I'm writing this primarily as a shout out to really excellent customer service I received here over the weekend from Rebecca, the manager, and Deloris. There were other employees too who were friendly and helpful though I didn't catch their names. Have you ever felt that people were working to ensure you had a positive shopping experience? That was very clear to me and appreciated . Care of this quality is what makes me a lifetime customer of World Market. As for products, I really like interesting, beautiful, and unusual objects and I seem to always find so many things that span those categories here. It's like going into a thrift store that only has cool things! World Market is my happy place! I have to keep myself from going there weekly because I spend way too much money. They have beauty products, eclectic clothing, furniture & decor, international food, and WINE. It's like a cool mix of Pier 1, Trader Joe's, Total Wine, and a local fashion boutique all in one. I never know what I'm going to find when I go but I know I'm going to love it. I travel all the time (well, pre-COVID) and I find so many of the cool items I enjoyed in different countries. I recently found a bar cart after searching and searching online and they even brought it out to my car for me. If you've ignored this store like I did for many years, stop and go visit. We had a phenomenal shopping experience with the help from Geena. She helped us sign up for deals and coupons, and locate items needed seamlessly. Her knowledge around the system and attentiveness shone greatly especially after we had experienced terrible customer service and incompetence at other retailers like West Elm, Crate&Barrel. I had the most pleasant experience at World Market today. I was having a particularly bad day and when I went to find Chinese noodles My I noticed that they had been moved again as they often change their displays. I hadn't been here in awhile. This fueled the frustration. I wasn't sure of the price. It looked like $1.59 per pkg. but it was actually $1.99. Darby, the cashier noticed my concern and she did a price check anyway instead of doing the whole nonchalant "tough luck" attitude. It turns out she was right. I don't have the best eyesight in dark corners with a lot of shadows. Long story short, Darby went above and beyond the call of duty and provided superb customer service. She was patient, pleasant and courteous toward me the entire time. 5 stars all the way. Thank you Darby. You're the best!! read more

I love World Market stores for their unique items and feel. Too bad this location follows the classic retail protocol of watching or ignoring what they (incorrectly) deem as undesirable customers that frequent their store. I was up for check out when no other customers were present, the clerk ignores me and immediately recognizes the two individuals that come after me later and offers to ring them up. The customers asked if I wanted to go ahead of them out of courtesy, because they could see I was there first. I declined out of anxiety. I wonder if her associates were aware of her decision, because another clerk immediately came to the register after being on break and offered to ring me up when she saw me, eagerly throwing in a bunch of discounts (classic move) while she was at it. Who knows. Also, prior to this experience, there was a clerk who was at the register staring me down as I was in the candle isle. read more

Being from CT, I have only ever seen World Market's web site and their store from the highway...as I sped by, unable to stop. Pulling into the parking lot with my family, I half expected to see an enormous standalone World Market building. Nestled between a Bed Bath & Beyond and Best Buy, it's actually quite unassuming. For those of you who don't know what World Market is, it's something like Pier 1 Imports on steroids. They sell rugs, furniture, wall art, frames and lighting here, much like Pier 1. That's where the similarities end. There is a large selection of specialty foods & beverages. For the coffee lovers, they have the largest selection of Torani products, that I have seen under one roof. There are shelves of syrups (sugar free too!), sauces & coffees. They have an awesome assortment of mini versions of your favorite oils, sauces, cheeses, meats, teas & coffees. I even found a small bottle of Truffle oil. All of these things would make great gift basket fillers or stocking stuffers. You can also find unique candies and hard to find sweets. I found my favorite Canadian treat, the Coffee Crisp. Score! Oh, and I have to mention, that they sell seasonal alcohol and wine here. When have you ever seen that at Pier 1? Come on New England, we need World Market in our lives! At checkout, the woman that helped us, was very accommodating. My husband changed his mind about an item that he was purchasing, and she nicely told him to leave it with her. She was also very careful when packing our goodies, placing our coffee syrup and Narwhal ornament in their own bags, to keep them from breaking. I cannot wait to visit this store again. Thank goodness, it's only a short distance from our VA family's home! read more

Good place to find rare and often not offered at your local or national chain food stores. This visit, I purchased 6 varietal of mostly reds (Merlot,?Cab Sav, Red Blends, Pinot Noir) and 1 white (Chardonay) and a pack of 6 I picked from a great selection of beer, for my hubby, of course, the beer drinker in the family, from dog fish pale IPA to Heffeweisen Belgian varietals and a Bitburger. The latter was a favorite having domiciled in a town in Germany of the same name in the mid 90s... I also purchased a set of matcha sticks in a nice looking tin, a pack of wafers, pack of butter cookies and while I heavily entertained getting other exotic only made in other countries stuff, I restrained myself and opted out of would be too much indulgence not so healthy stuff. Still, this place offers other choices than usually stocked at your nearby grocers. Good place for affordable wines and beers of the world if you find Total Wine absolutely overwhelming. This place offers solace and calm as an alternative, similar to Trader Joes if not for the furnitures and other household necessities or excess, depending on one's learning curve. read more

