Have to give a negative review. I really don't like to but I've been to the store on 2 different occasions with purchasers in hand and have left without making it through the checkout. First time, no bathrooms. Wait what? Maybe a Covid thing so I decided, oh well & left. 2nd time, Wednesday afternoon, around 4:00 Dressing rooms "not open"? One employee at checkout and probably 15 people in line. Kudos to him because customer service in that situation is a real challenge. Left without purchasing about $70 of merchandise - maybe more. Love the inventory & the one sales associate (female) I interacted with was pleasant & apologetic about dressing rooms. Management needs to address these issues. Very disappointed about walking away. read more

The person who took great care of me today was very elaborately dressed. They had big, bold, multi-color hair, and striking make-up. I popped in this particular Ross store looking for a nightlight. My first impression was the store looked rundown. There were items on the floor, kids running around like they were on the playground, one boy actually knocked down a barstool as his parents continued looking at items ignoring this unruly behavior. I continued looking for the nightlight but was unsuccessful in my search and approached a Ross worker. I barely got the words "Do you have....' and was immediately cut off with " 'no hablo ingles' Her response literally took me back and I replied really? She looked at me rudely and said "really!" I approached another worker and got the same response! What the heck is going on here? where am I? How can this be allowed? For goodness sakes ROSS at least hire bilingual workers!! Update: It is clear our complaint is solely with Diana, the night manager for breaking corporate policy as the day manager Amber (who should be promoted) & the regional manager (who called us directly) made things right and was disturbed the incident that happened had happened in their store. Her behavior goes against their set policies and if Diana doesn't like those policies she should seek out new employment. She or 'friends' even came on Yelp to try to bully me out of the complaint, and make counter 'reviews' . While Diana doesn't like to be inconvenienced she is comfortable inconviencing others and that includes the morning team who had to put all the many items back she rejected from other customers when they were well within their time to be in line. Don't let her continue to bully people and if she does, report it. The last I have to say on this is that the rest of the team was really, really great. Retail is a hard job, it can be a thankless stream of seemingly unempathetic people and headaches and it is not for everyone so I commend the many many awesome people in service jobs who still show up and treat people with kindness and respect every day like the other staffers at Ross. Absolutely disgusted at how I was spoken too and treated at this Ross just now. I waited in a long line without any complaints. I obviously knew there was only one register opened so I patiently waited. Another cashier came over to help ( an African American lady associate number 231274) I was the next person to get rung up and she yelled over to me and said I need to take off my hangers. I didn't know what she was talking about since I didn't see any sign while waiting in line. When I went up to her to ring up my purchase I asked her if there was a sign becasue I didn't see it. She pointed all rudely and was like this is coming from Ross not me. I said I didn't see the sign and I'm also not an employee I shouldn't be obligated to take off the hangers. She then told me it was to move lines faster. Which sure makes sense but again she didn't have to be rude about it. She kept going on to me about it being a store policy she then asked me if I needed a bag I said no thank you and I started folding my shirts. She grabbed my clothes from the counter and shoved them to me and said we are also not obligated to fold your clothes! I told her I didn't ask her to and walked out. Haters gonna hate, but this store is pretty fantastic as far as the realm of high-volume discounters go. Lots of selection, and lots of nice-quality selection. After an internet-ordering fiasco, we needed slim-fit khakis for a wedding. Walked right in and found 30X32 Calvin Klein dress khakis for $15(!!!). Dress belts are $10, and there is actually a huge men's selection compared to the Ross in SLO. Prices are way better than the TJ Maxx in SLO, but the service definitely sucks. Expect to stand in line for 5-10 (I always anticipate this in a Ross - don't go in when you're in a rush). Bonus points for being 3 minutes away from an In N' Out. Lightning doesn't always strike twice, but next time we're in a crunch, we'll be back. read more

