While getting my receipt checked, i asked the security guard if i could take the cart out to my car to load the stuff and I said "what?" under my breath hoping he heard me. he then stopped me and said "that's a no! because of this!" looking angry, scary and i was devastated because the whole store definitely heard it. I haven't stepped foot in this Ross for a long time. This is because there is usually a ridiculously long line that literally snakes around in a huge maze. Children running around unsupervised. So I stopped in the other day to look for some inexpensive sneakers. I wasn't looking forward to it but was pleasantly surprised. The store was clean, no line at all! Read between the lines. I don't know what happened to this particular Ross I wish corporate would read the reviews from so many of us different customers. This Ross drastically declined these last 3 years. It's always a mess, dirty, and the employees are rude. I talked to a Hispanic employee with long black straight hair (I asked another employee for her name and they said her name was Jessica) as Jessica was walking away I hear her call me a cu*t. I said to her excuse me and she just kept walking away. Ross please do better and hire employees who won't use profanity in front of children. There are two Ross stores near me, one in Santa Barbara, the other in Goleta. The Goleta Ross is great. Clean, organized, decent staff, nice selection for a Ross. The Santa Barbara store is the exact opposite on all counts. It has become an utter nightmare to shop there. Generally speaking, there are never enough cashiers. Sometimes only one, with a line to the BACK of the store. Not kidding. They had self serve machines for awhile but those are gone. It's always hot and stuffy in there, really unpleasant. The manager is unhelpful, rude, and forget it if you have an issue, he could care less. To top it all off, they now are checking receipts! Which is a joke because the registers are about 15 steps from the door. There's nothing to take! The person checking receipts can literally see every person checking out, no counters in the way. SO ridiculous. Ross is not the place you go for a pleasant shopping experience, it's for good prices, I get that. But this particular Ross is the worst. read more

My last visit here was yesterday. Needed a quick suit or meeting. All three on rack had jackets stapled to back of pants. There was no way possible to try it on not to mention the stapling ruined the fabric. I went back to the fitting room and the woman working there said I had to try it on like it was..I explained it wasn't possible she shrugged. I went to security asked if they would remove staples so I could try them on. Well..l even security wouldn't but cut me in front of 15 people in line to have cashier do it. Cashier now pissed off not to mention everyone in line. Went back to rude obnoxious fitting room person who is now pissed because I had staples removed. Tried them on but the staples had ruined them too much to buy. I asked Ms. Obnoxious where she wanted them and she just glared at me and would not answer. So I was going to put them back and when I started to walk away she started yelling LADY! LADY! lady!!!!!! So loud shoppers stopped to stare at her. She was beginning to get accusatory like I was stealing them. They need better management here that can train people. Horrible experience never again. read more

WOW, I usually hate Ross stores but this one was super cute things and I found so many cute items at a discounted price! I was able to find some uggs and some robert loafers. Not to mention some cute sandals for under $15! I found so many steal deals here and possibly could be because they are down south. Look okay I've been to PLENTY horrible Ross locations in LA, and you uppity people here in the 805 don't know how good you've got it compared to the mess out there in the world with the other locations. You need to look around you and be thankful for this location. Learn to appreciate shit. Cause this Ross location is better than most. Yes you could improve the candle section, and bedding (comforter sets) could be a little better, but your SHOE SECTION, your spices, and your home decor and gardening sections are more than anyone could ask for, Ross! Now the skin care section is below average, but I don't come to Ross for skin care. Skin care is reserved for Marshall's and TJ Maxx ONLY. Terrible customer service and no desire to help. I wanted to try on the shoes, but as often happens, they were hooked on the anti-theft part incorrectly and the right shoe was on the left and the left on the right, and the rope prevented putting on the shoes. I asked the workers in the hall, they said that they are busy and I need to go to the cashier. There was a huge queue at the checkout and, as always, only 2 checkouts worked, the third checkout was closed. I went to the cashier of the cash register, which was closing, so that she could take off the anti-theft and I could try on shoes. She had the opportunity to help me, but she refused and said that I needed to stand in line for another cashier and then she would remove it. She answered this dismissively and in general in this store I often encountered rudeness. What is the problem, this cashier could remove the anti-theft cord for me, I would change that shoes and decide whether to buy shoes or not. Instead, I have to stand in line for shoes that I maybe not buy. Very often, the people in the hall at this store simply ignore you when you ask them about something. I don't know who picks up the staff, but Ross in Goleta is much better and the staff is more polite and overall the store is tidy and doesn't look like a junkyard like this one read more

The lines here are always unnecessarily long. I don't think I've ever seen 2 registers open. Definitely not a place to quickly grab anything. Expect a 30+ minute time in line. The men's department usually is fairly empty. Everything department is usually a mess. Save your time and go to Marshall's downtown. read more

The cash only checkout line was very long as usual with one cashier. The credit card only line/ self checkout was empty. Was shopping with a disadvantaged teen and her 2 year old, who was crying. Checker said we'd have to wait in the cash only line because we had 9 items instead of 8. I'd been shopping with these teens for years and was never turned away from the credit card line. I pleaded to let us through the empty credit card line. New policy, not good considering there was one cashier in the cash only line, who had to take off hangers, remove tags, and handle cash for each customer. I asked for the manager and she wouldn't come. A customer began to heckle me and the child cried louder. After we checked out I asked for the manager again. After a long wait she appeared and was, as suspected, very young. She said she had to follow corporate policy. Not blaming the employees for the rule and enforcing it, but I do blame them for refusing to bring the issue forward to their higher ups and the corporate office. When I asked, the manager pointed to a bulletin board and told me I could call her myself. Rude, but I wasn't surprised. read more

