Enchilada Plate with red and green sauce
Chantel V.

I was thoroughly impressed by this restaurant and I must say I walked in as a serious skeptic. Being from California and a bonafied Mexican food snob, I was unsure of if dining here would be a smart move. Boy was I wrong. I purposely ordered my enchiladas with one red sauce and one green to try them out and they were both good. But the true test for me usually comes with the rice and beans. Listen. Both were seasoned well and reminiscent of authentic dishes I have had in souther California. I was so pleasantly surprised, I've told everyone I can about this hidden gem in the middle of Montana! I was told that the original cook was actually from Mexico so that explains a lot. Not sure if he is still there but it's clear the recipes have stuck. As for decor, it is a quaint, very themed restaurant. I literally felt like I had left Montana and walked into a local eatery at home.

Small inside. Big parties should call ahead

Small local place which is very popular. Warm inside.. not enough cool air. Menu is standard with some dishes more flavorful than others. Carnitas was good, beans were bland. I ordered the taco plate which was boring in flavor and I had to add stuff to it to eat it (lime, sour creme, salsa) We arrived at 11:45 & they had NO CHILI VERDE because they ran out last night. Considering how popular the dish is, the cook should have arrived early to get it cooked off for the lunch and dinner crowd. They offer a spicy salsa which had good flavor and a hint of heat. Service was very good but I doubt think I would drive 90 min again to eat here. No alcohol, only pop, etc. They now accept cards for pymt.

Chili Verde Burrito

A very clean and well run place. Decor is nice, but simple. I found the food above average with generous portions. Prices are a little high but not unreasonable. If you crave Mexican it is worth a try. It has a family atmosphere with no beer or booze.

Had a great meal for the four of us. Salsa and chips were really nice. Jeramy aka Jose was a great host even though when he brought 4 Pacifco's to our table of 4 he got the order mixed up.. All tne dinners were so good. Everyone enjoyed theirs. Only thing i would suggest is spicer rice not so plain. And maybe an acacado dressing on the lettuce on the plate. We all will be going back. This is worth 5 stars. A not to be missed experiance.

If you want "Mexican" and have a few extra dollars, this is the place. Call ahead though because hours can be sporadic at times.

Very clean and great service. Food was good, if not unique. And they don't sell beer, which was a bummer. But overall I liked it.

This might be the best kept little secret in downtown Sandpoint. Located conveniently next to the…read morebig public parking lot on Church Street, Joel's offers a good range of delicious burritos and other goodies. So far, all I've tried is their California Burrito, which is quite tasty, and not as greasy as CBs I've had elsewhere. Everything feels and tastes fresher in their burritos, where you get a definite crunch from included veggies like tomatoes and lettuce. Their asada is very tender and has a pot roast kind of flavor to it. And the burritos are enormous. My wife and I split the burrito and it was all I could do to finish my half. My son ordered a plate of arroz con pollo (all about the basics, this kid) and gave it two very enthusiastic thumbs up. They offer a walk up service counter with seating primarily in the outdoor spaces in front of and beside the building. The covered seating area was under maintenance or repair when we went, so you might grab your grub to go if it's raining or snowing. I forgot to see if they do any specialty drinks like Jamaica or horchata, but they absolutely have a self serve soda fountain with Dr. Pepper on tap which, when I think about it, is all I really need to know. We've technically been twice now, and would have gone a third time last night (Wednesday) but they were closed, so wifey and I went to Joe's Philly Cheese Steak place down the street instead (sorry, Joel). To out myself as one o' them $#*%ing Californians, this place was very much a taste of home, and it's nice to know it's nearby when those burrito cravings hit all at once. As stated in the opening, this place is right next to a big, FREE public parking lot and perhaps brisk walking distance to City Beach, the Cedar Street Bridge (shopping) and the Sandpoint Farmers Market (when it's going, anyway). Prices are about what one would expect for a roughly 2lb serving of burrito awesomeness, $12-$15 on average. Definitely recommended if you're in the mood for something fast, fresh and tasty.