This is a really great example of workers creating an atmosphere. I think because it's a big open space, you can see everyone. And most everyone I see working here looks flat out miserable. I can feel their misery. But product wise, Ross felt picked over. How can you have an entire store full of product and theres still nothing I want to buy?? I don't know what happened to this place. It used to be a great place to shop, but its really slid backwards in the last year or two. I went in to find some shirts for work and came up empty. I did manage to score a nice anodized steel non stick pan and some forks and spoons for great price, but its almost not worth standing a glacially slow line to buy the stuff. The line was 6 people deep with only a girl named Shelly ringing people out. There is a loss prevention guy wandering around the front and greeting people. He wound up paging someone named Francine who never came up to the front and no one re-paged for help. I felt sorry for Shelly, having to ring non stop with no help whatsoever from anyone else. What really kills me is that they have two lines. One for buyers and a shorter one for returns. Anyone who walks in off the street with a return is helped right away while the rest of us stand there continuing to wait to make a purchase. Kind of a lousy policy for people actually trying to give them business. Either open up more lines, or make the people doing returns wait with the rest of us. Not really sure if the good prices is worth the hassle and the wait time. read more

Unfortunately this Ross, as I've noticed at all of them, are trying to cut costs in every way possible.... and the customers are having to deal with it. Customers are run thru the registers like cattle, employees, in general, are indifferent to the customers and rarely friendly. I have been going to Ross since it's inception in the 1980's and I have been a loyal fan and supporter because I have always been able to find unique treasures at fantastic prices. The buyers in charge of clothing are scraping the bottom of the barrel. The quality has gone down consistently for the last several years. Thankfully at the holidays they tend to get in a higher calibre of items. If the quality continues to decline, as I imagine it will, I believe I will visit less and less and eventually Ross will not on my radar. read more

Today I went to Ross. It started out like any other shopping trip or so I thought, but as I was approaching the fitting room, I heard the fitting room associate telling a customer I was going to switch tags, and that he can tell just by the way I look. He said all this while I was literally standing right in front of them so obviously he assumed I did not know English. I ignored it, and took the number, but when I exited the fitting room I told him in English I was only taking one garment. He looked so embarrassed. I spoke to a manger, completed a survey from my receipt, and am posting this review on Yelp. The associate name was Scott. I needed a new pet bed as my dog was going to spend a couple nights in a kennel. As I a walked to the rear of the store where the pet goods are located, I couldn't help but notice about 1/3 of the inventory was on the floor. Tripping hazards all over. The store was a complete mess, and my expectations are pretty low for Ross. Picked out a pet bed and went to get in line. The checkout line went from the front of the store to the rear of the store, and then made a right turn. 50+ customers in line with two cashiers. I set the pet bed down and walked out. Went to Marshalls about a mile away, and was in and out in less than 5 minutes. Marshalls had 7 cashiers. read more

My visit to Ross was good as I found many items to purchase. The problem came at checkout. I was told that bags would not be provided for the many items that I purchased. I am disabled, my car was in the parking lot. The shopping cart could not be taken out of the store. I had to leave the cart with my items in it, go out and drive my car as close to the exit door as possible. The door could not be opened from the outside so I had to stand and wait until a customer opened the door. I then had to hand carry my items a few at a time out the door and into my car. Luckily a kind customer held the door for me. In what world is this policy considered acceptable? read more