I'm not a huge fan of this Ross. The discounts are for sure worth all of the digging, but this particular store can get pretty dirty and cluttered. Also, ever since the bigger Ross opened in Goleta, I feel there are better quality items being sent to the Goleta store than to the Santa Barbara store. I'll still continue to shop here and look for deals on items but it's not my first choice. Some of the nicer items I've found have been destroyed from being tossed on the ground or a sticky child got to it. Too bad, with a little TLC, this could be a great location. read more

I asked 3 times to get someone to clean Poop in the bathroom. 45 minutes later after talking to the acting manager twice couldn't get anyone to clean the bathroom. I took 14 items to the changing rooms, parked my cart, and took the eight and you're allowed to take in one trip. When I came out, I went directly to the only employee working in that section, showed her which items I was taking, and which items I was keeping, gave her my returns, put the items I was keeping back in my car and grabbed the rest of my clothing to try on. When I came back out of the changing room, my cart was empty! I had spent almost 2 hours picking out those items and I wanted them. I asked the girl working in that department where my cloths may have gone. She repeatedly said she did not know, offering no assistance or interest in my concern. When I asked her who may have came to take clothing away she said nobody, then finally pointed to some racks of clothing returns and allowed me to look. I found one of my items there but not the other. The items still missing was my favorite and I was becoming upset. It was obvious the girl working that department took the items out of my shopping cart and tried to return them to the stores floor, since nobody else was working in the department and she said no other employees had by come while I was in the changing room. She repeatedly denied it. I started looking at the other return racks she had in the area and she tried to stop me from doing so, telling me that I was not allowed. I finally found my pants in those racks, and went to the front to check out. When checking out I asked to talk to the manager about this situation. A woman named Parisa was brought to me. I told her the entire story and her response was to tell me "I had to side with my employee. Maybe she was was busy" ( there was only one other customer entering the changing room while I was interacting with this employee) I told this manager that her response was not appropriate, and since I was increasingly upset by the treatment I was receiving I asked for some kind of compensation. She said no, but reluctantly told me she would talk to the employee who had caused me the problem. Unbelievable! read more

In the 80s and 90s Ross was one of my shopping hubs. Back then the buyers would score collections by well known department store brands. I could put together cute mix and match outfits at great Ross prices. Now, this kind of offering seems to be no more. You might want to go with zero expectations and just see what catches your eye. I'd say that you could be luckier with accessories for home or personal fashion than for basic items. Stopped in to this previous favorite location last night and was surprised to be greeted by a young man in a suit out front. While he was very polite, I had the sense of being welcomed by a bouncer. Then inside the door a security guard was the next to welcome me. Hmm, something has changed! Once I made a few selections and walked the gauntlet through parents' worst nightmare - racks of snacks in the register line (!), I had to wait to check out. They had more security personnel working than cashiers. Not very helpful. The overall effect felt like shopping in a minimum security prison. Weird vibe. read more

Worst costumer service at this Ross no sense of urgency or help. After asking for help multiply times from different employees they all ignored us. My mom wanted to see a bracelet and lucy said she needed to wait in line after waiting there for 30 min. Mind you there were other ppl there asking for help in the jewelry as well and Lucy went ahead and helped them out but ignored us. This is usually our go to store, even with all the racial profiling they do at this location. My mom tried to make a return today and the cashier kept saying that she couldn't make a return with a mexican ID. My mom has made returns in the past with her mexican ID without a problem so I don't see why this time it was such an issue. Additionally the cashier, Isabella, who was assisting us made my mother feel very ashamed for not having a state ID. Very outdated items in this store. The worst thing about this location though, is the customer service. Today, the girl at the register straight up WALKED AWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TRANSACTION. Then, looks back at me and says" Oh, and by the way, that's your receipt". I was appalled. 5 ppl in line at the register, the lady decides to walk away and not deal with us. We wait for almost 5 minutes until another lady comes to attend us. Meanwhile the other lady isn't doing anything useful. Then when I'm at the register, the new lady has no idea what she is doing & locks herself out of the register, making us move to another down the way. No other worker came to assist but they walk around laughing at the situation. Corporate needs to fire who ever is in charge & get somebody that knows what to do & what to teach other employees. Monica was amazing. Parisa, one of the cashiers, was sitting there talking and not working. To the point that two young men walked up and cut off the line and enter straight to her and she just finally decided to work. Of course the rest of us were upset. She did not apologize and continued to help the young men, that she seemed to know, and disregarded us that were in line. Someone mentioned that when we said something she made a rude face. Generally I love Ross, however many of the employees seem to loathe their jobs and do not pay close attention to checking out customers and removing the heavy duty security tags with the ink attached to items such as rugs and clothing. Last week I went in got some jeans for my three year old, for some reason the security tag was placed inside the back pocket of these toddler jeans. Unbeknownst to me I took the price tags off and put the jeans on my three year old. I couldn't understand why she was screaming crying bloody murder until I took them off and found the pin needle from the security tag in the back pocket of these children's jeans with the stabbing needle stick thru the inside of her pant leg. Needless to say I guess I can't rely on people to properly do their jobs. Poor kid has a gash on her thigh now. read more
