I had an incredibly great experience shopping at the Lakewood location. I have been a huge fan of Cost Plus since before "World Market" was added to the name. I had admired a chair online, but at the store was told it was out of stock but I could go online to be notified if it got restocked. I did that and after months went by, I finally got an email that it was back in stock. I went back to the Lakewood store and they told me the chair would have to be ordered. So Michelle ordered it. I heard nothing for another month and then Michelle called to let me know it had finally arrived at the store AND there was an ottoman. She honored the initial price and was extremely helpful holding the two pieces until I could pick them up. It's rare to find someone who follows through over a months long process and provides such caring support. I highly recommend Michelle and this location. read more

Revisit? Yes, I like browsing here. World Market has been at this location for decades now, and I've always had fun shopping for home decor pieces, stationary, Christmas items, and unique snacks and drinks. It's a good place to find gifts when you're not quite sure what to buy someone. The store layout is maze-like, and that adds to the sense of wandering around to discover hidden gems. The store is clean and pretty tidy, even during the holidays when the checkout line is long. The workers are nice and helpful. I'm only deducting a star because I've bought snacks here that I didn't realize were expired until I got home, so you do need to check the date before you buy. Also, some things seem a bit overpriced. But overall, I'm a World Market fan. read more

Absolutely love World Market! Great store with lots of items from around the world. I specifically came to visited for Lindemans Framboise beer as it's hard to locate anywhere. Had a feeling they sold it here and so glad I found it. I jumped up for joy because wanted to get a bottle for a trip to Ojai. Found some other interesting snacks to also take along the way. What I love about this store, there are plenty of great snacks from Japan and Korea. They have good options for teas, wines, beers, olives, furniture, tote bags, jewelry, candies, and much more some are rare to find at other stores. Very diverse store. There's certain panels where items are on sale. I bought Chomp beef sticks for $1 each which they usually cost about $3. I didn't hesitated so I grabbed like 12 of them. Super stoked because my kids and I love these beef sticks. Packed with good amount of protein. Walked out spending more than I expected, but happy with my purchases. World Market always sends out good vibes. This location in particular is huge and they have lots of cool furniture and mainly European goods. The best feature is the fact that they have started to carry Swedish candy. Still with an awful profit margin that makes it very expensive but at least they have the option. Lets say the comments on how rude the staff is in lakewood store are absolutely true. I purchased 100.00+ in candy, food, and other items at this store. I saw at the register check out Harry Potter chocolate frogs with a collectible card shelf tag 3.99 -- i buy all ten they have. After my daughter says thats 50% off what she gets them for at Universal studios The next day, we are in Costa Mesa and the store has a full box of frogs, and the shelf tag is 3.99 -- I buy the box of 24. The kid checking us out super nice but first day on the register, so they walking him through how to use the register. So when headed to the car with purchase i said i better check the receipt. Sure enough the harry potter frogs ring up at 4.99 not the tag of 3.99 -- they do price adjustment, and the manager tells the kid to take the tag down and she will print new ones for the price mistake. So now drive home, check the other receipt and its 4.99 not 3.99 and drive back to the store. The kid at the register calls on radio for G3 or something to the front must be code for manager. Tall 6 ft female manager says what is the issue, he tells her he has picture of shelf tag supposed to be 3.99 not 4.99 on 10 frogs. She then says where is this picture from, I tell her costa mesa store, as I caught the mistake while there. She rudely tells me 3 times, that if i do not have the picture of the shelf tag in her store she will not honor the price. She then says if Costa Mesa honored the price tag error that is on them. She continues saying they can scan the item with their phone to see it was a mistake. I tell her I didnt take a picture of the shelf tag, because I didnt know the day before they made same error. She said sorry nothing i will do for you. I call the customer service chat, and speak to Armando, who says he is sorry for the trouble in the store, but without a picture of the Lakewood store price mistake they will investigate it, but wont change things. I ask their representative do you take a picture of every shelf tag a store when your shopping ? NO he says, so how can your corporation think that without a price tag picture your S.O.L ! The harry potter caramel barrel and small jelly belly glass cup with butter bean jelly bellies were moved from the left to the right side of the display today. i wouldnt give a penny to this company anymore if thats their idea of protecting themselves from price mistakes! Horrible manager with zero customer service skills, and a phone customer service basically telling you we will elevate it but without photo proof you wont get any place. I like this Cost Plus. I have been going to it for years. This is the first irritation I've experienced as a customer here and it happened a few months ago. I saw a bag/purse online that I liked the look of. I went to the store and purchased it. When I got home, I cut off the price tag, stoked to use it. That night, I went out to a dinner and took the bag. And man. Something about the bag material and how its straps are constructed made the bag a tactile nightmare. I didn't realize until I loaded the bag with my belongings and carried it that it would feel this way. After I got home from dinner, I put the bag aside, and after a couple of days thinking about it, I decided to return it. I wasn't able to find the price tag, but I dug the purchase receipt out of the trash and went back to the store. I approached the customer service agent who told me he wouldn't be able to return the purse since