I went shopping mid day on a monday for a few dress and thought I'd go to Ross. they didnt disappoint with the variety. The store was nice and quiet, clean, the fittings were clean as well, there were helpful employees and the security person was really nice too. I found a few dresses and sandles, the shoe area was organized and not messy like usual. The cashier at check out was so friendly I felt I knew her personally. I love to go to different Rosses all across California. I used to love to go for the bargains.& i've spent a lot of money on items at different stores. I really am questioning if I want to return to this Ross in particular. The staff are unfriendly & treat you like you are some kind of a criminal. I had a return recently and the particular sales girl Michelle was so rude and acted so odd I felt like I was being treated like I was a criminal. Wierd. Another time I was in the store I got yelled at by someone after a sales associate had told me to come forward and put my stuff up on the counter another woman who works there who I guess had a higher rank came over and yelled at me in front of all those the people !! Appalling. it is so weird why do they have such an attitude and why are they so rude.? Don't they want to have a successful store? I'm wondering if I even want to go in the store anymore because of their attitudes Also over where the carts are the floor is filthy they need to take those carts out and scrub that floor it's disgusting and unhealthy. I went inside and the cashier was nice and said welcome to Ross. I was looking around for clothes and shoes and I found everything I wanted. I went to the dressing room and this very nice gentleman helped me with my clothes and even gave me a hanger when my dress didn't have one. Thank you Scott for helping me. I went to the cashier and this woman was just taking her sweet ass time with a box. She couldn't even open it. My girl used to work there and opened it. And y'all seriously need more cashiers. So I'm giving this visit a 1 star cuz it wasn't a good visit, except the gentleman Scott. Hope y'all will get more cashiers cuz that line was long and I waited 20 minutes or more. Cashiers here are the rudest! If you work in customer service at least greet the customers who are buying stuff from the store. Maleni looked so miserable today, I said hi, I was talking to her while she scanned my stuff, never did I get a smile a hi or a thank you. I've shopped here for years, but only because it's so hard to find unique items in 5-cities. The store is clean, but the service and policies are HORRIBLE, and the staff is consistently rude and incompetent. A few main points: Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to shop; there are NEVER enough cashiers, so plan on waiting 15-25 minutes to check out (longer during the holidays). Good luck trying to figure out where to stand in line; sometimes they want you to all stand in one line, and sometimes they want a line for each cashier, but there are no ropes or signs to guide you. (Apparently, "Corporate won't allow it!") Be sure to read the back of your receipt for returns; their policy is strict. And I learned today that if you have the nerve to return something the same day that you bought it, be prepared to give them your driver's license number. Because having your personal information in their computer system helps protect you. Or something. (Huh?) And here's a quick, fun story: I bought a cute knit sweater there a few weeks ago. I took it home and washed it according to the label directions, and it COMPLETELY fell apart. Took it back the next day (with receipt) and was told that they wouldn't even give me store credit because I had washed it. I guess they don't stand behind their crappy merchandise. So there's that. Ross, may I suggest a customer service refresher for your staff and management? And perhaps treating your customers like guests in your store instead of criminals would be a nice idea. Many Ross stores have that large selection of apparel, shoes, a jewelry section, and a home section (i.e. towels, rugs, bits of furniture, etc.). And many of them are also quite messy in between the aisles (i.e. I almost feel like I'm going to trip onto some towels or other stuff). And this location...is different. It's surprisingly clean on the inside! The aisles are clear, making it a pleasure to shop here. The interior is also well-lit and there are some pretty good items hidden amongst the sometimes defective apparel. I like their selection of men's hats. So, if you're looking for deals (and you don't mind looking great in clothes that might have some defects) try shopping at this Ross location. read more

Horrible customer service! The cashier put a towel in my bag (we supply our own) and left the remaining items on the counter and turned his back. When I was on a shopping trip at the store I accidentally left my debit card in their machine. I called the store to see if they had my card and I spoke to a man who told me "yes we have your card. We will hold it for you Just ask for a manager when you come to pick it up." I told the Ross employee on the phone but I wouldn't be able to make it back to the Pismo Beach store until the following day at noon because I live in San Luis Obispo and I was already home. He told me that they would hold my card for me until I picked it up the next day. The following day I arrived at the Pismo Beach Ross store at 12:30 PM and when I asked management for my card she said she would be back, she had to go grab it from the back room. After some time she came back and told me that she could not find my debit card as she proceeded to look throughout the front desk area and in each register. I explained to her that I Spoke to a man on the phone last night who confirmed with me that they did have My debit card And that it would be safely put away for me until I arrived to come pick it up. The manager then apologized and started to tell me that when people leave their cards behind on accident or safety procedure is to shred them the following morning after calling the bank institution and alerting them of the lost card. I was pretty upset and I explained to her that I Had confirmed with an employee last night they would be holding it for me upon my arrival. She said she was sorry and that the card must've been shredded! I understand that it's a safety procedure for people To be protected as far as somebody illegally using their card, however, I thought it was completely bullshit that an employee confirms they would hold my card for me until I arrive and then they went ahead and shredded my only debit card that I needed to use for medical expense that was scheduled for today!!! read more
