I came in from California for a funeral and realized I hadn't been to Windsor in over a decade. Looked this place up, got family on board and it was just great! Perfect weather had us outside and the service was good. I toured some of the best beers of my life - Blue, Molson Canadian, and OV. The food was great - best steak sandwiches I had in a while + poutine! I didn't know what poutine really was, but cheese curds and gravy over fries was great and I'm somewhat lactose allergic - no real reaction. Too bad I do t live closer. read more

A good place to stop for a drink, or dine on typical bar and grill offerings. Be aware that current road construction on Sandwich St can make parking challenging. They do provide both indoor and outdoor seatings. They have a good selection of appetizers and burgers. I highly suggest trying out their onion rings, it was fantastic. However, it seems that they only grill their burgers to well done. The 3 of us all ordered our burgers as medium, and all 3 came out charred and thoroughly cooked. Also, the wait duration for the orders seems to be long as well. Only observed 1 person working the entire kitchen area. read more

After being stuck in home from surgery, hubby and I ventured up North to Canada. I've never been and he had only ever to the Niagara Falls. We stopped here for lunch after looking at a couple different places. We LOVED it! We sat inside near the bar, the kitchen is by the bar in the open so you can watch them cook. The server was great. He was the only server and they had a nice lunch crew so the wait was I would assume a little longer than normal, but not slow enough to be upset by. He did a great job keeping up. The food was delicious! Hubby ordered the Pizza Burger and I ordered The Benny. We both did an upgrade to our fries because we wanted to try the tater tot poutine and the onion rings. We split the sides and were blown away with the flavor. The burgers were divine. Anytime we are in the area this will definitely be a lunch stop for us. read more

What a dive bar. The atmosphere here is dingy and dirty. It's nasty. The people hanging out at the bar are enough to scare off anyone visiting the city like us and wanting to try something. Food wise it was okay. Burger was huge but had no flavor or seasoning. I would not recommend. read more

We were looking for some good pub food and the barrel house did not disappoint! Cold beer and good burgers ans the life changing poutine tator tots! We came here on a Sunday mid Covid, the checked out vac cards before we could sit to eat. The portions are huge! The barrel house burger is good the smoked bacon really makes the burger, my preference would of probably to add some jalapeños to put it over the top. The tator tot poutine is life changing and a must try! Seriously though my life will not be the same after experienceing the tator tot poutine! The crazy and cheese are on point! TLDR: a must try for pub food, great bartenders and even better food! read more

We stopped here on the way to the Windsor Airport. The outdoor seating was comfortable, the food was amazing, and our server was friendly. My only regret is that we rushed our meal, since we had plenty of time to sit in the airport. We will definitely come back the next time we're in Windsor. read more

Was driving in the area with co-workers, had to stop in for lunch after we noticed the cool building. Great service and hipster style environment. We ordered the beef dip meal, an order of mussels, and 2 chicken salads for the less adventurous of our group. Windsor is really improving. Honestly, we made a wrong turn leaving the tunnel and ended up driving along the river. We were hungry and this place was there, so we figured we'd give it a try. I'm glad we did! I don't like to give five stars (can anything ever actually be perfect?), but the Barrel House deserves it. When you walk into the place it really looks like any other dive bar. Situated in Windsor, Ontario's Old Sandwich Town neighborhood, it's very quaint and unassuming. However, the food is anything but what you'd get at a typical dive. The crispy chicken sandwich was fantastic, and there were plenty of options on the menu that would make me come back. They drizzle a stout reduction on the onion rings that is beyond description. Anyway, we sat at the bar and the service was great. The bartender and the cook were both very friendly, and happy to talk about the beers on tap or the food. We asked a bunch of questions like obnoxious tourists, but they didn't seem to mind. I know it's Canada, but everyone was very friendly even by what I have come to expect in Windsor. Being in Detroit, it can be difficult to lure me across the bridge or tunnel and through customs, but I'll happily cross over to go back to this place. It's a real hidden gem! read more

Our server, Jaden, simply could not have been better: gracious, unobstrusive, full of recommendations when asked, and willing to take back beer we didn't like. Cool exposed brick interior with open kitchen. Outside you can read the tale of a historic warrior on a giant mural. Patio is nice big space. Good food. Really enjoyed the chicken and steak sandwiches. On Monday they do a decent homemade burger and fries/tasty green beans/nice coleslaw special for $5. Lots of tasty beers. The burger is huge, stacked with 3 different meats on a burger patty smothered in melted cheese, onion rings and standard burger toppings (lettuce and tomato). Mmm. Coleslaw was good, but a little too much mayonnaise for my liking (soupy). Beer selection was also very good. Pints go for $6.75. Double check your bill. We went here based on a good reference for a friend who has been here a number of times. We had the beef dip and a burger. I have not had beef dip in a long time and it was great. My wife burger and it too was very good. It wasn't busy but the service was pleasant, I think it was one the owners. He was very helpful with the menu items and the craft beer selections. Attended a wedding where they catered it. They did not have proper staffing to attend to the tables (water glasses not filled, tea and coffee not offered at the end of the meal). The food was very good BUT the food temperature was lukewarm. Also, the timing of the courses was very delayed. They seemed not prepared to hold an event of this size. We felt sorry for the bride and groom who had put a lot of time planning for their special day. read more
