I am a huge fan of Rouses Market and this particular location is a good representation of the band. The staff are friendly and professional and I always come whenever I am in this part of the country to get some of the local items available at Rouses Market. Rouses Market, as I said, have a lot of great local items. I usually grab a few of the local beers as I have friends who like craft beer. I also get some Cajun and Creole items. My favorite neighborhood grocery store when I was visiting friends in New Orleans. Rouses Market was conveniently located close to UNO campus. It was a nice stroll from the school. The aisles were clean and always neatly stocked. The variety of products on the shelves were fantastic. The frozen food section was a feast for my hungry eyes. The cashiers and employees were so friendly, helpful and kind. They went out of their way to make me feel welcomed. I really appreciated the kindness shown to a guy from Hawaii. DEMECTRIUS, was SOOO nice and kind. He literally helped me and was very professional. He packed the groceries very neat and listened to all of my request with no problem. I was very impressed with how he greeted me and made me feel comfortable. He had some small talk, asking how was my day, then wished me Happy Holidays. I called rouses maybe 2weeks before my nephew birthday which was 11/10. 1st off their Rude Asf in the Bakery, Talking to a Store Manager is like talking to a brick wall. I placed an order for a spider man cupcake $35.99 , I can honestly say i put to much trust and faith into them .when i received his cupcake it was only blue and red Nothing on it represented Spider-Man . No Webs , No Cupcake Toppers NOTHING BUT THE COLORS . So my sister asked them about the cupcake toppers because she was a previous employee of rouses bakery years ago , so she knew how the cupcakes were supposed to look. The day I walked into Rouses #35 Gentilly/Franklin Avenue store was not planned. I'm usually at the Veterans store in Metairie,but, I was in Gentilly and I decided I would go there. I read the reviews, and was a little worried about what I was to expect. I looked around and the store was immaculate. I had my "to get" list, and I started up the aisles for my items to purchase. The shelves were stocked, the staff was extremely helpful and the perishables were current, also the non-perishables. I couldn't find one item so, I stopped to ask a young man, (who happened to have beautiful wavy hair and a "boo ti ful" "nat ur rul" olive complexion), I asked, where was the uh, Asian sauces?. He was stocking the shelves. He said sure, I'll show you ma'am. Guess what ya'll, that was the Store Manager, Bert A! Now that is nat'ully naw'lins. I found every thing on my list, and found more than I planned on buying. uh,did you really need help, or was it because you spotted that cuuutie! shet yo mouth! as Vic and Nataly would say. Anyway ah didn't have my windshield wiper eyelashes on, so ah musta been serious, huh? Just before checking out, I looked at every thing that were issues with other consumers. The seafood department was looking good, the meat and poultry was freshly stocked, and the liquor was stocked. That's where I met Jeffery W, a tall buff young man, also a manager. It wasn't his department but he made sure we found what I was looking for. Jeffery found my request for BuzzBox. I'm telling ya'll Rouses have it all. He is a company oriented young man. I passed the Deli, the ladies were getting that grub ready for us gentillyians, who were due to emerge on the store later on. All of the staff were pleasant, big smiles, genuine morning responses. The prices were competitive. No one can leave that store dissatisfied as it is now. The parking lot was safe. No one begging or threatening. I was as happy as a flea in a dog pound, huh? When I got to the cashier, Kerryon S, greeted me with a genuine smile, which made me feel good about spending my 100K there, uhhhhh, what choo sayyy! uhh mah bad, ah mean mah 100$. Dat's bettah. I said to Kerryon, I had a great experience and you were the topping on the cake. She was thorough, fast, bagged correctly, and I said I will tell the manager or your supervisor. Kerryon is as cute as a new sundress. She said my supervisor is great, you'll love her. I met Cynthia S, Kerryon's supervisor, whose title is P/U manager. Cynthia S, was not only a beautiful young lady, but a professional, kind, consumer oriented, company oriented and helpful, management staffer, who was genuinely interested in all that I wanted to vent about. She is Nat'Ully Naw'Lins ya'll. Cynthia S, introduced me to the Assistant Store Manager Peter L. I also ran into Peter L, during my aisle shopping. Great smile, in passing. You can't miss him, he looks like one of those serious detectives in a great crime mystery. It appeared he was making his rounds of the store, when Cynthia S, called him to meet me. Everyone seems to be a reflection of Bert A., Store Manager, his genuine professionalism, his feel for the consumer, his interaction with the consumer, and his willingness to help, no matter how high on the ladder he is. I felt he is the type of store manager we consumers can talk to, about anything.That's what makes our community markets great.He has to have "Consumer feedback". Since Katrina, Rouses has made a 180 in terms of food selection, customer service, wine collection & overall appearance. I am ever so pleased with my neighborhood Rouses. While maybe not as large as some others, this Rouses is plentiful in its selection, prices are a little elevated, but still reasonable. You have many opportunities to select hard to find/exotic items; almost to the point of gourmet. It's to the point that it's almost that some departments are kinda "boutique-like" with the cute quirky items you find. I'm also a fan of the "local's" department, where you can find Saints, LSU & sometimes Tulane paraphernalia, yessssssss!!!!! Lots of local charm which gives you a "down-home" feeling. read more

