Terrible Experience at Ross - Sterling, VA I had one of the worst customer service experiences ever at this Ross location. I returned a pair of shoes that I had not used, yet the assistant manager, Oprah, treated me with complete disrespect and accused me of wearing them. I politely asked her to walk with me to the shoe department to compare the condition of the returned shoes to others on the shelf -- many of which were slightly dirty underneath just like the pair I returned. She flat-out refused. Not because she was too busy, but because she knew I was right and still wanted to be rude about it. She yelled at me in front of other customers, saying the only option I had was store credit -- even though I had the receipt and paid with my debit card. I have never used those shoes, and I was being honest. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism, she was confrontational and disrespectful. I've shopped at Ross for years, but this was enough to make me never return to this location again. If this is how they treat honest customers, I can't imagine how they treat actual issues. Nidia ruined the great day my Mom and I were having. She yelled at my 70 year old mother. Then continued to literally yell at me. Even though there was no line, she demanded we walk through the ropes instead of go straight to check clerk. We were so embarrassed. It's now 10 pm and my elderly mom is still upset about it!! I wasn't going to write a review but my moms Distress pushed me to go ahead and write it. How disappointing. I feel so sad for her elderly family members. I'm sure she has no respect for them either. This woman speaks broken English, the twisted thing is that she acts like she is completely in the right!! This must be the Hispanic way. Get a life lady!! read more

Let me just say that I have been to a number of Ross locations. The majority of them are cluttered with a relatively decent selection of goods. Hence, I do not expect much. This location, however, was absolutely terrible. Extremely messy and disorganized. There were obvious areas of the store that had not been cleaned in a very long time (see photos). I mean, I get that Ross stores are usually left disordered, but at least keep it somewhat tidy for customers. Their selection of merchadise was also terrible. Maybe I came in on a bad day, but I noticed that their clothing styles were awfully outdated. What left me confused the most, were the amount of customers in the store. It was quite busy! Made no sense to me. I did not stay long enough to experience the customer service (I jetted out of there real quick) and will not be back. read more

I used to like to go to Ross but after today I don't think they have the same options as they did in the past. I think they changed the settings and threw away the skincare section completely. I was very surprised to see how disorganized this location is. I think Burlington down the street is so much better. This place hasn't had any renovations in many years it seems. Yes there are some bargain buys on clothing and household items, but the selection is limited now. They don't have many employees to maintain the floors and seems it's chaotic. read more

So, I'm giving this store 2 1/2 stars because they had what I was looking for. However, this place was a MESS!!!!! Shopping carts full of unstocked inventory everywhere, half of the shelf stock on the floor (see my photo of the rug aisle--*shudders*) and the lines..... I just had an awful experience that royally pissed me off. I would like to preface this conversation by telling you how well behaved my kids are. My husband and I are sticklers for our children's manners and behavior, especially in public settings. A Ross employee decided to discipline my child for me and reach her arm out like she was going to grab it. My child was Pointing at a toy. That's is all she did or I would have corrected her. This woman didn't see me standing behind her watching my children. Additionally, when I informed them that the soap dispensers were empty (I was just in the bathroom) she argued with me. I am sure she new how upset I was. This store is a MESS. Due to the poor customer service skills of the employees as well as how it physically looks. I am never going back. read more

I love Ross! This place needs some work though. Lately it's been very dirty, stuff ALL over the floor. It reminds me of a teenagers bedroom as far as shoes and "stuff" strewn on the floor. The dressing room attendants need a little training - Clearly if we are in line we would like to try on clothes. These clothes have a pretty good chance of coming home with us. It would be nice to be treated somewhat decently in the fitting room department. I understand the request to hang clothes back on hangers when we are finished, the lady scolded my daughter and ME for not hanging the clothes on the rack.. the rack was full and we were holding the clothes asking where we should hang them. The restrooms are hideous! I may drive a little further to another store next time. read more

