Overall, Round-Up is a lot of fun. A nice, Texas themed gay bar in the heart of the Cedar Springs strip. First off, compared to just about anything else in Cedar Springs, the place is huge! I counted 7 bars between inside and outside. So there's never much of a wait to get a drink (although I've never seen all 7 open at once). They have a big dance floor in the middle, a ground level patio out back and a rooftop patio which is great for aviation geeks like me to watch planes taking off from Love Field. The staff is always pretty cool. They pour a good drink and are no more or less expensive than anywhere else on the strip. It's worth keeping an eye on their events, too. They're also the starting point for the monthly Cedar Springs wine walk, which is a blast. Definitely a staple of this neighborhood. read more

Had been looking forward to this place for my birthday for a whole week as I was coming from another state with my best friend . Her and I were having a blast first couple of hours bartenders , drag queens, and music was on point . That is UNTIL JOE arrived and would become our new bartender. From the second he got there his whole vibe was negative in an off putting way. I had been paying the same amount for 1 corona and mixed drink the whole night and once he took my order he wanted to charge me over $20. I told him I wasn't going to be paying that much and he proceeded to tell me "well then you shouldn't be here." Ripped the ticket in my face and told the security to "Get them out of here" while security aggressively grabbed me and my friend mind you us being females in our mid 20s and waaay smaller than them I asked the African American bouncer "why are you pushing us out ?" and he responded "idk but you Fucked up with joe so you gotta go" I tried to explain to him what happened and he pushed me even harder and once I was almost out the front door he Then MACED my friend and I and slammed the door shut in our face. Always love going here with my friends. Such a good vibe but giving 3 stars instead of 5 because of a rude bartender. Not sure how he landed this job cause you would think you'd receive good energy here but not from this guy. (photo attached) Much love for this place but this guy is not a fit. Maybe he was having a bad night or maybe he's just rude but either way - when I wait in line for 10+ minutes, and see him scan the bar asking if anyone needs a drink while I stand there and motion I need one, I kid you not, this man looked me in my eyes and said "I see you" sarcastically and smile and look away instead of taking my order. Before that, we were in the middle of the computers between him and another bartender and according to him it was out of his way to take an order from anyone in the middle so you were forced to squeeze in front of his computer cause I guess taking 2 steps over to hear someone's order was too much to ask. Super odd. From working in the hospitality industry I understand the asshole customers, but I'm not one of them and he chose to treat me like I was an inconvenience. It had been years since I've been to the Round Up until this past Tuesday. My friends and I went in around 10pm. It wasn't crowded at all, but hell it was a Tuesday! I forgot how big this place is. We hung out in the karaoke room for a bit. It's just a small room with a stage, and a bar that takes up a good portion of the middle of the room. I never realized how pretty that room is. They have black old fashioned looking tiles on the ceiling, and beautiful stained glass wall hangings, and really pretty light fixtures hanging above the bar. There's a huge dance floor in another room with plenty room around that to stand around and watch the people dancing. They were doing some sort of line dancing tutorial when we were there. I think I remember seeing a pool table room and maybe an upstairs area. ? I'd been drinking some! hehe There's an outdoor patio that's pretty cool if you like cigarette smoke. Ugh. I noticed some windows that opened up to the bar inside so that's neat if you don't want to go back inside while you're on the patio. And the patio definitely had an upstairs area. If you're in to country music, pop music, karaoke or a good time...this is a good spot! read more

While we love and respect this place and their goals, I keep seeing bar tendets wearing "chin" masks. Look, that does not count. At least your employees can do better. Wear Your Mask. Even though it is very difficult to control the crowd, your paid employees should follow all guidelines. This is what brings us back at our own risk. I recently was in Dallas and went to the Round-Up. I have friends that live in Dallas and I visit there quite often. I don't often write bad reviews about businesses, but I was so angry about my experience that I just had to let people and the business know. Me, my partner and some friends went to have a quick bite to eat at Hunky's down the street (I ordered a slice of cake to take home) and afterwards, we thought we would go back to the roundup to have one last drink. As we were walking in my friends reminded us that we had to show our ID and before we could even pull them out the guy checking IDs said you can bring that in here you will have to eat it before you come in. First of all his attitude was UNACCEPTABLE! Second it was a very small bag that was stapled shut and lastly I hadn't even showed it to him! My friends were also a bit shocked and I felt as though it may