We are traveling in our RV and needed a restock on groceries. This market has just about everything. The produce and meats were of good quality. The store was clean and the prices were affordable, about the same as what I paid back home. They do offer some a great selection of premade meals. We did purchase a rotisserie chicken and it was moist and delicious. They have a full deli and bakery. They have a large selection of wines and in the front of the store they do carry liquor it just has to be purchased separately because you can't carry it around the store. This area is a food desert in general. This is the only grocery store for quite a large area. Yes, there are many small convenience stores around, but the prices are high. The residential area surrounding this grocery store is a small pocket of nicer homes, and large stretches of lower income areas. This area was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina, but 12 years later, this is the only grocer in the near area. Rouses is famous for being Louisiana owned and based. This location is reasonably priced. Though I don't come here often as I moved out of the area, this was my store when I did live nearby. Clean, wide aisles, inventory well stocked, clean restrooms are the pride of this location. There is on occasion a bird that is trapped inside and flies through the rafters. The beer and wine section is quite impressive. The decorated cakes look wonderful. The deli area looks ok, though I have not purchased anything from it. They do have a wonderful section of NOLA themed items (t-shirts, earrings and the like). read more

Should have went to the Rouses near my house. I decided to stop by this location while hubby played soccer to save us some time. I like how this rouses is in the cut. However, this place just screams dead and dirty. I received many stares from men and women. Makes you feel a tad bit uncomfortable, but whatever you would think I would be used to it. I knew I wanted to stock up on Salmon. I went to the seafood department and saw how dirty the pre cut selection was, so I decided to let them cut a fresher selection for me. I went for the Soho wild caught salmon, but to my right I saw a fly sitting on a piece of cod fish. I was disgusted and didn't want to be rude while the man was always cutting my selection. The employee name who helped me is Freeland. His customer service was okay... didn't seem excited to be at work, but who would be if they worked at this particular Rouses. But let me tell y'all... his shirt, hat, and apron was soooooo damn dirty. Looks like he hasn't washed it since he starting work there. Then he had the nerves to cough while asking me what I needed. He didn't even wash his hands. He put gloves on like nothing even happened. Instantly I knew that I would be scrubbing my salmon to it's bare atoms and placing it in a bowl with bleach (lol not literally) as soon as I got home. I will NEVER buy fresh produce & fish at this location. EVER!!! Actually, I'll probably never be back. Moral of the story: only come here if you are desperate or in the need of processed food. So, I was throwing a housewarming, and I ordered 200 pieces of chicken and 200 pieces of sandwiches. We've gotten the small trays that they keep out all the time, and we love them. Plus, compared to other places, the price was right. I ordered a week in advance, and I went in person and paid for it all that day. It was my first time catering a party, and I had heard that I should call in advance to confirm my order. I called at the 24-hour mark the day before I was supposed to pick up. I asked for the "catering department", and the operator told me that their intercoms weren't working, but they would call me as soon as they could. I received a call shortly after and spoke with someone who then called to the same person that took my order the previous week. They said my order would be ready, and all was good. So... the next day, my mom goes to pick up the order for me, and... it's not ready. Not only is it not ready, but they had the nerve to say that I only called the sandwich department, not the chicken department. No, I asked for the "catering department" and asked about "my order". Why would I only ask about the sandwiches? Not to mention that I placed this order A WEEK AGO! Seriously? If that wasn't bad enough, they ran out of most of what I asked for on the sandwiches. All they had left was white bread and turkey. I'm floored. Is this not a grocery store? The other explanation I got was that there were 12 other orders placed for that same time. You know, like that's my problem or something. But I wonder... did those other orders get their food? If so, then it makes me wonder if time of order means anything. Truly, my order should have been ready in the order that it was placed, highly likely first. Poor management in that department and horrible time management on the part of the employees for "losing track of time". Wow. The manager David, however, did make it right for me, and I did get all of what I ordered in time for the party. This store is convenient for me so I shop here often. The atmosphere is safe, mostly clean, plenty of parking, public restrooms and good selection of goods. The deli has a lot of fresh, yummy choices...my favorite is the fried chicken and sushi/California rolls. The bakery has a lot of nice selections as well, and my favorite is fresh bread. I've noticed that they do not sell lottery tickets and all the hard alcohol is behind customer service desk. They have a large selection of wines and beers. The produce section has what I need and generally all is very fresh. I prefer to buy my groceries here over Walmart which is just as convenient for me as far as distance goes. The seafood department is always happening here and it is my go to for fresh crawfish. I gave it 3 stars because there are things that I want that they don't carry, the store could be cleaner, too often things are freezer burnt. I've been to this Rouse's location once with a friend of mine and I found it a bit smaller and less well stocked than the usual branch of this grocery but it still met my needs. They seemed to have things set up in a bit of a unique way here with a different layout than most other Rouse's I've visited. I am one of those crazy people who loves checking out different grocery stores. I have found that this one is much smaller and less swanky compared to the one on tchoup and so the variety suffers. They have the standard things you expect to find in a grocery store, it's always clean, and they have a good hot bar and bakery section. We get cakes here for peoples birthdays at work and they're always yummy. But the produce section is tiny, and I have bought meat here that had passed it's expiration date and a friend bought pita that was already molding, so be careful and check the dates thoroughly before checking out. The thing that keeps me coming back though is the mango siracha coleslaw that they sell that I can't find in any other stores. Seriously, try that slaw! read more

