We have used these guys on many occasions for both landscape design and for the weekly service. I have yet to find another company that provides the same level of service or professionalism. I hired RJL for a clean up and removal project. I've been in my home almost 18 years and am starting to get ready to sell and move. The extensive amount of overgrowth in my yard from shrubs, trees, and just nuisance plants was just too much for me to handle. I got a quote from Michael the manager and he explained they have a set 1/2 day and full day pricing for a crew of 3-4. I wanted to ensure all the work I designated would be completed and a full day was not in my budget so I hired a crew for a half day. So they arrived on schedule and Michael showed up too to direct the crew's work. I was available to make sure my priorities were addressed. What I expected to take 4 hours took only 3, and to be honest, I got everything I wished for done and a bit more. They brought a chipper to chip the branches that were cut down, which is one of the reasons I hired this team. I think they accomplished what I expected and went a bit beyond. I tipped each of the guys $20 bucks each - not that it was expected, but because I genuinely wanted them to know how much I appreciated their work. read more

We chose them because they really seemed to listen carefully, They created a beautiful backyard oasis for us including matching new hardscape to our old brick and bluestone, adding an outdoor kitchen, and building a pergola etc. We absolutely love it. I had Ross & Jack's do a drainage project for me. Our backyard tended to hold a lot of water and the slope of our lot channeled everything from sump pumps and downspouts to the back. Michael was very professional in the way that he assessed the problem, devised a solution, and directed the crew. He also kept me informed as we moved through the process. Although the solution involved digging up our backyard and installing drain tiles in several areas, when Michael and his crew were finished, I could barely tell that they were there. I lost count of the number of other landscapers who didn't return my calls. Ross and Jack's picked up the phone immediately, and I was connected with someone within 24 hours. I have used Ross and Jacks for design/install as well as weekly maintenence, they excel at both. I have read other reviews complaininging about customer service- while the owner can be very cut and dry, he is more of "sensitive artist" type vs. confrontational-he has talked me out of more stuff than he has sold me and is not shy about expressing his opinions-one memorable scenario was when he basically told me putting a bench in front of my house would look ridiculous, while I was taken aback by his candor I appreciated the fact that he told me it was an antiquated look and gave me better (and less expensve) options I highly recomend this company, my yard looks amazing. read more

This company does a really wonderful job of landscape design. But their weekly service is not very good. When we brought this to the owners attention, instead of listening and saying he would address our concerns - he just argued with me and said i was wrong and how wonderful his guys are. All they would do is mow the lawn. His guys spent more time laying on our lawn taking a break than actually working and paying attention to detail. So in short, I would use them for landscape design but we no longer use them for weekly service. read more

I found Ross & Jack's on Yelp, so figured I should join to post my review of their work. We recently hired them to remove existing landscape, design a new landscape and install it. They were wonderful from beginning to end. During the consultation, Mark spent at least an hour with me, walking the property to make suggestions. After he sent the plant proposal, he worked with me to change a few things (I am really opinionated about my plants!), and he was never annoyed by my questions. His final plant suggestions were just what I was looking for- interesting and less run-of-the-mill. On installation day, he and his crew laid out the plants, we worked together to get them just right, and they put it all in the ground with speed and care. Mark was always prompt in terms of communicating with me, which I really appreciated. His crew was great! While we were tinkering with plant placement, one of the men was edging our yard...at the curb...for free! They show real pride in their work and left our property in top shape. You can tell that Mark is a true plant lover- both in his plant selection and in his design- and his crew was so professional and conscientious. They all went above and beyond. We plan to use them again in the spring to landscape another area of the yard...I know this will be an ongoing collaboration. It's always nervewracking when you take a chance on a company; you can rest assured that these guys know their stuff and will take great care of you and your property. read more

We used Ross and Jack's for our new construction home in Elmhurst. The yard was a complete mess and we were not too sure that it would ever look presentable. They came up with an out of this world plan for our yard. But, since most of our budget went to the house, we had to keep the landscaping budget in check. I have nothing but great things to say about R&JL! From their initial quote to the final product, everything was absolutely amazing. Not only was the price fair but Mike, who gave us the quote, was so knowledgeable and provided us with insight on how to improve the aesthetic of our yard. Typically when you hire a contractor and they say 8:00 a.m. that means they will get there anywhere from 10 -12, but not them. They were early, and they finished the job in a efficient manner while making taking great care and consideration of all the minor details. We have used this company for ~4yrs. I hired them for our weekly mowing because they are the only people I've found who say they only hire workers who are in the U.S. legally. This is important to me. But, there is always some problem, something they broke, (extra fee) trimming our shrubs exactly like I said NOT to do (I was very specific about what I wanted & Mike's response "it looks fine, I like it, you should") or skinning parts all over the lawn because they don't pay attention. When you call about these problems, Mike is always nice because... he always finds a way to blame it on us!! Last straw... He found a way to blame my wife for over billing us for the three weeks we cancelled because of planned construction!!! Legal or not, I'm done. They've cost us too much money in damage. STAY AWAY FROM THESE JOKERS. As you can see from the company's comment-they have no problem forgetting THEIR mistakes & blaming you. There are plenty of similar comments on many websites. I can't say how well the actual landscaping is because we never got that far. We had someone (Mark?) come out to give us a quote on a small job. "Are you prepared to drop five grand on this? I don't think so.", he said. I guess he assumed I couldn't afford landscaping? Maybe if you charge us 5 grand to make a 15x15 plot look nice? He then told us we probably wouldn't live in our townhome for more than a few years. The guy was a completely disinterested in the job and spent the last 10 minutes of our conversation telling me how much money he has made by flipping homes. Oh wait, it gets better. His final suggestion, as a landscaper, was to just scatter flower pots around. "You can find them at garage sales." Awesome advice. This is your professional landscaping opinion? Come on! read more

This is a long overdue review for Ross and Jack's. I have been with them since Spring 2014 and obviously am more than completely satisfied with their service. Their employees are timely, helpful and knowledgeable - oh, and friendly. My yard immediately flourished with them and has continued to look great. Over the years we had made changes in our landscaping. I worked with Michael Spatola on each project. The biggest was getting rid of a multiple level pond. Michael totally redesigned our back yard absolutely beautifully. I love the way he planned it out and was great with working on the plan and also including my ideas, He really listens to your suggestions and either incorporates them, or suggests something that may work better. I appreciated the options. I have asked him for assistance numerous times over the years. Mark, as an owner, is really hands on and very approachable. He ensures that each client has their needs met and are satisfied. I trust them totally. I would recommend them and HAVE recommended them at every chance. Quality Company - you do get what you pay for with a landscaper. I went frugal in the past and it cost me more to bring my yard back into shape. I do feel they are more than fair in their pricing.