have been a racial thing, because I was the only African American in my group. I would like to think that wasn't the case, but that was my gut feeling at the time. The round up has plenty of signage out side that says what you can and can not bring in, but nothings about a very small bag (or cake). I am sharing this experience because I feel people should know. Rude. I am not a picky person, and I can understand the rules and expectations of individual establishments and people. My sister and a group of girls went out to celebrate her birthday. My sister did dance kind of wildly, but instead of approaching us appropriately and asking her to stop, he yelled at her, "NO, DOWN". As if she were a dog. He said it several times. As well as other commands yelled in a broken and aggressive way. After he "barked" at my sister we began to leave and were escorted out by a "security guard" who followed closely and forcefully behind us. Our friend that was with us tried to explain the situation and he grabbed her finger and broke her nail. I said, "we're leaving, it's ok," to which my cousin said, "yeah we wanted to leave anyway because your coworker just called my cousin a 'whore'," which he did. He then said he had to follow us out anyway. After we exited the building, I told him we were out and he was good. We stood in front of the building for a maximum of thirty seconds before a separate male told us we couldn't stand there and waved us off of the porch. I visited Dallas this week with my partner and was thrilled to take him to Round Up on our last night since I'd had such a wonderful experience when I visited 3 years ago. But within 5 minutes of walking in the door (no exaggeration) we heard something horrible over the sound system: a drag queen hosting the boots and boxer briefs contest on a rant about "FTMs" (trans men) grossing her out and not being "real boys." This kind of transphobia is shocking and unacceptable anywhere, but especially in an LGBTQ establishment. As a gay trans man, I know that I'm not everyone's cup of tea. But hearing it from a date is one thing--hearing it from a host/performer in a community-oriented bar is another. Trans people are everywhere; we are valuable members of the LGBTQ community, and the bar owners need to speak with their performers about not alienating their clientele. 2 stars because everyone else was kind and respectful. But my night was really derailed by this encounter. Round-Up saloon left a bad taste in my mouth, and not in the fun way. read more

I came in on a Monday evening as I was traveling cross country and had an evening to spend in Dallas. This evening they had a drag queen doing a strip-tease competition and afterwards they had opened the floor for line dancing and swing as a country bar. They also had karaoke as they apparently have nightly at the front bar. The atmosphere here was very accepting and there was so much fun to be had on the dance floor with a small crowd (expected for a Monday late evening). This was my first gay bar to even go in and now for 20 years I've been going here and it's always the best time. I have spent more time here than any other bar. The music is great, the owners are awesome and most of the bartenders are friendly, though they have gotten a bit worse lately. ZERO country music................and I'm sorry, line dancing to popular sings is just plain wrong and hard on the eyes to watch. They have this dumb rule- several of the people dancing were wearing jockstraps or bare- assed underwear- and the bar made them wear thongs underneath their jock straps. You can't imagine how stupid these men looked..........but that's the Roundup's policy.............. I've been visiting Dallas for about twenty years- and prior to 2023 - I've always had a good time there - with good CW music........in fact the first time I heard Rascal Flatts was in the Roundup.......... PSA: If you are a beautiful woman or just a woman in general I strongly suggest that you avoid Round-Up Saloon. I visited Round-Up Saloon for the 1st time on Tuesday, 11/14/23. My 2 gay male colleagues joined me. The bar staff treated me very poorly. The male bartender intentionally looked passed me & served everyone else around me. After I waived my hands for assistance, the bartender proceeded to ignore me & serve other customers that had just arrived at the bar. I verbally request a manager but the bartender refused to get one. He mentioned that he just came from a concert he was volunteering to help out. I noticed a man that appeared to have authority so I approached him & asked if he was a manager. The man said yes but once I explained what occurred he rudely replied "go to another bar". I was taken aback, I thought to myself "am I really being discriminated against for being a beautiful woman in a "gay" bar?" Even my gay colleagues observed the way I (me specifically) was being treated. Although there were other bars inside Round-Up Saloon, I didn't want to be there any longer after poor disrespectful treatment. The staff made me feel unwelcome & extremely uncomfortable. I was singled out because of who I am. This was not one of those situations when a bartender might stop serving an overly intoxicated person drinks. It was more personal than that. I find it interesting how the LGBT community doesn't want to be discriminated against yet members of the LGBT community are sometimes quick to discriminate against others like in this instance. For a gay