I had a really unpleasant experience at self-checkout today. My items weren't scanning, so I pressed the help button. After several minutes, security came over to assist, but then a red-haired employee came up and, instead of calmly showing him how to fix the issue, she loudly told him he was doing it wrong and sent him back to his post. She then rushed through my checkout, was noticeably rude, and walked away without helping me remove my security tags. By that point, my group was already outside, and I was the first one at the registers.. yet I was told I'd have to get back in line just to have the tags removed. Overall, she was unprofessional, dismissive, and lacked basic customer service skills. If you shop here, be aware.. I wouldn't want anyone else to have this kind of experience. read more

Sometimes you just needs to go into Ross and just get them for all their white linen. That's just exactly what I did. I just came from Macy's home store where I almost bought a shower rug for $100 . I thought about it for a second and felt like this is not the time for this . I needed some bathroom rugs for two bathrooms and like 16 white towels in all the sizes. I even found a nice quilted throw for the foot of the bed. All for the lovely price of $244 that's a win.! So the towels aren't gonna say hotel collection like I originally wanted .They are going to dry me though . Five stars read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. It was empty which is to be expected from a Ross so close to a holiday but that didn't upset me. What upset me was the terrible behavior of the staff. I was browsing through the aisles when I hear one of the security guards speaking over their earpiece saying "I bet you she'll be one of those customers that go all the way through the checkout and her card will decline" and then proceed to laugh. I shouldn't have to hear that as someone that is going to give this establishment money. It was gross and something that should've been kept in the back. Despite this, I was abruptly told to leave at 10 PM, even though the store was still open. I had a cart full of items, totaling over $300, and was ready to pay when I was approached and treated extremely rudely. Your behavior was unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely uncalled for. Taking my cart, refusing to let me finish shopping, and speaking to me in a dismissive tone showed a total lack of customer service and basic human decency. If the store closes at 11, customers should be allowed to shop until then -- not forced out an hour early just because someone wants to leave early. The way I was treated--especially by an older woman wearing glasses--was unacceptable, and I will not be returning to this store because of it. You're immediately stopped at the entrance by security and have to wait in line twice, once to make the purchase and the second is for them to scan your receipt and items again. I had the worse customer service with manager Carmen at the Downey , California location. The loss prevention didn't bag my stuff. I noticed till I was home. She said they found one item and not the other I would get a refund. I return and she screams at me!!! In front of others telling me to move and they had to check cameras I said that's fine. I had 3 bags of stuff and the girl asked for my receipt then claimed I didn't scan what I could have sworn I scanned. Then she proceeded to ask me to look in my bags and for the other receipts. She made me feel dumb and like I was trying to do something I wasn't. Girl with the the rose tattoo on her hand couldn't even stay in the front when I arrived to get my money back. I used the new self checkout area which I was not familiar with and didn't know the machine could print the gift receipt. As I was getting the tags taken off my items I asked if someone could print a gift receipt and of could it was a no and that I needed to go thru the line. (I used self checkout because it was supposed to be convenient) I asked to speak with the manager the gentleman radio'd the manager NANCY and instead of her coming and speaking to the customer she told him to tell me that it couldn't be done. read more