Ok. This Rouse's is a very convenient location for me, but I refuse to go here alone. Why, do you ask? Because it scares the hell out of me. My SO almost got hit when he biked here, then the truck driver proceeded to curse him out like he was at fault. I've also been approached in the parking lot before. Scary. I can honestly say when my SO and I go here there isn't much of a line, but what is that worth if they don't have any of the products you regularly purchase? The prepared foods, canned, pre-packaged stuff is all fine. I even go for the $5 for 5 meat items. The bakery has delicious items at much fairer prices than other grocery stores... But they don't carry my soap! What the hell, people? It's not exotic fru fru stuff; its soap! Of all places, Robert's carries my soap. (I have sensitive skin, so this is clearly important to me.) So, it's fine to go here. But as a short female, I would recommend only going with an escort for safety and peace of mind. read more

I go back and forth with this Rouses. Sometimes it is perfect and other times it is a nightmare. I think inconsistent describes it well. The store has made major strides in recent months to bring in product that reflects the diversity of its clientele (in terms of affordability) which is not easy task. Much better deli selection and the dairy section is improving but still lacking. The checkout doesn't help when people are lazy and ring up 4 of the same thing but there are really three of the same thing and one of the other - and they ring up 4x the thing you buy one of (this affects stock and what they carry) The store does have an issue with meat. That section and produce need to be handled better to ensure expired product and rotting things are taken off the shelves. read more

Rouses is the KING of New Orleans grocery stores, in my humble opinion. They've always got the best selection, the store brand is extremely good [try the BACON!], and the staff is friendly. Well, it looks like I've been spoiled by the Mid City Rouses because this one isn't such a gem. Still, its better than your average Winn-Dixie. While shopping, we saw a flock of birds flying through the store. The meat department stocked only very large and odd cuts of beef. The assortment was sorely lacking. I think this store is smaller than most, but for some reason, they spread everything out as far as possible. Extra wide aisles aren't always a good thing! Like usual though, the cashiers, stockers, and managers were nice as can be. Too bad this is the closest Rouses to me! read more

Unfortunately, this is now the grocery store I live closest too. This Rouse's is my least favorite in the city. It's not as clean, the selection is not as diverse, and the clientele seem to be a bit sketchy. Checking out usually takes longer than in other locations, and the alcohol selection is very lacking. I also got salad bar once, and the mixed greens had been in there way too long; they were starting to rot. Gross. I suppose I'll get used to it tho. read more

Tried to buy my grandmother fudge from here after her surgery but all the brownies had fuzz and mold growing all over it so yeah that was a no go. Rouses on Franklin Ave. SUCKS!!!!! They close at 9 but shut down their steamer for steamed lobster at 5:30. I called at 4:30 to ask if they had any live lobster and they said yes. Now the only positive is very friendly staff, but that does not overshadow this store's "deplorable" handicap shopping cards. The selections are always nice to see, especially when they're on sale! This is the only place I can find $.99 green bell peppers. Other groceries charge an arm and leg just for one. Of course they're some cons to this location, just a few. While many of the selections are cheaper, others not so much. The blue plate mayonnaise is higher than Winn Dixie. I like this Rouses location it's not as nice as the one on Carrollton Ave but still good. The store is only a few blocks from my house so I shop here at least 3 times a week. I prefer to shop here over the "big box" stores because there's less people, better parking and the lines are shorter. The bakery is the best I like to get Birthday cakes, cupcakes and cookies from here. I also buy from there "hot food" section when I don't feel like cooking, the rotisserie chicken is always good and so is the fresh baked pizza. The wine section big with lots of brands you can't find in other stores and they even have a bottle cooler to keep your wine cool while you shop. Another good this is the sushi (not for me) but I have friends who buy the sushi from here you can watch the people make it right in front of you. Today 10/21/17 I decided to do some early afternoon grocery shopping, and the customer service was terrible at the register, but throughout the store the stockers were friendly and helpful. I wasn't greeted at the register , the cashier let another customer skip the line from the front as I was putting my items on the belt, and worst of all the lady bagging who may have been a manager mixed hard items with soft items. I always put my groceries in hard and soft order so things don't get smushed. Why would anyone put a loaf of bread in the bag with cooking oil for goodness sake? In last night's visit I experienced several failures in customer service: the cashier didn't care that she was delaying customers or generally unpleasant. She was more concerned with combing her hair with her long fingernails (please stop touching you hair, face and scalp - you're also touching my food!). To add insult to injury, this unbelievably rude young lady was followed by an exchange with the manager on duty (Tuesday, May 16 around 7pm) who start the conversation with an eye roll.
