My lawnmower wouldn't start so I brought it in to Rt 22, because no other repair shop in the area could even look at it for another week! They fixed it in 3 days. I got my mower home, filled it up with gas and it wouldn't start. So I brought it back the next day and they fixed it. Told me the problem was bad gas (my fault) and they charged me exactly $0 for the second service of my mower! Really good communication along the way. John was very friendly and helpful. read more

The WORST experience ever!! I dropped off a chainsaw and the owner said it would be 3-5 business days and I would get a call explaining what would be required to repair it and what it would cost. A month later I still hadn't heard anything and I couldn't get them to return any phone calls. Finally, I went back there to inquire about my chainsaw. He told me it 'was on the bench' being evaluated. I look over and I see the saw on the shelf where he put it when I brought it in!! Total LIE!! He promised that they would get to it that day. Need happened. Another week goes by with NO communication and I go back to get my unrepaired saw and he wants to charge me the $40 for the diagnostic that he NEVER DID. I was told they would be able to complete the work in 2-3 days. Months later it was still not completed and my calls would not be returned. When I dropped my equipment off it would at least start. When I picked it up it wouldn't start and I had to get the police involved to get it back and pay there $40 diagnostic fee. The worst experience I have ever had. They couldn't pay me to go back. I had a very poor experience with Rt 22 Small Engine Repair. My riding mower was running rough so I took it in, hoping to support a local business and find someone interested in my regular repair work. Weeks would go by with no communication, although when I stopped in they always had some vague promise that "it will get attention next week". 7 months total and they broke the starter too. Finally I got it back and it runs a little better, but still not right. Yelp doesn't allow 0 stars, but I would give them 0 stars for customer service, 0 stars for communication, and 0 stars for technical expertise. I would not go back here ever again, took something in to get fixed and three weeks passed with no completion of the job. Then they tried to scam me and make me pay an extra 4% by making me pay using a credit card when I went to pay with a debit. They were not very friendly overall either. Gasoline was running out of my lawn tractor as soon as I filled it. Route 22 Small Engine Repair in Fox River Grove, picked it up. Nice. But, took 3 weeks to get estimate then another 3 months to get the work completed. We cut our 1.7 acres of grass with a small motorized push mower for the summer. I figured John and his team were really busy. Okay. Nearly four months and $450 later... gas leak allegedly repaired. Having gotten the lawn tractor back in early fall, I cut the grass only once then put the tractor away for the year with a full tank and 10 drops of fuel stabilizer. New year... time to cut the grass. Oh gosh... the gas tank is empty! I filled it. Started right up... 20 minutes later, tank is empty. What The H_ _ _! Called their phone number... 11:00AM no answer. Goes to voice mail... "box full." Not looking good. Shall see how this plays out. I recommend avoiding this business until and unless they get their act together. UPDATE: Fast forward two weeks. They MADE GOOD ON THEIR WORK! Dave from Route 22 Small Engine Repair, picked up the lawn tractor. They installed a new tank (hours of work. Located under the frame and rear fenders). No experience with their service, but if the owner's willingness to dig through a couple of boxes of springs to replace the slightly weak engine idle return spring on my off road bike, and then not want any money for it, speaks well. Helpful attitude and the kind of guy I want to do business with. read more

Just flat out awful service! The owner was NEVER there when he said he was going to be and when we finally did see him, he couldn't give us straight answer about what was wrong with our machine. After two weeks of having our machine, nothing was done to it. We picked it up and took it down the road to Mowerworks. Now that's a place we would recommend. read more

This business has recently changed owners, and let me say, what a shame. I recently dropped off my lawn mower, and the owner tells me that in the next 2-3 days he would call me, let me know what was wrong, and we would decide from there what to do. One week has gone by, so I stopped in to see why I have not received a call. He told me he still had not even looked at the mower; he said a few more days...one more week went by, and still nothing. After two weeks, I finally went to pick up my mower, where they told me they fixed nothing. I was being charged $65 for a service charge, and no work was done. They did put new tires on the mower though, OH GREAT! new tires on a broken machine. THEY FIXED NOTHING and wanted to charge me. I took the mower, and decided to go to sears, who fixed it in two days, with half that cost. I would never go back, or suggest this place to ANYONE. A normal person does not have three weeks to spare to have their lawn not mowed. Just awful!!!!!!!! read more
