In town for a business trip and decided to give Rounders a go. I'm so glad I did! I ordered a small pepperoni pizza, and it was delicious! I also ordered a side salad which I made at the salad bar. I also ordered the cinnamon sticks and they were very tasty. I took one star off for cleanliness. When I arrived there were a couple of tables needing to be bussed. After 30 minutes or so of enjoying my dinner two more tables needed to be bussed. They weren't too busy, so I'm not sure why the tables weren't being bussed in a timely manner to make way for more diners. read more

We ordered large pizzas and they refused to give us stix because we didn't say we wanted the special. We were told we could order cinnamon stix and pay for them. Messy but Magnificent. We tripped into this diner inspired little hole in the wall on hour 10 of our drive, with many miles more to go before home. The young'n behind the counter graciously pointed us to the faded and torn menu under plexiglass on the counter when we stuttered out some nonsense about finding them on the map. She ordered the cheese pizza, no sauce extra cheese, and I adventurously chose The Hornet. "That's a good one" the boy behind the counter said as he took my card. Oh boy howdy, he was right. "Squick, squick, squick" went out shoes on the checkered floor as walked into the dining room, waded through the salad bar exploded across the floor, and took a seat in a booth to await our pies. When I say I have never seen a cheese pizza with no sauce look that good...every pizza parlor, every chain restaurant we have ever gone to has burned my wife's "cheesy bread" to smithereens. This was a work of art. The Hornet had a lovely kick that didn't linger, sausage, ham, and pepperoni with excellent flavor, and a pizza base with the perfect balance of soft and crisp. Second time we have been. Fist time wasn't as bad but this time wasn't good. Restaurant was not clean. Salad bar was terrifying. It looked like kids had used it for a food fight. So gross. Not a busy night and our one pizza took 45 min. The table next to us ordered first and their one pizza came out 30 min after ours. Well, it may have come up earlier but no one bothered to tell them. They had to go get it. For the number of employees (granted all high school kids), nothing was done. No one seemed to care at all and there was no leadership present. The pizza sauce is just tomato paste out of a can. We had to scrape it off to make the pizza somewhat palatable. Wouldn't touch the salad bar after paying for all-you-can-eat. They also gave one plate and no clean plate options were out for round two. I know what that really means and no thank you. Very sad but never again. read more

Not sure what kept me from locking this place in at a 1-Star...but maybe it was the really friendly crew that was working there. It was very evident this place was hopping on a Friday night. I needed a quick pizza fix while in town on a short road trip. Thought this place would fit the bill. It did not, sadly. Ordered a small pizza and side salad. While assembling the salad I noticed how run down this place is, as well as how dirty it was. Tables that needed to be bussed, dirty floor, etc. Salad bar just average, but the pizza was horrible. Not sure when the crust was "hand tossed"...maybe a decade ago, but when I took my first bite, I would compare the crust almost identical to that of the cardboard box it came in. With this definition in mind, then by all means Rounders served me a pizza. The good thing for Rounders is the definition of Pizza does not include any reference to quality or flavor, which their pizza has none of. I wouldn't go so far as to say Rounders is un-edible because I would therefor be a hypocrite as I managed to eat my half of the shared pizza my friend and I ordered. However I would say that I would never go back. Maybe my expectations for Athens, TX were too high, but none-the-less I wasn't even slightly impressed. Could I sit here and write more words about my experience? Yes. Rounding up Rounder's to a 2.5 to 3 stars. 'Best pizza in town', maybe. That title is a good thing, but it's only because it's a small town with few other options. I was just passing through during lunch time, had a hankerin for pizza and now I'm here. Pizza is ok, nothing to brag about. Salad bar is ok, it has a few more than the basics. Spaghetti is ok, sauce is a little more than basic tomato sauce. It has a good 50's style atmosphere with a lot of local stuff. Not sure of it's a health code thing, but there are no refill plates for seconds or thirds like I've seen at any other pizza buffet place I've been to. The music playing, not sure if it is satellite radio, maybe there is a weak signal, maybe it's just hike I'm here and fine any other time, but it keeps cutting out over and over again. That needs to get fixed, very annoying. I'm not a local, so maybe the locals love this place. It is like able, and seems like a great place for families to come. I just think that if I'm passing though again at meal time, I'll probably be doing something different. read more

We agree the pizza may not be the very best we've had but it was very good. Had a pizza hut look to it (not quite deep dish but beyond hand tossed thickness). Sauce was good. Toppings were shy. The salad bar was relatively fresh. We had a nice meal and we would return if in town again. Wait staff was quite slow and somewhat aloof but since you have to order up front then sit down they really don't influence the experience much. read more

Bit the bullet and decided to give this old standby another try, and how glad I am I did. I have been eating pizza from Rounders since they opened in '94, and have always truly believed they had the best TASTING pizzas in Athens. They aren't the cheapest, but so what. I'd rather pay more for something I really enjoy and look forward to time and time again than go cheap and be cussin' myself for a disappointing meal. My Rounder's "Pride", the name they give their Supreme pizza, was the one of the best ones I've had in my 22 plus years of ordering them. Someone is back in the kitchen putting genuine pride into these babies. Well done Rounders! The teriyaki chicken wings have gone from tasteless almost sauceless micro-mini embarrassments, to nice sized perfectly cooked and sauced "wings of wonder". Again, thanks and well done folks. Tonight I'm gonna pray that whoever is in this kitchen stays there, because they have returned Rounder's to their previous glory of producing outstanding food and service. Only one tiny caveat, if you call it in they will tell you it will be ready in 15 minutes. Ain't gonna happen, never has, never will. Double it and you'll be fine. Very very good pizza! Love the crust and tomato sauce. Toppings are always fresh and tasty. It's set in an old gas station and decorated like a pizza place should be. We love the 70's classic rock always playing in the background. We've gotten used to eating Rounders Pizza every Thursday night. This pizza place has almost every pizza place in the area beat. The only thing I would change is they have an extremely standard, cookie-cutter style menu with ingredients to match. Their dough is good but crazy boring. Their buffet is slightly sub-par but you can order anything you want to your table like CiCi's. And it is good. Very good actually. I don't like how thick the crust is though. I think the pizza could be way better. Still, we come here often and enjoy it. Tuesday night is buffett night, 5pm-9pm. read more
