Rio Vista is such a small town for such a unique restaurant! Feels like you are in an old saloon! Their hamburgers and fresh cut fries are the best! The chicken strips are real, like your grandma's! I was impressed by the menu that has more than steak and burgers which they are known for in the area. I had the fried chicken fingers and their home fried potatoes that were delicious. The price was very reasonable as were most items on the menu. Our young waitress was trying very hard to make our visit comfortable but didn't know that they were out of some things. You'd think that we were back in a saloon in the old west with the way it was "decorated" and furnished. Well, never having been in an old Western Saloon it was interesting. This place is amazing. Been eating here for years. The decor and atmosphere is so cool. Steak night never disappoints. I've driven from Fort Worth to eat a steak here. It's one of the best steaks you can get! The burgers are great as are the quesadillas. Never had anything bad here. It's a bar and grill however they really are famous for their food. Steak Night has still got it's groove! I'm so happy Roughnecks has managed to weather COVID, supply chain, and staffing issues to continue delivering incredible food. Roughnecks is THE place to be for Friday dinner. $30 gets you salad, a loaded baked potato the size of your head, and a "16 oz." steak that is actually more like 24 oz. The steak is cooked and marinated to absolute perfection - no A1 needed here. It's nearly impossible to finish everything on your plate, but who doesn't like leftovers for second dinner? My mom veered away from steak, ordering buffalo chicken tenders - they were massive. She had four on her plate, and she only managed to eat one. We were all thoroughly impressed with the quantity, quality, and flavor of our food at Roughnecks. The staff was nice enough, if not a little on the sassy side, but there was no wait when we stopped in for dinner on Friday around 6:30pm. On a six day trip to the Lonestar state, my boyfriend and I ate a lot of really good food - but Roughnecks was his favorite. Please keep this place in business until our next visit. read more

Smoking inside permitted! :( Friendly server, fun decor. Dive bar feel. Kitchen took a while. Burgers seasoned, but dry. Fries were hand cut, but limp and greasy. Onion rings had a nice crunch and a were a little less greasy. We aren't smokers and that was bothersome to us, therefore we won't return. read more

I personally thought this was a pretty good joint. This is a really cool local place in Rio. Great place to stop if you're between cleburne and a surrounding city. Awesome decor and a good vibe to the place. The food was tasty. I had the arts grilled cheese which was pretty standard but my niece had the chicken basket which was very good. Great fried chicken strips. The fries were more of the less cooked variety and I'm a crispy fry guy so they weren't my favorite but I know some people love "soggy" fries. Took my grandkids to eat after school today, but one wanted Subway and the other one wanted Roughnecks. When I came in to the restaurant I was told I could not bring Subway in there. My mother, sister and one grandson had already been in there and placed their order before I got back from Subway. I understand an adult not being able to bring something into the restaurant, BUT telling a 5 year old he can't eat there because he had Subway is another or if we had not ordered other food. I will not be back in there for the rudeness I was received. Because after my grandson ate outside we went in to be at with the rest of my family that was eating. This is a hidden little gem off 174 in Rio Vista. We eat here quite a bit. Favorite is Steak Night which is Friday nights. Steaks have been grilled just right except one time when they were busy it was a little over done for our taste. Wife and I share one that's how big they are. If you share be prepared to pay $5 for an extra salad. The burgers have always been good as well as the fries and onion rings. Only have beer in which they have a good selection and are a bit more expensive than compared to most places around. So just have a few before headed there. There is live entertainment on some weekends and can play a game of washers in back room. Service is always prompt and food get out quick. It is worth a trip there anytime for a meal. read more

Needs Improvement. We were there yesterday and the food was OK but you couldn't get it all at once . They said they were busy cause they were the only place in town and a shift change. they left out my fries. they didn't give us our order of dirty fries that one of the girls ordered. we just did not want them after we had already finished our meal. Extremely slow no excuse. I ask two waitresses for hot sauce and no one brought it. the owner gave us some excuse about being swamped and busy and the only bar in town . from what we can see there were five people in the bar in the restaurant. maybe it's a decent bar but food service is terrible last time we were there the same guy burnt our burgers beyond recognition. I never had crispy meat before until I got there and the manager owner seem to have more weak excuses while he sat on his ass talking to his friend . they were just too busy with five people in there . if they're the only place in town like he said I would find another town. Maybe Blum or cleburne has a better place. read more

The last time I went to have supper and a few beers, I left after one beer and no supper. The bartender asked me what I wanted to drink. I said Miller Lite. She goes down to the cooler, gets my beer, then stands there talking to another employee for a pretty good while. When I said something about wanting my beer while it was still cold, her attitude was damn hard to put up with. She finally brings my beer and leaves me looking at the menu. By the time I finished my beer, she still hadn't come back to take my food order. At that point I decided I would go somewhere else. I think I'll keep on going somewhere else too. read more