I love a bargain, and if in the mood I don't mind sifting through the racks of places like this but honestly at this Ross over many years my luck in finding a good "find" has been minimal. This place is always a mess bordering on dirty, they only seem to minimally staff the check out lines, and the staff seem to act like they'd rather be elsewhere (which frankly I can't blame them). With the other discount store options nearby I generally skip this place all together unless I'm in the shopping center for something else and get a wild hair to go in. I generally regret that decision and walk out with nothing in hand. read more

they have great prices and seem to always find what I'm looking for. the store makes an effort to have all items in place and clean but I have found the place to be messy at times, many of the customers are to blame. I've seen customers leave unwanted items on the floor or in a different place than where they got it from. it's best to go on a week day, weekend it's a mad house- parents let their kids run around making messes. lines get long sometimes I'd recommend to have backups read more

I bought pair of shoes as a gift for my husband,he didn't like it because it was so tight for him.he just tried that on carpet on our apartment.after one week we went together to return or exchange that.we had the receipt as well,but the cashier did not accept return or exchange!!! She said this is our policy,No way...!!!!?? You can definitely find some nice items in this store. I have gone into more organized and cleaner Ross stores but it is still nice. As most Ross stores, it is always busy but that is too be expected. The only reason why I am giving this store 3 stars is because more often than not, only one person is working the register. I am not too sure if that bothers me for saying how long I usually spend in Ross. On one particular occasion, I went in to make a return. There was a customer in the line but after a couple of minutes of me waiting in the line, the customer in front of me just left. I waited about 5 minutes and then asked the one cashier working if anyone was available for returns. The associate said that his co worker was showing jewelry so I continued to wait. Another associate came up to the front and the working cashier asked her if she could do the return. Well she was clearly irritated and then responded, call Jenny to do it as if that one cashier wasn't completely busy with a line full of people. She then instructed someone putting away clothes to assist with the jewelry and asked Jenny to handle my return. When Jenny came over to assist me, she was clearly not happy and was very short with me as if I disturbed her. I recommend to management to make sure you train your associates on how to interact with customers.Particularly if you want them to return. read more

Probably one of the worst experiences I've had in a store. The same old blonde lady that greeted me at the entrance of the store came to accused me of trying to steal shoes because they didn't have the security lock they normally do. When I pointed out that it did have it, she confronted me asking me to show her, when she saw it, instead of apologizing she tells me I can't try the shoes. I mean seriously because I'm Spanish, you think I'm going to steal something, if this isn't race profiling I don't know what is. I was honestly having a good day so far until she decided to just be racist. I didn't want to make a scene at the store and left, there's no way i was going to buy something after being profile liked that. After I left, I called the store to speak to the manager, but apparently they don't have a manager, not until 4:30Pm that is... anyways, if you're of color you'll be harassed, they don't want your business there. read more

You can find good deals on clothing here but be prepared for a lot of lackluster colors, especially in the toddler boys department. I've never seen such a variety of black and gray shirts every single season, different styles but almost all of them are gray and some are black in color. The other thing is don't ever lose your receipt. They'll give you a store credit but for much LESS then what you paid for the brand new, tagged items. They claim they're ALL marked down now (lies, go check and find the same items tagged with regular prices) so you lose substantial dollars if you return the items without a receipt. I've never ever seen a store cheat customers that way. It's wrong. I had a brand new, tagged shirt that was bought and returned in the same season and I lost $5 on a $17 shirt just like that, easy peasy, good hard cash down the drain. read more