I work for this company not this location but this company for a while all I got was a busted back and a bunch of medical bills they refused to pay for the injury that they caused we also had by the way three fire code violations numerous health and safety violations and three Ada non-compliances. This company is nothing but a bunch of shysters and liars thieves unethical just very unethical. And that's right folks they Don't Care about you the customer or their employees they just want your money. read more

They are suffering from a lack of help. I went to check out with my 10% off coupon and the clerk had no idea how to process it. She asked a more senior person for help and the only response was that sometimes the system doesn't work. No workaround available other than to pay full price and hope for better luck next time. This is my usual go to spot for Marmite. Don't say, "Ew," Haters. It's a staple in my house. That have all kind of little packages of food from around the world. World Market, get it? Housewarming presents? Oh, yes! Wine? Oui! They even have a membership thing,,, not sure how it works exactly, but you get bombarded with emails and a special discount email around your birthday. I picked up my Hello Kitty order yesterday and the associate who helped me named Dolores commented about what's up with people who loves Hello Kitty?! She said she doesn't get why people would line up in the cold just to get Hello Kitty stuff. I love Hello Kitty so I was offended by her comment. You as a company is selling Hello Kitty stuff so for her to criticize the people who are buying Hello Kitty is appalling! If not for people who buy your stuff, how would you stay in business! She's not the only associate who has given me an attitude when I pick up Hello Kitty stuff. Other associates at the Fairfax location too! This complaint must be conveyed to everyone so that they know how their comments are offending customers! read more

They were super kind and were able to get my order ready and made the necessary changes to my online order so I wasn't double charged. My first time in a WM, and I'm glad this was my first city, as I hear the one in NYC is not up to par. This WM was spacious and clean. I didn't know what I"d find, but I was not disappointed in the selection of goods. The store was light on staff, but it was Sunday and there were few customers in the store. The store was organized and it was a pleasure to look through everything. I didn't feel pressured, watched or rushed. I think I was meandering through that store for an hour just wishing I could buy more. This is a great location. If you are in this part of VA, visit. read more

My husband and I found out that a dining chair that we've had our eye on was on sale. I called yesterday afternoon and spoke to a wonderful employee who was kind enough to not only check their inventory on their system, but she even went to the back and confirmed that they had several boxes of the chair in the correct color on the shelves. She didn't want us driving all that way only to find that the system was incorrect or the color was wrong. I was very grateful for this because we were an hour away. Upon entering the store, we found an employee and asked about the chairs. She called for her co-worker who handles the furniture. Turns out, this was the same woman I had spoken to hours before so she knew exactly where the chairs were located! She brought the chairs out 10 minutes later, and she even wheeled the box to the curb so we could load it into our car. She asked to sign our receipt to confirm that we had received them and bid us a good night. This experience was very quick and convenient! We were in-and-out in about 15 minutes. They offered fantastic service, and I highly recommend them. read more

It's "Mother-in-Law Birthday Eve". I am 75 miles away home. Mr. TeeJay calls to say, "I'm at Williams-Sonoma. I want to get Mom a new set of place mats. $48 seems like alot to pay for a set of 4?" Ummm, well, when you need 8, and you must get napkins to go with...yeah, it's a bit much. Don't get me wrong, I am all about paying for quality (have you seen my shoes?), but place mats & napkins? His clan has 18 family members, and he hasn't even priced the napkins, which are a must..."Please, back away from the mall. Meet me at home in an home in an hour". (53 minutes & 35 seconds later) I slid into the driveway sideways. "Get in", I said. We cruised over to World Market. Upon arriving in the place mat department, Mr. TeeJay was pleased! They had a nice selection, and he found a great set of place mats & napkins to fit Mom's taste. (yea, okay, I had to dismantle the "display", but it was for a good cause). 8 placemats and napkins to match...$50! We also got some fun "retro" candy for my Daddy (Blackjack & Teaberry gum, maple candy, etc.). Next thing I knew, our 2 hand carts included a couple bottles of wine, a cast iron skillet, a cat toy, a couple jingle gifts, and at least one "As Seen On TV" item. Check out was kinda a bitch. One gal, 12 people in line and a price check! Come on, kids. It's a Saturday! Plan ahead. Finally, they added another checker. Oh well. For the loot we carted out, and the price we paid...what's a few extra minutes wait? read more

This is a good store. It's like a pier 1 imports on steroids plus international grocery. I love coming here for imported european goods such as cookies/candies that you can't find anywhere else. World Market is a fusion of Pier 1 Imports and a food market. You can find a span of kitchen and bar ware items to furniture, knobs, knick-knacks and everything in between. They even have a WINE section. The store is kind of ecclectic but there's something for everyone to find and or stumble upon but not neccesarily purchase. read more