I'll start off by saying that I've been to this location before, and that I am extremely disappointed at this Ross location. I have shop at many other Ross' in the County, but this is first location and the first time where i was discriminated, and treated like I was some type of criminal. Maybe it was because I was walking around slowly with my daughter who was wearing a neck brace and taken her time. Or it might have been because I was Hispanic wearing a Bennie. What ever it was it was fucking ridicules. We walked to self check out loss prevention asked if we had items with tags I replied yes two hats, she proceeded to taking off the tags my fiancé had items in the cart that she was going to pay separately. After that the Loss prevention associate walked with the hats and held on to the items close to the scanner till we sorted out our items in the cart. At that point I thought she was gonna help us by scanning the items to which I replied "you can go ahead and scan the 2 hats and 3rd item to complete my transaction" the LP replied "oh I don't scan the items I just have to scan one item to start the process and you scan the rest." I have done Dede check outs at Ross in the past and never had that happen if anything I would ask for help. I just shrugged it off and scanned the rest of my items payed and got my receipt when I put my items in the bag my fiancé was about to start scanning her items. Another cashier ran to the machine that I had used started tapping the screen like a maniac just to print out my receipt ripped it from the printer and then handed it to the loss prevention associate. When my fiancé had started scanning her items I looked over at the two looking at my reprinted receipt. It was really humiliating that this shit had happen. I felt like I was treated like a criminal. I really don't know why they did that since I paid for my items. What I don't understand is why the fuck that fucking cashier didn't do that with the previous customers that used the self check out. I was discriminated, humiliated and treated like a thief. When I'm a hard working citizen to pay for the shit that I can afford, the worst part was explaining to my 12 year old wtf happen since everything was so obvious that a 12 year old caught in to the bull shit. This store is a filthy unorganized mess! Items are messy and filthy. Clothes are used and put back on shelves. Staff look like they hate their jobs and the line to check out is worse than the holidays. It had 60 people waiting and took 40 minutes. Check your receipts too because price gets ringed up for more. You get overcharged! Buyer beware this Ross is awful! Only good thing is the security at front greet you and are friendly. All other employees are miserable and only 2 check stands out of 10 open and 3rd goes on break when line is a mile long. Won't be going back. read more

The people that run this Ross are racist. I was discriminated against because they assumed the only two black people in the store knew each other and asked me to leave because a male who I didn't even know was stealing. I was a faithful Ross customer and have been going since I was a little girl. I have never stolen anything. I have never been treated like this in any other Ross. The area is predominantly Hispanic. This experience at the Downey Ross has put a bad taste in my mouth. I will not be going back here. I have already contacted the corporate office and NAACP. I come here any time I need decorations for my apartment. I decorated my entire living room with their stuff. They have some of the cutest things for really cheap! The sad thing is that a lot of their things are damaged or half of the packaged items have been stolen. Sometimes they'll issue a discount, but not always. The security here needs to really step up their game. I'm tired of finding something I really like and realize someone there has broken it or stolen half of the item. Also, be very careful trusting the food items. Get the things that don't expire or get stale easily. Some of it is out of date. read more

It's disappointing to know that there are better Ross stores in SoCal and throughout the Southwest. The unpleasant combination of seemingly sugar-only fed kids alongside braindead, mobile phone-engulfed parents and dreadfully long checkout lines are the worst. I've lived here three years and it's almost humorous how slow the checkout line moves even when it's not busy. Sure, I like the prices on the very few items I ever find, but like many Ross's much of the apparel is picked over or not in the right place - usually because it's on the floor or another customer misplaced it. Located in the Downey Landing shopping center, parking can be an issue at peak times. Shitty experience yesterday. Was there to look for a planner since it was Sunday night at 8pm and staples and office max/depot were already closed. So i took a chance and went to this Ross at Downey landing and man or man was it messy and shelves were empty. There were prob 3 planners and like 7 Notebooks and some other crafty thing but only a handful the rest of the shelves were empty in the row. I walk to the front to look at jewelry and I see see a necklace that strikes my eye, mind you there were only 3 necklaces on display. So empty felt like I was shopping on Christmas Eve at this spot like they never recovered from the holiday shopping. Anywho back to the necklace. There's a worker, but she's working the cashier register 3... so i wait politely for her to finish with a customer since she's the one working by the jewelry. And i ask her if she can show me a piece of jewelry as it's in the display. She proceeded to respond with "oh you have to get in line" and gave her back to me. I thought she misunderstood me so i said clarified that I wasn't sure if i was going to buy the necklace so why would I get in line!? She still said i needed to get in line to see it! The line was about 8 people deep and i wasn't about to get in that line that was going to take about 40 minutes or so just to see the $16 dollar necklace. Nope. So we left. Poor customer service and i understand they are only employees but dang you lost some potential customers that was willing to purchase a couple of things. Even though is near closing I'm always greated by security guard Angel with a friendly smile. night staff are always cheerful, curtious and very helpfull.
