Who doesn't love a little country store? This place is grocery on one side and hardware on the other. They have everything you need in a one stop shop. They even have clothing. The prices are a little higher than regular stores, but I think it's the only option in this little town of 86 people (according to the population sign). They have fresh single serve pizzas that's actually very good. That coupled with my Dole lemonade (the best commercial lemonade I've found to date),made my grocery trip extra special. read more

Love this community store! It's a small town store that has everything from wine to cow cubes. Love the staff!!

Slow, rude, unapologetic and they close too early to be considered dependable. I chose other locations to shop. Anywhere else but here.

Unlike many people who have posted reviews on this site, I have shopped at the mercantile for many different reasons at multiple times. I think it's a great place to get breakfast, to get lunch at the deli, get fresh veggies and things like cold meds and tampons or gasoline. But in the middle of Round Top Texas you can also get paint, rope, bungee cords, plumbing supplies, rubber boots, electrical supplies or just about anything you can think of at prices that don't completely gouge you. I've shopped during antique weekend and when the show is not going one. I've been treated kindly ever time I've gone. I've used the restroom every time I've gone and have Never seen any sign asking for tips nor has there ever been anyone in the restroom asking for tips. Maybe they were just looking to be thanked for keeping the restroom clean during a time where potties can get a little stanky!!! read more

Great selection of groceries, and hardware. They have handmade sandwiches made with Boar's Head. The customer service is excellent.

Great store that has been providing great service for decades. I'm from the area and kind of shocked at the low star ratings. Never had a bad experience here. Always greeted by friendly employees. I do avoid Round Top during antique week. Its understandable that stores and employees will feel overwhelmed by thousands of extra people no matter how hard they try to prepare. read more

We have been stopping here for years. this is a local retail and is very tolerant of the rude in a hurry tourists that stop in. I doubt norma G. whether they care if you stop in again for you coke and chips you were buying. shame on you for taking the time to rant over your one experience. The Mercantile is a gem. this place has local meats , makes great sandwiches and an incredible selection of hardware store items. They also usually stock bread from the bakery in LaGrange, and coffee from independence. Oh and if you didn't like this place , for sure don't stop at Royer's , because he has no tolerance for your attitude either.... and you will MISS the best pie, and pork tenderloin i have ever had. read more

I stopped in here to get gas and there was a sign on the door not only asking for tips, but saying the restroom will be shut down if they don't get shown "appreciation." I took a picture to send to my mom WHO IS AN ANTIQUE SHOP OWNER and has a restroom in her store. Who gets very busy during "antique season." I was appalled at this sign but was planning on only showing my mom to giggle at. The owner stopped me and asked why I took a pic of the sign. Clearly knowing why, but she asked me anyway. I said because I think it's ridiculous to threaten paying customers to use the restroom that the restroom will be closed if they don't receive tips? Ha! Actually comical. I would have came back to the store and spent money next time I came through it they owner didn't question me and had a bad attitude about it. There are many other stores to stop in at, pass this one up and use a bathroom where tips aren't expected for a TODDLER to use the potty! And the owner isn't completely rude about it. read more

We recently stopped at this store on our way to the MS150 ride to Austin. A group of friends and I. My friend was ready to pay and a lady cuts and from of her and the cashier processes her transaction. My friends tells her that was rude! the dialogue ends up being about well you are from out of town so get over it. The cashier nor management wanted to do the right thing. I guess we will not be stopping there in the future! read more

I've been selling antique maps, old prints and art at Round Top for over 22 seasons and I have found what I needed at the Round Top Mercantile. There is always something I forgot to bring with me from Santa Fe so I am grateful that they are here with such a diverse selection of items when I am need for either bailing wire or a quart of milk ;)) Thanks. They just posted a sign that if you don't tip they're going to close the restrooms. This is my last trip here even though I like the place and usually fill up on gas and buy a soda and snack. What a silly and unnecessary business decision. Wow read more

What would we do without the Round Top Mercantile! Always friendly and helpful, always have what I need in a pinch. Cannot imagine the sort of person who could find a way to make complaint about anyone who works there. I figure they were young and still learning how the world turns.