bar, they certainly lack tolerance... I've had a non-binary friend and a trans friend kicked out for using the "wrong" restroom... I have been there several times and I have enjoyed myself. We went and celebrated my birthday and we were asked to leave because a certain employee felt threatened by someone in my party.I asked for an explanation and all they couldn't give me as one employee felt threatened and never gave me an explanation but it like they were unsafe.... I totally understand that but explain yourself... so we can understand... and even apologize and move on but we didn't get that chance. I had a terrible experience tonight. I've been to this bar so many times and I feel like it's my home bar. I was standing not far from the DJ booth and the guy told me I was standing too close to him. The bar is very busy that night and I told him I was OK where is that but he calls the police on me and had to close to him. Not to be honest with you, I told him that was bullshit. Went in on Halloween in my mandalorian costume, no problem... went to several other bars... when I came back... they denied me... because I had a toy light saber. I asked to speak to a manager... when he came down... He said I couldn't come in with a weapon... I told him it was Halloween, and that this was not a weapon... I asked him if I could leave it with one of the bartenders that I knew... He said no... He said I could leave it at the front door with no supervision.(HA!) But he wouldn't be responsible for it... It's a $400 light saber... I told him no... And I said, thanks for ruining my Halloween... He said you're welcome then turned around and walked away... so i left. What an a hole. I went to several of the other bars and no one had a problem with it but this guy. What a joke of a manager to not find a solution... he was 1/2 my age, no people skills, and quite frankly just rude.... bad customer service... I would give them a negative one, if I could. Went in for the Karaoke bar. It was a fun atmosphere to enter. Bartender migrated to my direction. Just curious to know about the beers on draft and mentions the one I can't entirely see well. None of the other options up there are honestly something I'm truly fond of except for this Hoppadillo Brew I have never tried. I asked for a sample because some IPA's can definitely be too hoppy. Bartender goes: This isn't Baskin Robins (or some bullshit like that). "It's what my manager told me to tell you all" Then I ask how hoppy it really is (looking for a comparison to some other kind of brew). Definitely love this place when it's packed! They always keep enough bars open that the waits aren't 20+ minutes which isn't true at the other bars/clubs on Cedar Springs! Also, the drink prices here are the BEST and they still play good music. Friends and I just recently had a blast ALL NIGHT during the Oaklawn Halloween Party and I was shocked that I had never left a review of this play. No matter where we end up the night on Cedar Springs, we pretty much always start out at Round Up for the great prices, the awesome top deck area out back, and the ability to hang out and actually hear each other in the back bar. Between the country line dancing, karaoke, pool and good drink specials this happens to be my favorite "manly" bar on the strip. There is always dancing to be done and songs to be sung, but what has my heart is the laid back feel you get here. Doesn't matter how you dress, who you like or where you're from, you just blend with fun crowd. I've never had a sad experience here and am always glad I tried to give it a go on the dance floor. Though I've lost my west Texas dancing skills I never felt too rushed off the dance floor for not knowing what I was doing. This place is awesome on Saturday's at 1am. They consistently id which is always good. They play pop, hip hop, and a lil Madonna; I forgot what category she is in but u get the vibe. They have enough space where if your uncomfortable being in a tight environment you move around a lil bit. Nice place if you unsure where to take your friends to. read more

I have only been twice but did not enjoy it. They play country music until 12 , no one person was on the dancefloor on a Saturday night. Dancefloor lights are not great either and music selection is rather strange for a gay bar, mainly rap/hip hop. Drinks are cheap, no cover fee which is a plus . Only one suggestion: this place needs professional dancers who will dance with people who cannot find a dancing partner; and who can pump up the dance crowd. Other than that, this place is great! Upon walking into the place you feel welcomed by the staff. All the door people, and bartenders made us feel like locals, and although we don't live in Dallas, (we're from Los Angeles), we felt like it could be our hometown bar. We never waited for a drink more than one or two people in line, because this place has so many bars to get a drink from. The country music being played was sweet and gave us that warm fuzzy feeling. The patrons who we came in contact with were all very friendly and polite. If you like rugged manly men, this place is the spot. They've come to this spot in spades. You might be thinking you need to dress like a cowboy to come to this place; you don't. You would feel 100% comfortable in a cowboy hat and boots, but we saw guys in dress shoes, tennis shoes, t-shirts, sweaters, whatever. Most men wore jeans of some sort. This place is mostly gay men.
