Plumbing repair. Simple stuff. Original cost was to be about $400. Tech on site punched in repair (I had described the repair when I put in request), came back $800. Pulled the toilet, punched in more on tablet, came back $1300 - to REPAIR a flange and replace a spigot. I refused to authorize the service. Not just high priced, but bizarrely priced. When technician finally arrived at the end of the six hour time window, he confirmed my acceptance of an $89 charge before starting work. When I bought a new townhouse in Virginia Beach Va. The first thing I did was call Michael and Sons. They installed a new HVAC system in my house. I became a GOLD member, which I was led to believe that gave come preference when it came to a request for a service appointments. Well , it seems that it means nothing. I had my AC go out today and called them to come out and check why it wasn't working. However, given the emergency of this request, they could only get someone out to my house in 5 days, at the earliest time. That, and other than nichel and diming me to death, they never given me the priority that promised as a long term customer. Needless to say, I fired them and and canceled my gold Membership. I had just contracted a company who I had been a customer with and they said are coming tomorrow to fix my unit. read more

What was I paying this astronomical fee for if I get standard wait times? Bait and switch. If I could put the screen capture from their website I would. Technician was scheduled for a 10-12pm HVAC Cleaning & Check-up and didn't show up until 1:20pm without even calling. Their website clearly states: $69 HVAC Tune-Up HVAC System Clean & Check ($119 value) Restrictions may apply. Not valid with any other offers. Technician states the service for today was only to check the system then discuss the additional charges to clean the system after you pay the $69. After showing him the website advertisement he was asked to leave since he could not perform the service at the advertised price. read more

I don't know why it says I am in California. I am in Richmond VA. My HVAC issues started in August 2025 and continued now in March 2026. I have had technicians come out 5 different times and the issue is STILL not fixed. I recently paid $600 and the issue still wasn't fixed. My outside unit wasn't doing anything even though the thermostat said it was cooling. They cleaned everything and said now it's fixed, it wasn't. They then said I needed my ductwork replaced- how the ductwork affects the outside unit from working is beyond me- and the manager agreed with me! They refused to send someone to fix it, only to replace the ductwork so I said I'm going to have to use another company and the manager hung up on me! Terrible company. I would give them zero stars if I could. read more

Prices were outrageous. We couldn't even afford for them to perform a leak test on our gas pipes. They quoted almost $900 just for the leak test. We were able to find better and more affordable service elsewhere for less than half of what they quoted. read more

First HVAC for me to own, no issueswith system. 6/2024 called to get their $49 special for cleaning coils, inspection, etc. Technician wouldn't even clean the coils immediately said I had to replace the whole unit for $10,000!! Sunday the 8th I noticed a melting plastic smell in my laundry room. Monday I realized the source of the smell was my hot water heater so I called Michael and Son, explained the smell and scheduled someone to look at it ASAP, which was Tuesday morning. A plumber came out and replaced the thermostats which were bad. I paid $350 for this and still smelled the burning plastic so they sent out an electrician the next day. The main wires powering the hot water heater were burning which was the source of the smell. The electrician explained the wires inside the wall were also starting to burn. We were incredibly close to a house fire and now the entire hot water heater had to be replaced. Michael and Son wanted 2k to replace the water heater and that was subtracting $400 to compensate for the $350 I paid to repair the water heater I had to now throw away. We chose not to use them at the hot water heater was only $600 and we could replace it ourselves and pay the electrician $156 to wire it up properly. $1244 for labor was absurd. I spoke to the plumbing manager and was told that since I had hot water when the plumber left they did their job and I would not be refunded my money unless they did the install for the new heater. I never didn't have hot water, my issue was burning plastic smell which wasn't resolved. The plumber missed the real issue and it could have been catastrophic for my family. I'm not upset the plumber made a mistake, we all make them but the right thing to do is take responsibility for those mistakes. I asked to be put in touch with customer relations at the plumbing manager was unwilling to help me. I was told I'd be contacted in 24 hours. I have not heard anything from customer relations. All I asked was my money returned minus the $65 service charge because they did come to my house, I do owe them that much. I'm even willing to pay for the $12 a piece thermostats. Yet I've been blown off. This is no way to conduct business and because of it I highly recommend against using this company. Both the plumber and electrician were people I'd hire again if they worked for a different company as they were very professional and courteous, despite the mistake. But the managers at Michael and Son clearly do not care about the customer. Their bottom line appears to be most important. read more

I had a problem with my water heater and called Michael & Son. The technician showed up on time and was friendly but wanted to charge me $689 to replace the burner assembly on a $400 water heater. Of course I wasn't going to pay that so I called the manufacturer looking for the part. Found out all I had to do is push the thermal reset button. Shouldn't the Michael and Son technician have known that? What's worse is I'm out $69 for a "dispatch fee". I know they have a reputation for being pricey but I didn't know they would try to rip me off. read more
