BEWARE: We hired Johnston's for a chimney inspection and cleaning, we were told by our technician…read morethat we had glazed (Stage 3) creosote buildup -- but were advised to simply keep using the fireplace and burn hot fires to reduce it. After research and hiring a CSIA certified company, we learned this advice is directly contrary to established safety guidance. Stage 3 creosote is highly flammable and requires chemical treatment or professional removal before a fireplace can be safely used again. The Chimney Safety Institute of America is explicit on this point. Following Johnston's guidance in our report could have caused a chimney fire. We requested a refund given that the inspection included advice that put our home and family at risk, they refuse to acknowledge their fault. We did not feel we received an accurate or professional service. We will be sure to look for that CSIA certification going forward, there are plenty of family owned-- in business for decades, chimney companies in our area that can be relied on to give safe and accurate advice.

He discovered spiderwebs inside the outdoor heat pump had blocked the transmission of data from the heat pump to the furnace. A first for me! He, of course, had seen it before. Once he had cleaned out all the webbing from the inside of the heat pump, the pump came back to life, and we had heat again. Art Newsome is the greatest HVAC company. My A/C unit went out on Friday, I called, and they were here within the hour to check it out. They told me that my compressor had gone bad, and unfortunately, since it was late Friday afternoon, it would be Monday morning before they could get a new one to replace it. Bob felt so bad that we were going to have to go all weekend with no A/C that he decided to give us FREE tickets to go see the biggest NASCAR race of the season at Langley Speedway on Saturday!! If that wasn't enough, he even invited us to come up into the skybox and watch the second half of the race with him!! It was SO much fun, my son LOVED every minute of it! Monday came around, and while they were installing my new compressor as planned, they found pieces of metal in the copper pipes, which could have possibly caused the new compressor to be ruined immediately. Instead of just ignoring that and continuing with the replacement, Bob went through the trouble of making sure it was taken care of and done properly. After some investigation and a few phone calls, he ended up getting us a brand-new replacement unit from the manufacturer since the issue was their fault. They installed the new unit the very next day, and we've had nice, cold A/C ever since. :) Seriously, it was a great experience all around working with these guys!!
