    Plain Jane burger with cheese.

Yesterday, my mom and I were coming back from a doctors appointment in Chatham, and we were ready to have lunch. She suggested Route 42, because not only is it a Windsor Staple, it's one of her favourite places to eat, so of course I said yes, and I haven't been here since I moved back to Windsor back in October, so we went in around noon, and we were greeted and seated within minutes. My mom knew what she wanted but I didn't, so I needed a few minutes to look at the menu. They have a wide selection of options for diner style food. I went with the Greek Chicken wrap with no olives and sweet potato fries instead of regular fries. Our waitress was friendly, and I was so hungry, but it took about 15 minutes and our food was hot, and out at our table. The music was playing tunes from the 1950's, the decor was nostalgic of that era as well, giving it an old classic diner feel, and our food was delicious. My mom commented on how she thinks they have one of the best burgers in town, and my wrap was delicious, the chicken wasn't dry at all and the veggies crunchy and my sweet potato fries were hot! The dipping sauce was really good, I wish I could've had more. So excited to be back in Windsor and be able to eat out at classic Windsor staples, like this one. This is one of those restaurants you come back to, to become a regular at. Next time I'll take my boyfriend and we can come for breakfast.

Has nice atmosphere and great service, everyone is super nice and food is on time :) Last time I got their classic burger and it was very nice and the bun had some garlic spread on it, I also got a classic strawberry milkshake and it was good but nothing special, just tasted like regular ice cream. Today I got the Buffalo Chicken with Mac n Cheese but I got extra cheese on it because originally it's very saucy and the extra cheese on top makes it a bit more sticky which is nice and I got the Chicken on the side because it was very hot and I didn't feel it would go with it. We also got the sweet potato fries which were amazing! 10/10 and the mini cinnamon donuts they were so airy and rich in flavour

This place has awesome shakes and desserts. A fried banana split that is big enough to be a meal. The food was standard but not bad at all. Service was also

Amazing food and friendly service - this is our very first time and the ambience was very welcoming. 4 different dishes and a job well done by the kitchen crew. Don't ever miss out on their milkshakes . Highly recommend this place- you will not be disappointed,

Under new management! Popular 1950s style diner. Decor is full of classic Elvis and Marilyn memorabilia, jukeboxes, and classic cars. Extensive menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Popular place to go for breakfast, especially on a Sunday, but wait times can get a little crazy. Try and make it before 11am, otherwise the church crowd can make it a little too crazy! Big Breakfast is a great deal! They also have made-to-order mini donuts, tossed in cinnamon sugar. They melt in your mouth, and are a great buy. Pancakes, French toast, milkshakes, floats, BLTs, you name it, they make it. Wait staff are usually pretty attentive, but sometimes coffee, and drink refills take longer when it gets really busy. Today, this was not the case though. Having drink trays for the staff might make things easier for them, rather than making multiple trips to the same big tables. Not a lot of room to wait when it gets busy.

This place is absolute heaven! Retro style 50's diner with great food and amazing atmosphere. Place is surprisingly spacious and the booths are these long giant pillowy cushions that you just sink right into. The menu selection is ginormous so you're guaranteed to find at least one thing you'll like. Prices are reasonable. We got two shakes, two burgers a cheesy garlic bread appetizer and a dozen donuts for under $50. So you can spend less than $20 here for a meal and be quite content. I wasn't able to finish my food because the portion sizes are massive. We did have an issue with an inattentive waitress. She would leave before we finish speaking and didn't check up on us once, but she would cater to the large family groups like she was a house elf. So hence the 4 stars and not 5 (only reason). I'm definitely coming back and becoming a regular here,

    S'mores milkshake - delicious!

Great milkshake! I had the S'mores one and it was delicious. Portion is generous for the price as well, which is a bonus.

Had a great experience. The place was clean. they were rocking the 50's music, the food was fast and tasted good, the eggs were perfect, the toast was done the way I like it, the home-fries weren't burnt or oily, I am happy overall.

The food here is good bit they do tend to mess up consistently. I have been here three times now and every time a mistake has been made. Right now I got takeout and there are tomatoes on a sandwich that shouldn't be. I upgraded to a Ceasar salad that they put the dressing on for takeout! Salad was ruined and completely a waste.

The staff was very friendly and warm when greeting guests. Their personable nature made the visit that much more worth the walk in the heat. Since the place was pretty busy we took bar stools to avoid waiting for a table and it was a good view of the smaller kitchen area. I was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency we saw from the busy crowd and the food not taking 10 years. The food was tasty. I truly enjoyed my Korean spicy fries. Spicy in name not truly spicy to cause a burn if that makes sense. I was craving a traditional breakfast plate but the staff and my friends who are local insisted that I needed to try the Korean fries so I did both. Was it greedy of me? Absolutely. Did I care? No. The locally sourced sausage was also very tasty. I must try to find it to cook at home. My friends ordered their regular go-to meals so it was great according to them. The burger and the duck hash. I think I'll go back and try the duck hash next time for sure. And another thing, there's a particular parking garage they validate a couple hours for. So parking is not an issue in this downtown office building.

We get there around 9:30 - 10:00am, the place wasn't busy at all, and we seated ourselves. Greeted by the waitress taking our drink orders and bringing us menus. My mom and I ordered the classic eggs and bacon classic breakfast with toast & home fries and my dad ordered the peameal bacon breakfast with toast & home fries as well. We didn't wait long at all as our food came right out about after 10 to 15 minutes. It was hot and delicious and the bacon was cooked just right; the home fries were tasty, the toast was buttered and the coffee was hot. I prefer my eggs sunny side up, and they were cooked perfectly so I can dip my toast into the yolk. What a wonderful place, I can't wait to come back and try a few other items they had on the menu with some friends. Wonderful staff working there, making the experience that much better. Just a side note, there is no parking lot, just street parking, which is fine, we got a spot right outside around when we went. Overall a great diner experience, restaurant like these that make me keep wanting to come back to get that local feel.
