wife is Asian and well hat makes my kids Asian. My family has been coming to this establishment for over 10 years and we have NEVER experienced any kind of racism nor seen it done to others, but discrediting the one person who posted that. So anyways, my wife and I woke up last Saturday morning which was January 27th, and I looked at her and said Burs?! and she excitedly jumped out the bed and got ready without a word. We are foodies and after all these years we decided to start review the restaurants we visit! It was packed that morning but were able to find one of the last open booths that sat right in front of the cash register. We were greeted right away and given our menus and was told who our waitress was and was given water and asked if we wanted coffee in which we did, I'm form NY so of course I did! The coffee is perfect for my liking a bit strong to many but perfect for me, I've had really strong coffee in the Army, lol! Not to long after our waitress showed up and took our order. Both my wife and I ordered the Lobster omelet, which is one of our favorites! I went with the side of home fries and she went with the side of hash browns. We also asked for a side of SOS sauce which is really tasty there! The meal also came with 2 humungous pancakes! While waiting my wife and I was commenting on the atmosphere that morning it was busy and lively, people were smiling and enjoying each others company. Which put us in a really good mood! Our food came out in a good time and it looked delicious! The lobster meat omelet came with a type of yellow thick hollandaise sauce. my home fries were just how I like them fried and a little crispy with a nice dark golden brown look. The pancakes were large and fluffy, I'm not really a pancake eater, but more of a waffle guy because I like the crispiness of the waffle, but Burs pancakes I will eat! We were asked and given a total of 2 refills after the initial cup off coffee is about right with the amount of time we were there. Everything was cooked they way I liked it and they have always did. Between my wife and I, we need 1 to go box. I didn't finish my omelet and my wife a little of everything. They brought us the bill when they brought us our box and took the payment from us from the booth, normally I would just walk up to the cash register and pay. Maybe they think they can compete with Starbucks, NOT. Then, they now are charging a 3% surcharge if you use a credit card to pay your bill. way to go, good way to lose your customers. I won't bd back and I've shared this info with a group of women that had been going there occasionally for lunch, usually 10 to 15 of us. You just lost that business as well. I'm adding a second review in hopes of change. Burs is an iconic restaurant in Lakewood. I have been coming here for over 10 years. I know covid took it's toll on many establishments, some of which foreclosed. The service at Burs is outstanding. Sone of the friendliest staff I have ever met. The quality of the prepared food is horrible. I am sure they struggle with keeping qualified cooks - who they hired now are awful. Sadly, I won't return. I hope the owner realizes the value of qualified cooks and does whatever to employ them. read more

We have come here multiple times and enjoyed it. This time, though, our experience was bad enough that we will not be back. We host international students in our home and take them to restaurants so that they can interact with others and practice their English. We grabbed a table in the bar and pulled out our IDs. One student had a license and the other had his passport. The server "checked with a manager" to see if she could accept their IDs. When she came back, she said that she could not accept a non-US identification and she "CERTAINLY cannot accept a passport..." A passport requires more documentation to get than a license (no matter what country a person is from). I have worked in the restaurant industry and gone through liquor control licensing. I *know* that there is a guidebook that every bar is required to have on hand that references IDs from the US and countries around the world. We had to leave either because the employees at Burs have not gone through proper training or because they did not want to serve foreigners. Either way, our students felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. We will NOT be back. read more