the SKU/Item number was not on the bag anymore. I went back and forth with him and he called over a manager, who basically said the same thing. She was pretty apathetic toward trying to help me and basically said the same thing. She scanned the purchase receipt and the transaction came up, which she said was "lucky, otherwise she wouldn't be able to return the bag." I was refunded my whole purchase amount and left the store with a bad taste in my mouth. This item was listed for sale online, and the online listing was still up and referenced the SKU/item number right there. I am surprised that the manager didn't think to check or look at some inventory or something that would have shown this information. Also, as someone who worked in retail years ago (think Sears in the early 2000s,) the scanning of a receipt to bring up the transaction is not "lucky," it's been industry standard for decades. I don't know, man. I have been back a few times to purchase food, but I won't be getting any more items of apparel, accessories or home decor based on this interaction. If I need to return something in the future, I don't want to be seen as an adversary. Recommend the store for sure, but just return with caution, I guess. read more

They have a nice variety of products ranging from International foods to products supporting great organizations, handmade items, various gifts, a small home decor section, household goods and more. The store feels nice and open. I love it's never crowded, making shopping enjoyable. For the quality of items and international goods, prices are quite fair. Checkout is always fast and easy. This is just the 2nd time that I've been to this store, it's been awhile. I'm now kicking myself for not going there sooner and more often. The store is very clean, organized and spacious. The employees are very nice. I'm doing this review mainly because of the way I was treated as I was checking out. Delaney was the cashier who was at the check out, she presented me with some options which I took advantage of. She was very pleasant and walked me through the process. In doing so, I got 15% off of my purchase. Her customer service was exceptional and she made my shopping experience amazing and worthwhile. After participating in the Golden Unicorn scavenger hunt on 11/7, I wasn't told I had to use the coupon that same day - or I would have! My ID was logged along with all of my personal information but you didn't bother to check. Came back on 12/21 to purchase last minute Christmas items and I was treated by the store manager as if I had made up a lie to get $20 off my $186 purchase. I know for a fact that she could have used a comp code to give me the discount but she chose not to. So I will choose not to go to this location anymore! I arrived here simply because I had seen it so many times in passing and was curious to see what was behind those lovely glass doors lol I knew they sold nice home good items and decorations. Nothing prepared for for all the beautiful gifts, decor, home goods, nostalgic items, candles, cards and scents! So many nice items I don't even know where to begin. I'm absolutely shocked at how badly my sweet mother in law was treated by this store. She is always so friendly and I can't believe someone would be so rude to her. I ordered 4 chairs online 5 days prior and designated my mom to pick them up, since I have a newborn at home. I almost immediately received an email that my order had been delayed and I'd receive another email once it was ready for pick up. The original order summary email also stated I had 10 days to pick it up. After the 5 days with no updated my mom called the Lakewood store. They informed her the order had been cancelled because we took to long to pick it up. My mom tried to explain what the email had said but the manager, Michelle, just talked over her, and even made disparaging comments to a coworker in the background of the call. When my mother in law offered to reorder and pick it up they made her provide my account, my order number, then told her to look up the item name, and the SKU number herself in order for them to pull it. Couldn't they have just seen that in my previously cancelled order? Why are they making my mother in law do their job for them? The manager then told my mom they were going to pull the 2 chairs they had and she could pick them up. When mom got there the chairs weren't ready! I also received the same delay email as last time, with no date range or time frame for when to pick it up. The manager said my mom would have to wait 2-3 hours and accused her of lying. They also blamed the warehouse for the original cancellation, and didn't think they had any responsibility to help us or remedy the situation. They said they could pull the chairs if she bought them in store but we would have to cancel our pick up order and buy it again in store wouldn't get our 15% members discount coupon for online ordering. Okay, so why couldn't they just pull the chairs for my online order, if they had them that easily accessible? World Market has some really cool sh*t. Some of it's overpriced. Some of it is human-made. Some of it is junky stuff made in China which I avoid. Some of it is nostalgic. Any time I need a gift for a teacher or a friend, I keep World Market on my radar. There are some really cute items for babies and kids too. Don't forget the wine, rosé, beer, and snacks. This past Saturday (8/28/21) was the third time that not a single employee at this Lakewood location asked if I needed assistance. I did, but whatevs. I figured it out. They were incredibly busy that mid-afternoon. Other patrons and I waited in line for a while - too long considering how many employees were huddled in the area. This is not atypical. But this go-round, the youngster at the register was rude and super indifferent... She's there to work for her paycheck, but got irritated essentially because I didn't take the items out of the little shopping basket for her which led to some condescending remarks on her part. Lol. Okay, sis. Parking is easy in this area. It's free in a plaza with a weird maze-like entrance. I've always loved this store. I had not been in a long time since the pandemic. I wanted a chandelier and was helped by a very friendly employee who helped me sign up to be a rewards member and helped me order a chandelier. It actually took a long time for my chandelier