I love Ross stores especially since I don't have any around where I live (N.Y.). I travel for work and have been to many states and a Ross store is the first place I look up when I'm in a town. I looked up this particular place on Yelp and found it was given low reviews by former customers. I try not to judge (okay I really do judge but not inanimate objects, just people) anyway I walked in and noticed immediately how unorganized the place looked. The shoe area reminded me of my teenage daughters bedroom....crap strewn everywhere! I walked around a bit but and found the selections of home goods not too bad. The female clothing section I didn't bother to go near since it seemed like every person in town was in there. Upon leaving I noticed the check out line was still as large as when I walked in. Ross is one of the most disorganized and messy stores I've ever been too. I'm not sure how they think they're organizing their merchandise but to me it looked like everything was in one big pile. It's often really crowded (I'm not sure why) and the staff don't even care about customer service. They are rude and not friendly at all. This Ross was really messy no employees visible. Only 2 cashiers for 30 min line. First time here in a while, this place has deteriorate in management or lack of people scheduled. People spend money but I couldn't even go by the carpet section. It was a mess. Wow, I saw that it got 1.5 stars and realized that maybe people had experiences like me. I have been a faithful Ross customer since I was a teenager and for years, my experiences have been great. Today, I received the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED FROM A MANAGER AND WORKER. MOTHERS BEWARE. The first encounter I had was when the coworker asked that my kids not play in the racks close to me. Fine, I understand that- that was a reasonable request. I told her that they were out of carts and it was tough to corral them. She was nice enough to help me get a cart. So I continued about my way, finally making my way to the toy store. As soon as my kid touched and I mean touched a toy, not dropped, played with etc,, the manager on duty came over to me and said "are you buying that? kids are not allowed to touch the toys." This is not an exaggeration when I say they had their hands on it for less than a second. I was appalled and said "how do they know if they want to buy it or if it even works if it's electronic if they don't touch it." she said that was the rule and she was the supervisor. I couldn't believe it. A toy section where kids can't touch toys? I will be filing a formal complaint with headquarters. This is the only place EVER I would give negative stars if I could. read more

Don't stop off at your local Starbucks before going to this Ross they won't let you in with a beverage even if it's covered. There is no food and beverage not allowed signage and the security guard is very Persnickety. The store is not kept clean the racks are in disarray and the waiting line to check out is usually at least 15 minutes. There are better Ross is out there go find a different one. read more

They were poorly staffed with only 3 people working the entire store and the line was long. The security guard was socializing instead of watching the store. I've been in better Ross stores. I visited this location on a weekday morning and it was pretty organized. However, their marked down or clearance is just awful. Everything is so picked over. I found no good deals. Their prices are way too high in the marked down sections. I couldn't find a lot of xs ladies, misses or petite sizes. I won't be rushing back. read more

This place is AWFUL! I was there today. I walked in to the store and immediately noticed that an alarm was going off. For the next 30 minutes of my shopping experience I got to listen to the nonstop high pitch beeping. None of the employees seemed bothered by it, nor did it appear as if anyone was trying to fix it or call someone to fix it. I found a dress and an item for my pet that I wanted to purchase. I got in line behind 1 other customer. Please note that there were 3 cashiers working. 2 of the cashiers were having trouble processing the customers payments so the 3rd cashier kept leaving her station to go help the others. 10-15 minutes later...I still hadn't been checked out. Meanwhile, at least 5 other employees were wandering around the store, and did one of the ever bother to open another lane? No. By this time there were 6 people behind me in line. Then out of nowhere a woman walks up to the front of the line and goes straight to one of the cashiers that had finally finished with a customer. When I spoke up and questioned it I was told by an older woman wearing a "Loss Prevention" jacket that the woman had been in line prior and had gone to the bathroom. I told her that I had been waiting in line for close to 20 minutes and that I hadn't seen her. Must have been a really long 20 minute bathroom break from line. The woman wearing the "loss prevention" jacket instructed me to get back in line and choose which line I'd like to stand in, which I did. She then walked up to the customer behind me and said to her "well since she doesn't want to pick a line, you can go ahead and pick a line"...refering that I hadn't chosen a line. WHAT?! Are you serious? I snapped back at her telling her that I had chosen a line and was waiting. I couldn't believe the LACK of customer service and the nerve that their employees had to speak to a customer in that manner. If I hadn't really like what I was purchasing, I'm pretty sure I would have thrown the stuff on the ground and walked out of the store. STAY AWAY! read more

I love a good bargain but this store makes it hard to spot one. The store is a mess and things are all over the place. I mean ALL OVER. They only have one register open even though there are 10 people waiting in line. When they call another cashier to come to the front, they usually take a good 15 minutes to answer the call. Plan on digging through the piles to find a bargain and to have an hour to kill waiting to check out. read more

The customer service was terrible. Being a paying customer, I stood in line, while all the returns were taken and making no money for the company. When I asked if the cashier was going to take more returns, she replied nastily, do you see anymore? I left my cart and walked out, vowing to never shop in a Ross again.