If you know me well, you'll know that my friends could easily recreate the UN. I LOVE all things international and World Market is my cup of tea. It is sort of like a Pottery Barn but cooler and more international. Besides offering cool ethnic furniture and home decor at reasonable prices, they also have all sorts of wine, beer, coffees, teas, jams, cookies, biscuits and snacks from around the world. It is here that I come to get my Illy espresso beans. I still make espresso the old fashioned way, using my old fashioned caffetiera. I also come here to get wine gift bags and cool little gifts here and there. I love their kitchen section. It's also one of the few places that sells Fiji Water by the case. Just ask :) read more

There is such a lack of customer service in this store that I don't think the staff nor the managers could even spell it. Do not waist your time trying to buy furniture at this location. Extremely rude and arrogant personnel. I bought a floor model of a sofa. Despite promising me that they would take the sofa off the floor and store in the warehouse, the sofa was still on the floor after 3 days when I came to pick up. It was not even wrapped. The excuse was that they did not have space. When I asked why they did not wrap it so that customers would not sit on a sofa that was already sold, I was told by the manager that I did not specifically request that. It seems like that the incompetent staff including the manager have no common sense. read more

Went for the first time yesterday. Made a beeline for the food section in the back. I was in foodie heaven! Lots of hard to find specialty cookies and candy from other countries. The furniture and other home decor items did appear to be reasonably priced and of good quality. However I was so focused on the treats I can't say for sure. I just had the greatest experience as a customer at the Cost Plus World Market in Sterling, VA. The staff went above and beyond, and truly care about the customer. One person who really stands out is Walesca. I've had an ongoing problem with some shelves and shelf brackets. I was having issues since back in September with ordering the wrong size and then some of the shelves and brackets were damaged. I finally got everything squared away today, after going back three times, and every time, she was the one who steered me straight. She truly gets customer service, she's professional, polite and very caring. I would highly recommend you try to keep her, because where ever she goes, I will surely follow. She is a wonderful example of what a model employee should be, she's definitely a diamond in the rough, and coming from a retail background, I know what I'm talking about. Every one is friendly, they say hi and ask if I needed assistance. They go above and beyond to make sure your shopping experience is a pleasant one. I would highly recommend this store and if you have any issues, certainly work with Walesca. She'll definitely take care of you like she did for me. I also wanted to add that Shanita was an excellent help as well. Every time I had an issue with the shelves, she was the first person I talked to before being re-directed to the manager Walesca. Shanita was patient, kind, understanding, polite and very helpful. She too is an excellent employee who truly cares about the customer. read more

The World Market Store in Sterling is a treasure trove of fun, well-priced stuff, including furniture, housewares, food, wine, wall art, etc. for every season, special event, holiday, and all the days in between. This store has some very friendly and helpful people who will make your visit more fun! I had ordered three marble-topped Parisian style bistro tables, planning to choose one to use as a make-up table. I found them for a great sale price online at WorldMarket.com and shipping was free when sent to the store. This day in December, 2018, I was in the store to check out the three I had ordered, hopefully to be able to choose the one with the best looking marble top. A very nice guy named Darren went to the back and brought all three very heavy tables to the front on a dolly. When I asked him (and apologized beforehand) if he would open all three boxes so I could see which marble was best, he didn't hesitate (or give me the dirty look I deserved). He patiently opened each one (tightly packed in several layers of styrofoam and hard to pull out of the box). I said no to the first two, and chose number three as the best. He waited while I pulled up my car, carefully placed it inside and politely declined my offer of a tip for his hard work. I was so grateful for his excellent help, and great customer service that would make any store owner proud. Darren and people like him make this store the best World Market in the Washington, DC area---and maybe on the entire East Coast!!! read more

This store has so many treasures. It's like a little treasure hunt every time I walk in. You can find a little of everything from different countries to eat and decorate your home. I have to admit that I buy everything from furniture and paintings to wine and candy. World Market is one of my favorite "go-to" stores. I was surprised to learn that they carry a wide assortment of affordable, highly-rated wines. My favorite discovery is the Santa Julia Cabernet Sauvingon, which is a steal at $10 per bottle. They have a large assortment of Haribo gummy candies and other international treats. read more

While I don't want to complain about the Sterling store, I tried to place an on line order and I live in a new neighborhood. It appears their system is not updated in a timely manner so it did not have my shipping address as a valid address so I could not place the order. I asked if they could send (1) of the 14 curtain panels I wanted to the store so I could buy it there (my card works everywhere, just not on their website) and I was told that I couldn't be helped. Wow, a potential large order lost because the customer service manager "couldn't help me". I will NEVER shop again at a store that I have been using for years. Should have been such an easy thing to order drapes for my house :( read more