to come. I even had to call to make sure it was still coming because I had not heard an update for maybe 7-10 days. The worker who helped me order, was helpful and kind and told me I could use my rewards coupon when I came to pay for it. I was very excited. When I came to pick up my item it took them a while to find it which is no problem. I could tell that they were busy doing some thing around the store. I explained to the person that I was paying what I was told about my new member coupon and she said not a problem that she would just have to have it signed off by her manager. A woman named Michelle came to the front and the worker explain the situation. She told me she was not going to be able to honor that coupon even though that is what was told to me. She continually made subtle inferences that I was not being honest about what was told to me. I stayed very calm and asked her to verify with the person who made the order and she told me she did not have time to do that. I also asked if there was someone else I could talk to her and she said any complaints that are ever made will just come back to her, so nothing would happen. She ended up honoring the deal but only after I felt completely humiliated. I was being honest and was treated as if I wasn't. This is was very difficult. I love my chandelier and am very happy but I do not believe I will ever return again to a store that would ever treat someone like that. Thank you though to all the other workers that were very kind. From other reviews it looks like Michelle has made other people feel discouraged before. I was never contacted by anyone about my complaint, so I posted here. I hope this can change. I came by to check some items for work that I saw online. Alexandra was so charming and professional, sooooo polite, really left a great impression with her EXCELLENT customer service. I just left Hobby Lobby and I left there a bit bummed cause I was not treated very nice, and I am always polite to retail employees as I was one and a manager myself. Went to pick up the cutest mushroom cookie jar I purchased online. But first, I roamed around the store looking at all of their magnificent items. They had such an awesome Halloween selection, I was quite impressed. But I decided I better just pick up my cookie jar and get out before the buying impulses kicked in. Always clean, well stocked... displays are tastefully assembled. Arrangement of and within the aisles makes sense for both the flow of customers and keeping like items together. Most employees provide prompt answers to questions and get assistance immediately if uncertain of an answer. All are polite, neat in appearance and knowledgeable when it comes to the store's inventory. A lot of things are overpriced when applied to the discipline level I set my wallet to abide by but, sales do happen. Now, if you know someone, like myself, who may be reluctant to shop there regularly, why not get them a gift card when it comes holiday or birthday time? They would surely appreciate it. Oh if you need the spelling of my last name or just want to pick up a case or two of Bundeberg Ginger Beer... I can tell you where to deliver it. TLDR: Four stars for the very cool and unique offerings, but lacking in customer service skills. The Good: This a great place to come to shop for the person who has everything. World Market has a lot of very cool things-- food from other countries, interesting books, and fun stocking stuffers (face masks, candles, etc.). I think the items in this store are very fun and definitely recommend you visit a World Market near you! We came to this World Market to pick up some food items from "around the world" to make a Christmas gift for a family member. There were lots of options and we quickly found some fun foods -- licorice from Australia, Greek breadsticks, Spanish wine, Japanese watermelon candies, etc. It made for a great gift and the receiver really, really enjoyed it! The Not So Good: We were charged twice for one item and didn't realize until reviewing the receipt after getting home. Since this is our closest World Market and we live about 20-30 minutes away, we did not rush to come back to correct this error. We did come back 5 days later, as we were in the area, and were lectured about waiting too long to come back. This particular day I was taking family pictures in the area and I forgot to put on earrings. Why did I do that ? So I had to get some earrings. This weekend they happened to have 50% off of clearance. I was able to get a super cute dress and earrings for $13. I do have to honest, though. That day the service was a little funky. So like I said I was looking for earrings and man proceeded to ask me if I needed help. Did I look lost ? I was shopping the earrings. When I was at the register, I realized that I wanted to get something else (since it was a super clearance day). I asked the cashier if I could quickly grab a dress and she told me I would have to get back into line. I said that was alright and walked out after I had paid. September 2022: updated review. Still a three star experience. This place hires some of the worst people. Not friendly or helpful at all. Or they have this...pretentious and can barely be bothered attitude. Is this place supposed to be high-end and snobby? Is that the mood they are going for? I stopped in for a few things recently and was looking for the pecan bourbon coffee. Dude that was back there stocking the teas couldn't be bothered to even look for it when I told him there were none on the shelves but the website said it was in stock (and no, they're was no message that said only two left, or anything like that). Grabbed a different coffee and some snacks then headed to the registers. The last time I came (maybe three days before this experience) there was a tall guy at the registers with the dark hair, thin, maybe 21 or 22. He kept talking to this teammate about personal stuff for about a minute or two, THEN acknowledged me. Anyway, back to my coffee excursion. when I got to the register I asked the young lady about the coffee just to be sure. Sure enough, she told me that they keep there seasonal coffee near the front of the store then apologized for the lack of assistance I got in the back. I wish my home store was a different one than the one in Lakewood. It is rarely a pleasure to shop here. ******************* I really like this store.
