Ross in Montclair was honestly better than I expected and definitely one of the nicer Ross locations I've been to. The store was clean, organized, and actually easy to shop in, which is rare for Ross. The aisles weren't chaotic, the selection was solid, and it didn't have that overwhelming feeling you get at some other stores. Prices were great as always, and I found everything I needed without having to dig through piles of random items. I would absolutely come back based on the inside experience alone. The one thing that really threw me off was the checkout process. The cashier kept calling the next person in line even though the customer being helped hadn't fully cleared the area yet. You end up squeezing past someone who is still waiting on their receipt, and it creates this weird, awkward moment where nobody knows where to stand. It felt rushed and uncomfortable, and it's something they really need to fix because it makes the ending of the visit feel messy. The parking lot also gets a little sketch after sunset since the lighting isn't great, so I definitely prefer coming during the daytime. Overall, the store itself is good and I would shop here again, but the checkout flow and the nighttime parking vibe definitely need attention. read more

They spoke more to eachother than to me during the entire purchase AND to top it all off they didn't notice the sensor on my dogs bed. The cashier name Lily is a terrible and LAZY employee. I was returning items so I already had a bag with me and when she asked if I needed a paper bag for the new items, I said no. I bought five pairs of jeans, and she just threw them in front of me without folding them even just little bit. When she wanted to call the next customer and saw me struggling to fold each pair of jeans, she acted very rudely. She just stood there and waited for me to fold them. I looked at her and asked, "Shouldn't you be helping me fold them?" She said that it wasn't her job. I don't understand what her job is there for? To be rude to customers, lazy, and uneducated? I told her that I had never seen an employee at Ross who was as arrogant, rude, terrible, and lazy as she was. I told the manager about this, but she seemed to only want to cover for Lily. She said that it wasn't a job duty, but just poor customer service. Cashiers like Lily are giving a bad look to the good employees at this Ross store. And if the manager is covering for this, then she is irresponsible and doesn't deserve to manage a store. I'm going to try to find out how to contact their general manager to tell them that this Ross store is very rude to customers if they don't buy the 20-cent paper bags. Went in yesterday, and the cashier Monique was too involved with the other cashier Destiny, that she didn't even acknowledge me. As she was ringing my stuff she kept her conversation going never once saying anything to me but my total at the end. So I go in there had a good time shopping jamming to my air pod music walk to checkout a security guard helps me out by putting my stuff that was in a small cart in a big cart which was so thoughtful of her at least I thought so I continue walking to checkout get called up I see a lady that's behind the glass counter side of the store has a little back and forth small talk with her she was nice . Then as I'm done she says the people at the door will check my receipt so i walk right over and he asks to check my bags- not a problem I just happened to have 4 plastic bags on my right arm will carrying a king size Steve Madden comforter/set so for more conscience I put the bags on the floor so he can do whatever is what that he needs to do for his job . I then go on my phone and request a Lyft he then says to me " did you have a problem with my college putting your stuff in a cart for you" .... I thought that was so weird and random . I felt targeted I then wished him a good night as I walked out I then said " and you can tell her no she helped me out a lot " .. that was such an awkward weird first time at this Ross .. all in all I found some realllly neat finds. This store used to be a nice store! They are just not same... They do have some finds but when merchandise is just thrown out there it is not a great shopping experience. This is not just during the holidays mind you! When you enter the security welcomes you to the store and also when you exit... This is the best part of the Ross shopping experience. I deal with each employee based the way they treat me. I have had a couple employees in the fitting room act a little off putting... Other than that the cashiers and managers are great! I would love to see this store clean up and be better organized. Also customer service is essential! read more

Either this place has a major shoplifting problem or they like profiling "certain" customers if you catch my drift. It felt like I was being watched and followed by the loss prevention guy the entire time I was there. I get it- you don't want people stealing. But I'm standing there in shorts and a tee shirt with no purse, no bags, and no shopping cart. Here's a helpful tip: Look for people with large pockets, backpacks, baggy clothes, or bags in which they can conceal items. People who are moving quickly throughout the store trying not to get caught. The 34 year old married woman casually browsing hair bows in the toddler section is usually not going to be your theif. I went into Ross for a quick 'look-see' prior to TUESDAY SENIOR/ family rush. I was able to find a 2 piece athletic set for 4.99 but rather than wait-I snapped it up. As I was in line to purchase there was a man of foreign descent dressed in red T shirt, red shorts vaping and fondling his erect penis. It was DISGUSTING, just plain NASTY and he was boasting about it in his native language to his friend as they stood in line to purchase these red duffle bags. There was a child in line behind this pervert too! He kept grabbing and touching himself pointing, laughing with his friend then taking a drag on his vape pipe. This other customer and I were disappointed there was no security to bring this to the attention of as he continued his filthy display in front of a line of women and children. I was so glad I at least had my mask on -wish I had carried my pepper spray gel as a precaution. Just be on alert, there are some SICK slime balls out and about with no one to prevent it. read more

Worst customer service ever! Laura, a Loss Prevention team member is perfect at preventing only thing and that is preventing people from entering your store. I asked to see some jewelry and another associate was showing me some pieces. She then walks over and hovers over me, all while crossing her arms and just giving me dirty looks as if I were a thief. I have never stolen anything in my entire life and to be treated as someone who would is just disrespectful and appalling.
